Hockey Sunday 6-8 Indoors

8 comments:
I want to make sure that I can book the rink early enough.  I know that Danno is out but some of his guys might play - I have to find out.  In the meantime, who else is in for Sunday?

Drizzle Alliance

12 comments:
All week we heard the media pump up the next epic New England snowstorm.

First it was 5-8 inches. Then it was 10-16 inches.

But the "storm" came with a whimper like the Alliance in playoff game. It was there. It showed up. It was a bit of a nuance. But in the end it was pushed aside. Barely noticed. Never remembered. The storm two weeks ago was called Nemo. This one is called Alliance.

All week the board listed 13 guys that were "in", 3 "maybes" and 2 players that were "never heard from". But for some reason the rink was never booked because "we didn't have enough guys". Since when is 13 guys with the potential for more not enough?

But the decision not to book the rink started to look like a good one once Sunday afternoon came around. Names off the "in" list started to drop off. None of the "maybes" or "missing" were heard from. The weather scared people off. Or so we thought.

Then the texts started rolling. Could Brett show up? Could the miraculous tape method save his chin? The Frendon Tape Method ("FTM") has been known to heal any laceration. It could heal any contusion. Do you have any torn ligaments in your body? Problem solved, here's a roll a tape. Obama care? For get about it. We just saved the country trillions. In some cases the FTM has even saved people from clutches of death. How you ask? Well, after much scientific research we have discovered the FTM is more effective the tighter you wrap it.

Would Jb show? What about Griff? Could Danno get any of the 50 people he brought last week to show up tonight? Would Nick's groin be ok?

The answer was yes to every question (ok, maybe not Griff). The hype machine got us enough guys to play some quality hockey.

We had the guys. The weather cooperated somewhat. But for some reason we didn't have the rink. Hilarious. No game. The word of the night from Johnny was "Typical". Yep that sounds about right. "Typical"? Indeed.

Welcome back Saugus hockey. We missed you.

Have fun back in Utah Dave.

Hockey This Week - 6:00 - 8:00?

17 comments:
Great turnout last week.  There were a lot of new guys, but the games were pretty well played.  I have finally updated the stats from last week and this week, so the 2013 season stats and the career stats are up-to-date.

I am going to see when the rink is available this week.  Dave will still be here to play net, and we can see if Darrin can make this one.  Who else could play this week?

Update: We have some people who are not going to make it due to the snow today, so we have to determine if it will be worth having a game or not.  I would like to decide that by 3:30 or 4:00

Here is the latest that I have had for a headcount:

In: John, Dave (G), Tony (G), Jack, Jared, Mike W, Brendon, Elliot, Andrew, Danno, Billy

Maybe: Joe, Brett, Nick

Out: Lenny, Mike D

Haven't heard from: JB, Griff

Weekly Power Rankings

2-10-13

Where We Belong

10 Andrew – Played a good game even though the hands aren’t quite there yet but he used his speed on the dump and chase and abused the dark team’s defense. I’ve never seen someone use the dump and chase as effective as he did.

9 Elliot – Really the same as Andrew because I still don’t know which one is which, but somehow Elliot was a little bit better than Andrew.

8 Billy T – Really didn’t play to his capabilities. That is all.

7 Mike W – His camera work was shaky but he more than made up for it with his shut down defense and that deke on the breakaway to get Jack to move laterally….a thing of beauty.

6 Johnny – Not getting back like he used to, Johnny got those tough angle goals and took his patented 20 minute sub after game 1. His wrap around goal was just unstoppable even with the defense and goalie in position.

5 Mike D – Will this kid make up his mind about which position he’s going to dominate? Defense? Offense? Pick one! His offensive prowess and ability to be in the right place at the right time allowed him to score a bunch of goals. If we start playing every week in Saugus, he’s only going to get better and better.

4 JB – Penalty shot goals are some of the rarest form of goals scored in Saugus, along with good goals. Even after Jared coached up Rick, JB was still able to bury the penalty shot going 5-hole. His ability to sneak up on the defense like a cat burglar was impressive.

3 Brendon – Nothing was going to stop Brendon from playing in the first Saugus game in months. Not even a gruesome, self-inflicted, slow developing hamstring and acl tear. The amount of hockey tape use to treat the injury is uncertain, but wolverine was able to heal 100% in 3 minutes, without even a sign of a limp, and never missed a shift. Brendon made Ariel never want to play any form of hockey ever again after the juke he put on her and went in for a beautiful goal on a top notch goalie, something he can and will be proud of for years to come.

2 Brett – D-D passing was a sight for sore eyes and Brett and Mike W executed it to perfection.(Brett did, Mike not so much). Brett’s 100 foot passes up the middle to a streaking teammate was a regular occurrence all night and his reprimanding of Gabe on the bench was a highlight.

1 Jared – Started the stats season off the right way, by picking a highly questionable roster. That roster ended up torching the dark team’s defense in games 1, 2 and 5. Jared led the way with goals and assists and with making Nick panic more than usual by merely using words and accusations.
