Cast your votes!!!

Three new Polls to think about. I know one will have a runnaway winner, but I couldn't resist!
This method will work fine if you let the system work. Simply select your top players for each category and watch the tallies grow. I would recommend you select 3-5 choices. Like was mentioned before, we realize people can screw around and vote several times for themselves. Obviously no can stop you, but let’s not do that ans just have some fun and see how things shake out. In past POLLS we typically have 15-20 people taking part.

I tried to vote for myself for one poll question (I wont say which one becuz you know who i might be) but after submitting the vote I got a page error.

Anonymous said...

Post the error next time so someone can help you figure it out.

Anonymous said...

Ok all you Non Techs out there. If your having problems with the Polls... it's your fault!

Depending on the error, you'll need to delete your blogger cookies. Close and restart browser.

I agree with Brendon, copy the specific error or cut and paste and email it to me.

Brett has a most improved defense vote! That's got to be considered a slap in the face. OUCH! Give him another one.

Bretts defense has been solid since day one. Sure he's had stand out games once in a while, but most improved?

Brett let's have the other cheek pleace...SLAP!!!

Anonymous said...

There is no question in this person's mind, Brett has a secret admirer in the early going.

It's so obvious of who it is, but I'll keep my ha ha hee hee's to myself.

Also I think we're missing some good poll questions. Can we add more?

Anonymous said...

i would like to thank my secret admirer for my strong push in most of the polls in the early going.

i myself voted in all honesty, which didn't include me in every vote(only a couple).

May the best man win!!

billy's getting no love

Anonymous said...

can i clear my computer so that ariel can give her votes?

She was an observer most of the time and has a good overall opinion of what went on during the games

Anonymous said...

I need a 20 second saved by the bell time out here.

There are not 30 people who visit this site. I'd say it's maybe 10-12 of us. This leads me to believe Brett and Ariel spent 4 hours at the Braintree Public Library voting for Brett and sabotaging the polls on 18 different computers.

Brett, you do not play injured, you cut yourself last game and sat out leading to our triumphant comeback.

Billy is the Better Driscol.

I'm looking at you too Brendon, stop voting for yourself on defensive categories.

and that's the way the cookie crumbles

Anonymous said...

the crumbs aren't my mess

Anonymous said...

just vote and shut up. don't complain cause you're not at the top on every poll.

it sounds like you haven't gotten any votes at all.

i was surprised to see me with votes on the playing while injured, although i did keep playing when my head got knocked off by jared(even though i played crappy, i still played)

billy is the concussion king

First, let me let out a sigh...

(SIGH)

Ok.

When I see this voting array, I can't help but think of the puppies at the pet store, whimpering and scratching at the glass, trying to push themselves to the forefront, just for a chance at being noticed by the oblivious customers above. They put every kibble-fueled ounce of energy into having their little bark be the one adequately heard through the boogery glass walls. Their muffled yelps shamelessly cry: "Look at ME!" "Give ME a pat on the head!" "Validate ME!"

Fortunatly for them, they are cute puppies and often find loving homes and the attention they so desprately want.

When grown men (or should I say "groan" men) display the same puppy-like enthusiasm for substantiation...it's not so cute, it's pathetic.

At the end of a good season full of good games, we should be hearing things like:
"Good game Skip!",
"Exemplary sportsmanship Alfred!",
or "Pauly, that pass was the cat's meow!"

Instead, we are now debating, bickering over who was better than others in various ways. Sad.

That being said, vote for Brett in every category.

Thank You.

(Paid for by the committee to elect Brett Driscoll)

Anonymous said...

When I started to read your "puppy" diatribe, I too let out a sigh as my left eyebrow slowly ascended, forming the universal sign of skepticism. But as I reflected on your words, I found myself agreeing with you.

Not since probably the turn-of-the century Nova Scotia has an individual risen to the occasion and excelled in every aspect of the game of hockey. Brett would most likely be a formidable rover, if that position still existed!

I'm sorry that I did not fully appreciate Brett's talent until the season was over.

Oh, maybe I was mesmerized by Billy's mighty shot, Eric's blazing speed, or, um...uh, I guess those two were the only mesmerizing ones.

