Hockey this Sunday, Nov 9th 6:30-8 (Outside)?

UPDATE: We’re on…we have the rink from 6:00 – 8:00. We need to start playing by 6:30, so goalies should be there by 6:00, and should be warming up with teams picked by 6:15. Brendon will collect and open the rink, Jared and Brett can pick the teams.

Hi guys

Unfortunately they accidentally scheduled another group this week at 8:00 (they apologized for the mistake). The only way we’ll be able to play this Sunday is if we do 6:30 – 8:00, a half hour shorter than normal.

My meeting runs until 5:45, so we can make it right by 6:30. What we’ll need to do is have somebody (probably Brendon) be able to collect and open the rink a little earlier, and make sure the goalies are suited up, and the teams picked by 6:30.

Let me know if you’re able to make it, and I’ll try to call tomorrow and book the rink.

I'll be there.
Goalies should get there at 6 / 6:15 so we can start right at 6:30.

Short to no breaks between games.

are we ever gonna do timed games, so as to make the goalies have accurate stats?

Then it would make teams and players push even harder with 5 minutes left and down by a goal.

it can be running time.

i'd like to see a 7-1 or even a hard fought 3-2

if we are doing a timed game people would have to do quick shifts!!!

Personally I think the idea of scoring to win makes it a bit more exciting. Guys can't just sit on the lead. Also, if you get down early you're able to come back, providing you can stop the other team from scoring. I think if a game went 6-1 or 7-1 the rest of the guys are going to get bored waiting for the time to run out.

From a goalie perspective, I agree it's a little lousy (since someone is going to have a 5-spot on them), but timing the game wouldn't necessarily allow the numbers to tell much more about how well the goalie played - a goalie might very well go a whole game without really being tested, just like he might now.

Given enough games, the goalie stats usually even out. If you look at the leaders right now in GAA, that's close to how I'd rank them.

In any event, if everyone was in agreement about timing the games we could do that, I just personally don't think it'd be quite as competitive or fun.

Mike,

Were you going to meet at my house this week?

You know what else we need? More video footage. Where is Triple P when you need him?

i think one of the problems with out timed games is that everyone just goes to get 5 goals first and it make the defensive aspect of the game suffer.

Being down 4-2 with 10 minutes left gives you more hope than being down 4-2 and having to score 3 goals before they score one.

Plus it'd be easier for me to get my points per game above 3 that way too.

Running time, no stopping for balls out of play or people tripping on their own sticks.

What about penalties, would it be too much to ask everyone to police each other. or maybe 1 player from each team police the other team.

And no Jared high sticks are not a penalty in Saugus. Just play by NHL rules with no checking. Opens up more stats. PP, SH, PIM? PP%, PK%. Don't know if you guys want more work but i think it might work after a few times getting use to. major penalties like tripping, holding, Griffing.
