The White Horses Clicked but the Black Stallions Won the Show

There was a lot of hullabaloo of JR and TPJ playing on the same team. Would they "Click Together"... would they “Dominate Together"... or would they "Fall Together". This was answered if you made it to the action of SNHL last night. Who would of guessed that I’d say… queue up the Meatloaf classic... "2 out of 3 Ain’t Bad". For poor Johnny and Jared, and the rest of the white horses, the “Dominate Together” wasn’t happening. There was some Domination though… in large part, the Black Stallions D, that’s right, D stands for Domination… D for Dave Rocked… and finally D stands for Delivered. The Black Stallions were the class of the night, best of show and built to WIN!!! How does that other Meatloaf song go... let me sleep on it... baby baby let me sleep on it... I’ll give you an answer in the morning… IT’S MONDAY MORNING… LETS HEAR IT!

RON NEEDS TO DO ALL THE RECAPS FROM NOW ON!!!!!!!

Weekly Power Rankings said...

11-25-09

Up The Boards Nick!!!.....Ronnie Can Do It

5 Darrin - He worked well with Ron all night(way more chemistry than Johnny and Jared). Not only was he the set up man all night(won't show in the stats but he was) but he possessed that back-checking ability that Ron is getting more and more unable to provide. But he's injury prone and had to sit out the last bit of game 3.

4 Joe - What a much better defended he becomes when he doesn't abuse his knee-sliding ability. Joe teamed with Nick(that's the only mention of Nick you'll see in this post) should get everyones votes for the best defensive pair.....mainly cause Joe is good.

3 Dave - I know I know. That goal was Jimmy-esk. But there's no denying he was a difference maker. Even at the end of the night, when he wasn't trying as hard cause he was tired, he was still stoning JR on point blank shots.

2 Brendon - I love how Brendon checks the score sheet after the game. What does it matter if you don't look at this site anymore? Anyway Brendon was that second good offensemen that the dark team was hoping and needed him to be. His little dump and chase to himself worked more than not during the night and it was used to get the gamewinner.

1 Ron - BB you were right about Ron scoring most of his teams goals. But you were wrong about how many. Every time he wound up for a shot, you thought it was going in. He puck-handled around the offensive zone like Eric Fiore use to do and then would get a scoring chance. And there was nothing the white team could do to stop him.

Anonymous said...

"Not only was he the set up man all night(won't show in the stats but he was)"

If the stats don't support it then it's not the case

Ron said...

I think the stats don’t tell the whole story. Darin was instrumental in carrying the ball into the offensive zone. As everyone knows we only count one pass for an assist, whereas often times there was an initial pass that really setup the whole scoring opportunity.

You look at my assists and you would think that I never pass the puck. If we could see, on video, every rush or pass play that setup eventual goals I believe there are A LOT OF UNSUNG HEROES that don’t get the credit on the stat sheets.

Darin was huge for us last night... on both ends of the floor!

Anonymous said...

Ronnie Jr should have scored on that one-timer setup from Brendon. Ron: make sure he does drills all week long now!

cyoung said...

I agree, Unsung heroes, First two games were good games. How long did it take to score the firs goal??

Game three....uh, what just happened, uh ....we got toasted.

Good to see people trying to deflect Rons slapshot as painful as that may be....(MikeD)

Ron said...

hahaha... yes I'm thinking of taking a piece of plywood, painting a net on it, cutting out 5 holes and then making him practice shooting until he's 5 for 5... 5 times in a row.

If he's going to bare my name, he better keep improving every time he's out there.

cyoung said...

Dave... Thanks for the gift. I think I should pay you more often, but next time at least make it look like some kind of effort to stop it!!!

Anonymous said...

The plywood idea is good. He could improve with that, but did you see the accuracy net that is inside the main building at Saugus? It's an oddly-shaped net that basically rises in the two sides and only a small bump in the middle for 5-hole. It looks like a big W. It's used for practicing corners and 5-hole. Maybe they would let us borrow it if we promise to return it when we're done. On a side-note, I think RJ clearly missed the net, so perhaps he should just focus on hitting the net first!

