Unfortunately Friday is Booked, Who Can Play Sunday at 5:00? Or possibly Saturday?

34 comments:
Kelly told me yesterday that the rink is booked on Friday until 10:00; I am not sure if anyone would want to play at that time.  I can check with her about Sunday but Dave will be gone for a week so I need to make sure we have enough guys and enough goalies if we play this Sunday.  Let me know.  The other possibility would be Saturday since Dave will still be here (although I don't know what his plans are that day).

Also, stats are done.  I will try to post the picture of the box score tomorrow.

Out for Sunday: Dave, Praters

Out for Saturday: Praters

WEEKLY POWER RANKINGS

14 comments:
10-21-16

I'm Sorry

10 Johnny (-3) - Go back and read my last thoughts on Johnnys play. Stop relying on people to get you the ball and just go get it.

9 Brendon (+2) - Its always nice to be rewarded for doing all the little things right. His forechecking was a huge factor in many goals scored for the white team. He even, for what i believe was the first time in his life, actually took responsibility for something he did wrong instad of trying to excuse his way out of it. Thats probably the last time he'll slip up like than and appologize for his terrible play.

8 Billy (+2) - No one benefitted more from the trade than Billy. He was able to get off that titanic of a roster with dark and was able to experience what its like to play for a real TEAM.

7 Ward (-2) - Only moves down 2 but i was most disappointed with his play. Hes regressing back to a time where you have to ask yourself "did Mike even play last week?"

6 Jared (-4) - Woof! What a debacle. Its unusual to see someone quit before the night even starts. He conceeded that he wasnt going to have a good night going verse Brett and Borges and decided instead to freak out over loose sticks laying on the ground that he just didnt have the agility to avoid. Whats it liked to get owned by a 16 year old?

5 Demaio (+4) - Mike torched the dark team with 7 goals. It was like he was playing just another game in the 60 and over league in dracut.

4 Nick (-1) - Not as bad as eveyone else thought he played. Atleast he didnt complain that no one was helping him do his job for him like Jared was. Could you imagin if Nick asked Jared to play better defense because he himself wasnt getting the job done? I cant either.

3 Dave (+3) - You're gonna get weeks like this when you play ok and move up 3 spots because everyone else stunk. There was that one glove save on Joes slapper that was pretty nice.

2 Borges (+2) - The captain had his eye on all situations and was calling for subs left and right so that white team would be fresh all night. It worked to perfection, leading to production from all players. Id listen to Borges' direction any day. Unless he tried to tell me something during a timeout in a tournament in Montreal.

1 Brett (E) - A bold move to try and win a scoring title on defense. Its working so far.

WEEKLY POWER RANKINGS

74 comments:
11 Billy - By a thread. Too many goals scored in and around the front of the net. Aren't you glad you made WPR this time? I can't explain why there's 11 spots this week. It drops to 10 in future iterations.

10 Brendon - By two threads. A good first two weeks, but the third week was chalk full of slow, cerebrally bad plays. Sometimes it looks like he's trying his hardest to not make a decision with the ball. And he still doesn't know what icing is. Never mind. He's 11 this week.

9 Demaio - A nice game from Mike. He hustled to the corners and forecheck, causing turnovers and panic moves from the defense. Mike gets it. Get the ball to Jared and get open. He seems to be learning how to move without the ball which is good because he's not that great moving with the ball.

8 Jack - "Easily the best game He's ever played by a mile" - Brendon Martino. Jack was jack. Though 3-0 is nothing to be ashamed of.

7 Johnny - If this defensive center starts losing his defensive ability, what's left? If you're not gonna bury EVERY chance, you better start preventing some on the other end. Time to recommit to defense.

6 Dave - Three loses doesn't look good on the stat sheet next to a 5 GAA. But Dave easily had the tougher saves to make on Jared, Brett, Ron and even Sams one timers. Yeah on some plays he looked slow to react but for the most part he lived up to all the mediocrity.

5 Ward - If he just stuck to defense he could've ranked above nick. Sometimes when he loses focus it leads to greatness. Friday, it didn't. Maybe next week he'll learn how to make a pass up the boards without firing a slapshot at Jared.

4 Borges - Who knew he was so stinking fast? Jonny boy played a decent winger and provided the only real threat from the white team. He's always good for a crappy wrap around or a no angle goal from the boards. Come to think of it, I think his mid air goal was a high stick. So now he's a cheater.

