I was right...

Ok, it bears repeating: I was right. It was an easy prediction, but I was right. History does back me up though. Every time you have a week with a huge crowd the week that follows is always much slower. It’s a phenomenon but it always happens; so it’s not really a phenomenon. But it does lead to a different aspect to the game. There is less subbing and more running. Two on ones’ are a common happening and Johnny never subs (also common). Needless to say, Mr. Mike Meadows is definitely out of commission for the rest of the week-we are all exhausted.

Quick Game Overview:

Game 1: 5-2 Final Score. White Team on top. This game was messy for the Dark Team. The Defense was out of sync (I’ll be honest I misspelled it the first time), Johnny and Ron couldn’t handle the offense by themselves. It was tough to watch. The Ron-less Jared, calm Griff, one handed Brett, coughing Mike and the “not himself” Brendon managed to squeak out enough offense for the win. Could it continue for the rest of the night?

Game 2: 5-1 Final Score in favor of the Dark Team. This was a major turn-around for the Dark team. The difference? Reggie. He not only gave the Dark team the sub they didn’t have in game one but he was also the third component Ron and Johnny needed to muster up some offense.

Game 3: 5-4 Final Score, Ron’s team with another win. MVP! MVP! Just kidding Ron, you got excited though. The best game of the night after two blow-outs. The game ended with another great slap shot by Ron, it was a laser. When will people learn that they need to stay on the shot? Easier said then done, but Ron was given at least 3 opportunities to get the game winner in the last minute. Unacceptable.

My Weekly Chat with the Scout:

Scout: What seems to be the problem officer?

Nick: Huh?

Scout: That went right over your head Nick. Why are you wearing sunglasses?

Nick: Oh, good joke. It’s in honor of Brendon. It’s a tribute of some kind. But I don’t feel like myself.

Scout: That’s a shame.

Nick: So, did you enjoy watching us play 4 on 4?

Scout: It’s fun to watch. In reality though, the team with the best technique doesn’t always win. The team that plays the toughest and has the most endurance seems to win.

Nick: Good decisions still matter though.

Scout: Obviously.

Nick: Wow. Tough Crowd. Of the missing who did you miss the most?

Scout: Who were you expecting?

Nick: Brad and Chris were sick. Matt S, D and P all bailed.

Scout: Little Ronnie. I missed him the most. He would have been a huge difference maker.

Nick: No doubt. Your thoughts on Joe in net?

Scout: He wasn’t the in his prime Joe.

Nick: Yeah, he didn’t flip a net.

Scout: Well that and his play wasn’t as impressive but he was still very solid. His solid technique allowed him to make up for any problems he may have been having.

Nick: Was John the only guy not to sub on either side?

Scout: Why must you focus on the negative? Let’s focus on his stamina abilities.

Nick: You are right. I shouldn’t have the “look for a fault” attitude that Brett has.

Scout: Yeah.

Nick: Did you notice that Reggie went by Brett a couple times?

Scout: Nick, that attitude is negative! We don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings.

Nick: No worries, Brett only responds if your comment is anonymous…it bothers him.

Well trying to play Sunday with what I thought was just a sore muscle in my neck / shoulder (which as the night went on greatly limited my ability to reach out with my stick & turn my head) ended up not being the best decision I've ever made.

Then add in getting completely wrecked on a CLEAR breakway and landing on that side.

Put those 2 things together and I ended up at the Dr's yesterday and got told I have torn left trapezia (shoulder blade) which has thrown the muscle into complete spasm leaving me limited (really limited) head movement and limited movement of my left arm.

I'm on powerful muscle relaxers, anti-inflamtories, and pain killers. I'm out of work per Dr's orders until at least Thursday and was told I'm prolly gonna have to do therapy.

So unless all those pills cure me quickly, I'm most likely out at LEAST this week.

Brett said...

Johnny, did you really factor in all but one of the goals for sunday?

John said...

No, I didn't. It was only 9 of the 12 that we scored.

Mike, I hope you recover quickly.

BTW, with Mike, Chris, Ron, and possibly Lee all out for this week, I want to make sure that we will have enough guys to play.

Figuring Steve and either my father or Darren in net we would likely have: me, Nick, Brad, Brendon, Jared, Griff, Brett, Joe. Other players I think could be likely are Dale, Matt S, Mike M, Joel, Matt Davis, Reggie. With just a couple of the likely guys we should be all set, but I would like to make sure ahead of time before booking the rink.

If you are planning on playing this week then either post here, or call / text / email me.

Brett is the real wimp. Play with both hands. Wimp.

If Brendon's right eye was injured instead of his left, would that mean he could only play defense and no offense?

Brendon doubled his "classic" moments just in one night.

Anonymous said...

you mean he actually said he couldn't play defense because his eye was hurt?

