The not so timely Recap

With every great comeback there is a colossal collapse. But what team should be credited with the win? Should it be the team that fought back and rose to the challenge? Or should it be the team that collapsed under the pressure like Manuel Uribe's top bunk did. (yes, it was a bunk bed)

*Well, well, well. I'm not really sure what to say. Game one was a pathetic showing by another one of Jared's team. It was indescribably ugly. "Amazing...they just packed it in" said one stunned scout. It looked like the white team was going to dominate this game. They took a quick 3-0 lead on goals by Griff, Jared and Nick. Wait! Yes, Nick had a goal...think about that. The white team had a 3-0 advantage and had some type of offensive contribution from Nick. A win should be in the bag. "Theoretically, yes, the win should have been wrapped up but sadly they thought the same way, and you cant do that." said one black (dark team) player [still my favorite joke]. And then, all of sudden, the dark team got a quick goal. Oldies 103.3 decided not to cover his man, Joe, and he took advantage by taking an excellent slap shot on a ball from the point. Like the snap of the fingers, the white team bounced back with a goal of there own by Griff. It was a four to one lead, what could go wrong? "Everything went wrong." said one player. That same player also kept harping on one point. "we became over confident and stopped playing..it's that simple." John, Brett and Brendon soon came with three straight goals, tying the game at 4. "At that point, they were already done...they were just waiting for it to become official" said one scout. Brett, eventually ended the epic one and half game.

*Game two was more of a continuation of what happened to the white team after they scored their fourth goal in game one. "I didn't think they could play more out of it then they did in the second half of game one, but they did!" said one cynical scout. The score didn't do justice to the beating that had taken place by the dark team. "5-2, was the score? I don't believe it." said one frustrated player. Well, I can see how he had that viewpoint after the way Jared wined about the teams. We live a world where people are vulgar, rude, licentious and puerile. And Jared fell into what category? Jared, I'm going to call you out. Play hard and hope for the best...never quit. Be Better :) (me putting a smiley face makes me not sound like a jerk. It's fun how that works out.) As usual, John Riley was the key offensively with three goals in game 2.

*Game 3 was when Jared quit complaining and started to be better. And how did that work out for him? The white team pulled together, after refusing to make a trade that most felt was needed, and grabbed the much deserved victory. "They looked like they did in the first half in game one" said one scout. "Though, they did get some help with Johnny not playing the first half of the game and Jimmy missing some goals he probably should have had." said one white (team) player [yes, Reggie im "integrated"]

Nick's Ramblings

Again guys sorry for the delay. I probably wouldn't have had it up today if I wasn't bothered enough by the numerous text messages I recieved. Oldies (and everyone else) remember to cover the guys on the point. Nice game by the rookie, Dan on Sunday. Jared, be better. At one point do you guys get mad when the recap isnt up? When is the absolute latest I can get it up without complaing? We actually had a post asking for the recap before I got home Sunday night. That's crazy. I would like to give a shout out to John for excellent job of getting the stats up on time. But, it's obvious (because of the recent poll) that people care more about the recap. Reggie, how are you feeling this week. I want a comment on the board. I nominate Brendon to write the longest comment for the week. (of course, no one reads them though) When will Scott make his next apperence? MVW, where were you? Our games lacked someone running around aimlessly this week. Brett, let WPR know, that I disappointed him this week. Big Board your posts have been lacking quality and depth.

Part II of “Fair Teams”

5 Brett - After a slow start to the night (Ariel was there) Brett strapped on the shin pads that Areil dropped off and started to net the ball. What a difference a year make. Last year he had 0 GW goals. This year he is tied for first and a lot are coming in clutch situations. But for your team to win all 3 games i sugguest atleast getting more assists than Dale.

4 Joe - With another week of great D, Joe also got the ball rolling on another mind boggling come from behind win. Joe was still itching to get more goals, complaining that the forwards weren't using the point enough. Maybe it's cause they don't want their teeth smashed in from one of your shots. Keep them lower and you'll get more passes.

3 Dale - How many times did you hear his teammates calling for passes? ALOT is the answer. But what happens when a player tries to make the pass and can't? No scoring chance. But Dale shoots first which is a scoring chance and then if there's a rebound, it can lead to another scoring chance. Dale had 4 assists(most out of anyone) cause he shot first. And there were rebounds. You should looking to set him up more.

