The Timely Recap

At times, he is my favorite player to watch. Though, last night, he certainly wasn't his usual tough self. He didn't hustle. He looked uninterested and bored. He seemed aloof, indifferent, and casual. He went about his way like there was not a drop of adrenaline running through his veins. And no one is sure why this happened. Does he need to be playing against Jared for motivation? Was that Johnny Depp style goatee hindering his play? Maybe, he just didn't have "it" last night. But what ever the case may be, I went 4-0, and that's all that matters...

*What's that famous quote?: "Offense sells tickets; Defense wins championships". In the case of the white team in Game 1, they had neither. One scout said of them "As much as they looked confused and unorganized, they never really got the good bounces either." It certainly was not a pretty 5-1 defeat. Entering last night, how many wins do you think Jack had in net? Five, ten, fifteen, more? NOPE! He entered last night with a season total of zero wins. So, what were the odds of Jack going 4-0 last night? "Well, when you get help from both teams you usually have good results." said one white team player.

*When one player was asked what he thought about "the trade" check out his response: "Brett for JB? What is Jared doing?" Yeah, I'm going to have to agree with that. The return of garlic breath was interesting, but he wasn't what he was the last we saw him."He looked slow, he made a few bad passes and his shot was not as accurate." said one scout. The trade, in the end, was a lateral move at best for the white team as they lost game two by the score of 5-1. As MVM, Matt Davis and Lee carried the defense for the dark team, it led to Nick playing up more often. "He cherry-picked most of the time and he still came up empty handed-kind of pathetic" said one player. Well, maybe if my "partners" ran with me I would have been more successful. Maybe.

*Do you smell that? Yeah, I still smell the garlic too. Though, it doesn't stink as much as the white team did in game three. Now, you are probably saying: "It cant be worse then two 5-1 losses in games one and two for the white team, could it?" WRONG! This game was over in what seemed like ten minutes. "It was pitiful. An absolute embarrassment" said one white team player. It was so bad that players of the white team decided to bail on their team. Guys, sometimes the teams workout, sometimes they don't. But, you should never just give up. Always play hard and hope for the best, but never bail.

*Coincidentally, game four was the most competitive game of the night. "It was a hard fought battle and both teams deserved to win, but the white just couldn't prevail again" said one scout. After some players had to leave there was another trade. New guy Steve was traded for Brendon. This led to letting Chris and Matt be a backbone to a solid defense. After the white battled back to tie the game at four, there was a quick goal by Brett to end the comeback. Game 4 was intense but in the end Jack found away to go 4-0.

Nick's Ramblings

So Lenny, How many break aways did Johnny give you in game 4? Now compare that to the number of goals you had. Brett you are not intimidating when you yell, work on that. Power Rankings and Big Board, I dont see any obvious picks this week, your choices will be interesting. Are you more nervous when Nick takes slap shot or Joe? Johnny, sadly, ended his 7 game losing streak. Mike De Maio we missed your "center playing ability". Brett, I will work on making faster decisions. "MVW"-Do you guys know what the "V" stands for? Has Lee ever played up that much? When will you be better Reggie? I felt like this was a solid recap. Though I didnt have a lot to ramble about this week.

Saugus appearances 1, meeting appearances 0

5 Jack - Finally!! 4-0 in one night with a shut out. Probably wished Jared didn’t leave early so he could have had two shut outs. We’re all happy for you Jack, you deserved these wins a lot sooner than they came.

4 Joe - The knee slide was back and better than ever, much to Jared’s displeasure. Joe did what ever it took to stop the white team from scoring. Joe was able to pot one of his head hunting slap shots into the net off Chris’ elbow for the game winner. Don’t let Jared fool you next time when he cries about his ankle or what ever was “hurt”.

3 JR - Johnny jumped all over the forwards in the draft and some how still got the 2 top defenders also (oh that’s right, Jared was the other captain. It makes sense now). When a trade was demanded, JR somehow got the better end of the deal most thought. Nice to see you back to you’re old self again Johnny.

2 Brendon - Drafted higher then ever in the draft, Brendon showed he was worthy of it by dishing the ball all night. His shot was accurate, which led to many rebounds and second chances. He was even able to give the dark team a run for their money in game 4, taking on Brett and JR. That’s more than I can say about Jared.

