Incomplete Games; Counted How?

There is now a poll up for your opinion. Majority rules.

So far, as Nick described it is exactly how it is: if we have an unfinished game, it still have to count as a game if we want to count the stats from it. Otherwise, other stats like GPG, GAA, etc would all be inaccurate. And since nobody actually "won" the game, it shows up as a loss. This is how we've handled it in the past. We have a couple of options if we want to change it:

1. Any unfinished games don't count stat-wise.

2. Everyone gets a win for unfinished games.

3. Without being too technical, I can create another field behind the scenes which will indicate if it's not a complete game. This would prevent the games counting when I calculate the wins / win %, yet still allow gpg, ppg, and gaa to still be accurate. The only problem with this is that a person's "Games Played" totals will be different based on the stat you are looking at.

Either way, let me know and I can change according to what everyone wants.

the other option is games end even if the score isn't 5. so a 3-2 game means count the stats and the wins, and thats it because the game is over if we are out of time

Anonymous said...

The only problem with that is you'd need to determine beforehand what the game is going to. Else you score one goal and just say 'game over, we win!', which isn't very fair to the other team. If, for example, you base it on a time limit of ten minutes, then you'd have to stop the game after those ten minutes. The winning condition has to be predetermined for it to be considered winning.

John said...

To go along with what Dave said, we actually have had games count as W or L that didn't go up to five, but we determined what the number would be ahead of time (like 3 or whatever). If we didn't do that, we can't necessarily count it.

Mike D said...

generally we end up starting the last game with about 30 minutes left.

Why not start that game or any games that follow to five or until time runs out?
who ever is in the lead if time runs out wins.

John said...

That's what Brett suggested in the other thread...it makes sense, although if a team gets to five much quicker than expected, we could still start a new one.

In any event, I'll still come up with a way to handle the previous games that did not have a winner.

i want PR to explain his picks.

Weekly Power Rankings said...

i did. in the original post.

annonymous posted his response after having full knowledge of the point totals for each player.

i went off what i saw on the court.

let me describe why annonymous' picks aren't thought out too well.

dave didn't make the list cause the white team could have had no goalie and still have had a good chance at winning. Dark team scored 1 out of every 3 or 4 shots would be my guess. He had a few big saves but not enough. He said himslf he was bored(or something to that effect)

2 of joes goals were in the first game, i wasn't there to witness them. Thats like the Pats scoring 42 points on the Raiders, but it isn't too impressive, cause it's the Raiders

I hope Mike W was the best defense, cause if he wasn't then who was? He didn't have to try too hard to be the best. not much offense to defend = not much effect on the game

Cliff wasn't the actual "1st place" cause alot of his goals were break aways, 1 or 2 of his goals frankly should have been saved(shots from further away). I think jared worked harder for his. Although not much effort was needed to get behind the defense and score.

To Brendan:
From Brett

Dear Brendan

Maybe i was in the heat of the moment too and took it too serious, but we all knew the score at that point, so to yell game winner seems a bit much to me.

Try cheering, or yelling . . YEAH! or telling your teamate . . NICE SHOT!

Anonymous said...

so with the new rule . . . my stats would read 2 games played, 4points.

And then as another stat . . . 1 game played, 0 points.

Since we all have too much time on our hands, and we have a pretty good feel for whose playing this sunday, the Big Board would like to propose the first ever mock draft for teams this sunday for everyone to debate over.

The details i'm still trying to work out and suggesstions are welcome but i'm thinking J Riley and Jared could pick via e-mail/telephone so no feelings get hurt, and then we can post our teams. (or just hurt feelings)

This can make for more even teams. Ofcourse changes are inevitable as we get random people (Reggie) who show but we can get the core teams.

Maybe it's a terrible idea and in that case stayed tuned for an ever exciting 20 man big board!!!

Anonymous said...

only a select few should be able to give their opinion on the teams if this is to happen.

or else everyone might stack their own team.

predetermine these ones, ones with good judgement

picking teams earlier won't make any differnce.

you're better off picking them at the game and then before starting taking a quick look at them and making switches if needed to make them even if needed.