2 JR - Face offs are better cause you have to earn control of the ball. Johnny decided to just score right off the face-off instead. His skills on the draw are improving leading to more scoring chances for, not only him, but his whole team. I still can't believe you didn't give that assist to Brett after he crashed into the boards!!

1 Jared - 5 goals in a row for his team (6 total). Even though Brett said you played horrible, and yet again scored from long distance, I still think you deserve this spot for the sole reason that you complain till there is change. Whether anyone likes is or not doesn't matter. You get in the opponents heads better than anyone else. Just don't give up in the middle of games, keep playing no matter what happens

Are you the "real deal" Lenny?

my favorite part of the night, but I forgot to mention in the recap, was when Jared flipped Jimmy's stick. Though, I think Lenny was the only other person to appreciate the humor.

Great call on dale WPR for #3, he's definately the main reason we scraped out 1 win. But to think, white team complained that we got him.

And joe, there's another person i drafted, but yet, i was denied by the jr/brett captain duo because my team was "getting too good". Ya?!?!?! How about JR and Brett together every week and they are the 2 best players? Add Joe and Brendon and that becomes fun for dark team.

Can i atleast have lenny? NOPE! Nonetheless, I'm proud of dark team, despite once again being heavy underdogs, we got one win.

Can Griff play hard when he's with me and not just when he plays against me?

Can Riley and Brett be captains, or the goalies, or not me?

Rable Rable. I'm going to bed, here's to my first post in a long time.

Anonymous said...

TPJ you had you, griff, mike d, nick(who you didn't mind taking instead of joe), dale and the goalie who is suppose to be alot better.

That is a good team.

When the score was 4-1 in game 1, I was thinking of trades we could make to make the teams fairer. Just because the draft didn't go your way doesn't mean the teams were unfair.

And you do realize you complimented Brendon right?

Jimmy again gave up some long distance goals, which is why one team should be a bit better than the other.

Anonymous said...

Jared played fine but shouldn't the top rank be someone who was on the team that won 2 of the 3 games, instead of losing 66% of the games that night? If jared doesn't win that last game and loses all 3 games he probably wont even make the ranks, so how does he skyrocket to #1 with only one measly win? Maybe we should all complain like he does. It seems to get him some pity ranks.

Anonymous said...

he made the biggest difference with his loud mouth. had 6 goals too, more than anyone else that night

you can try to be as annoying as Jared, but you'll fail. No one is more annoying

who gets the honorable mention this week?

OK anonymous - PLEASE do us a favor and SHUT UP.

IF you're gonna called Jared annoying be a man and put your name on it!!!

you know what is annoying - YOU

good call on saying Jared should just kill himself to.. what the heck is wrong with you?
It's not funny, you're not funny, grow a set & put your name on your post or please just SHUT THE HECK UP!!!

At least he puts his name on his posts

I think the person who wrote that was the same person who complimented him. He's having an argument with himself and my guess is that it is not to be taken seriously. Hint: look at the time of each post.

HOT

Jared: Has 10 goals in the past 2 weeks. Most by anyone. And you say Brett is better than you? Silly!

Joe: Maybe it was Joe that made Nick look so good that week he got #3. Joe turned in another great night on D.

Lee: Always gets his 1 goal for the week. I find it amusing and puzzling at the same time.

NOT

Griff: Jared needs more from you. 0 assists is unacceptable.

Steve: Has lowered his game to the talent of the opposing goalie. You need to get back to being a game changer

Anonymous said...

Uggh. Not this again. Hot or Not is the Real Deal is the Leader of the Pack is Lenny. Keeps changing identities, but has same content.

Anonymous said...

That is correct!

My two cents on a couple of topics...

WPR, as much effort as Brett showed crashing into the boards on the play before our team scored from the faceoff, to give him an assist on that play would be going against how scoring is counted in hockey. Brett crashed into the boards, the play stopped, a faceoff ensued, we scored. As instrumental as Brett's rush was, it's technically not an assist - NHL or for us. It's kind of out of my hands...great play by Brett on that though.

Second, Jared, when I pick teams I purposely try to make them as fair as possible - it's not as much fun if the other team doesn't present a challenge. I also don't feel you've given a fair representation of how the teams were picked, especially after I addressed your request from last week. Finally, I think the games themselves prove the teams were fair. So, I'd like you to post what you think would be fair teams this week and we can probably go with that.

