The words "slippery when wet" can have so many different meanings. It's the signs we ignore as we walk into a public bathroom. It was the title of one the most successful albums of all time. The "slipperiness" factor led to a night of pain, uncertainty, and terrible play transition...Not that we transition the ball well when the conditions are just right.
*What is that old saying?: You don't know what you got till it's gone. In the dark team's 5-3 Victory, The "Newbies" managed to pass up the middle numerous times, usually to no avail. "Everyone knows Nick is going up the boards, but it's the best way to do things.", said one scout. Big Board and Power Rankings, are you paying attention? Despite Game 1 starting with two quick goals by Brendon and Jared the white team managed to keep the game close. Ricardo and Mike also played solid, physical games as Riley's wingers.
*I'm not going to beat around the bush, they were dropping like flies. Some of us bit off more than we could chew. For those of you not at hockey, don't get bent out of shape, everyone is fine. Not to add insult to injury but, the bottom line was, some us looked really funny out there. "I have never seen the floor so slippery", said one player. "It was [almost] impossible to get proper footing" The floor conditions certainly had effect on every game. Game 2 consisted of another 5-3 loss for Johnny's white team. And the frustration continued to mount for John.
*Game three was the game of the night. "It had everything you wanted in game. It had surprises, disappointments, great plays and questionable decisions", said one scout. Because of the white team's 0-4 week, the play of the 'iron man' Mike De Maio will be over looked by many. Mike did a solid job on defense, especially against the guy at the point, and did a great job at getting opened. He had Jimmy and Brian running around in circles all night. As usual Ward ran around in circles aimlessly, and yet was still very effective.
*The frustration boiled over. Johnny, I absolutely loved that you wanted to get the game going. I loved it! But would you have started playing before everyone was ready (to get a quick cheap goal) if your team had won the first 3 games and you had just scored a goal? Yeah, that's what I thought. The fourth and final game of the night was over quickly, resulting in a 5-1 win for the dark team. "Jack was solid, but Steve was again fantastic last night" said one player. "He took a hit in the boyz and had to deal with sketchy defense at times. He belongs high on the power rankings."
Nick's Ramblings:
So Lenny, which elbow is worse? Lewis take a page out of Ward's book and use your speed as an advantage. What is the proper way to haze a rookie? Matt Davis, how many sticks did you break? By the way, I still love the shin pads. How many idioms were in this post? Reggie we miss you. Griff was supposed to be on the dark team. How ugly would these games have been if he showed like he said? Jared and Brett, never complain about me going up the boards ever again...BB and PR I want to be high this week. Can you guys tell im running out of material for these recaps? Everyone loves the professor more anyway.
What is the quote from?:
Oh, the shame of the polar bear who fears the water. No wonder we are shunned by our fellow bear. Woe is us! [Pause] It's what he said. Kind of pathetic, really.

Risk and Reward
5 Should it be Mike D. or should it be Dale? - On one hand Dale gave the white team a puck moving defensemen with a big shot, something the dark team sorely needed, while Mike provided the grit and some offense and was clearly the better Mike this week. I’m gonna give it to Mike D for being there for all 4 games. Dale, you slip into the honorable mention this week.
4 Brendon - He just didn’t slide far enough in the draft for JR as Jared snatched him up earlier than expected. It paid off. Brendon played opposite wing of Jared and helped form one of the most dominant lines in recent memory. Maybe Jared learned his lesson and will pick Brendon higher . . . . Nah, who am I kidding.
3 Steve - Never again will the goalies be a “wash”. Steve has now consistently played great for 3 weeks plus.. He even stopped JR’s stick with his thigh. Not only that, but he was focused and was able to make many stops on the second and third chances that the white team had. Considering the D in front of him, some might question why he’s not #1. But there were two others who out shined everyone.
