Hockey Sat 12/1 @ 7pm

No comments:
I just booked the rink. I had to call back today because Paul was unable to look up the info yesterday and he tells me that the rink is more popular on Saturdays so the only time slot available was 7-9. So I grabbed it. Let us know if this is a problem for anyone. It’s just an hour difference so I doubt it will be.

WEEKLY POWER RANKINGS

"I Played In High School"

10 Jason - Some people don’t realize just how big Jason’s hips are. They sneak up on you when you try to go around him.

9 Billy T - Played well in the first 2 games and even had a pretty end to end play. But in game three he started to show flashes of what he was last week. I don't even want to think of what he would've looked like if we played a forth game, which by the way, hasn't happened in a long time.

8 Brendon (E) - Actually did well switching between defense and wing. Something ward couldn’t handle last week.

7 Jared - Don’t want to put him too high; not sure if this weeks output was a fluke or not. But 5 goals in a game is always an accomplishment. And he was only able to accomplish that feat by humbly trading himself to the other team for the greater good.

6 JB (-1) - “We’re all here to have fun”! If anyone else said those words they would’ve been ridiculed to no end. I put this quote up there with “I just hope my stick doesn’t break”. Borges should be embarrassed. Not just for uttering those words but for not checking the site for WPR every week.

5 Nick (-1) - "I wanna play with Borges"(lots of quotes this week). I hope he had his fill. That was a debacle. Well except for game 3. That seemed pretty fun for them.

4 Johnny (-1) - Those long range goals are tough. I’m not joking either. The ball moves quite a bit. But nevertheless, they are heart breakers.

3 Ward (+3) - The one bright spot for white team.

2 Dave (E) - That one play where he stopped Brett’s first 7 shots before one finally squeaked through really encapsulated the first 2 games. He gave up more goals than Johnny but stats are for losers

1 Brett (E) - Speaking of losers, Brett loses because he’s good. Jared loves to hear people say “Brett’s the best” because that means his team gets better and he can keep firing in shots from 80 feet away. Instead of other players doing more to make the teams even, they keep taking from Brett. Instead of Nick focusing on defense with Papa Meat by his side, he rushes the ball and gives up on plays. Instead of Borges playing high in the slot and using his great shot to score on Johnny, he goes deep in the zone and can’t get back when demaio whips a blind pass to no one, or he just kicks the ball the other team. But apparently all the problems in Saugus get fixed if Brett pays more attention to when the other teams players sub.

Honorable Mention: Mini Meat - I’m not sure if he’ll ever be considered a skill player. Actually I’m sure he won’t. But that back check on Jared was pretty good to see. You can’t get mad at players when the don’t do something they aren’t capable of doing. But everyone can hustle and Pete is starting to be consistent in that area.

YAR'S Revenge

(In this case, Jared is Yar)

Welp, Jared sure got his revenge for last week. The only player with three wins. Everyone raise your hand if you had a few plays you would like back from yesterday's game. It was kinda ugly, at times....or maybe just the whole two hours...Just call me Mr. Butterfingers...

No One Ever Forgets Their First

10 Pete the 🥩- His first goal was unspectacular and possibly unintentional. But it is what it is. Him and Jared had the same amount of goals. More than any other part of his game, I’d like to see him work on his face-off dropping ability.

9 Jack - Played as expected.

8 Brendon (+1) - Grading on a curve of course, Brendon played great along side Nick. He seemed to simplify his game; suppressing his inclination to try and trick the dark players. Bottom line is he’s coachable. Just go and watch the flashback if you don’t believe me.

7 Andrew (-4) - Played well enough. Unfortunately his 3 goals, which are usually plenty from someone on defense, weren’t enough.

6 Ward - How can you expect ward to get in a groove when you keep moving him from center to wing to defense back to center? Give him a position and leave him there and he’ll be fine, as long as it’s not defense or center.

5 JB (-4) - Zack Morris method has worked fairly well so far thanks to Borges. But his “do as I say not as I do” method didn’t work quite so well. You can’t tell billy “nothing gets behind us” (exact quote) and then try and step up to keep a 50/50 ball in against Brett 5 seconds later.

4 Nick (E) - If he ever retires again, he may want to think about coaching. Moving Brett to left to help Brendon......Belichekian.

3 Johnny (+4) - Dare I say he was better on face offs than Borges all night. He ruined Brett’s bid at a 5 goal game.

2 Dave (+4) - There were long stretches where the white team was gassed and unable to get back on defense and where Pete was at the bench trying to recover from a ball that grazed his thigh leaving Dave to make some heroic stops.

1 Brett (+1) - I would love to see the team difficulty rating from Sunday. All this talk of how white team was expected to win is a load. Especially when the player who was able to choose what team he wanted says it. If a team loses with the better goalie, it’s because he had an off night. If a team loses with the lesser goalie, well of course, they had no chance. Brett was able to identify the weak link on the dark team and attack attack attack. I’m surprised dark team didn’t try the same thing seeing as it was 5 against 3.5 all night.

Honorable Mention - Billy T: He has a Moe’s hooded sweatshirt. And nothing he did Sunday can take that away.
