Hi guys,

Evenly matched teams this week made for some competitive games. This coming weekend we’re playing on Sunday @ 6:00 on the indoor rink. Let me know who is going to be there.

After reading John's post, I can see this week's update may go as smooth as they usually do.

Stats this week

2 comments:
Hey guys, The stats this week (once Nick posts them) were as close as I could get them. For whatever reason, despite the White team keeping track of the stats, their stats seemed to be off. Based on what I have recorded, remembered, and discussed with certain people, these should be pretty reflective of what happened. Some of the order of goals might have been off for the White team, but hopefully everyone was given the correct amount of points. The Black team's stats were in much better shape.

There was also a lot of confusion for Game 5. I have my reservations counting it since a lot of people were not taking it seriously, and I could have sworn the Black team won that one as well. However, since I have 5 goals recorded for the White team, and I'm feeling charitable, I have decided to count it and give them the win (having four wins of our own makes that a little easier). If anybody is too concerned about it, the only other option is to not count game 5.

This coming week we need to do a better job at recording things accurately.

Recap

9 comments:
White Team v.s Grey Black team(Reggie get with the program). Macaulay Culkin v.s Geraldo Rivera. BoldBrad's mouth guard against, well, Mike's mouth guard. Adam Dunn dueling against his own teammate, the Ostrich. It was the week of battles. I guess Friday night is alright for fighting too.

*Game one was all about the Black team. It was a 5-0 shellacking! Defense in game one by the black team was shutting down everything the white team could throw at it. Not to mention the great goal tending by Dave. "He was sensational!" one scout said of Riley. "It's too bad he doesn't play more often out in Utah, their chances in tournaments would skyrocket!"

*By Game two, the scout was singing a different tune: "Now that was a competitive game" exclaimed the scout. "But a win is a win, nonetheless." The white had a 4-3 lead and looked as if they were rolling to victory. A defeat that would have evened the days score at 1-1. It didn't happen, though. Nick, Reggie and Chris had some huge stops. Hey, even Johnny came back!

*Hey! Are you hustling? Yeah, you know who you are. Game three was a game of hustle. The most notable hustle was by the strikeout king himself. Nick not only pushed himself but he willed himself to get the Black team back in the game. (You hear that? Yeah, I hear it too) Nick out hustled Brendon and Mike D. Then he made a sensational pass to John to get the black team rolling. At the snap of the fingers, a 3-1 cushion for the white team turned into a 5-3 loss. "Burton changed that game. Without him Brett, Johnny and the rest of the team would have been looking at a bitter loss."

*Ok, i will stop writting in the third person. Did game three take the wind out the white team by the start of game four? "I think so." said one casual observer. "They looked flat. I was shocked that they [Craig] mustard out two goals in this game."

*Game Five (surprisingly we squeezed in a full fifth game. Yes we got the entire thing in!) 5-4 in favor of the white team. Yes, they managed a win. But the true story of the day for the white team was Mike D's strange ability to hit the post. Man Mike, I hit the post once and was aggravated. Is there a word to describe how you feel?

Do you feel a draft, Bill?

12 comments:
"No, its not a draft, it's the wind from Nick swinging and missing again! Didn't you know that the wind moves horizontally, while a draft moves vertically? Clearly that was a horizontal wind gust from Nick swinging and missing! (Or as I like to call it: "Pulling a Brendon") Yes, it was your typical Friday night at hockey town. Lets get right to the notes:

  • Any one see that moustache Griff had?
Griff=George? Nahh, its not as thick and full
  • TINK, TINK, TINK!!!!
  • Hey, Mike D how many posts did you hit?

  • “Is that kid rollerblading?”-asked a casual observer “Believe it or not, he is”-was the reply “Why???? That’s got to be some kind of unfair advantage!”
  • "Did you just pass it to Nick??!!!???" asked Brett. "What are you thinking!" Last week Brett decided that Brendon's "Game Winaaaaaaaahhhaaaa!!!" chant after a game was not uplifting. I have to say Brett, I was very uplifted as your teamate after those comments to John.(Not J-o-n, but J-o-h-n. The former is M.I.A) We were 4-1, so what's the difference, right?
  • Mike Ward came in with most wins of any player on the season, after a 4-loss day he may lose that spot. Redemption next week, Mike?"
  • I still need tape, if anyone cares.
  • And Finally, Johnny will not get to the stats until Monday. It shows his devotion to the site.

      Hockey this weekend?

BREAKING NEWS(12/21/08): Multiple Sources have confirmed that hockey will not be happening this week. And Mark Teixeira will sign with the Red Sox. More news as it comes in.

      Hi guys,

It looks like we’re going to cancel hockey for this weekend. The weather looks lousy on Sunday, and I tried to switch it to tomorrow and they had nothing available.

We will just plan for next weekend. I’ll send an email out on Monday about the day and time.

If the weather does not end up as bad is it seems for this week, we might try to play last minute on Sunday, but if you don’t hear from me then assume we’re not playing.

      Incomplete Games; Counted How?

      47 comments:
There is now a poll up for your opinion. Majority rules.

So far, as Nick described it is exactly how it is: if we have an unfinished game, it still have to count as a game if we want to count the stats from it. Otherwise, other stats like GPG, GAA, etc would all be inaccurate. And since nobody actually "won" the game, it shows up as a loss. This is how we've handled it in the past. We have a couple of options if we want to change it:

      1. Any unfinished games don't count stat-wise.

      2. Everyone gets a win for unfinished games.

      3. Without being too technical, I can create another field behind the scenes which will indicate if it's not a complete game. This would prevent the games counting when I calculate the wins / win %, yet still allow gpg, ppg, and gaa to still be accurate. The only problem with this is that a person's "Games Played" totals will be different based on the stat you are looking at.