Don't act like you weren't there, anonymous. It's so obvious from your message that you were there.

wpr!!!!

Anonymous said...

WPR is now a joke. There's no difference between WPR and BigBoard. It's a 1-10 ranking system that puts everybody in line with how good they think they are compared to everyone else.

At least the old WPR told us who was the best that week. The #1 spot could have gone to anybody, if they played well enough to deserve it. The way WPR does it now is no better than BigBoard because now only a select few players will ever get an opportunity to be #1 or #2 or even #3.

Who's going to pass John, Jared, Ron or Brett to the top spots? No one, because no one will ever get ranked that high. Maybe one week someone will get #4, especially if Brett is still not healthy, but the point is that the old WPR gave the unsung heros an opportunity to be #1 for one week.

Not anymore. Now one week of playing great just won't cut it. You have to now earn a spot above Jared and John and Ron. As long as they show up, I don't see anyone getting placed above them, no matter what happens that particular week.

BigBoard and WPR should just combine into one now, since there really is no difference between them now. Just different opinions really.

Brett said...

incorrect anonymous.

The WPR is based on how a person plays according to what is expected from them. Therefore, if Johnny , Jared and Ron continue to have par performances, then anyone can string together above average performances and rise to the top. It's actually harder for them to stay at the top cause the expectations are so high

It's just that no one has tried to challenge them. No one has tried to raise their game to the next level. But I'm sure someone will by seasons end.

How many times was someone else #1 last year during the old ranking system?

Anonymous said...

i think the only way to see this wpr is to put out another blog.

Anonymous said...

WPR this how you ranked everyone last week

10 Reginald
9 Steve
8 Mike M
7 Mike D
6 Ryan (+1)
5 Joe (+1)
4 Brendon (E)
3 John (-2)
2 Ron (E)
1 Jared (+2)

If it is truly based on weekly performance and expectations how did John end up in the top 3? If I remember correctly Brendon had as many points as John. Thats either John having a bad week or Brendon having a good one, so how could Brendon not end up higher than John? Is Brendon expected to equal Johns point totals? Also Ron didn't exactly have his typical week, so how did he stay even? I think Mike D had 8 or 9 points on the night which was only equaled by Jared. Now he did move up the list, but shouldn't he have moved up to the top 3 or 5 seeing that based on expectation and weekly performance he did much better than expectations?

Brett said...

no! cause you can't go from last to first with one fluke week. That's why i said you have to string together a bunch of good weeks.

Johnny moved down 2 spots cause you're right, he had an off week. But that doesn't shoot him down to the bottom. Where i expect Brendon to get 4 points on average at least so he stayed even.

like was mentioned in the thread "NEW RANKING SYSTEM", it takes into account previous weeks. So Mike D moved up 4 spots which is a big climb in just one week.

you're still stuck in the old ranking mentality where, you're right, mike d. would have been top 3. But in the new one you have to earn your way to the top.

Brett said...

in all reality though, your first statement was correct. It is all a joke.

Except to Mike M. He thinks it's a true honor to make the WPR. He tells his whole family when he makes the list. Can't imagine what he'd do if he ever made #1

Anonymous said...

and you cant earn your way to the top in one week, right?

so this really does change things. There's no longer a way to show who the #1 star was that week. Thats why it is basically the same as BB now.

Nick said...

im in...but you already assumed that...

i need to be less consistent

Anonymous said...

In line with my first comment about BigBoard and WPR being the same, I think someone else should now step up and do a weekly ranking - 5 stars or something.

Nick: I nominate you for this task since you are so consistent and always there.

Ron said...

I'm just curious, why doesn't anonymous post with his own name?

Come on out! The light will do you some good :)

brett said...

he's not in the dark Ron, he's in the closet.

BB is like a weekly fantasy draft for the future. WPR is still based on weekly performance. and it's reflected in whether a person moves up or down in the rankings.

I personally like the old way. But people always complained that it was the same people always at the top. Cause odds are that Jared, Johnny or me would have a good week and beat out everyone for the top spots.

Brett said...

i feel bad for the writer(s) of WPR. He's just trying to give the people what they want.

Haven't you been back only like a week or so (that's if you want to count a 4 on 4) those don't look like really good odds!

Brett said...

i was referring to the old system when i said that. read the post carefully before making a counter point.

open to suggestions said...

Not sure what to call this yet, so open to suggestions

This is strickly based on the past weeks performance / total points / importance of those points / whole team performance

example of importance of points: some who gets 4 points on the night but wins 2 out of 3 games could out rank someone who got 8 points, but lost 2 out of 3 games. Reason - even though they got 8 points they lost 2 games

Ok here goes

Nick & Griff both only got 1 point on the night. Nick is picked more as a defensive force and any points he gets is just a bonus, but Griff, who gets picked higher -usually by Jared - we expect more out of.