As a final note, it doesn't have to be me, Jared, or Brett to pick teams each week. If two other people would like to pick them, nominate yourselves. Throwing sticks isn't an option, but we can have different people choose teams if people are willing.

Anonymous said...

BTW, I thought both Joe and Mike D played fantastic this past week.

Anonymous said...

i don't know who leader of the pack is, but i do know that hot or not and real deal are two different people.

Anonymous said...

referring to my "assists", the first goal JR scored should have counted. Jared said no just to get even from when his goal was disallowed cause he said he was hurt and rolled around on the ground.

I said nothing at all!! And I didn't even sub after the crash. That's what makes it so maddening.

If someone gets tripped by the other team that's different(Jared got tripped and i stopped to give the other team the ball). I crashed all by myself and said nothing to cause a stop in the game. Play should have continued.

Anonymous said...

WPR, still waiting to hear who gets the honorable mention this week?

Well im muchin on some cornuts at work reading the recap and thinkin boy do i miss the competition. You guys sound like you are having a blast, and some guys are really stepping up and showing that they are two way players. I seem to be on track for June. I am on the eliptical machine at the gym to do some cardio..no where near what i should be able to do. Im walking somewhat normally but i still cant walk down inclines or take stairs without consicously thinking about stepping down. I have more knots of torn muscle in my quad, it feels like pudding. I should be able walk at a fast pace and hopefully run by the end of MAY. I miss playing with you guys lots. Im hope to come thru and watch/coach/makefun of you guys as you run around. Lets rememeber all these games are in fun and that we all are winners.....................hahah i cant believe i wrote that crap line with a straight face. BRING IT OR GOME HOME!!!

funny stuff reg. Rest up and don't come back too early and pull a Taylor on us!

Lenny D said...

Not trying to be the voice of reason, but if a guy crashes the boards like Brett did, we should make sure he's OK. It's kinda silly to say it's a bad play to stop to make sure someone's OK. I stopped playing and he was on my team!

So if a guys passes out, should we still play because he didn't call time? "Oh, he'll come around eventually. Just don't trip over him." :)

Nick said...

I agree Lenny. I understand why know one stopped when you tripped, you seemed fine. To me, it looked like Brett was down and out. Though, it may have been my vantage point.

Mike D said...

When you hit the boards Brett it looked bad.

It would have been different if you had just tripped in open area.

You hit the boards and just kind of sat there.
I honestly thought you hit your head or something.

Anonymous said...

i'm just mad my assist didn't count after hitting the boards that hard.

Anonymous said...

I thought the teams were definetly unbalanced. That being said I'm always up for the challenge. If we win it's that much sweeter. I felt the white team should have gotten more credit in the recap. Ya we collaped at the end of the first game but we didnn't give up. Jimmy made some key saves and we got some bad breaks along with the dark team finally showing up for who they really were. A better team! I have NO idea who kidnapped us and played the second game. The recap did us no fair justice in the third. We got out of our funk alog with a cheesy goal from 85 feet. Jimmy by the way had no idea that he even shot it. That just gave Jared and Griff the fight attitude they needed.

Anonymous said...

Yes I think John and brett should be captains once in a while. Unless John is picking first there should be no reason why Brett should end up on his team. I know last week was a fluke because jareds first two didn't show up but EVERY WEEK! Something ain't right.

Anonymous said...

matt, its funny how I was on the white and I wrote the recap. the truth is, it's funner to make fun of one team and not talk about what they did right.

Anonymous said...

no poll question this week?

Anonymous said...

Hey, The only reason you guys won game three was because I had to go outside and get my glove that Jared flung over the boards....You guys scored 2 goals while I was out looking for it instead of playing defence...It's all about the plus/minus lol just kiddin good game white.

Anonymous said...

WPR, the shots are never above the crossbar anymore (believe me I've been workin on it)It's not my fault that we're all short:) When I ask for the ball at the point It's not only for me but the other defenceman too. In order to be even more effective we've got to get all 5 players involved, draw out they're fowards swing it around...you know, pass it!

Anonymous said...

Sorry guys, I dont get a chance to go online much. I agree that whenever anyone's down it should be our brothers safety first. Just a thought, Why dont we let the goalies pick teams. They know us better than anyone else. They see who's strong or week in certain areas, who's running who's not. After all they do have the best view.