3 Nick - Panic. I've seen him panic with Cindy forechecking. It's a problem.

2 Jared - He definitely ran more than anyone else and almost had one of the top 25 end to end to end goals I've ever seen.

1 Brett - His stick is quicker, his legs are quicker and his decisions are quicker. White team struggled all night to penetrate the zone. And even when Brendon tried the always successful dump and chase, Brett was there first and carried the ball out of danger. The only thing they could do is shove Brett from behind in frustration.

Honorable Mention: Ron - Ron had a good night and even had a game winner. But the first two weeks were sooooooo bad. It's gonna take another good week for him to crack the list.

Pre-Season Rankings

9 comments:
12 Brendon - He'll be picked over favreau and demaio for a few weeks till he starts calling icing and offsides at all the wrong times leading to captains not wanting to deal with him for 2 full hours and the loss of what little hope he had for having an enjoyable year. 55 goals and the headphones make a tiumphant return.

11 Demaio - The hair has become distracting at this point. His only hope is to cut it and i have as much faith in that happening as i do him voluteering to play defense all year long. Which he should do by the way. Sorry but 100 points this year seems unlikely. Im guessing attendance drops off as he finally gets fed up with 3 on 3, though his attendance at BWW will remain strong.

10 Favreau - Pretty sad that the biggest surprise on the list comes in the 9 spot, but this year, favreau will grow leaps and bounds as a player. I have complete confidence that he will atleast learn how to hold the stick properly. 40 goals. Yes! 40 goals this year.

9 Griff - This is where he'd be if he was gonna play. Under 55 games played. But a lock for montreal next year.

8 Praters - These two are the future of saugus hockey. Its a shame this is the last year we'll ever play. 200 points combined.

7 Johnny - the over under has been set to 7 weeks till johnny loses intrest in stats due to his own stats flatlining. 4th in scoring even tho there still will be no one covering him in the slot.

6 Ward - He'll be playing defense most games. Forgetting shin pads and gloves every other week wont stop him from hitting the 100 goal plateau.

5 Borges - He'll start the night playing center, but when jared starts going ballistic over ward and thomas giving up 2 on 0 breaks, borges will drop back, resulting in jared whining about no help on offense. Borges ends up with 150 points and somehow a better winning percentage than jared even though theyll be on the same team every week.

4 Dave - I just want you to think for a minute about the other goalies dave will be going against before you go and scoff at him being at number four. 3.6 goals against average and a 68 winning percentage.

3 Nick - Nick will have games that he takes off and doesnt care about but as soon as the sox are out of the playoffs, he'll focus and be a staunch defenseman. His points will drop but his value as a defenseman will never be higher with the talent each week being higher than it has in the past few years.

2 Brett - This is the year his shin splints finally clear up and he can play unimpeded, enabling him to fully display his level 10 talent. This is also the year he blows out both acls. Hes on borrowed time. 70 games played. More goals than assists this year.

1 Jared - It wont be his attendnce record that makes him the most effective player this year. Itll be his defense. Just the slightest bit of improved defensive awareness will pay dividends in the win percentage department. No recordsetting points this year but beats Brett by 20.

Honorable Mention

Ron - You should play ice hockey more. Julians the worst.

Joe - No one comes to the site to see where joe ranked, so he didnt make the list. Dave is not going to enjoy playing with joe and all his screening.

Hockey this Friday - 7:00 Inside Rink

Weekly Power Rankings

10 comments:
Bloop-a-saurus
6-11-16

11 Billy - Billy Billy Billy. Once, a long time ago, I mean a really long time ago, he was a physical specimen. A 5 tool player some may or may not have said. Able to perform at a high level in any sport. Now he struggles with old age, a puppy, a fear of pop-flys and choosing proper footwear for the occasion. If only he could hit a softball as far as he drives a golf ball.

10 Dale, Kelly, Dan – It was nice to see you guys again.

9 Ariel – When she didn't make it to practice on Monday, I knew not to expect much from her. If we're going purely off expectations in these rankings though, Ariel did infinitely better than I expected with a single and a sac RBI (or RBIs?). But we're not.

8 Karen – When Ashley bailed on her team, Karen saved the day. She arrived with a smile on her face, a brand new glove, and a no quit attitude. Some of her finest moments were her hits, her ability to hide behind Borges as he took a ball off the face and making it to first base upright. Karen also gets extra point for ruining Dales entire day.