2 Brett - It was like the Lindros deal in the early 90s. Jared took a MIGHTY risk giving up essentially the next 3 picks(cause Griff didn’t show) to land Brett on his team. Brett was still able to play his shifty playing style despite the slippery surface and took advantage of having some snipers on his team namely Brendan, Jared and Dale. He was also able to anchor the defense for a bit after a stunning display of terribleness from the other 4 D. Not to mention he contained JR all night. So is he the other center we've been looking for?
1 Jared - He was trying to etch his name in the Saugus history books this week and succeeded by scoring 10 goals(if not more) in 1 week. You could see it in his eyes that he enjoyed working with Brett for the first time since Florida. It must be nice to win 4 in one night after suffering multiple loses in most weeks. But don’t expect Jared to stop there. He’ll be moving on to bigger and better records come next week. Maybe . . . . surpassing his own line mate(Brett) in points(or scoring, same thing) to claim the second spot. Don’t even try for JR, he’s way further ahead. Don’t miss the one timer next time.
Honorable Mention: Dale, as promised.
Nick, your inability to pinch in and actually keep the ball in with you kept you off the rankings this week. The best one was the big swing and miss as you came flying in. But you’re right about the “up the Boards” method.
It's all about the draft now. Maybe Riley should focus in a bit more on his picks!
Perhaps we can work out a trade or two this week johnny? Or better yet, make Brett a captain.
Yay for going to the beanpot and having it be sold out.
Boy, talk about a dark team bias! You guys thought you were so great when we had like 4 new guys playing D. Our D was pathetic and anyone would look like Gretzky out there against them. They did get better as the games went on, but overall, not very good.
This goes for you too, Nick! White team deserved some props for keeping the games competitive despite having half our offensive zone be a slip 'n slide!
Some person, we'll call him "Dale" to protect his true identity, doesn't like to pass. Dale likes to shoot. Dale likes to shoot backhanded. Dale doesn't like to pass. Dale doesn't pass, but got several assists Sunday night, and was on the winning team for all 4 games. As it turns out, you don't actually need to pass to win, or even to get many assists. Hmmm. I think I'll still pass occasionally. It seems to make my teammates happy. And I enjoy it, too.
Some people like to run up the floor and shoot with no defenders after a goal has been scored and before everyone is ready to play again. I don't. I like the challenge.
I overheard someone referring to Brendon as "the day-old muffin" of the draft picks. I don't know what that means exactly, but it sounds delicious. I guess if I had to pick between him and a muffin, I'd pick him....nah - the muffin.
Jared was his usual lazy self on Sunday. He's very lazy. So lazy...I'll take lazy Jared over hard-working (insert your favorite player here) 5 out of 10 times.
What does that mean? Probably nothing. I'll take Jared.
When I was a kid my favorite relative was Uncle Caveman. After school we'd all go play in his cave, and every once in a while he would eat one of us. It wasn't until later that I found out that Uncle Caveman was a bear.
Bradley had the best play of the night. He whiffed on a pass, slipped and fell straight onto his back. The defender got by and took a shot on net. I like Bradley.
In retrospect, the white team probably should have selected a defense in the draft at some point. Poor Jack. Poor rusty, aching Jack. Didn't do him any favors. Let's move him to the center position and see what happens. We can put Mr. Potato Heads in on defense and a life-size poster of Martin Brodeur in net. They'll give up more goals, but at least you won't be able to blame them when the white team loses - I mean, hey, they can't possibly play below their potential, right? Check that - put the Potato Heads in at the wings. Yeah, that looks better.
Lenny got hurt on a play Sunday. That was surprising.
Brett likes to puke. Brett likes to score. Brett likes to assist. Brett is an offensive up-chucking machine. Brett didn't puke on Sunday. Yay for Brett. I like Brett.
Nick kept his mouth shut for most of the game Sunday and played good defense. I like Nick. I also like Charleston Chew.
Mark couldn't hang on to the puck or make a safe pass to save his life. But he's a nice guy so it doesn't matter. Same goes for 4 or 5 more people. Except for one of them.
Matt J said that only two goals were scored against his team while he was on the ice. His plus/minus is through the roof. That's usually the sign of a defensive master. What is it in this case, though?