Anonymous said...

i thought I was on early...sheesh!

BTW, Seeing that you play goalie often, that viewpoint makes sense

Anonymous said...

Hey Matt,

At worst I'd the teams were pretty even, although I'd still give a slight edge to your team. Even though I had Brett on my team, Jared had Steve, Griff, and Mike D which combined helped to offset that. Throw into that we had the new kid Danny (who has potential but never had played street hockey before) plus an uninspired Bradley and I think they were close.

To go with the point about Brett and I on the same team...until Borges is back whatever team has two out of Jared, Brett, or myself will have the edge. The trick is balancing out the rest of the teams to offset it.

Anonymous said...

you had brendan too. He had just as many points as Brett did

Anonymous said...

Top 6 Point-Getters from 3/15/09

Player G A P W GW
1. John R 5 2 7 2 0
1. Jared 6 1 7 1 0
3. Brett 3 2 5 2 1
3. Brendon 3 2 5 2 1
3. Dale 1 4 5 1 1
6. Joe N 1 2 3 2 0

Interestingly, Brendon tied Brett in every category. Dale had 1 less win than them, less goals, more assists, and the same amount of points. Pretty even.

Anonymous said...

where is the BB?

And also, jared, post your teams for this week assuming borges and mike W show

Anonymous said...

joe, one of your shots hit Brendon in the neck or chest and bounced to johnny and he scored.

Low is the way to go on steve anyway.

Anonymous said...

what if one of the goalies think that Nick is the best player there?

The reason that we have the same captains is that they have a good grasp on the talent level of all the players.

Anonymous said...

Talent Scout,

That's why you can't judge solely on stats. Despite similar stats, Brett was better then Brendon on Sunday, especially in carrying the puck, covering defensively (I will say though that Brendon had the biggest goal of the night for us when he scored on the breakaway in the 3rd game - we gained a ton of momentum from that).

Looking at the stats one would think Joe was just okay. Truth is, he almost single-handedly kept us in that first game with some great D, allowing us to get back in it.

Stats are a good measuring stick, but if you decide teams solely on stats it probably won't work.

Anonymous said...

Edit - meant to say that Brendon scored in the 1st game.

Anonymous said...

I hit Brendon under the arm pit,( he showed me the bruise) then I hit Chris under the arm pit too. (3 weeks ago)

Anonymous said...

Hey it doesn't bother me one way or another what the teams are. If I think the teams are uneven then we have to try harder and get a better stratagy. The team capt. needs to take control. Jared, this means you if you are the capt. Move poeple around to diff. positions if you think that will work or tell us what we need to do better.

Mike D said...

That is easy to say Brendon, but the that won isn't going to hand over a really strong player for a weaker player.

of course the loosing team wants to trade a weak player for a strong player, but on the flip side the team that won looks at the weaker player and tries to give up someone that they won't mind giving up and that is not going to be a really strong player.

Anonymous said...

We really don't need to make this too complex...we try to pick fair teams, and if they are obviously not fair we try to balance them. Both teams should have a legitimate chance to win - that should be the goal...that stated I want my team to win every game!

I am going with the assumption we'll pick teams as usual this week since we haven't had two people volunteer to be captains. Also, it's noteworthy that Jared hasn't posted what he feels what would be fair teams this week...

Anonymous said...

OK, here is the ultimate solution to allowing the white(light) team to win the SAME amount of games as the Black(dark) team each week.
1. Play an even number of games
2. At the end of each game everyone exchange shirts with the other team, or every 2 games so it doesn't get too confusing

Anonymous said...

I'm not wearing your shirt Matt - way too gross!

Anonymous said...

alright alright, let's calm down, i've got some recommendations for teams sunday.

My only point Johnny when we pick teams is that you underestimate you and brett together, which is tough to defend.

i want

Me Brett Griff MattS MikeD Dale Nick BrianH Brad
Jim in net

Vs

Johnny Borges MVW Brendon Joe Lenny Lee Mattyd Mark
Steve in Net

Depending on who else does/doesn't show we can tweak but there, those are my teams.

Anonymous said...

Sounds good to me! Let's play!

Lenny D said...

Ugh, with those teams, I'd be playing D all night. I guess that is my lot in life...