Honestly I don't think it's the top level players that are making the difference.

I'm not trying to bash anyone, but it is really the team that can't over come their weaker players that struggle.

So the real challenge is making sure the weaker players are spread across more evenly across the teams.

Mike D said...

the whole point of a blog is being able to voice your opinion.

Everyone is going to have their own and they are entitled to it.

I personally voted Jared as MVP soley because he was the one my son said "who had the white shirt with the #1 on it, he was really good"

Each person could sit here and rip apart other players views, but that isn't going to change their opinion.
You can also disagree with someone with out being disrespectful.

You don't need the stats to know who are the strongest players. You can watch one game and tell that.

Each person should pretty much be able to tell where they fall in the rankings of level of play and should know what their own strengths and weeknesses are.

i like to debate. the more cotroversial the better.

Seems as if most try to shy away from this stuff though.

Controversy isn't bad, it's peoples reactions that tend to offend. Back up your statements and be fair. If someone questions you, answer them. Don't ignore them and just keep making statements.

That's why i too look forward to the Big Board each week as well as The Power Rankings. Will they ever match up though?

Mike D said...

I'm not saying debating is bad.

It might go a little better if the subject of the debate initiated it other wise that is when people have issues.

Like if I said - I feel I was one of the strongest players on the dark team.
I'm putting myself out there and expect to hear a range of either agreement or disagreement.

It comes down to people can agree to disagree, it's not personal.

This is Brett's friend Scott. I am the one that wrote all those mean things about everyone and I disagree with everyone's opinion on this board.

Sadly, I have no life, and so I must stoop to the lowest level possible, which is making fun of people who have more talent than me, because I don't play hockey and would get by butt kicked if I ever tried. So I make fun of other people and try to get arguments going so I can laugh and watch the chaos.

My opinion matters to me too, so that is why I post all of my opinions on this site. Thanks for keeping the anonymous logins available! It makes it so easy to slam someone and then other people end up taking the blame!
It keeps me entertained while I feed my 30 cats. Thanks again!

where is the B.B.?

What time is hockey this week?

Is anybody out there?

Anonymous said...

He only has 20 cats by the way. so the jokes on you silly!!

Jared said...

A highly competitive BB this week, blah blah blah, on we go.

1. J Riley- His run of being #1 on BB will be stripped if he doesn't bring his A game sunday.

2. Scott- The return of skippy should bring some more competitive games. Also sporting a very intimidating facial scar.

3. Jared- BB and Logan may be the only two who really appreciate what he brings to the table.

4. MVW-Lived up to his first round pick last sunday.

5. Brett- waaahhh i pay tolls, waaah the teams are unfair...Expect his effort to pay dividends in at least ONE goal this week, (though BB agrees it's not about the goals).

6. Dave- Regaining his old form, however still looking for more "tim thomas" saves.

7. Cliff- would be higher if it wasn't for him bringing his rag tag team of friends including the kid who stuck his head in a toaster.

8.Brendon- Ok MAYBE the BB forgot about him last week.

9. DiMaio- DiMaio delivered the goals BB was asking for and he's repaid by slipping down the board.

10. Joe- where's that award winning knee slide been?

11. Matt- additional generic hockey compliment.

12. Lenny- You heard it here first; 3 goals 2 assist and 2 wins come sunday.

13. Nick- how will losing in fantasy football by one point affect his game sunday?

14. Reggie- Just throwing names in now to round out the list.

15. Lee- How fitting for a canadians fan to finish last on the BB. GO B'S!!!

Nick said...

Now i know he big board is! BTW, I am still devastated over that loss!

Anonymous said...

so Scott gets 2nd place even though he hasn't played in weeks? He's too random to get serious concideration from the Big Board.

Why is his scar cool and mine so hideous?

This week looks like a white out anyway. I can make it no problem with my truck.

If i show up and score, can it count?

Anonymous said...

Leader of the pack...

1. Jared - BB, Logan, & LOTP, all agree that Jerad was a force and had shown up weak after weak.

2. Scotty - Just his presence changes the whole game. His non showing up is the only reason he's not number one.

3.Mike W - Was able to keep the dark team at bay, which was good because Dave really didn't stop that many shots.