Either way, let me know and I can change according to what everyone wants.

Sorry about the late update guys, took awhile to get the power back. Stats have been updated.

      Power Outage

      9 comments:
This was a night that saw the Black team unable to do anything. Forced to start without top pick Brett, the Black team had the dauting task of facing Dave in his first start of the year in net. At the outset it looked as though the White team would have a decided edge in net, but goaltending really didn't make a difference. The black team barely generated any offense in game one, losing 5-0, with Dave barely breaking a sweat. At the other end, Jack, who was also making his season debut, shook off early rust and played very well, yet still suffered the defeat.

Brett made it for Game 2, yet the Black team still fell behind early. They started generating some scoring chances though, as Mike D struck first, followed by 2 consecutive goals by John. Unfortunately that's as far as they got as the White team won the game 5-3.

Game 3 was more of the same, with the same results - a 5-3 victory by the White team. The top line of Jared, Cliff, and Brendon paced the offense all night, while Joe, Mike W, Chris, and Dale did a good job pinching in and breaking up the chances the Black team had.

Game 4 finally saw the Black team avoided defeat - the accomplishment of the night! Perhaps something to build on for next week?

Game notes: Cliff was the standout offensively equaling the number of goals the Black team scored (8).

Very strong play by Dave for his debut. The Black team was outplayed overall, but if the White team had weaker goaltending the Black team might have snuck out a game.

The Black team's biggest struggles were positioning and mobility from their D. Too often guys weren't in position for rebounds, forwards were caught too deep and lost too many one-on-one battles. Defensively they couldn't match the speed of the White team which led to many odd-man rushes. Even when they were back in position the D did not do a good job tying up their man.

Despite a 4 goal night from Mike D, and some strong puck carrying from Brett, the Black team never really was consistent on offense. Expect a much better effort next week.

      Lambs to the Slaughter

      UPDATE: The Stats are updated-Nick

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...but for the black team, it was mostly the worst of times. What else could you say about the slaughter that was last Sunday Night? Teams were chosen by Brett and Jared, and each side had no complaints...until the end of the first game, which the white team won in a shutout. The black team's captain, Jared, was asked if he wanted a trade, but declined on the basis that he wanted some revenge. And they got some in the second game, scoring two goals...which would also be the last time they scored in any of the four games played that night. After a 5-2 loss, TPJ was asked again if he wanted a trade, but declined yet again. Perhaps they felt as though they were making some progress with their increase in scoring during the second game. Either way, the black team had a chip on their shoulder and wanted to prove they could put up a fight. They couldn't. Not one punch. Not even a sissy slap on the face. With the non-warmed-up-before-the-game John in net, the white team rolled to two more shutouts. OUCH. A bystander overheard Steve the Goalie saying to his team: "Where's the defense? I'm surrounded by white jerseys! No one's on him! Cover the point!" Steve did his best to stop the onslaught, but even on his best night, he could do nothing, as there was no denying the white team for the sheer number of chances they had.

Usually, it isn't all one-sided...but this time it was. It was humiliating, embarassing, and the black team may not live it down until next week. Will they switch it up, or come back for more? Will TPJ use his managerial skills to trade for a first-round pick, or perhaps two second-round picks to be named later? Or will he realize that there is nowhere to go from here but up, and fight his way out of yet another debacle? Will Dale pass the puck when he has a two-on-none breakaway, or will he trip over his own stick? Will JB show up next week to help out his beloved dark team, and if so, will the four cheeseburgers he ate give him indigestion and yet another excuse to use when they lose? All these questions and more will be answered next week for more Sunday Night Game Action....stay tuned!

Here are some thoughts to ponder over: -Newcomer Derek scored as many goals as TPJ, and had more points (through four games) than did Newcomer Brian, Nick, Mike D, Reggie, and Dale COMBINED. -Everyone scored at least one goal each on the white team. -The white team had 19 of 20 possible points, while the black team had 3 of 4 possible points. -Lenny had more goals than anyone on the black team. -Possible new records: 1) 20 goals by one team in one week 2) 3 shutouts in one week 3) 0.5 GAA in one week 4) Highest combination of points between two players in one week: 24 (Brendon & Brett) 5) Highest combination of points between three players in one week: 32 (Brendon, Brett, Cliff) Editor's Note: Some of these are not records; official records will be posted later this week.

      Here are some stats to chew on: -John (Goalie) 2 goals allowed through 4 games; 0.5 GAA, 4 wins, 3 shutouts -Brendon 13 points (4 goals, 9 assists), 4 wins, 2 Gamewinners -Brett 11 points (6 goals, 5 assists), 4 wins, 1 Gamewinner -Cliff 8 points (6 goals, 2 assists), 4 wins, 1 Gamewinner -Mike W 4 points (1 goals, 3 assists), 4 wins -Lenny 2 points (2 goals, 0 assists), 4 wins -Derek 1 points (1 goal, 0 assists), 4 wins

-TPJ 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist), 4 losses -Chris 1 point (1 goal), 4 losses -Dale -1 point (should have had an assisted goal on that 2-on-none breakaway! Pass it next time!)

Something tells me that the weekly_power_rankings will, for the first time this year, be made up of 5 players from the same team...but in what order? And will anyone on the black team get an honorable mention? Stay tuned to find out!(Nick deserves an honorable mention)

      Hockey this Sunday 6-8 indoors‏

Hey guys, We’re playing 6-8 this week on the indoor rink (another group had already booked the other rink from 8:00 on).

Anyway, let me know who is able to make it this week.
