What movie is that quote from? Any guesses?
Nick's Ramble of the week
*This week I was scheduled to do the "Recap". As you can see it never came out. I'm not sure if had more to do with Johnny never getting me the information I needed or the recent results in the poll(s).
*Brett Said:
I think we all know the players that won't listen to the calls. The players that are unwilling to humbles themselves. Stubborn, unreasonable. The players that can't see the greater good. The ones that only see the bad in change and never the good.
Brett, I don't want to pick on you (here it comes!) BUT, are you kidding me? A ref? Guys come on! This is PICKUP HOCKEY! If we were to play softball in the summer do we have an umpire to call safe or out? Or call the strike zone? We are playing hockey, contact happens. People will get hurt. But, until we see players slamming others into the boards, for no reason, or hacking at others to intentionally hurt them (which isn't and shouldn't be happening) then you need to relax with your rants. Refs are NOT needed!
Cross Check-to obstruct in ice hockey or lacrosse by thrusting one's stick held in both hands across an opponent's face or body
Thrusting- to push or drive with force : shove
So, let me ask: Has anyone taken there stick, held with both hands, and drove (with great force) into to your face or body? Listen guys, I do not doubt contact by people, and the contact may have been more excessive then called for, granted. But, when 5 big guys are clustered in one area hacking for the ball, rough contact will happen. It's the way the game is. We are all brothers and we need to be aware of how aggressive we play, but to exaggerate the situation and call for refs is beyond ridiculous.
Feel free to debate.
and the mome raths outgrabe...

BTW, I am holding a grudge for the recent poll results.
Brett, remember when the Canadiens won the cup? You were only seven! Ha Ha Ha Ha!
You can talk about Montreal winning games in the playoffs, but they haven't won 16 in a long time.
Bruins!
I do feel having a ref for our games is stupid, but if everyone wants one then that is what we'll have.
"there's rubbing in racing"
well there is bumping in hockey.
Honestly if you have a problem with someone, call them on it, to their face. I'm not saying yell and scream at them. You can tell someone that you didn't appreciate something that was done with out starting a blowout... If someone asks you to back off, then back off, but don't think that means you're going to be allowed to prance right in.. also if you don't like having contact then stay out of in front of the net..
The front of the net is like the middle of field in flag football.. no matter what you do there is going to be contact..
If you hack or trip someone OWN it..
Seriously we are all freinds and more importantly brothers.
Does stuff happen or things get said that shouldn't - yes.
Do I think some people are more sensative than others over things - yes, do they have a right to be? possibly - I don't know.
There isn't a person that plays that hasn't been hacked, bumped, tripped, or slashed, but there isn't a person that plays that hasn't accidentally done those things as well. I know I do. I don't mean it.
I mean seriously we are not pro players and play once maybe twice a week.
We should all stand in a circle, call each other out on stuff, yell at each other for like 10 minutes, get it all out, and just play...
I know I'm not there anymore so it doesn't really matter to me, but I'll give my two cents' worth.
From a goalie's perspective, playing the penalty kill is an interesting challenge. It's hard, especially when the other team passes well, but it's a fun challenge. From a tournament perspective, it's good to get power play and penalty kill experience. Players should know their position for each.
From a realistic perspective, it seems the truth is somewhere in the middle. Everybody gets roughed, everybody gets hacked. Sometimes it's intentional. Sometimes it interferes with an important play, other times not. In one of the goals I gave up this past week I was knocked to the ground by someone on the other team. It sucks for the to happen, but at the end of the day it doesn't happen often. I don't think it would hurt to have a referee every now and then for faceoffs and the power play experience, but I also don't think the 'penalties' that are committed interfere with the game or a team's momentum all that much. In fact, I think the opposite is true--we argue for 5 minutes over offsides calls, you think people would respect the call of a ref and not argue about it?
So for giving the game an added dimension, a referee isn't a terrible idea, but it's highly unlikely that peoples' play will change a whole lot.
do you remember when the Bruins won the cup?
Most of us weren't even alive!!!
don't make an insult when it can be turned around and made worse on you.
When was it '73?
Bruins 5 cups to Montreals 24.
The teams don't even compare. Montreal rules.
It's like the Red Sox and Yankees.
If Bruins are to make a statement in the playoffs, they'll have to go through Montreal to make it legit
i'll be there this sunday but still don't think i'll play. I'd rather play every other week and be healthy for the tournament
you are correct Brendon. Though, the line at the bottom was another clue. As you can tell i loved that Movie and the book.
Brendon, all i know is, if i get brutally cross checked or tripped like you say you were, i know who did it. So clearly either name a name and let them defend themselves or stop complaining.
Also i'm starting a petition for those who would like to join the white team with me sunday and totally disregard any call made by a referee!
so are you gonna commit penalties just to commit them cause you know you can't be forced to sit?