Brendon got 3 points on the night which is becoming the norm for him. He was able to do his dump & chase a little more because of the extra room playing 4 on 4. He hustled hard, but still lost 2 games.

8 - Griff
7 - Brendon
6 - Nick / Reggie

Mike D & Brett both had 4 points on the night. Brett obviously has a disadvantage because of his hand, but it has also come to light that Mike was playing injured as well, which could now keep him sidelined for a bit. I'm not saying the unjuries are the same by any means. Because Mike's team won 2 out 3 games his 4 points were more valuable.

5 - Brett
4 - Mike D

Jared & Ron both had 8 points on the night. Again Ron's team won 2 out 3 so his points were more valuable. Jared might want to rethink his picking Griff over other players.

3 - Jared
2 - Ron

John will sit alone at number 1 this week

cyoung said...

Suggestion... How about ranking Offense and defense as two seperate Rankings
Top 5 defenders with Honorable mention
Top 5 offensive players with honorable mention.

The current rankings seem to overlook players who play hard on D but their teams fail to win.

That way it doesn't seem as if this blog is geared towards scoring goals only!

Just my observation and suggestion!

Let me know what you all think, but post your names will ya!

Anonymous said...

More than one person is posting as anonymous, obviously.

Ron, even if one person posted their name instead of anonymous, there would still be more no-name posts.

So you really are asking all people to stop posting anonymously, aren't you?

If that's the case, then you could say that you are arguing for a rule that all people should be logged-in in order to post on this site. We tried that once, and no one liked it, remember? So we went back to allowing anonymous posts.

Looks like you'll just have to guess who's who.

Ron said...

I don't care that people post anonymously. I do it too.

It's just that old No-Name, as I called him, had some strong opinions and I just wanted to know who it was.

It's no big deal, if he can't post the same heat with his name, then we can call him something else.

Either way, its all good... well that's subjective :)

Anonymous said...

except that there were multiple people posting as anonymous, and I think that many opinions might have gotten confused for one single person. It's not always easy to see what Mr anonymous's opinion is because the next anon post could be coming from someone else.

Anonymous said...

what?

Anonymous said...

really? Mike's 4 points are more impressive then Brett's? On a night where it's only 4 on 4 Mike still can't put the puck in the net more than 2 times. and he still got beat by every player that came his way, even by the one handed freak.

Anonymous said...

Wait, are we all the same person or different Anonymous people?

Anonymous said...

it said had more value, not more impressive, learn to read.

Anonymous said...

same, but i like to argue with myself

cyoung said...

Ok no one responded to my posting for both defensive and offensive stats.

maybe that's why people post anonymously because they know they will get a response, as opposed to posting your name and getting nothing!!!!

HELLOOOOO anyone!!!

i know what i typed idiot. I'm anonymous. What i meant when i wrote that was who's points were more impressive and important at the same time. The fact still remains that mike only had 4 points on a night where he should have had 6 or 7. The only points that are more valuable than any other is the game winner

Anonymous said...

don't call your self an idiot

Anonymous said...

i'll call myself whatever i want

Anonymous said...

i disagree. A gamewinner is valuable, but conside this:

which is more valuable, a gamewinner when it is 5-0?

Or the 4th goal that ties the game at 4-4 when you were losing 4-3?

Obviously, the latter is more valuable than some gamewinners, especially if that was the one that changed momentum and made the comeback possible, assuming you did end up winning that game. Don't you agree?

Anonymous said...

yes but if you tie it at 4-4 then lose 5-4 that tying goal means nothing.

And if you get the winning goal then that game winner is still more valuable than the tying goal

Anonymous said...

I know. What I said was that the 4-4 goal was more valuable than the 5-0 GW as long as you win the game.

Right?

Anonymous said...

The point I was trying to make here is that SOME non-game-winners are MORE valuable than SOME game-winners.

Agree?

Anonymous said...

the point is whose points are more valuable, the person on the winning team or the person on the loosing team? You can't tell me that when a team has lost that the points scored for that team are more important than the persons point on the team that won.

Anonymous said...

a game winner is always the most important no if ands or butts.

you can't determine what points are more valuable than others just by wins and loses. There's no formula for that.

Why did A-rod win the MVP if his HRs and RBIs meant less cause they lost alot of games.

or Ovi got the MVP even though his team came in 8th place

Anonymous said...

Yes, I agree, if they LOSE, then it's not as valuable. What I am saying is that:

Given the condition that the game is ultimately WON: A goal scored at 4-3, to tie the game at 4-4 is more valuable than:

ANY game-winning goal when it is a blowout (5-0). Or 5-1 for that matter. etc.

Why? Because a blowout is a blowout. a 5-0 Gamewinner isn't that big of a deal. But when youre in a dogfight, and you have to make a comeback, a game-tying goal (4-4) is HUGE if your team does win, and therefore more valubale than the gamewinner in the blowout.