7 Ward – Ward has become accustom to being the MVP of tournaments, but not this time. His 1.000 batting average quickly plummeted as the day progressed and I cant say I remember him ever making a catch in right field. I do remember seeing the ball smashed over his head repeatedly and his base running left something to be desired.

6 Johnny – Johnny's rankings suffers severely as he became a casualty of the swing and miss. But his positioning in the infield proved to be most important. He had to cover a lot of the infield as he snagged scorchers up the middle and threw strikes to Griff at first. He was also the only one who was able to throw a strike to Karen; something that was previously thought to be impossible.

5 Borges – Played a solid short stop and was never afraid to get his body in front of a hard hit of poorly thrown ball. He drove in important runs in key games and accomplished the unbelievable feat of getting Billy to play which ultimately was a mistake, but impressive none the less. The only thing more impressive was when he swung and completely missed. Make sure you get your eyes checked and maybe even learn the rules before you decide to ump a game ever again.

4 Brett – It was tough deciding whether swinging and missing was worse than what Brett tried to do. But at least we all got a good chuckle out of what he did. There's nothing funny about swinging and missing. Brett moving to left settled things down defensively in the outfield and his hitting was as expected. Except for that incredible HR he hit in the championship game. Brett 3, Jimmy 1.

3 Griff – Nothing too exciting ever happens at 1st base. Griff did a respectable job at the corner and was the only one who hit a legitimate home run. But his hitting on the rest of the day was sub par. I was more impressed with how he kept his emotions in check. If he didn't, he would've actually tried to break that bat over his knee and been out for the rest of the tournament. Having that second kid must have really mellowed him out.

2 Jared – Fence!!

1 Nick – Impressive. I really was impressed with Nick's fielding more than anything. More impressed than when he scored a goal on a wrist shot. I don't think anyone else on the team or any other team makes all the plays that Nick made at 3rd. I don't remember too much of what he did at the plate so I guess it wasn't that great or that bad. Which probably means he was the best on the team there too.

 - All Penalties such as tripping, high-sticking, slashing, hooking, berating the ref, incessant complaining, Firing the ball at an opposing goalie during a stoppage in play, Jared yelling "I GOT IT" to a player on the NB team in order to confuse him will all result in a penalty shot for the other team.

- If a player amazingly has enough time to commit 2 penalties in 1 game, he will be ejected from that game and his team will play a man down the rest of the way. This has been adjusted due to the fact that Nicks team only has 4 players.

- Goalies can only cover the ball in front of the goal line. Resulting in his team getting the ball behind the net. If a goalie covers it behind the goal line, the opposing team will get the ball in the corner.

- Games will consist of 2 six minute halves for a total of 12 minutes per game, running time.

- After a goal is scored, the scoring team must retreat to the half court line until an opposing player or the ball crosses the half court line.

- Overtime goes to a shootout except in the finals, where addition 6 minute periods will be played until there is a goal.

- Slapshots are allowed.

- Roller blades are allowed.

- Hitting the drone with a clearing attempt or shot will result in immediate expulsion from the currant and all future Haverhill Cups.

- Due to the late draft, trades will be allowed up until the start of the 6th game of the season.

Trade!!!!

4 comments:
With only a week left, Jared and me have struck a deal once again. Leaving team Jared are demaio and Billy and tony for Johnny and Melo and ron. All owed jerkey has been transferred to brett. All beer owed remains to jared. Discuss.

Trade Announcement

No comments:
Team Brett and Team Jared have agreed to terms on a deal

Mike D, an additional bag of jerky and a six pack to Team Jared for Frendon.

Brett will recycle all empty cans.

One Source close to the situation said the deal "is a wash for both teams and will have no impact on the results of the Haverhill cup. I'm not sure either will even make the opening roster. Hopefully the second bag of jerky is as high quality as the first bag...though details were not thorough."

What team is Mike December on again?

Can Brett and Jared get one more blockbuster done?

2016 Haverhill Cup Draft

29 comments:
Keeping with tradition, Ashley, with a little help from Aaron, was forced to determine the order of the draft. Borges got the number one pick in the draft followed by Jared and then Brett.