1 Brett - Not to say he was what made the dark team win the last 3 games . . . . But he was. A change of scenery was all Brett needed to get his game going netting 6 goals in the 3 games with the dark team(0 with the white team). Who in their right mind would trade their first pick away, just so others don’t feel bad? Brett was glad you did Jared. He beat you to 100 points this year. It did go through the net by the way.

Did you notice a theme throughout this weeks rankings? WPR doesn’t take kindly to players who abandon their team cause of their results or the games events. That’s something that could get you banished from the rankings. You said it yourself Jared(to Joe) “this is pick up hockey!!!” No need for you to get so upset

Anonymous said...

WPR should rename himself - I am brett and I just love myself.

WPR jumps on Jared for a bad ankle, but quickly forgets Brett has left early as well for "shin splints"

And this "Anonymous" is......Jared! yaaaaaaaaaay!

could it be that I'm a bigger impact player than I'm given credit for.. hmmm
JK

looks like a missed a good week.

Bonus points for anyone who can guess what the "theme" of this post is.

Joe
where's that knee slide, Joe?
no longer urban legend.
offensemen beware!

John R
alone, John loses.
add good wingers and he wins.
pick wings over D.

Brett
Brett and Jared lose.
Brett and John result in wins.
so much for Jared.

Jared
lost every game he played.
needs Brett and Brendon to win?
make smarter trades, J!

Brendon
scoring King, no but:
better to be on his team
than not on his team.

Mike W
A-plus for effort:
one-hundred and ten percent.
difficult to beat!

JB
shake off the old rust:
time to get back into shape!
you couldn't keep up.

Matt S
some say he's minor.
minor role? major impact!
plays well with teammates.

Matt D
converted to wing.
replace "talent" with hustle:
skills come in due time.

Griff
worth a top draft pick?
definitely not this time.
you gotta produce!

Lenny
lost four games in all.
0-for-7: breakaways.
dropped the ball, big time.

Nick
solid D back there.
needs practice at offense.
time will help fix that.

Lee
did not quit this time.
blocked shots in front of the net.
see? good things happen!

Brad
didn't see the hustle.
take a lesson from Mike Ward:
play like you want it!

Steve F & Jack R
both goalies played well.
no insults for them this week:
can't blame for losses.

Steve P
newcomer played well.
hone your skills by watching us:
work on your passing.

And my deep thought of the day is:

Ambition is like a frog sitting on a Venus Flytrap. The flytrap can bite and bite, but it won't bother the frog because it only has little tiny plant teeth. But some other stuff could happen and it could be like ambition.

One more for good measure:

If you saw two guys named Hambone and Flippy, which one would you think liked dolphins the most? I'd say Flippy, wouldn't you? You'd be wrong, though. It's Hambone.

Mr. anonymous, Brett has never left his team because he didn't like who he was playing with. Read my post again. I don't criticize him for having a hurt ankle and leaving, I criticize him for not liking his team and leaving. That’s just poor sportsmanship. If he was hurt and left then I could understand. But he kept flapping his mouth all the way out of the rink about how terrible the games were and how unfair the calls were.

I’d like to see a different Jared next week. Earn my trust back Jared.

and yes i do favor players who play hard every week and do the little things. I'm willing to give them credit when it is due.

JR has been the #1 star the most not Brett

read between the lines - Jared wrote that, obviously! Who else would care? Hahahahha!

knee slides are fine if the person doing them uses their brain...I know that's not always the case though

Mike D said...

i think a large percentage of the time they are not used correctly.

and eventually someone is going to take one to face as was already mentioned.

I don't think they should be dissallowed though.
I admit that use it occasionally as well. I've been trying not to lately.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the concern guys.... both of those have have happen to me (shot to my face and a follow through to the face.) stiches on both occasions. Mike your right a large percentage of the time they are not used correctly. and 'anonymouse', That was a pretty dumb question. slides are part of the defence in hockey...good slides get to the ball first and a good hockey player sees them coming...bad slides get there late and never toaches the ball almost always resulting in a penalty.

Anonymous said...

I think Jared is still resenting that knee slide, joe! at least thats what it sounds like to me!