Anonymous said...

the 5 most influential players were on the dark stallions? It's a miracle white team even won a game!

Anonymous said...

they didn't. the first two goals were terrible deflections from behind the net. one-in a million chances. One was a slow roller from beyond half-court that dave somehow did not stop. they didn't win that game. we lost it. end of story.

Anonymous said...

you're right joe, we did lose the first game thanks to your lackluster defense with brendon and not covering getting back so that's on you, plus we wrongly took a goal away from johnny when it went of his leg with no kicking motion, and deflection goals require screens, eye-hand coordination and teamwork as opposed to just relying on ron to carry the team on his shoulders.

Anonymous said...

who shot them from behind the net?

Anonymous said...

it's just funny that UNSUNG heroes never, NEVER, end up on WPR

Anonymous said...

darrin and brendon were the ultimate unsung heroes who are you referring to?

Anonymous said...

besides this week, when have you seen UNSUNG heroes on WPR?

Brendon is not UNSUNG, I don't know the #'s, but I'm pretty sure he netted a few goals and got a few assists

Anonymous said...

ya but i don't think joe or darrin had many points and they're up there, who are you looking for? everyone else was terrible.

Nick said...

So I dont have to do any more recaps, right? Fine by me.

Hmmm Johnny, Jared and Mike are really quiet on the blog today and tonight. Where could they be?

I'm sending out my Flash Boys to see what they can dig up.

Don't worry guys it will only take like a couple minutes to find the scoop

News Flash said...

Sorry it took longer than anticipated, but I had to DOUBLE CHECK my sources.

I have it on good authority that Jared, Johnny and Mike are into some series game planning for next week.

That's right, the black stallions better be ready because for the past 10 hours Johnny, Jared and Mike have been watching BEN-HUR!

They realize that they need to get more tenacity out of their purebreds without beating it out of them. They are working hard with the affection and love technique that's needed to drive them to victory.

Stay tuned for the latest information. More to come.

name an unsung hero on the year so far. There aren't any. Johnny hasn't even been on half of the rankings this year due to an unimpressive start. And Brett is out. Mike W is gone. No Borges(doesn't really count).
Thats 4 spots.

There might have been some unsung heros last year but that doesn't mean they did enough each week to make the rankings.

But i do think even Bradley made the list once last year.

Again with the blind accusations.

Make your own list if you want and anonymous can be the #1 star every week.

I'm just defending WPR cause he won't defend himself cause he doesn't like to start controversy

I haven't commented today because I've been away from my computer all day. I've been away from it all night too since we've been playing Rock Band (thanks Brett!)

The first two games could have gone either way. The third game I was on the bench until it was 3-0...if not we would not have lost that quickly.

As for not being in half the rankings this year, that's pretty much a joke. There might have been one week where you could make a case for 5 players having a better week than me. The other weeks are simply poor judgment by the WPR. As for my start being unimpressive, from a goalscoring perspective then yeah - I'm scoring from 3-5 goals a week instead of 5-8 goals a week. On the flip side I've been playing more of a playmaker role and so my points are roughly comparable. And of course, points don't mean everything - but in my case I'm also playing center and actually focus on defense so there's not much more you can ask for.

All of that being said, I expect to start scoring more goals as the weeks go on.

we must be “humble in mind.” (1 Pet. 3:8)

enough with the scrip quotes already! yeah, we know, you're trying to make it look like brendon is posting them, however, we also know that he would never be so transparent if he was posting again on this site, so just stop already. he only posted a reference once, and it was his last post, so if that's your aim, it's not working and it's getting annoying.

Anonymous said...

Are we officially calling the black team the "black stallions" now? I like it. Who are the other guys then? Knights in White Satin? Great White? The Great White Hype?

matt s said...

