Here we go again...

40 comments:
They haven't given the amounts yet, but they are forecasting snow again this Sunday. If I were to see about us playing Saturday afternoon around 2 or 3, who would be able to play? As of right now I'm planning on us playing this Sunday at 8, but I wanted to see what everyone wants to do.

The Timely Recap

37 comments:
At times, he is my favorite player to watch. Though, last night, he certainly wasn't his usual tough self. He didn't hustle. He looked uninterested and bored. He seemed aloof, indifferent, and casual. He went about his way like there was not a drop of adrenaline running through his veins. And no one is sure why this happened. Does he need to be playing against Jared for motivation? Was that Johnny Depp style goatee hindering his play? Maybe, he just didn't have "it" last night. But what ever the case may be, I went 4-0, and that's all that matters...

*What's that famous quote?: "Offense sells tickets; Defense wins championships". In the case of the white team in Game 1, they had neither. One scout said of them "As much as they looked confused and unorganized, they never really got the good bounces either." It certainly was not a pretty 5-1 defeat. Entering last night, how many wins do you think Jack had in net? Five, ten, fifteen, more? NOPE! He entered last night with a season total of zero wins. So, what were the odds of Jack going 4-0 last night? "Well, when you get help from both teams you usually have good results." said one white team player.

*When one player was asked what he thought about "the trade" check out his response: "Brett for JB? What is Jared doing?" Yeah, I'm going to have to agree with that. The return of garlic breath was interesting, but he wasn't what he was the last we saw him."He looked slow, he made a few bad passes and his shot was not as accurate." said one scout. The trade, in the end, was a lateral move at best for the white team as they lost game two by the score of 5-1. As MVM, Matt Davis and Lee carried the defense for the dark team, it led to Nick playing up more often. "He cherry-picked most of the time and he still came up empty handed-kind of pathetic" said one player. Well, maybe if my "partners" ran with me I would have been more successful. Maybe.

*Do you smell that? Yeah, I still smell the garlic too. Though, it doesn't stink as much as the white team did in game three. Now, you are probably saying: "It cant be worse then two 5-1 losses in games one and two for the white team, could it?" WRONG! This game was over in what seemed like ten minutes. "It was pitiful. An absolute embarrassment" said one white team player. It was so bad that players of the white team decided to bail on their team. Guys, sometimes the teams workout, sometimes they don't. But, you should never just give up. Always play hard and hope for the best, but never bail.

*Coincidentally, game four was the most competitive game of the night. "It was a hard fought battle and both teams deserved to win, but the white just couldn't prevail again" said one scout. After some players had to leave there was another trade. New guy Steve was traded for Brendon. This led to letting Chris and Matt be a backbone to a solid defense. After the white battled back to tie the game at four, there was a quick goal by Brett to end the comeback. Game 4 was intense but in the end Jack found away to go 4-0.

Nick's Ramblings

So Lenny, How many break aways did Johnny give you in game 4? Now compare that to the number of goals you had. Brett you are not intimidating when you yell, work on that. Power Rankings and Big Board, I dont see any obvious picks this week, your choices will be interesting. Are you more nervous when Nick takes slap shot or Joe? Johnny, sadly, ended his 7 game losing streak. Mike De Maio we missed your "center playing ability". Brett, I will work on making faster decisions. "MVW"-Do you guys know what the "V" stands for? Has Lee ever played up that much? When will you be better Reggie? I felt like this was a solid recap. Though I didnt have a lot to ramble about this week.

Hockey Time Switched

Hockey will played tonight at 7 pm(inside)

As a result Hockey on Sunday is cancelled, we should be back to normal next week.

Saturday?

9 comments:
Judging the sketchy weather and other circumstances around hockey for Sunday, we were wondering if playing tomorrow would be better. Our options would be either at 2pm, 3pm or 7pm (eastern time, of course). If anyone would prefer to play tomorrow make a post and let us know. If we get enough interest we will switch it. As of right now Hockey is still on for Sunday night at 8, but if enough of the majority think we should change to Saturday then we will.

Please reply either way, and specify a time if you could only do one of them.

Thanks.

Recap

61 comments:
Weekly Power Rankings and Big Board are you paying attention? Are you taking note of the "clutchness" that is this Recap? You better be. This was my week off. This was the week where I was going to find the time to go and buy a new stick. I would tape my stick together but you guys know how that works...

*It is going to be very tough to biased this week, huh Lenny? Ouch! This was pathetic. It certainly was a feeble effort by the white team in game one. "To many players can lead to sloppy, unorganized play" said one white team player. It was our first 5-0 game since January 4th. One scout said, "It didn't help that Petzold was playing with a torn up hand and knee, but the offense got nothing going...it again testifies that in order to be successful the game needs to played by 5 players working together." Of course it doesn't help when you have over two lines on each time for the second week in a row. "One of these weeks we are going to have a 4 on 4 game as a result" said one cynical scout. Not helping the White team's anemic offense was the fact that Mike Ward played stellar defense."MVW deserves a spot on the WPR this week, definitely!" said one commenter, though the commenter may be Mike Ward himself. Jared and Brett were integral in the Dark Team's offense.

*Of course, no one is giving Lenny any credit. So, Lenny is all the new free time leading to more practice? "What is that 13 goals in the last four weeks?" said one scout. Lenny was again a dominating force for the dark team. "In my opinion he is the most improved and underrated player in Saugus...everyone thinks Brett and Jared carried the offense last night but Lenny was huge componet of their success" said one goalie. Before dark team's 5-3 victory we heard whispers of the White Team asking for trades. "While Game 2 was closer, it was still a dominating effort by the dark team." said one white team player. Jack played a solid game in net but couldn't over come the short comings of the white team's defense.