But still, how could Brett have flown under the radar? I'm sure you all are now asking yourself the same question!

It's a shame that now, due to the end of the season, we can no longer in some small, crappy way, recognise Brett for his superlative play next to a subpar field.

WAIT A MINUTE! WE CAN!

I echo the previous statement, by saying that we should vote for Brett in all applicable categories!

Because if you don't, then you didn't, and you can't undo not doing it, and I for one won't not!

Anonymous said...

WOW Brett, What a pathetic way to get votes. It must have taken you all night to type that. But I do admire your moxie. I'll throw some votes your way. Anything to make sure Eric doesn't win anything.

Anonymous said...

Hey Mr. Votes, you don't want Eric to win anything? You must be either a goalie that got wrecked, or a linemate that was shown up. Ha Ha Ha! You are more pathetic than Brett's committee!

Anonymous said...

you must be either a moron or an idiot. sorry, my mistake. you are both.

Anonymous said...

Whoa, Whoa. Calm down there chief! Obviously there are some hurt feeling there. You don't need to be calling me names. All I'm saying is that everyone is voting on who they think is the best in a certain category. Don't vote for somebody just because it takes a vote away from a person you don't want to win! If you don't want Eric to win anything, don't vote at all. Don't just throw votes at Brett

Anonymous said...

I dont have hurt feelings, just tell your buddy Eric to pass more. If I had the puck the whole game, I'd win some games myself.

Show me one category Eric should win!

Anonymous said...

Yeah, OK, keep telling yourself that! I'm sure you have incredible hockey skills and lightning fast speed but due to Eric, you never had that "Breakout game". HA!
Alright, I've already spent too much time responding to you. Lighten up.

Anonymous said...

wait, which one was Eric, ah nevermind, I'll vote for him.

Anonymous said...

All this bickering is pointless. Just vote and shut up. No poll is perfect and no poll will determine the reality of anything. It's a POLL.

It's not the real NHL awards we're voting for here, in case you didn't know. Even if the votes come out extremely lopsided, it will only show up whomever was voting for themselves.

Lastly, I never voted once for myself, but I did place several votes for others who were accused of voting for themselves in this thread, so lay off them - no one is throwing the votes. Wait until the results come in. And if you don't like how people are voting (wah, wah, I didn't get any votes yet!) then show up and play better next year and prove us all wrong.

Anonymous said...

i really want to know who's voting for me on things like - most improved defence.

how bad was i?

Anonymous said...

Why is there more than one option for Best Hockey Moment? Seriously, Ariel taking out Brendon is not just a funny moment, it was life-changing hilarity!

Thank you for adding that to the poll so I can think about it again! >-D

Anonymous said...

Brett, I voted for you for person that leaves it all out on the floor, because you leave everything. Like blood and vomit.

Anonymous said...

Brett is most improved on D because his attitude has gotten a lot better since game 1. He was an absolute jerk months ago, now he is just kind of a jerk.

Alright, I've has enough of the shameless advertising on the part of Brett Driscol and his half-wit cronies. It's time we set the record straight:

1. Jared is way more unselfish than Brett. If you pass to Brett, he picks up the puck and puts it in his pocket.

2. Ron has a way harder shot than Brett. But to be fair, Brett's slapshot is pretty hard, if you take into account the circumference of his arms.

3. Riley is a better MVP candidate than Brett. If Riley sits out a game, it effects your lines and your matchups. If Brett sits out a game, it's to be expected since he's always smashing his face on something.

4. On this point I actually agree with Brett: Brett is not the most improved Defenseman. It's like giving a rookie the "comeback of the year" award. Really, the first-year guys shouldn't be on the ballot for that category. Give your vote to Brendon or Nick.

5. Billy Driscol is rookie of the year. He has a better quality shot than either Brett or Eric, and a better sense of the game. Yeah, he's bailed on a few games but that shouldn't count against him. Second place has to go to Eric, even if it's for his speed alone.

6. Brett doesn't block shots with his body...on purpose.

7. Most improved on offense, same as before: vote for Nick, first year guys shouldn't qualify.

8. Ron should be the captain, Jared and Brett should be assistant captains.

9. If you vote somebody as an "instigator", don't also give them a vote as a "gentleman"!

Really, Billy deserves a little more support in the polls than what he's getting. There are also some other snubs in other categories that may need a second look.