The best defenseman anyone has ever seen went first to Borges. Trade talks immediately ensued, followed by a full five minute decision on Jared's part to make a pick everyone knew he was going to make anyway. On the hair pin turn Brett took Ron and Johnny proving that Griff not showing up really really hurt his draft position. Just how far would he slide? Jared picked Griff next, with Borges then taking Billy Thomas and Tony. Will Tony be in net or at wing? TBD. Here's where Jared again had to make a tough decision. Take a goalie or take Brendon? He took Demaio. Brett was left with Melo and Brendon while Jared then was given Jack and Borges got Favreau.

So here's the breakdown

1 Nick
2 Ward
3 Ron
4 Johnny
5 Griff
6 Billy T
7 Tony
8 Demaio
9 Melo
10 Brendon
11 Jack
12 Favreau

Ref: Maybe Reggie

But wait the night was not over. Not 10 minutes after the draft was complete a blockbuster trade came to fruition. Trader Jared started flinging offers at the wall and finally one stuck. Jared sent Griff and Jack to Borges for Billy T and Tony. A trade the experts are saying hurt both teams somehow.

Team 1: Borges, Nick, Griff, Favreau, Jack
Team 2: Jared, Ward, Billy T, Demaio, Tony
Team 3: Brett, Ron, Johnny, Brendon, Melo

Stay tuned for more inevitable trades in the next 6 weeks.

Rules are the same as every year. As far as the length of games go, we could do 5, 6, or 7 minutes halves. A captain not playing will need to ref each game. As far as the playoff format goes, we can do best of three for every round. If that's the case, I think we should do 5 or 6 minute periods for the games.

Any questions or suggestions are welcome.

Haverhill Cup Mock Draft

6 comments:
The 2016 Haverhill Cup is right around the corner.  Those butterflies and nerves you are all experiencing are completely normal in anticipation.  New arrivals are coming this year as we put all of our eggs in one basket expecting an entire team of guys we don't know to travel 3 hours, book a hotel, and spend the day shoveling snow off a court.

That leaves Brett, JB, and Jared to pick up the remaining teams from a roster that currently is:

Ron, Griff, Ward, Nick, Demaio, Billy, Johnny, Favro, Brendon.   With Steve Jack and Tony as goalies.

1. Nick-  Poor Nick is 6 years removed from his only H.C. trophy.  The game has changed, and maybe he hasn't been able to adapt.  Still he will go #1 to Brett, who will want to score every goal for his team and steal all the glory.

2.  Ward- Of course Jared takes Mikey, with delusions of bringing back the dream team a couple years ago and snagging Ron in round two.  This pick back fires horribly.

3.  Ron- JB quickly takes Ron, mostly to spite Jared.  A very common two time champion had quite the performance last year.  He's overdue to bail out last minute.  I say he's the one to throw a monkey wrench in all of this.

4.  Griff- The Co-MVP of last years cup (not sure if the award was formally handed out), Griff and Ron will be once again paired together.  Perhaps this will finally be enough for JB to win, if not I'm sure he'll pretend the cup doesn't matter to him.

5.  Johnny- Easy pick here, Johnny and Jared will look to keep pace scoring with Ron and JB.  Suddenly Brett's 30 mock drafts are blown up and he realizes what a terrible mistake picking up the defensive defenseman 1st overall was.

6. Tony- Probably the best goalie on the board, a new strategy of "defense wins championships" is formed.  Brendon is sitting next to Brett at BWW during this pick and is a little perplexed as to why he was overlooked.

7. Billy- Ugh, even Brett knows this draft is a mess.  Trade talks immediately are underway.

8. Steve- What a positive guy!  Jared and Steve have probably lost more street hockey games than any other player/goalie combo ever.  Is there a way to check that on the database?  Another no brainer, the Haverhill cup is just too long of a day for Jack.

9. Mike D-  Once again, this had more to do with Demaio sitting next to JB during his pick.  Everyone is losing interest in the draft anyways.

10.  Jack-  Borges tries to pick Favro, claiming he doesn't want a goalie this year.  But after 15 minutes of half joking banter, Brett just writes Jack down on paper.

11. Favro- You should see the look on Brendon's face at this point.

12. Brendon- All captains suddenly realize we are going to get crushed by this mystery traveling team.

Brett, Brendon, Nick, Billy and Tony (G)
JB, Ron, Griff, Demaio and Jack (G)