4.Joe - Even though there was no knee slide, still higher than any dark players

5. Brendon - Even though he yelled "Game winner" at the end of a blow out game, we still put him at #5 because he delivered, he didn't get hurt himself (which is unusual), and only speared one person..

6. John R / Mike D - each contribute 4 goals and were the only ones that scored

7. Brett - He gave the only real solid ball carrying.

8. Dave - really didn't stop that many shots, but stopped enough to pull out wins

9. Lee / Nick - Really didn't have any good quality help back there on D

10. Cliff - would have been #3, but bringing people who don't understand hockey automatically drops you down.

let's play saturday!!!

Hey BB for furture reference it's De Maio..

I like the rivalry we now have between Big Board (BB), Power Rankings (PR), & Leader of the Pack (LOTP)...

Sorry it took so long, but it looks like we'll cancel this week due to the weather. I was hoping Sunday's forecast would be improved, and it's only gotten worse. I also tried for Saturday this week, but everything was booked. In the unlikely event the weather is fine, we can still try to put a game together last minute.

So, we'll plan on playing next week, most likely on Saturday afternoon, depending on another commitment I might have on Sunday.

Anonymous said...

there's no open rink for saturday afternoon/night? how many people even play street hockey?

Anonymous said...

who ever is leader of the pack . . . please don't even try!!

After lee's performance last week he still makes the list(with nick) and cliff is at the bottom (should be higher)because of reasons that have already been stated before(that reason is a joke, you took it seriously i guess)

Leave the scouting to the Big Board and Power Rankings please. Stop trying to mooch of their success.

Anonymous said...

they'll have the snow cleared by saturday. Just tell everyone to drive carefully. And Sunday looks like rain or a mix they say, i just checked. it'll only be 6 inches, that's nothing

I'll come pick everyone up in my truck if need be. i can fit 6 or seven if we squeeze.

Everyone should plan on playing sunday night. And if it's going to be snowing maybe other people will be less willing to play so we could take their time slot

LET'S PLAY SOME HOCKEY PEOPLE!

Anonymous said...

I'm with Brett!

this is new england people, everyone leave a bit early (you too johnny), drive safely and let's do this!!!

how many more exclamation points do i need to put!!!!!

Have everyone confirm right now.

If we play on Sunday I'm in

Nick said...

embellish- to enhance (a statement or narrative) with fictitious additions.

Who does this apply to???

Look, Johnny I will play. The only reason I said it would be a bad idea was because some people bail when the weather isn't ideal. I will play if you have enough guys.

Nick said...

BTW, Teixeira will still end up on the Sox.

John said...

If you guys all still want to play then we can still shoot for it on Sunday. It would have to be 7-9 outside since my meeting will not end until 5:45 and if the roads are any bit slippery there's no way that I could make it by 6:30.

If that's cool with everyone I can still book the rink.

John said...

I love Brett though: doesn't want to pay a toll, but will drive all over the place to pick people up!

Anonymous said...

HA!

there would obviously be a cab fair for everyone i pick up.

$10 flat rate and then 50 cents every mile after the first 5 miles.
(generous tip for exceptional drivig)

Who needs a ride?

Weather update:

Today(friday): Snow 4-6 inches
Tomorrow(Saturday): Partly cloudy High of 23.
Suday(Hockey night): Rain/snow, High of 42.

I think we've all driven in worse conditions than just described.

Unless there is a foot of snow on the highway . . . I'll see all you ladies Sunday!

P.S. if the meetings are cancled it doesn't mean hockey has to be cancled.

Brett, Im getting 6-10 inches tonight.

Hey Anonymous - I'll write what I want, when I want, and about who I want.

If you don't like it your more than welcome to write your own view down.

Ok, LOTP is a fool.

Anonymous said...

i did write it down. I said your a joke.

And i think everyone else agrees with me.

With your first list ever, you did terrible. The players you listed and the reasons for their ranks are awful.

You only get 1 first impression, and you leeft a stinky one.