But the bottom line is, with support or without, Brett is NOT sweeping the awards this year.

Anonymous said...

1. When Brett takes the ball from behind the net, he not looking to pass to anybody. He is going solo, end to end. I give him credit for having the skill to make it to the other end more often than not. Ron has the big goose egg for this poll is strange to this persons take. Ron has the puck handling ability to bring it in the offensive zone, but once in the zone he always looks for the trailer and can make the pass thru the defender to the open player. He also uses the points for shots on goal.

2. This poll was for hardest shot and most accurate. Yes I think Ron has a definite edge, but Billy, Eric, JB, Scott and Bob all shine in this category. I would then put Brett, Jared and Brendon next.

3. I don’t believe Riley is the most skilled or the most complete player of all the candidates. But he gets up for each game and carries the intensity week in and week out. He makes players around him step it up too. I have to agree with first persons take, he wins the MVP. I think Borges, Jared are worthily candidates.

4. Hands down, Nick wins most improved defensemen

5. Ditto on this one too. Billy is the rookie of the year. He brings energy and can play the game well. I think Billy plays best when he has a complement of his skills with him. Eric is an awesome one man wrecking crew, but he needs to work on getting other people involved.

6. Who really blocks shots? That kid Jesse does and with no protective gear!

7. Most improved on offense… I guess Nick can claim this one too.

8. Team captains should be voted by the team, I say let that be the way. Think about this quote from a coach, "You want your captain to embody all the great parts of an athlete. They're supposed to be fearless. They're supposed to rise to the challenge and not bend. They're supposed to be tough mentally, a great example for their teammates to follow during the grind they face in the playoffs."

9. Instigator and gentleman type play? Hahaha, yes, you can’t and shouldn’t be in both polls.

Anonymous said...

how can you say that i don't pass? i finished the season with more assists than goals. and not due to the fact that someone scored on a rebound from my shot.

when i was on a line with brendan and riley(6 games i believe), i set them up all game. I would carry the puck i'll admit, but that's because i think i could create open space for my line mates which did happen alot.

you don't have a player like johnny who sets up in the slot carry the puck, and i don't think brendan's more capable then me at taking the puck in.

i don't have a hard shot, that's why i pass so much.

you have to play to the strengths of your line and that's what i was doing.

and to touch on the MVP point. i sat out(was knocked out) a game that we were winning 4-2 and the other team came back and won. Riley has never sat out a game, so how can you justify that point. I'm not saying i'm MVP but please back up your opinion with some credible info

Anonymous said...

Well Brett, There goes your chance at the humility award!
(Just kidding. You were never in the running!)

First- Nobody is saying that you don't pass. Sure, there have been some humorous swipes at your expense, but to never pass is unrealistic. The poll is called "most unselfish" there's really no stats to back that up. You probably wont win this but that doesn't nessarily make you the most selfish.

Also, your story about being on the line with Riley and Brendan shows that you both carry the puck and pass. Fine, but that doesn't qualify you as "pass first" as the poll asks.

Second- You don't have "the hardest" shot. I agree. You have a pretty good shot, though. When you say that you are a passer because your shot isn't that hard, sorry, I don't buy it.

Third- Your quote: "you have to play to the strengths of your line and that's what i was doing."

As the game plays out and the line sets up the play, there could be many positions and matchups. So even your weakest player, if positioned just right (say, for example, an open net to the goalie's left) can become a "strength". So to call yourself weak on the lines is a pretty inaccurate assessment.

Fourth- About the MVP. All you provided is a one-game snapshot of a time that you left a game and your team lost a lead, and then added that Riley doesn't sit out. Okay, why did your team lose that game? Even if it was because your team couldn't make plays without you, that doesn't put you above Riley in the MVP race. If anything, the fact that Riley doesn't sit out games makes him an even better MVP candidate.

By the way, if somebody says "if so-and-so sits out a game, this and that happens..." Those are hypotheticals. Not real instances.

Brett, you and your committee should promote yourself as a good defenseman and a prospective assistant captain, not a passer and an MVP!