Steve had the reflexes of a cat in net, but had one of his "lives" hacked off by an over-zealous offensiveman, leaving him with just eight left. I hope Steve survives the season. I think Steve should wear a full suit of armor and wield a mace. Also, he should be able to breathe fire and fly like a dragon. I mean, hey - if someone goes for your crown jewels, you have the right to go medieval on them, right?
Sorry if I missed anyone. I'll get you later. When you least expect it. Or whenever works for you, I don't care.
we had 3 new guys on defense with nick being our veteran. You had Matt S. who has played D before.
So both teams were even when it came to experience on D.
Still both teams stunk on defense, we were just able to capitalize quicker than the white team was.
And as for the ice thing, people were falling and slipping everywhere not just in our zone. Most of the falls happened at center ice, not on the boards where the ice was. The whole court was slippery.
And tell me, how many goals were you gonna score from the top right point where the ice was? You guys could barely score on Steve from point blank range, he played awesome.
And i must say Jared and I took line changes regularly. We didn't stay out for whole games at a time. I say this to the people who say we abused the new players on defense.
It was painful to watch our team try to function(you probably heard me yelling ALOT, maybe too much) while both Jared and I were on the bench with either Brendon or Dale out there by themselves.
And i don't care what anyone says, when Dale has the shot I'd rather him take it. He has a very good shot. I'm happy with the assist and the winssss
i'll never be a captain so stop asking
Quick points...
Overall depth played a large role this past week. We should have balanced out the guys who hadn't played much a little bit more between the teams.
Also, the floor did come into play. The slippery zone was in our offensive end - which meant when our guys carried into the zone we weren't able to move laterally get around the dark team's defense. The dark team's offensive zone was not really slippery at all.
I thought Steve played very well, but I thought my father played great in net - especially considering it was only his second game in about a year and a half. The dark team ended up getting a LOT of breaks...there must have been at least 5 goals that were deflected or went straight into the air (Brett) and landed in the net. Usually the breaks even out - they just didn't last Sunday.
Since this has been referenced: let's discuss the play that I carried the puck out and shot on Steve when the dark team wasn't ready for it. The couple of goals before that which the dark team scored there was too much time taken between goals. Each time we had to wait longer than normal. On this particular play I gave it time, and then yelled out to the dark team that we were about to take it out. Nobody seemed to care. There was more than enough time for a line change and for people to get in position when I finally carried the ball out.
Overall, good game by the dark team; congrats on the wins.
dude, chill. I think everyone got ragged on by Mr. Handey this week, not just your one-on-none breakaway. Hilarious stuff from Mr. Handey though! Keep it up!
Yeah, wasn't actually referring to the "deep thoughts" post which was pretty good...simply responding to comments during the game and by Nick in his writeup.
Not irritated at all, no need to "chill", simply explaining the play since we didn't discuss it.
the ice didn't stop mike w from rushing up that side. every time he went by I yelled he would fall and he never did.
Why not just go up the other side. it wasn't like we stacked the non icy side with defensemen. How many times did nick have to give you odd man rushes?
John, I don't think it was depth this week, seeing as only 39.12313124275600985734686538268563575(this is a joke not an actual calculation) percent of the players were regulars.(you, Nick, Jared, Lenny, Brendon, me, Mike D & W, Dale?, Matt S?)you had 5 to our 5. it was equal on depth. I think you should have had Steve, even though your dad did play good no question about it(it was nice to have goalies who were closer in talent than most weeks). But when Jared gets 10 goals, you have to admit the talented star players took advantage this week
You made us take Dale when he came late. but that paid off for us too.
Brett likes to puke.
lol
I also like Charleston Chew.
rofl!
Brett is an offensive up-chucking machine.
Is that offensive as in he is good at offense in the game, or that he is offensive in his up-chucking abilities?
Lenny, if you write a 627 word recap for next week I will let you be biased too.
That is the exact number of words too.
Stats are up guys.
Honorable Mention? BB better not let me down!