Help me understand the meaning of an unsung hero? I thought it was someone NOT mentioned. Someone who worked just as hard but doesn't get the stats or is the third person away from scoring that never gets the mention. Guys like Jonny brett or jared should never be mentioned as an unsung hero because you guys are always mentioned and are front runners in the play. I understand Rons point and agree.

Anonymous said...

One more thing. The guys on the power ranking aren't playing by themselves though sometimes it seems like it. They have to be getting the puck from someone and alot of these games are going very long which tells me that the D is doing a great job for the most part on both ends

John said...

Just a couple of other random thoughts...

I agree - unsung players are ones who do not get recognized frequently. That is why they are unsung.

Two, overall there has been a lot of improvement by quite a few players. I think that is part of the reason why we are seeing closer games (that and the teams have been pretty fair).

Three, to further up on my hubrus rant from last night, another player who has not gotten recognized each week by WPR is Nick. He was excellent two weeks ago and should have been number one or two on the list. He's arguably been the best defenseman this year so far. Granted, WPR is all for fun and should not be taken too seriously, but just figured I'd throw my two cents in.

John said...

One other thing...I forgot to bring the stat sheet with me today, so they will be delayed one more day.

Anonymous said...

it's pretty clear that a lot of guys that play take WPR, BB, & other opinions seriously.

Anonymous said...

Hey if you want to reach way, way back into your seldom used words vocabulary, that’s fine. Just try not to embarrass yourself my misspelling the word.

i don't know why anonymous dislikes the bible so much!

Anonymous said...

dont dislike it, but the quotes are coming way out of context and aren't applicable for what has been posted in a spirit of just poking fun.

John said...

Not to mention that if a person truly needs to hear the counsel from a particular verse, there is an arrangement for that. Anonymously posting a scripture on a website is kind of disrespectful toward that arrangement.

Anonymous said...

I agree, and I also dont think they are serious about it, obviously, which makes it annoying to boot. So please just stop, whoever you are.

Anonymous said...

On another topic, here's something I find funny:
Brett has only played 7 games this year, and look at how many people are still behind him in points:

Chris Y
Matt S
Joe N
Lee S
Jimmy
Danny
Shane
Lenny D
Jeff S
Brad D
Reggie
Cam C
Ronnie
Jack B
Luke C

Only a handlful of those guys played less games, but not by much. And Brett still has a 5 point lead over the next closest person! We don't expect guys like Lee or Chris who play D all the time to put up a lot of numbers, but I think this speaks volumes for guys like Brad, Lenny, and Reggie. They should be much higher on the list at this point in the season.

Anonymous said...

Here's another nugget for you (why isnt the stat guru doing this? have we lost him?):

Nick B has three, count em 3 game winners, to lead everyone. WOW. Who would have predicted that at the beginning of the season? Not even Nick, in all his bragging would have said that!

Anonymous said...

This blog is totally not the place to be putting up scriptures even if someone needs it

The fact that someone thinks it's even OK to put that on here says worlds about that person in few ways

The biggest would be not realizing how disrespectful it is

Anonymous said...

Jared said...

BB is embarrassed for the website over the uninteresting posts, and the fact that johnny cannot put the stats up.

So here is a brief overview of how snhl players are performing as compared to last season, and please everyone take this personal

Improved

Nick- getting faster
Dave- will he move back?
Brendon- early season tease
Ron- seems remotivated
Little Ron
Dale
Darrin- if billy's the better is darrin the best driscol?

Stabalized

Joe- having a solid year
Chris- offense slowly coming around
Jared- same 'ol same 'ol
griff-
Joel- where's he been?
Matt- didn't want him to be left out
jimmyN- ugh stabalized doesn't mean good though
Dane
Bradley- good for bradley
Lee

Declining

Johnny- made a decent case for himself, but still something missing.

Brett- plays better with 2 hands
Mike- looking to regain last years form
Steve- see above
Reggie-
JimmyC- unwise passes need to be fixed

well that's it for now let's wrap up with some questions shall we? Rematch for Saturday? Is there a singer that sings with more heart than Michael Aday? Will Nick ever figure out that he's never off the hook for recaps? Is brett playing saturday? How badly will his stats be affected? Is brendon reading this?

stayed tuned for a much too late real bb that no one will read cuz it's too late in the week.

