The Return of the Timely Recap

10 comments:
They said it would never be back. Our beloved and glorified stat based game of exhaustion was all but a distant memory.

The stats set in stone. Never to be added to. Records never to be broken. John Riley forever our Colossus of Clout (The Colossus of Clout).

Some said we’d never play again.

Some said they wouldn’t play again. (he did)

Empty Cries for hockey’s return were mostly scoffed at.

Saugus hockey was officially dead.

But with a stroke of a pen and 46 cents Saugus is back upon us and its back big!

Team Breakdown:

Goalies:
Johnny vs. Tony

Wingers:
Jared, Borges, Ward v.s Brett, Ron, Frendon

Defense:

Griff, Billy T vs. Nick, Reggie

Sibling Rivalry:
Andrew vs. Elliot

Game 1:

This game was by far the best game of the night. It was everything you could ask for in a game. In came down to the final seconds. Records were broken. There were some great saves. I didn’t get embarrassed on any play. And thank goodness for that or I would have tackled someone Im sure. The final was 6-5 with Brett getting a point on every goal that was scored. Thats how a first round pick performs! The game was back forth until the last 5 mins when the dark team put the game away with two goals. The game ended with ball dangling in the net.

Game 2:

The story of this game was of who didnt show up rather than who did. The only good that came from this game is that Nick didn’t tackle anyone. Otherwise this game was an utter disaster for the dark team (udder? Its kind like roomer and rumor, right?). Reggie’s game one magic on d was gone as fast as it came after getting burned by Andrew. Nick slowed down big time, with a lazy effort at best. Frendon couldn’t get the ball over the center line. Brett and Ron disappeared. The recipe for a dominating effort by the White team. A weak goal allowed by Tony capped off a 6-0 White Team win with 14 minutes still left on the clock.

Game 3:

It came down to this for the series. Unlike the first two games this was a defensive battle. Both teams were tired and goals were definitely difficult to “muster”. After matching goals to start the game the dark team (and Brett..stats!) was given a gift wrapped goal despite the shot being filthy. A 100 footer found a seam past Griff’s face and Johnny’s pads to hit twine for a 2-1 dark team lead. The dark team was able to add one more goal to clinch a victory and the series. However, the game may be in protest after Nick nearly killed Mike Ward. Did anyone ask Nick what his motives were?

"Im trying to create some space!'

"should I leave the corner of the rink, now? now? how about now?"

Mercy!

10 Brendon – Still doesn’t have the basic instincts you’d hope to see from a veteran hockey player, like not standing still in the corner on a two one 1, or not shooting it from the blue line on a 3 on 1, but his game last night was nowhere near his worst.

9 Mike W (E) – Those feet just never stop moving, but he still remains one of the most overrated defensemen in Saugus and we don’t even rate him that high to begin with.

8 Reggie (E) – Playing defense might not be his thing judging from what I observed last night, especially in game 2. But offense definitely isn’t his thing. So that leaves goalie.

7 Ron (+3) – Started off hot and then fizzled out but only in the scoring department, his play was solid throughout the night. He was setting Brett up in the slot quite a bit too. Maybe the Haverhill Cup sparked something between those two.

6 Johnny (+1) – Better than last week as he robbed Brendon many times during the night. And a shutout is a shutout. His only goal was to not drop any further on WPR and he succeeded. Isn’t that everyone’s goal each week?

5 Nick (-1) – I’m so glad I don’t ever have to go against Nick and his 14’ wingspan. But good news is that now you have people talking about PP opportunities. If I had a vote in the matter (and I do) PP opportunities would be awesome. Think of the possible stats! I’m guessing Brendon would have the worst PK % and Jared would have the most shorthanded goals. Nick drops a spot due to game #2.

4 Griff (+1) – Played uninspired until Nick mauled Mike W, but by then there was only 3 minutes left in the night. And then he maliciously tripped Brett to end the night. Something like that should never go unpunished. Can you imagine what the Dark team would have done with a 6 second PP?

3 Borges (E) – 3 goals but all in the first game. He should have never shown Brett that you can score off Johnny with a slow shot from 90’ away.

2 Brett (E) – New records are great and I love records and all (maybe it is the stick), but game 2 really tainted what was otherwise a good night for the whole Dark team. So Brett stays in 2nd.

1 Jared (E) – 24 points in 2 weeks isn’t a bad average. In game one, him and Borges looked like they were back playing in Dracut….. you know, because they scored a lot but still lost.

Honorable Mention: Elliot – Played a total of 149 seconds and made a bigger impact than his brother

Newcomers: Brendon

Drop-offs: None

Stinkin’ Joe

10 Ron (-2) – Don’t expect to see him again anytime soon.

9 Mike W (-3) – Baby. Congrats! Not enough to keep you from dropping though. It’s been a week you should’ve been there tonight.

8 Reggie – It’s a shame we didn’t have a good group for Reginald. But it was nice to see him and he didn’t completely embarrass himself while showing flashes of averageness.

7 Johnny (-2) – Why does he own goalie pads? You’d think he had never played goalie before. He’d make a diving save and then give up a slow 90 foot slap shot. I don’t care if it was dipping or curving. It’s was going 27 MPH(Brendon clocked it). Anyone with a shred of hand eye or reflexes or maybe a tiny bit of both should’ve stopped it. I’m sure everyone appreciated the fact that you played goalie though. Is that the first time a goalie has scored on another goalie?

6 Miscalculated – It’s either an empty 10th place or empty 6th place. Who cares really?

5 Griff (+2) – Definitely makes those going against him question their own safety. But I say don’t make him mad. Easy solution.

4 Nick (E) – Status quo for Nick. A tough night for a defensive defensemen to shine, and sure enough, he didn’t. Just joking. 2 Goals and 5 assists is nothing to joke about.

3 Borges(E) – Very impressed with his willingness to play net with no cup or chest protector or glove or blocker(did I miss anything). Oh yeah no goalie stick but that was to his advantage as he out produced Brad and was a greater threat than Brendon.

2 Brett (E) – Big big night for Brett, 14 points is no record other than a personal one. His ability to fight through a face full of Nick’s glove was impressive. But Nick apologized after which makes it all better right? Almost like it never happened.

1 Jared (E) – Setting records at a record pace. Jared’s 12 goals in one night will stand the test of time. That is until next week when we’re forced to play 2 on 2 with one goalie. Hopefully Johnny will play net again.

Honorable Mention: No one at all

Newcomers: Reggie

Off the List: Billy T, Darrin