"Nick kept his mouth shut for most of the game Sunday and played good defense"
Mouth shut? i thought i was pretty abnoxcious.
BTW, Handley I enjoyed your 623 word post...it didnt quite beat the number of words in my recap though
Sorry Ricardo :)
"Some of us bit off more than we could chew."-Recap
Is that where the charleston chew idea came from Handley?
Brett, you're missing the point. You could run straight on that side, but you couldn't cut at all. The way your defense played was to be right over the center line, and then would typically be sliding to try to break up the play. The only way to beat them was to go around them laterally which couldn't be done because of the floor. Even the middle of the rink was slippery until you got above the circles. This made your D even more effective.
The depth thing we can talk about later, but you're right about Dale - he would have helped us.
Those factors, plus Steve, plus getting some luck, helped you guys. That being said, you still outplayed us and deserved to win, but to minimize those factors isn't an accurate reflection of what happened.
would you not agree that it effected our transition game? what little we had.
That was jareds hot spot, he couldn't get the speed he wanted to be even more effective. I know i shouldn't be complaining about ten goals from him.
Which of our defensemen couldn't you just run around? flick it off the boards to yourself as you go around him. And please don't say nick, he wasn't there to have to get around.
the ice was on the boards on one side at the red line. Like i said before, no one was gonna make a play there. Not Mike W anyway
keep in mind Johnny that i like to argue.
i didn't realize you had so many points when i checked the stats before we left(i want a re-count). Enough points to make the rankings, but obviously not enough wins for the WPR's liking
How does the whole clutch goal thing work again?
i did have the best goal of the night.
20 feet in the air, straight into the net.
so if next week we had the same exact players there, what would the top pick be worth?
No worries, I don't mind debating this one.
Actually, Nick played fantastic on Sunday from a defensive standpoint. I don't know about pinching in or whatever, but he played very well defensively against us. Even Jimmy played pretty well (didn't have nearly as many turnovers as last time). What helped them was that we could not go around them when they were sliding around.
As for Jared, he was able to build up speed once over the line into our zone.
Regarding the rankings, I wouldn't have minded sacrificing some points for a win!
As for clutch, there's two stats I've put on the site. One is actual scoring the gamewinner, one is winning the game. However, I've defined the clutch "situation" as both teams tied with the next goal being the game-winner.
who would be the leading scorer if Brett Jared and Johnny all sat out for one night?
BB, where are you?
everyone knows the board is wednesday night
balto/phil collins
Hey Brett,
3.14159265358979...is great with ice cream
2 is enough. Brett and john never sub anyway.
I say we throw Mike D at center. He keeps his mouth shut, has a pretty good shot, it was already stated he had good hockey sense, he's a pretty good defensemen, his abiltiy to carry the puck has improved..
Put him with a strong puck handling winger I think he'd be good.
He has abilty to get open with out the puck and is one of the harder guys to push out of the front of the net.
Mike would you play center?
"stated he had good hockey sense"
so he doesnt have hockey sense anymore?
splitting hairs?
No I believe that is the correct grammar. The phrase "it was already stated" implies past tense, so the verb "had" should agree with it in tense. It is not saying that Mike no longer possesses hockey sense, but rather the fact that it was stated that at one point in time he was described as having hockey sense. Thus, "had" is used correctly.
The question remains:
Mike would you feel comfortable playing center? If not, would you do it anyway?
you havent seen Balto? WOW!
I look at Mike D this way. He always used to play D and played it very well. He got a few goals here and there. This year he has been a winger steadily and is the top 5 or 6 in goals. You put him in a position and he does what he need to do.
I have no problem with him playing center.
as regards mike's shot, he needs to have a quicker release.
he needs to start using his arms more and not his whole body.
if any position is in dire need of help it's defense. I say put him back on D. Center is over rated. Center is a mind set, knowing you need to get back. The only player who can't play center is Jared and Brendon cause they don't want to play it. They don't want to have to get back, they want someone else to do it for them.
it's so fun critiquing Mike Dah-may-oh.
nick, don't give up on your recapping ability. I have faith in you
ok, this is the longest thread I have ever had to scroll though.