Anonymous said...

saying riley has never sat out wasn't a knock on him. I was just saying you can't make that point based on something that has never happened.

the whole passing thing, i guess defence should be the most "pass first" people because they always pass it out of the zone right?

if it's a two on one i pass with out a question, even when it wouldn't be best to pass, i do it to a fault. i have no confidence in my shot especially from the point, i've always been that way on ice and street. carrying the puck has nothing to do with whether i pass or shoot first.

and i think i've proven myself more capable on offence than defence. and i don't believe i called myself a weak player. if that's how you took it i'm sorry but i didn't mean it like that

in saugus i played about half my game on defence and half on offence(a few more on defence) i won all the games that i won while playing offence and none while playing defence.

MVP isn't a stretch for me since you can put me at any position and i can perform with the best of them.

and i didn't sit out, that's not fair to say, i was injured and bleeding.

when thornton and murray were on a line, who carried the puck and passed first? and who set up in the slot? the answer is obvious

and who this "commity" is, i don't know.

Anonymous said...

You can't be an mvp player with that terrible winning percentage.

Anonymous said...

Alex ovechkin was, A-Rod was for the Texas Rangers. and i was right around .500 i think. of course it's not as high as someone who plays games 3 on 3 all night long and racks up the points and still counts the games. Talk about skewed stats

Anonymous said...

Interesting points, but do the stats back you up.

Ovechkin played for the Number 3 seed Washington Capitals who were 8 games above 500, so that argument doesn't work.

A-Rod won the MVP in 2003 for the terrible Texas Rangers. That year they went 71-91 giving them a 43.83 winning percentage.

You Brett, somehow managed a horrendous 43.75 winning percentage, which is even worse than those Rangers.

And we think A-Rod isn't clutch, you don't have ONE GAMEWINNER?!?!?!

Is that a joke? I mean look at some of the names up there, people who just played only one week this whole season!

I would think an MVP would step up in the clutch once in a while, right?

Anonymous said...

First off,

To be fair to Brett, the fact that skaters are given statistics for "winning percentage" is pretty stupid to begin with. It doesn't give an accurate measure of a player's performance, even over the course of a season. If certain ones like that stat, fine. But it doesn't make sense to use it to make a case for or against someone in a category.

Sometimes coaches are judged like that (probably because there aren't any other coaching stats other than w-l record). However, Lest we forget Belichick's .450 win percentage before being hired by the Pats!

Ok, that being said...

Seriously Brett, MVP isn't a stretch for you because you can play "with the best of them"? That's something that would be said to describe an all-star reserve, not a possible MVP!

To me, the MVP should be somebody whose team relies on the most, and suffers the most as a result of their absence.

It's hard to say that about a defenseman, unless they proved to be awesome on defense as well as a scoring threat (like a Bobby Orr). But the forward with the best skill set combined with a good share of scoring best fits the criteria. To me, that's more like Riley, but you could even maybe make a case for Billy.

Brett, you can spin it any way you want but I don't see you winning the MVP. And, with you pleading your MVP case, you might effect your chances at winning best defenseman.

Anonymous said...

i don't plan on winning it, don't worry.

should glen murray have been MVP for getting the most goals for the bruins in a year? they wouldn't have made the playoffs without him. but most would say no. why? you can find a scorer anywhere, if no one sets him up he doesn't score, right? that's why thornton was MVP on the Sharks, over 90 assists, but only 30 goals.

shouldn't being able to play all possitions gives me the best "skill set"? Who would you take on your team: a guy who can be on the first line on defence, right wing, left wing, center....anything your team might need, or just a first line centerman or wing man or defenceman? and defence is a joke in saugus anyway, no one is good there, and no one improved, everyone got worse on D. it should be a 15 way tie for last. i guess if i don't win it, it should be a wake up call to me that my game has slipped quite a bit on defence.

And the fact that i have no gamewinners just testifies to the fact that i set up the game winners.

who would be the first person you'd pick to go to florida?

And i'm not expecting my name to be first on anyones list. but i would like to know who everyones first pick would be and why

Anonymous said...

Oh my,

Ok, first of all: Why, as a rabid Canadiens fan, why are you using all of these Bruins analogies? I had no idea you felt so strongly about Glen Murray!