Nick said...

is it possible to get faster? I thought speed cant be taught.

BB, recap is coming...Its all written just not typed.

Anonymous said...

what "jimmy" does BB dislike the most?

Brett said...

Johnny from just sitting on the bench and watching the games, you don't get back as much as you think you do. Yes more than Jared but don't go overbored with the whole back-checking aspect of your game. It does exist but not enough to be an excuse for your drop in goals. Just cause I'm not playing doesn't mean you should become the setup man now. You role is, and always will be, as a goal scorer.

There has been a good goalie for most weeks this year. Dale has been great. Ron is doing great. So you tell me JR, who have you been better than?

And Nick? He certainly wasn't even close to being or even acting like he knew how to play D last week. I lost count of how many times he went up the miidle with a pass and turned it over. Either way i do think He is in the top 2 defensemen(most weeks)

Brett said...

oh and Johnny, the one week you outplayed everyone was when 8 players showed.

And don't make me mad Johnny. I'll take rock band back.

Question. do you need the game itself anymore? i have it. I can bring it Sat.

Nick said...

i will say that i did make a few-not countless, Brett, but thanks-questionable passes up the middle. I showed lack of confidence in my winger to get it out on his own, and I tried make something else happen and I payed for that. For the most part it was rough week for me, but the adjustment has been made.

ok, let's get the focus off me and back on johnny.

Anonymous said...

I think Johnny's rein is over in Saugus.

Ron has people believing in him.

I've heard whispers of a revolt

John said...

Brett, first things first, yes I still need Rock Band 1, so please bring it Saturday. I had picked up the second one and we had a blast with that last night. I like the tracks from the first game though so please bring that this Saturday. We'll keep that separate from this discussion :)

Brett, go and make a case that each week that all of the players that you have listed played better than I did. Let's just take this week for example - really, Brendon and Darin played better than I did this week? Really? So we base that on what? Goals, nope have them beat. Points, nope, have them beat there. Defensive play? Scoring chances?

Listen, my intent is not to speak negatively about everyone else's game, so I am not going to continue to do so. As such I'm going to just leave it at this - let's just have Ron and Jared be captains from now on. I'm sure the White team would have won this past week if I was traded for Brendon or Darin as you indicated, so it shouldn't be too big of a deal letting other people pick the teams and having me get picked 6th or 7th.

One further point - if I've wanted to score goals, I could forget about setting guys up or playing defensively and simply try to run up and down the wing (only to the center line of course) and focus on shooting. Instead I've been playing in a way to help my team win. Would I like to have more goals right now? Absolutely. Do I feel as dominant as I could be? Not yet. But, for the most part my team has been winning, and to be honest, I'm actually scoring points at a better rate than last year.

tpj said...

i somewhat agree with johnny, you can't tell me wpr that the 5 best players were on dark team, if that were the case, we would have been swept and probably blown out all three games.

I'm here to stick up for my fellow wingers, we do the most running by far in saugus. let's put a odometer or whatever it is on me and you johnny and see you runs more! Granted we have the least amount of defensive responsibility, but the wingers do the forchecking and force turnovers that go to the center, yes you johnny, and give you scoring chances.

Your stats aren't down and neither are mine, but we definitely aren't playing our best hockey this year, which i'm sure you agree with.

Brett said...

WPR isn't about the 5 best that show up before the game. Thats BB.

WPR tells the story of those who had the biggest impact on the game.

Would i pick you, johnny, 7th after Darrin or Brendon? No cause your a top three pick every week. Just cause you produce most weeks.

But did Darrin's defense and 2nd assists cause his team to score bigger goals (and stop goals)in clutch situations? Yes.

Did Brendon forecheck and create his own opportunities all night, and put pressure on the D all night? Yes.

So they had a bigger impact for their team in their 2 wins, than you had in your 1 win, whether you had more goals or not. You weren't dominant. Not nearly as much as you were last year.