I'll play center if the team I'm on wants me to. I've played it a few times.
re using my arms more - it's funny you say that because I was just telling John Sunday that because of the fact that I have a torn cuff and Labrum in my left shoulder I have to rotate & follow through with my body to make up for the fact that I physically can't with my shoulder.
always nice to log on and see I'm being critqued.
Welcome to the Big Board. If last Sunday taught us anything, it's that there's a lot of room for improvement from everyone at Saugus hockey, except steve.
On we go!
1. Steve- Quite possibly the greatest american born goaltender of our generation.
2. Jared- 10 goals is 10 goals, and that is a fact
3. Brett- Has answered all challenges this year, but the question remains if he can anchor a team without riley or jared.
4. Riley- Passing too much blame on his team, the board feels his team was simply mismanaged. Perhaps a set defense of Lenny, MVW, Mike D, and maybe mattyd could've grinded out a win.
5. Mike D- Certainly a pain to play against for wingers, and his offense is hitting it's stride again.
6. MVW- Still a couple of kinks to work out in his game before he becomes a top scorer.
7. Nick- The BB rewards solid defensive play. wet floor, shmet shmore, Nick stomped around the floor without any regard to life or limb.
8. Brendon- The biggest mover on the board gelled nicely with Brett and Jared. Can he handle the pressure of being drafted high come sunday?
9. Lenny- I don't know if i believe his injuries because he's always smiling when hurt.
10. Matt- Not Davis, the other one that Riley always drafts way too high.
11. Dale- Apparantly 8pm on Sunday is much too early for him but still has been playing well recently.
12. Borges- Just kidding, he's wordly, but how about Jack? He played very well in net facing a likely 2-1 shot ratio over steve.
13. Joe- Should be back sunday, and is renound for playing well on that tough slippery floor in Saugus.
14. Mark- didn't play great last week, but a lot of people played horrendous so he wins.
15. BRADMEISTER!- That's right, in a shocking BB first, Bradley storms on the scene due to some very sound play sunday. His solid game accompanied by low turnovers did not go overlooked by dark team.
i wont be giving up. But when you do a recap that averages around 600words every week it is tough to not sound redundant.
Brendon, Balto was a great movie. You must have been deprived as a kid.
Im better than Mike Ward!
Maybe Mr. anonymous but probably not Griff whom i unfortunately forgot. But that's what he get's for being drafted 3rd and not showing.
However i'll throw him somewhere around 7th for this week. He simply cannot be trusted to show.
BB, 7? What do I have to do??
BB is right about one thing, JR mismanaged his team. A solid D core could have won him a game or two. It was your only hope with so few legit offensive weapons available to pick from
Jack Handey Remembers When....
This section is dedicated to the past, but not forgotten members of our Sunday Night Games.
Maybe they've played once or twice in the past one or two years.
Maybe even not at all in recent memory - for whatever reason.
We still remember though. Let's take a trip back in time...
Taylor A - small, wiley and fast; heal up and come back
Ron L - great shot, experience, overall 2 out of 10....in the bizarro world.
Ronnie Jr - courage of a lion...come back when you're ready to play without your dad...he might be a while...
Ariel D - tough defender; the only girl we've played with?
Skippy Fin Fin - the animal. nuff said.
Mark S - uhh, his name is Mark S. And he's Reggie's brother.
Dan-O - the man-O; had a good shot and good hockey sense.
Luke C - a defender of the rebel alliance
Lee S - the emperor of the empire...ok, so I couldn't think of anything for Lee
JB - smells like garlic
Eric F - the roadrunner
Joe N - Wile E Coyote
Mike K - the wise old mountain ape.....ok, you think of something.
Jimmy N - perfers ice hockey
Danny N - you moved back home, so where you been?
Reburto B - how did he end up ahead of JR in GA? Oh yeah, he only played 12 games.