Mike D said...

Joe you are very good at them and I have no issue with the way you do them because you do them correct.

I will admit that when I see you coming I'm always thining I'm gonna shank you though..

when was the last time Brett had a losing week?

Put Jared and John on the same team.

Anonymous said...

Who died and made them captains?

The Real Deal is back with another fair and balanced re-cap. Let's get right to it. On Saturday night black team knew that they had a chance to win. You could see the gleam in everyone of thier eyes. JB, Brenden, and Mike were added to the likes ofthe defensive trio of Joe, Lee and Nick . On the other team though, The white team had Jared,Brett & red hot Lenny(last weeks TRD top 3). Add 2 veterans of thier own on defence, Chris & Matt S. and there was gonna be some hockey played!

Game 1: Right from the opening face-off John's team showed unity, something the white team forgot in thier equipment bags. We all heard that 'defence creates the offence'.Well thats just what happened. Jack had a buffer zone all around him & anything that did manage to get through was pretty much steered away. Meanwhile arguments, Soccer style acting( OUCH) and a trade that still has everyone scratching thier heads set the mood for the white team from this 5-1 loss on.

Game 2: THE TRADE!
"Last weeks no. 1 player gets traded for JB and this is supposed to make us better?" Right from thier first confrontation along the center boards Brett showed what a dumb trade that was. Stick handling right by JB and went in on the attack. Which never let up by the way. Now the white team had to rely on Jared & Lenny for offence.(maybe that was the plan?) Why give up offence and not get a defender in the trade? ...beats me. Jack got his 2nd win & a shut-out despite Jared lowering himself to faking an injury(soccer style)so he could get a goal.(again, maybe it was part of that game plan). Team black was revitalized w/ the reappearance of Joe on defence.
Game 3: more of the same. Defence not only creates offence but also creates a good goaltender. Something Steve had but now Jack possesed. Lenny did disappoint but not his fault. It was defence setting the tone for the night.Black wins again 5-1. Which brings us to the 2nd trade of the night.

Game 4: Jb & Jared left...Maybe the only game plan that actualy worked! Now the white team knew that they needed help if they were to win and help they got. In the form of Brendon(goal scorer) and Joe(goal stopper). And they almost pulled it off....They should have pulled it off! Yeah Lenny u could have put it away not only once but 8 times YOL.It was a good game though, the defence against the offence. It went to the wire 4-4 then the defence finaly got tired. Heres where I think Lenny(the defencmen turned forward)could have come in handy back to his original position where he has shown some skills. But, the inevitable was about to happen...and happen it did.
The winning goal, scored by the very player that never should have gotten traded!...Irony.

Real Deal, yeah, I'm still having nightmares about those breakaways. Guess that's part of my offense I need to develop still.

I definitely let my team down, but I'll rise from the ashes next week!

Lenny D said...

Though with 3 goals for my team, I had a decent percentage of our goals I think...

Anonymous said...

True that Len. 3 of 6 goals, every 2 scored 1 was urs.
Which reminds me ...I forgot TRD's top 5

1 Brett: Just edged out Joe for this spot
2 Joe: If only white would hve won the last game he'd make it to no 1
3 Lenny: 50% of his teams goals...nuff said
4 John R:took a page out of Len's offence
5 Jack: 4-0

nah, i dont think it's brad.

Thanks Brendon for the valuable criticism. I can sure use the help w/ my writingI admit. Sorry for all the mistakes and misuses ...I was out playing hockey when everyone else was in school:)
By YOL i meant Yelling Out Loud.
Never did I say that Lenny was the problem, far from it, I think he was one of the bright spots for the white team. I know he got a good chunk of thier goals(Idont have the stat sheet in front of me)
I'm simply going on memory here...I appologize.
All I meant that i believe he was missmanaged at times thats all. After all he was one of the 3 stars on my list if it means anything.
As far as my use of the word IRONY u could be right(please tell me the right word if u knew what i was trying to say). the defenition i came up with was "-a technique of indicating, as through character development, an intention or attitude opposite to that which is actually or ostensibly stated-" in this case the trade had the opposite impact. But, again if I'm wrong, please do send me that dictionary.