Second, Being able to play all positions is not the definition of a good "skill set", it's called being versatile.
Yes, I would call you versatile for being able to play offense, good D, and occasionally in net. But I would say your brother has a better skill set. He has speed, a hard shot with accuracy, good passing ability, and good awareness.

Third, your quote "And the fact that i have no gamewinners just testifies to the fact that i set up the game winners."
How so? Are you telling me that you set up all of the game-winning goals?...I didn't think so.

I'm not the one who brought up that fact in the first place. I actually think that "gamewinners" are overrated. But that being said, the Guru's got a point, you should have played a little better in the clutch.

And to answer your question...
MY FLORIDA DRAFT BOARD TOP 5:

1. Riley - The MVP, awesome skills.

2. Ron - The hardest shot going.

3. Billy - Best all-around player.

4. Brett - Defenseman.

5. Eric - The fastest player on offense.

Brett, you have great skills, but you have to keep your hockey focus on Florida. Don't worry about the polls. And ripping the guys at Saugus is really pointless.

Anonymous said...

you need to let me know who you are so that i can take into conciderations who's viewpoint i'm arguing against.

there are too many pointless points you bring out for me to respond to.

here is a list of everyones best and worst asset as i see it

Riley - Can finish a play, lead footed.

Billy - Shooting(or speed), tries to pass when he should fire away.

Jared - speed, passing

Borges - hard to pin-point his best(shot i guess), points figers to blame everyone

Eric - stick handling (obviously), selfish

Ron - Shot, injury prone

Bob - positional defence, penalties

Brett - playmaker (most might say defence, those who aren't good at scouting tallent), bad passes out of the zone(while playing defence)

and who did i rip?

i said everyone, that includes me. it's called an honest observation

who would you pick to start your team?

i pick eric.

your move . . . .

and the whole bruins thing . . . i had to relate it to something you could relate to. i wouldn't think to many people have seen the canadiens play too much.

your right i think it is time to focus on florida, i'm just not sure if the person i'm debating with is even going himself

Anonymous said...

new poll . . . . will scott fin. go to florida and lead the long necks to victory?

Anonymous said...

Brett, why do you need to know who's making the comments to you? A true statement, said by anybody, is still true. It doesn't matter from what viewpoint it's coming from. You just want to know who said it so you can "debate"?
You just want to know who to rip on.

Instead of making an ordered list of everybody's flaws why don't you just focus on yourself and the areas you need to work on. If you have some constructive criticism for people, fine, but this "your move" business, give me a break! Just take good advice when you get it.

which leaves the dales and the nicks(the dumb class)which you(the smart kid) are better than.

you played three times as manny games as brett and eric.

your PPA was around one where brett and erics were close to two, johnny and jared were over 2 a game.

but like i said your good, just not in the class with the likes of billy and eric and jared and the others

Anonymous said...

i agree griff is not in that class of people

Anonymous said...

please put the comment that was removed back on. i missed it!!

for that reason, that is why Griff is better. No one get's under the other teams skin better than him.

And defense goes to him. whether the stats say one thing or another, Griff's method on defense isn't to leave his man alone so as to trick the other players into passing to your man, and then stealing the pass. he plays hard on defense and no one wants to go into the corners with him.

something the other players listed don't have

Anonymous said...

griff is a dirty player thats why no one wants to get into the corner with him

Anonymous said...

what position would you consider your self to be the best at brendon?

if it's not defense, then there's no room for you on offense with Johnny Eric and others leading the way.

I'll say this, you are not first line, but not fourth line either.

your second line at best, when on a hot streak

Anonymous said...

it's so stupid winning percentage is counted for players.

When the discussions started over "who-is-better-than-who", some people have had many different viewpoints.

Here's a solution:

1.) Grab a piece of paper and a pen.

2.) Number the sheet of paper from 1 to 10.

3.) Write your own name next to the number 1.

4.) Fill in numbers 2-10 with other peoples' names.

5.) Keep repeating to yourself: "This is the REAL list, This is the REAL list!"

Keep your player rankings list hidden, and never discuss them. Remember: YOU have the REAL list.

Problem solved. Everyones a winner.

Anonymous said...