Steve L - You's think he'd come back now that there's 3 Canadien fans (Brett, Lee)
Bob C - Getting too old for this game, bobby?
Derek C - how did he end up ahead of almost everyone in GF? Oh yeah, he only played 18 games.
Derek D - maybe the best player we have ever played with (and that's a big compliment)
Chris Y - don't grow into an old man on me Chris!
Darren D - always gave 110%, even when brett injures him in a game
Warren - you don't forget a guy like warren. He was....he was...uhhhh....
Ross P - Ross - now THERE'S a guy you don't forget. ...uhhhh......yeah....nuff said.
Billy D - He shows up when he's not having major reconstructive surgery or radical limb replacement operations.
Tony A - "I could have been a contender..."
Dave R - Living out west is his excuse...pfffff...Plane tickets aren't THAT expensive.
Doug N - Maybe his odometer ticked over to "I just can't get out of bed anymore...let alone play hockey."
Jeff S - I think he came with Jack B, if I'm not mistaken...
Jack B - Had a wicked shot...considering that I didn't make fun of him like most everyone else - that says it all right there.
Eri M - Stick to basketball. Good choice. You can always cry and call a foul in that game. Doesn't work with us.
Bill T - .... .... .... Bill was a 7 foot Mongolian with a Mohawk and he rode a Honda Big Dog. No? Well, then, do you know who Bill was? Didn't think so.
Ron H - Married JR's sister-in-law. Decided to give hockey a try. Then fell off the face of the hockey earth.
Joel P - Married JR's cousin. Fell off the face of the hockey earth. Hmmm....is there a trend here?
James C - James C was....well .... he was...uhhh....hmmmm.....I hate to use such a cliche as "unforgettable"...uhhhh....so I wont.
Reggie S - That's what you get Reggie when you don't show up in a blue moon! You get on this list. With your brother. And a bunch of other people we don't even remember anymore. So what's it gonna be, bro? Gonna show up on Sunday?
Barely escaping the list were:
Brian H, Riccardo A, Jack R, Jon L, Tommy J, Matt J, Mark S and Matt D since they showed up Sunday!
Did I forget anyone? Add them to the list!
My deep thought of the day:
For centuries, people thought the moon was made of cheese. Then astronauts found that the moon is really a big hard rock. Well, what happens to cheese when you leave it out? Exactly.
Quite the research on that one...kind of funny how many different people have played with us on Sunday.
This might be the best post this year.
>This might be the best post this year.
Yeah, I agree. Good stuff. I was just reading it...aahh, memories...
New poll: Best/Funniest Anonymous Blogger
Does WPR count? Not exactly anonymous, is he?
i still don't know who WPR is
HaHaHaHaHa
handley, not bad. Though in Recaps you cant just ramble like you do.
Brendon, The most comments in any one post is 123.
The longest post was by John-710 words
http://playerstatistics.blogspot.com/2008/12/lambs-to-slaughter.html#comments
I dont have the stats on the longest comment. Though Im guessing either you, Jared or Brett own that record.
Brett, this is how we define a clutch stat:
http://playerstatistics.blogspot.com/2008/11/are-you-clutch.html#comments
already got my answer
why isn't leader of the pack on the most recent post?
He'd get my vote. I cherished every word he said.
not post, poll i mean
This year ther have been records set in goals scored (62), assists made(49) and points all together(96). And there is still plenty of hockey to play this season.
in 06-07. there were a total of 207 goals by the top 10 in 278 games. 346 points combined
in 07-08 there was a spike in scoring (steroids?) 261 goals in 292 games. 465 points combined
in 08-09 so far there have been 280 goals, 507 points in 343 games(definately steroids). More games then ever. More goals and assists then ever.
I want a hair and urine sample from every one this sunday.
i was just thinking BB, i have captained a team and won.
Jared and i were captains and i picked Dave as my goalie and he won a few games for me. Jared had JR on his team
so check your sources BB
did you "anchor" that team brett or did dave? BB didn't ask if you've picked the teams.
i did. you can't win if you don't score goals. That's the week i killed my brother too. Had to leave early.