I remember when i first started playing i got ripped for yelling at players all the time. They didn't like it. Johnny don't take my spot. Yell at them after the game. It's more effective.(except Jimmy. Yell at him at every opportunity).

And your shot selection isn't what it was. The goals that go in off Jimmy don't work on Dave or Darrin or even Steve for the most part.

i suggest going back to your shoot only style. It worked last year why wouldn't it work this year. Make your teamate pass you the ball. You have the scoring touch. They don't

And Jared when you say you have the least defensive responsibility, you mean NO responsibility right?

Brett said...

and no, if you were traded for one of those players it changes the whole dynamic of each team. so you can't really say things like that. Don't live in the "what if"

matt s said...

You know Brett... since you are out for a while, maybe you SHOULD observe and be a constuctive critic for us. If you play that role everyone can get a better sense of what we don't see in our selves, then we can make adjustments. Instead of WPR we should have a CCC{ Contructive Critics Column}. Seriously! Take a pole!

John said...

Jared, I'm not saying you do not run, but your exact words to me last week were that you do not
want to play center since you cannot run back and play both ends of the floor - that you would
be non-effective since you'd be too winded.

Brett, last year you posted many times that I need to ratchet up the assists. Now this year
you're saying the complete opposite. Interesting. I would think this year more than last I would need to be more of a playmaker since I have not consistently had the wingers to be playmakers.

As for shot selection, I haven't had as many opportunities to shoot this year - that goes hand in hand with not getting the ball in good scoring positions on a regular basis. There were at least 2 or 3 plays that would have been goals if passes were made. And while I will yell at guys who I do not feel are hustling enough, or playing soft, or are just making stupid plays repeatedly, I will not yell at guys if they don't pass it to me. Whether to pass or not is up to the ballcarrier - they have to decide what to do on each individual play.

And as far as who I am scoring them against, last year the vast majority were scored against Steve, who was considered the best goalie last year (I scored 82 goals against him). I faced Jimmy far less - 26 were scored against him. Here are the numbers this year from the top 3:

John: 26 Goals
vs Dave - 10
vs Steve - 7
vs Jimmy - 5
vs Tony - 4

Jared: 28 Goals
vs Jack - 9
vs Dave - 8
vs Jimmy - 8
vs Darren - 3

Ron: 28 Goals
vs Steve - 12
vs Jimmy - 12
vs Jack - 4

The numbers show that goaltending has not been a factor for me.

One final thing, typically on different sports sites, Weekly Power Rankings are a ranking of who
played best in a particular week. If you are changing the definition of that then that's fine,
you are free to rank people how you want. Your rankings seem to be more of a "Who's hot" type
of listing though.

tpj said...

Ya i would be too winded because i probably wouldn't play the position correctly and be down low way too often. You play the center position correctly by usually not getting caught too deep and staying near the slot allowing you to get back. i'm not even sure what we're arguing about, hopefully everyone is just reading the newer blog.

Brett said...

Johnny, WPR wanted more assists with the same amount of goals. He never said he wanted less goals for more assists

Anonymous said...

and most of your goals off dave came on that 4 on 4 night. And you've faced him the most this year i believe.

brett said...

and yes you are right WPR isn't your typical wpr. but I think he's too established to change now.

But he has told me he's been thinking of upgrading to 10 each week, a typical wpr system might be too close to BB though. And he doesn't want to steal readers from BB's column. he has respect for BB and the hard work that goes into his post each week

Brett said...

johnny i think you'd agree there are certain times when you have teams where you should shoot more and teams where you can feel confident enough to pass it.

Without me there i don't think you should be so eager to pass. Not only because i can score, but because i can pass it back to you in a more opportune place for you to score.

And yes i'm implying that i'm way better than any other teamate Johnny has ever had

John said...

Actually, 5 goals were scored on Dave that game...the same amount as this past Sunday.

Anonymous said...

12 goals for ron against Jimmy? Very telling.