Nick, I agree 100%. I couldnt have said it better myself.
For us non-tournament guys, a ref is a little over the top. If you're truly fouled, call it. That's it. Come on guys, let's not take the fun out of it.
Stuff like this is what caused the last group of street hockey guys to stop playing...
Lenny - you just don't want to end up in the box all night for your flagrant cross-checks!!
In seriousness though, having a ref for our pickup games will not help us in tournaments. Structured play, coaching, and practice will, but that's a different topic. As Dave said working on power plays is a good thing, but with the varied group we get on a Sunday night I don't think that's the time to work on it - again, that's what practice is for.
If I'm alone in feeling this way, then that's fine, but as Lenny said a lot of the guys just want to go down and play for fun - they're never thinking about a tournament. I also see way too much potential for arguements breaking out.
I also for the most part think that the play is pretty clean. The only player at all that is known for being chippy let's face it is Griff (which is why his name has become a verb). He's also been spoken to, so it won't continue to be a problem.
Brendon, I'd be very careful to accuse anyone of cross-checking: that's a deliberate attempt by somebody to hurt you using their stick. At that point you are assigning motives to somebody, and I don't think anyone we play with would do something deliberately like that. Will there be contact between people sometimes? Of course, that's the nature of most sports. That doesn't mean somebody deliberately went after you though, which is what was posted.
All of that being said, if anyone feels that someone's play is over the line, let me know and I'll talk to them. If it were to continue that person would not be asked back to play.
Finally, if we do want to implement some type of penalty system, if somebody blatantly get's tripped or taken down, what we've done in the past is given them a penalty shot. IF people want to do that we can have it, but I would just vote we leave things as they are.
stop posting john and just get those stats up and going
I'm going to cross check brett if he referees.
nice, Jared. Real nice.
that's a double minor with intent to injure
"For us non-tournament guys, a ref is a WAY over the top."-Lenny
Fixed :)
lol Nick - didn't want to be too emphatic about my disapproval... :)
And I too will cross check any ref!
Compelling week on the BB, is there a new #1, who made the dreaded "three down", and will this post surpass Brendon's in length?
1. Griff- Would go to Dave, but he's gone, and everyone else has been playing terrible, so here's to Griff in this backhanded compliment.
2. Brett- Added another skill to his resume; the ability to draft well. Did i use the semi-colon properly?
3. Jared- extremely undeserving of the top spot last week.
4. J Riley- Injuries Sminjuries, white team expected better from Riley.
5. Nick- Just kidding Nick, this spot goes to Cliff who survived an off with because others played poorly.
6. Mike D- Played solid again last week, very similar to Griff's style of play.
7. MVW- An incredible display of terrible hockey and with good hustle.
8. Steve- It wasn't a one man show with Dave in net, steve held his own and now takes over as top goalie in saugus.
9. Joe- Remember Happy Gilmore's slapshot in Hockey?
10. Nick- Alright here you go nick, top 10. Thanks for coming last week.
11. Brendon- A "Brendon hatrick"- 2 goals and 1 injury. I know i know you got like 5 goals last week.
12. Chris- i think he played good last week.
13. Lenny- He plays well when he's not tired. BB loves backhanded compliments!
14. Darren- Probably will disrepect the board and not show up this week.
15. Reggie- Skipping hockey? Your lucky i don't boot you right off the BB.
THREE UP
Griff- he does a lot of "griffing". hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Nick- you showed up last week and thats half the battle.
Steve- #1 goalie, where will he go?
THREE DOWN
Jared- needs to draft and play better.
MVW- awful
Dave- No love lost here, BB moves on!
BB, first you get me excited for number 5 than you start using some of my jokes? I want number one next week!
Though the "Brendon Hatrick" was hilarious!
"Bruins 5 cups to Montreals 24.
The teams don't even compare. Montreal rules.
It's like the Red Sox and Yankees."
So, Brett, you're a Yankees fan now? Wow.
Special Treat!!!
The only player in Saugus to average 1 assist per game or more in his entire career is . . . .(drum roll)
Brett with 57 Assists in 48 Games (1.18A/Game)
Next closest is . . . blast from the past Eric Fiore with 15A in 18Games (0.83A/game). Guess he's no ball hog
I hate to correct the "stat guru", if that's even what we should call him anymore, but i do believe there is another player who averaged over 1 assist per game in his career.
In fact, this player has a 1.33 assist per game average, making him better than your beloved Brett.
This player is none other than the Saugus legend Ron Hanson!
Makes me wonder what other mistakes the guru has made.
10 game minimum required.
stat was taken off the career stat page.
Brendon i know your concerned with penalties but all i know is no one else has ever BROKEN someones arm in a tournament.
yay for you, your the best.
"yay for you, your the best."
I know who it is, anyone else?
he told you!