"already got my answer"
Sorry, i didnt see that. Next why dont you politely say:
"Thanks Nick, for looking that up for me, but I already found it."
Or you could just said thanks.
wasn't this all started with Ed Burton and his brother?
I think Anthony Denuchi & his brother played as well.
I remember playing with them before I even knew who you guys were.
will Ron Leger ever play in Saugus again?
if not can we raise his number to the rafters? I think he deserves it, having a mustache and all.
NOPE I wont be there this sunday or for the rest of the year for that matter, Jared errr.. i mean "handey" Torn quad, you missed my pimp limp at the assembly last weekend, circa griff 2000 or 2001. I do love your posts tho my good man keep up the good work. Nick get a life and start preppin for the draft, you have way to much time on your hands if you are counting words in posts. I vote for Jared and Brendan to play center, or even "D" as neither of them ever get back, and they need to prove that they are multi-faceted players, rather than finishing machines. My appreciation for Brendan has increased this year by his ability to finish. Demao on D is a force, Demeo in the middle could be even more of a force. Like was said he's a blue collar guy who does all the little things and doesnt make many mistakes. Give him a shot. Thats my take on things despite not being there for a month or so. Its good to know that at the rate Bradley is scoring. It will only take me a two games playing wing next year to pass him on the all time list. We sorta have this competition thing going. Brett I will contact you about playing Mario Kart at some point this year. How come U never responded to my text after the Habs loss to the B's this year.. hmm maybe i'll start to harass Lee! Alright I think thats all I got for you guys, besides the fact I miss playing with you all, and watching steve become the legend he is becoming. Ok Nick go ahead and count the words in this post now. If i dont see any of you guys over the summer take care. Oh btw its "Worldly" not "Wordly"... big difference lol!!!
seeing as this is black history month, who was the first black person to play in saugus with us?
I'm talking about skin color, not people who try to be black.
but who was the first.
and i don't think we're celebrating the event or being racial, it just made me think especially after reggie posted.
it's kind of like when the bruins recognized willie o'ree as the first black player in nhl history.
if Scott F won't be there this sunday and you need a goalie JR, i'll play goal. If Scott will be there i'll play out.
Shins are flaring up again. I wouldn't mind not pushing them.
"wasn't this all started with Ed Burton and his brother?
I think Anthony Denuchi & his brother played as well.
I remember playing with them before I even knew who you guys were."
Yeah thats right, and im guessing my cousin(especially ed) rubbed some people the wrong way.
Brendon, Im black. No quotation marks needed because im black
Reggie, 317 words. And i could draft our team right now, baby!
it sounds like Brett is only willing to play if he deems his opponent worthy.

Hey Brett,
I'll let you know but I should be all set with goalies this week. My dad is planning on coming again, so as it is I'm going to have to ask Jimmy to play out again (unless Steve doesn't show or my dad bails). But if all of those options fall through, you're in!
Man, I thought I would have had some comments to read...I cant wait for hockey tonight!
same here nick im dissapointed
Could be a very interesting night of hockey...details tomorrow.
How's that for a tease!
ok my guess is someone (or a few) that doesn't come on a regular basis is coming.
My guesses
Scott, Ron, Derek, tony (the goalie)
Brendon, I had talked to Ron a few months ago and he wants to play, but he injured his knee or groin and he didn't want to reinjure it and wanted to give it time to really heal. That was probably 4 or 5 months ago.
Mike is correct...at least one of those players are coming tonight.
my guess is Derek is a showing.
Though Scott seemed like he would play soon when i talked to him last week.

actually it is a lot to ask. Though if i was writing the recap it would be up by now. John was given the opportunity this week and as a result it will not be up until tomorrow.
BTW, the comment that says "ask?" is our record breaking comment.
with John writing it, it'll be up sunday.
I still think they should have creamed us with the top forwards that they had.
Jared, is Derek still the best in your mind?