Nick is a good defensman, but to say he is even close to Griff, forget better than him, is a joke. Griff is always a top 5 pick in Saugus. He does the intangable things. So as the evalutor of all scouts, you have lost all scouting privilages!!!

Anonymous said...

I appeal to all of you asking for my forgiveness... I have done some awful things in my life and the one that tops off the list would be my pretending to be "The Better Driscoll", when i know i will never match up to his awesomeness.
The other day, i went posting away as Billy, saying that i had gotten my tickets. Well my fellow long necks and cronies alike... (depressed sigh) ..... It is false.
Billy will not be going to Florida as a Long Neck. Though as a team we desperately need him, he will not be joining our ranks.

Anonymous said...

I'll be there in Florida, definately.

Brendon, you should read your comments before you post them, you write some pretty harsh sounding stuff.

Anonymous said...

i can't be called "the better driscoll" when i've been sending the team on a roller coaster ride about my status as regards to florida.

The only reason i need to go to florida and play for the team, is the fact that the team logo is an ostrich. An animal i hold in high regard. And i would never pass up the opportunity to wear such a majestic animal on my chest.

Let me know of any good deals for flights. Or maybe I'll drive down with eric so we don't have to rent a car! keep in touch with me everyone, so as to keep the flame for florida, burning with in me! It's up to all you to not let the flame dwindle!!!

you have to earn the title Cronie billy!!!

you can't just throw it around casually like that!!

Frankly you are not worth of this esteemed title!!!

First of all, I agree with Mr. Bowlcut. Billy is a giant crony. 'Tis who he is.

Second, Billy has posted his intention to play in Florida. So if Billy says he will be there, Billy will be there. We have it in print.

John said...

Hey guys,

This has been stated before, but please refrain from disparaging remarks about anyone. People of different talent levels come to play in Saugus. It's one thing to critique a person's performance / ability, it's another to make insulting comments about somebody. I'm sure there is a better analogy that can be used then "smart kid in a dumb class" for example.

As for the topic, my two cents is that Nick is currently a pretty solid defensemen in Saugus. In a year or two, when he is a little more consistent and can add some skill to his game, he could be top two or three on defense. As for Griff, while maybe not labeled a "dirty" player, he has taken cheap shots before, although I think he has gotten better this year than in past years. As for the Griff / Brendon debate, Griff is usually picked within the top 5-7 picks, depending on who's playing. I do think Brendon's game showed improvement the second half of the year though.

Billy,

If you bail on the line Jared will have to play LW and RW at the same time. How's this for motivation: we'll get you a picture of an ostrich not only on the front of the jersey but the back too!

Billy, dont agree to that offer until they agree to get you a ostrich patch on both shoulders!

when are we gonna play in saugus again

i don't think griff is as good as brendan.

griff is a liability on D

brendan isn't a liability on offense

Brett,

I'm hoping within two weeks we can start practicing in Saugus (times and stuff probably affected a bit by Lawrence).

In honor of the 102nd comment of this post, I just want to say that "102 Dalmatians" was one of the worst sequels in movie history.

Anonymous said...

how dare you say that!

Your no critic . . . your jealous

in honor of comment 104 . . . here's to hoping they make two more sequels

How about Sat 8/16 or Sun 8/17 or Sat 8/23 or Sun 8/24? Anyone free for a game on those dates?

Anonymous said...

Brendon, stick to topic!

How do you feel about "102 Dalmatians"? Do you think that they crossed a line introducing a new spotless puppy, or did the performance of Gerard Depardieu more that make up for any inconsistencies?

Hey "Mr. Critic", get off Brendon's case! Just because he has no comment about "102D" doesn't mean that he doesn't like it! I'm not gonna speak for him, but it could be that he's undecided. "101D-LA" (101 Dalmatians-Live Action) didn't have Depardieu, but it did have Hugh Laurie, TV's Dr. House, as Jasper. So if Brendon needs a while to decide which is better, that's perfectly understandable!

Either the 23rd or 24th would probably work for me.

If that weekend doesn't work, we would need to start by the following weekend.

somebody obviously has seen alot of disney movies with their kids. the fact that you guys can name that many air bud movies scares me. if only you would put that kind of effort into your playing hockey. instead of talking about children's movies. besides eveyone knows the best animal movie was old yeller.
