Recap

It was, at times, smelly.(No, not like garlic anymore, but second hand smoke) It was, at times, fast paced. Sometimes, it was even confusing. But, for most of the time, we were frustrated.(At the way you played, of course) So, was it a surprise when the last game came down to running out of time?

* Lasting about 50 minutes, game one was the game of the night. But aren't all 5-4 games great? "To be honest, the white team shouldn't have been in this game", said one observer. "The reason they won was because of the sensational play in net by Steve." No doubt that Steve played a great game, but it certainly helps when Mike D hits the post four times in one night. Is that eight times in the last two weeks, Mike? Ping!

*Maybe if De Maio got the ball to hit the net instead of the post, Game two wouldn't have been such a blow out. "The defense was spectacular in game two for the white team" , said one scout. "The shifts of Matt with Lenny and Nick with Mike Ward were both dominant!" The offense for the White Team was almost as impressive. Griff's grittiness coupled with the dynamic speed of Petzold and Jared proved to be too much for John and Brett. Did anyone see the game Brad played? Surprisingly, it was a respectable effort(got to love backhanded compliments!) I think it was the winter hat he was wearing.

* Sometimes, all great things must come to an end. Unfortunately, game three ended with a 3-3 tie. With just two minutes left in the game, the white team became desperate to finish this game off. Leading 3-2, team captain Jared pulled out his goalie to try and get two quick goals. It, of course failed miserably. OUCH! How is your back John? Early in game three Riley left with an apparent back injury. He is listed as questionable on Friday.

Nick's ramblings: Brett and Jared: Did I finally make the top 5? "Leader of the Pack" needs to disappear from this site. Is it baseball season yet? Stat Guru, I want a interesting stat this week. I nominate De Maio to be the topic of the week again in the comments. By the way, last week's theme was 'battles'. Can anyone guess the theme of this week?

Petzold get the ball! Petzold, get the ball! Petz! Petzold get THE BALL! PETZOLD!!!!

The poor kid almost threw up!

Leader of the Pack…..

1)Steve - Had a ruff start (got behind 4-1), but rebounded and turned into the impenetrable wall!! He made huge saves on Brett, John, Reggie, and Mike.

2)Jared – Never looked rattled even though his team was behind in the first game. He out hustled and out shot everyone.

3)Matt / Griff / Mike W / Nick – Their defense stifled and aggravated the dark team all night long.

4)Mike P – I’m just going to call him Road Runner. This kid had some wheels and a burst of speed that I think is unmatched. His speed and hustle produced a 2 goal night for him.

5)Bradley – He put a hit / bump on Brendon that knocked him clean off his feet.

new nick names….
1)Mike (?) – Road Runner
2)Griff – Hatchet (because he wields that stick like a hatchet, cutting down anything in reach)
3)Mike D – Iron Man (only thing he seems to be able to do is ping the iron / post)

Kryptonite

5 Yay for Nick - With a night where the top scorer had five points, you should expect a defensemen to make the list this week. And nick just barely made it. While most weeks he slides, pinches in to much, and is underestimates his opponent, he pulled a George Costanza and did the opposite of all his instincts. It worked and frustrated Brett especially.

4 Mike P - Was it Mike’s blazing speed, or Lee’s slowness? Or both? Mike lured the D to pinch in and capitalized on their poor decisions by streaking up the wing numerous times and tickling the twine.

3 Ariel? While she is a solid candidate, the 3 spot goes to Ryan G - When him and JR were going at it, I thought to myself, who will this tussle give the spark to . . . . . . . Griff. You love to have him on your team and you hate to play against him. He’s played that way forever (actually he use to be worse). Look out JR and Brett, we might have a new dynamic duo. Griff and Jared smell blood in the water.

2 Steve - It was nice to see Steve back to early season form (if some of you forgot, he was unsolvable early on). After last weeks sub par performance, Steve knew what he had to do and did it against the 2 top scoring leaders. What worked last week, had no effect this week not even those half court shots. Let’s start stringing these type of week together Steve, consistency is the challenge now.

1 The other Bash Brother . . . J Rod Meadows - Despite nonstop (and I mean nonstop) complain every week about his team and how the draft went, Jared manages to keep his chin up, and somehow lead his team to victory. Setting up both game winners. What a clutch player.