If Derek still has the magic touch, he sure didn't show it last Sunday.
maybe he's just not cut out for the talent level in saugus.
apparently not last Sunday's talent level...either that or he's holding back for some reason. Why, I wouldn't know.
will Derek be showing up next week too?
BTW, Brett - did anyone fill you in on what happened after you left?
i know the white team lost again 5-3. but that's it
I think Brett under estimated the ability of his teammates.
Jared picked well & the white team played as a team.
The dark team won the 3rd game without Brett with out even missing a beat.
Mike W was a force at D and at the point. Distributed the ball perfectly and new when to rush in not the mention the dark team covered defenisvely almost flawlessly.
Jared was mad man carrying the puck and found the open man consistantly.
Steve was a brick wall back there in net.
Lenny is his usually quiet manner ripped in a couple of goals.
Matt S was solid as well.
Mike D stepped in and anchored a line at center and made it near impossible to get anything going in the middle.
There was no floor to blame, no real "lucky" bounces, no bad calls.
The dark team was the blue collar team and just outworked the white team and proved - the team - is more important than the individual
but look at the past few weeks performances by all the picks.
Mike W has been forgetable. no impact at all.
Mike D has been solid but still no real impact. Bad shoulder too.
Brian and Jim on D were pretty shaky 2 weeks ago. Very shaky i should say.
Brendon got back on D this week. not most weeks though and so did Jared. he helped his own cause
Steve has been great. but you just can't help but think the next game will be a bad game for him. he's on a hot streak.
And i'm sure WPR will bring out how good all those players played this week. You're right, they played as a team.
But that's not to say the white team didn't underachieved.
MVW deserves a spot on the WPR this week, definitely!
i think they flat out got out played.
Impact doesn't always mean points / goals.
reading passing lanes, not letting them get off good shots, rotating and convering positions.
getting open with out the puck.
Constantly attacking & passing.
the dark team swarmed the puck, look at how many shots got blocked.
"proved - the team - is more important than the individual"
-perhaps the understatement of the week.
Both teams played well, but the black team stuck together and helped each other out more. Too many times I saw the white team leaving a player to fend for himself with two dark players on him. Its all about the TEAMWORK!
Also, no white players should reach the power rankings this week. Except maybe honorable mention. Some of them played very well, but you win and lose as a team and they showed that they could just not put it together. If a white team player is on the power ranks, it would be tantamount to saying that an individual star is more important than their team which is not true. If they won a game, that might be different. But losing three games should not get you there unless you lost all three games 5-4 and you had the lion's share of your team's total points. Then, maybe you deserve a break. Not this week, though. This week they just didn't have it and they all know it.
where's that recap, as promised today?
Having a hard time thinking about how to make the white team not look totally bad?
last year 8-0 in games played (mind you i only came twice). this year i think i am already 0-10 which i take part of the blame for. what's that smell? that's the smell of the white teams comeback next sunday. 4-0, calling it right now...as long as i dont break anymore sticks, its becoming very expensive
I dont know where the recap is. And i promised to have the stats sent to me today...maybe i should have done the recap?
Hey Brendon atleast you havent been playing with a brokn stick for 3 months.
i'll post the rankings as soon as the recap is up.
You all are makiing valid points though.
Just to let you know, i wrote the rankings sunday night. so don't think i'm copying from anything already said.
that is brett's second time leaving early
ok here we go
-Lenny's breakaway goals, he been doing that on a pretty consistant basis now so not surprising, but still good
-Mike W's defense, has been a force on D for a while now as well.
-Brett leaving early, been complaining of shin splints for about a month so not surprising either.
-Jared's picks
-John's picks
-Derek's relative ineffectiveness?
I don't really have a point of reference on this
-Me not getting injured, Definately a surprise
-Mike P getting outrun by the other Mike, didn't see it
-Mike D playing solid at center, since never really played and there was some pre game debate, surprising
Figured i'd make it an even 150 for posts.
And my draft was perfect if i do say so myself. The team chemistry and the ability to keep brett's ego in check really shined in the 3 victories sunday.