*Last Week I felt that John was way too frustrated. I even felt it had "boiled over". Man, was I way off base. What is John's favorite thing to yell yet at teammates? "COME ON GUYS!!" In yet another 5-3 loss in game three, the frustration of loosing his seventh consecutive game, you could see the aggravation in John's eyes. "It was good thing Brett left early [again], or game three may not have been pretty." said one scout. Steve also played another excellent game in net. Mike De Maio likewise played very solid defense along side of Mike Ward. Unnoticed because of his team "terribleness", Matt Davis is showing signs of improvement.

Nick's Ramblings

Any guesses on who uses the term "terribleness"? Who is the scout? The goalie? White team player? Dark team player? Brett, leaving early? I am very disappointed. Hey Chris Young, I need 30 homers from you this year, plus I want you to out-pitch Jake Peavy. Sound good? I want credit on the Weekly Power Rankings and Big Board for this clutch recap. Matt Davis can you snap my stick in half this week so you buy me a new one? Lee, you will be better next week. Jimmy im not as confident. Just kidding Jimmy. Tony the tiger Goalie get that injury healed already! For crying out loud guys, we had over two lines and we would still be out there without running around as hard as we can? This quote seems to apply "COME ON GUYS!"-Johnny Matt S,by the way,(sorry I cant spell your last name-though, I can pronounce it) I thought you played very well against us Sunday. And my weekly shout-out: Reggie get better.

What is this Quote from?

Two little mice fell in a bucket of cream. The first mouse quickly gave up and drowned. The second mouse, wouldn't quit. He struggled so hard that eventually he churned that cream into butter and crawled out. Gentlemen, as of this moment, I am that second mouse.

Any guesses? By the way, 715 words a new record!

Recap

129 comments:
The words "slippery when wet" can have so many different meanings. It's the signs we ignore as we walk into a public bathroom. It was the title of one the most successful albums of all time. The "slipperiness" factor led to a night of pain, uncertainty, and terrible play transition...Not that we transition the ball well when the conditions are just right.

*What is that old saying?: You don't know what you got till it's gone. In the dark team's 5-3 Victory, The "Newbies" managed to pass up the middle numerous times, usually to no avail. "Everyone knows Nick is going up the boards, but it's the best way to do things.", said one scout. Big Board and Power Rankings, are you paying attention? Despite Game 1 starting with two quick goals by Brendon and Jared the white team managed to keep the game close. Ricardo and Mike also played solid, physical games as Riley's wingers.

*I'm not going to beat around the bush, they were dropping like flies. Some of us bit off more than we could chew. For those of you not at hockey, don't get bent out of shape, everyone is fine. Not to add insult to injury but, the bottom line was, some us looked really funny out there. "I have never seen the floor so slippery", said one player. "It was [almost] impossible to get proper footing" The floor conditions certainly had effect on every game. Game 2 consisted of another 5-3 loss for Johnny's white team. And the frustration continued to mount for John.

*Game three was the game of the night. "It had everything you wanted in game. It had surprises, disappointments, great plays and questionable decisions", said one scout. Because of the white team's 0-4 week, the play of the 'iron man' Mike De Maio will be over looked by many. Mike did a solid job on defense, especially against the guy at the point, and did a great job at getting opened. He had Jimmy and Brian running around in circles all night. As usual Ward ran around in circles aimlessly, and yet was still very effective.

*The frustration boiled over. Johnny, I absolutely loved that you wanted to get the game going. I loved it! But would you have started playing before everyone was ready (to get a quick cheap goal) if your team had won the first 3 games and you had just scored a goal? Yeah, that's what I thought. The fourth and final game of the night was over quickly, resulting in a 5-1 win for the dark team. "Jack was solid, but Steve was again fantastic last night" said one player. "He took a hit in the boyz and had to deal with sketchy defense at times. He belongs high on the power rankings."

Nick's Ramblings:

So Lenny, which elbow is worse? Lewis take a page out of Ward's book and use your speed as an advantage. What is the proper way to haze a rookie? Matt Davis, how many sticks did you break? By the way, I still love the shin pads. How many idioms were in this post? Reggie we miss you. Griff was supposed to be on the dark team. How ugly would these games have been if he showed like he said? Jared and Brett, never complain about me going up the boards ever again...BB and PR I want to be high this week. Can you guys tell im running out of material for these recaps? Everyone loves the professor more anyway.

What is the quote from?:

Oh, the shame of the polar bear who fears the water. No wonder we are shunned by our fellow bear. Woe is us! [Pause] It's what he said. Kind of pathetic, really.

Hockey is on for this Sunday, 8-10 (Outside rink)

It looks like we have enough guys that are able to play. Unfortunately, Sundays for now will have to be outdoors (thanks to the stupid flag football league), but at least it shouldn't be as cold this Sunday (high of 45 degrees).

Time to vote

First of all, I'd like to schedule a game this weekend. Many of us have our 2 day assembly, but if we have enough that can play I'll book the rink. Please respond to this post and let me know if you can make it (leave your name too so I can keep track). This week we'd be playing from 8-10 on Sunday evening.

The reason for the late time this week is due to the Flag football league starting in Saugus. The earliest we can play while the league is going on is 8:00 on Sundays. We do have the option of playing on Saturdays though if that works better. The schedule on Saturdays is pretty open. Depending on people's availability we could either play Saturday afternoons or evenings. So let me know if Sunday from 8-10 is better, or if Saturdays are better (as well as which time). I'll try to accomodate whatever the majority would prefer.