I’ve never seen the scoring spread out so much in a night of hockey. Tough week to pick only five. And PLEASE stop whining if you think of yourself as playing great and you didn’t make the list. There’s always next week.

Honorable Mention: Bradley, best week you've had this season

Hope you feel better JR.

Lenny was the other 'D' player for us, not griff

I thought it was appropriate to be a Seinfeld reference in the power rankings for me.

and i love how leader of the pack goes and posts before the Power Rankings and the Big Board post so he can get his ideas out there first.

Steve didn't get behind 4-1, his whole team did. if you think he gave up soft goals then say that.

I hope you feel better also Reggie.

how did everyone like taking it at the top of zone after the goalie tied it up?

I don't think it stopped the flow of the game at all.

The dark team got all injured....

John - back & wrist
Dave - ankle (I think)
what happen to Reggie?

good games though

"Best Defensive Forward"

Most off the top of their head would say Johnny, Brett, or Jared(if they were high)

But the stat sheet would lead you to believe otherwise.

Top 3 goal differential:

Mike W - +37, but he's mostly D
Brett - +37, but she's a former D

BRENDAN - +36!!! Should never play D, yet has the 3rd highest differential. Can anyone complain anymore that he doesn't back check?

And Johnny has a measly +5 for those who rave about how he always gets back

what happened to Zednik?

Another Cool stat by the Stat Guru. But will he admit his point differential??? Probably not!

zednik was hurt

"how did everyone like taking it at the top of zone after the goalie tied it up?"

Somebody had the thought that if the goalie ties it up in the crease, then it goes to the defensive team. Outside that area, it goes to the offense.

Kind of makes sense since in-crease tie-ups are usually a necessity for the goalie.

Thanks for the nomination Nick, but I'm glad to see nomination wasn't followed through (yet)...

Leader of the pack, why don't you do me a favor and stand in front of the net while I shoot and see if the only thing I PING is the post... ;-)

I say we play by what ever rules keep the games flowing, at a quick pace, competitive, & fair.

It would be impossible to play by tourney rules with out having a Ref.

face-offs after tie ups make the most sense

tough one to rate this week, little separation amongst the top players.

ON WE GO!!!

1) Jared- With no one wanting to take hold of the first spot we'll give it to Jared who has a very week grasp on it.

2) J Riley- Black team is very secretive about his potentially devastating injury. It's currently listed as an "upper body" injury.

3) Griff- Whether playing offense, defense, both, or neither he exhibits bursts of rage against the opposing teams best players. Brett and Riley got a taste of what frustrated Jared and Derek last week.

4) Brett- Still played great despite the usual poor play in front of ariel. Turning a new leaf?

5) MVW- GAMEWINNNAAAAASSSS! His chaotic and sometimes embarrassing play has skyrocketed him to the top five.

6) Cliff- Another week of smooth plays topped off by his ability to stay for the whole night.

7) Mike D- BB loves the chances and positioning out there.

8) Dave R- Played some solid D for 1.5+ games, not sure if he got benched after that because BB did not see much of him therafter.

9) Mike P- BB makes players earn there spot on this board, otherwise he'd be higher with his rediculous speed displayed last sunday.

10) Steve- Great goaltending, challenging MVW for most improved player of 08-09. Do i smell a poll question Nick?

11) Nick- SPEAKING OF WHICH!!! Nick was a defensive juggernaut. Did I spell juggernaut right? Who cares! CAPS LOCK!!!

12) Joe- BB apologizes to Joe for being overlooked. But with continued solid two way play and the knee slide and temper kept in check, look for him to rise the ranks.

13) Reggie- so-so week for reggie. he's still trying to find that once deadly accurate shot back.

14) Brendon- Brendon's already said enough about his play.

15) Lenny- This has become a tough board to make. Lenny played some very good hockey sunday, and was the last spot on the BB.

THREE UP

Griff- Will he challenge Brett for the #1 overall pick?

Mike P- Did you know it's Petzold and not Petzal? BB did not.

Cliff- This also refers to his brother who came and played good also.

THREE DOWN

Reggie- Don't be mad reggie, you'll be back up.

Dave- Just play goalie, don't let Johnny score, and you'll be #1 again.

Skippy fin fin- He's says he'll be abscent for one more week and then he'll be back. BB will no longer wait.

i actually think it is Petzoldt

drop the t - the correct spelling is petzold.