Is that clearer?

Anonymous said...

how is a game that's won, of any less importance than another? a win is a win no matter what the score is

Anonymous said...

well technically if the finally score is 5-2, the actually game winner is goal 3

Ron said...

Ok you goof balls... I mean hockey balls.

Some clarification is in order.

let's say the game ends at 5-2.

Guess who should be credited with the game winner by real hockey statistics?

You guessed it. Its the guy that scored goal 3.

It's not a big deal, but lends to that point about the value of the so-called 5th goal being counted as the game winner when the game is 5-1 or something.

"PPP" the Professor said...

My fan mail has been decreasing lately. I guess my personal assistants don’t have the mesmerizing abilities that the Big Kahuna has.

Time to reinvent myself. The new acronym for PPP is now, the Professors Power Philosophies

For your viewing pleasure, here are some up to the minute player evaluations as the Professor see’s it.

Reggie- Shows some real stick handling skills and has great upside. He would dominate much more if he could get in better shape and of course play more regularly. Reggie should try to use that big body more to his advantage, especially down low in the offensive corners.

Griff- Can be overly aggressive with the stick. He has great body positioning offensively and defensively, so the hack attack is just over kill . Griff moves around and finds the open spaces. He also has decent stick handling ability, which increases his value in any draft. Could benefit from a more accurate shot from inside and outside of the slot.

Nick- Has improved a lot in the last 3 years. Plays a great physical style and position on Defense. His shot from the point is just ok, but it should continue to get better. The biggest area Nick needs to improve on is his ball handling skills. He must improve this critical skill to be considered a high value draft pick.

Chris Y- His biggest asset is his athletic ability and determination to get better. He shows good hockey instincts (anticipating plays and where to be). Chris needs to work on passing skills the most. I would put the shot in 2 ND place. My suggestion would be sometime during the 30 minutes of warm-ups, get a partner and stand 25' apart passing back and forth like 50 times.

Brendon- He does something better than most everyone else. You know what that is? He goes to the net! He is always sniffing around for loose balls or is open for a pass. He gets beat up for his unusually long stick and his lack of stick handling. He makes up for these with hustle and grit. The wind-mill style slap shot is good (when he gets it off). Brendons biggest area of improvement should be his passing ability and stick handling.

Mike D- His game starts with being in the middle of the action. When he’s involved he finds a way to contribute. He will give up on the shot for a pass to an open teammate. An unselfish player has a spot on any starting lineup. He seems to pride himself with shadowing the best opposing centerman, which to his credit does a good job of. His shot is ok. Mike’s stick handling skills need to be improved the most.

Matthew- Don’t have a lot of tape to make a full evaluation. However, he has a physical presence that doesn’t go unnoticed. He plays good position while on D or O. I think his shot could use the most work.

Bradley- He plays decent position while on D and can bang around a little bit in the corners. Brad needs to learn to look up before making a pass. If under extreme pressure, then hard up the boards is the only other option. He passes ok in the offensive zone, but like some of the others, Brad needs to improve stick handling and shooting.

Lenny D- Needs to show up for starters. When he’s there he contributes to his team’s success. Receives the pass on the point pretty well and can get the shot off.

Johnny, Jared, Brett and Ron need to be taken down a notch. This can be done if you guys work on improving each and every week.

I'm looking forward to welcoming Ron and his family at my ocean side villa in Hawaii. Have a safe trip old friend!!!

Jared said...

Guess whose back, back again, okay so BB may be slipping with these unexcused absenses, but here we are, at the quarter poll of the 09/10 season, and this sentence, which is running on way too long. Phew, glad that's over. Anyways here's your top ten for sunday, followed by a personal grade out of 100 for their performance.

On we go!

1. Ron- Haven't heard full confirmation he's out for sunday, rumors are he cancels his entire trip in order to remain on top. Tied for the lead in goals and how about 2nd in winning percentage, trailing only medium ronnie. A little slip the past 2 weeks drops him down to a 94 overall.

2. Johnny- A nice winning percentage and the points are there again this season give johnny the number two spot. There was definately something missing early in the season but he's firing on all cylindars now. And I have two squigly red lines, now three, thanks to my awful spelling. 90 for johnny.

3. Jared- Goals are there, he's playing well, but that winning % in atrocious. Maybe the removal of being team captain would do him some good. overall a solid 88.

4. Brett- He's close to being good again, his shot makes me uncomfortable, but i expect greatthings. looking at a 75.

5. Joe- saugus' top defensemen showed he can play a little goalie too. Great season for Joe and an 88

6. Nick- if it wasn't for that 1 terrible week when nick thought he could play offense, it would be a great start, so for that he gets an 82.

7. Griff- People think they're better than griff cuz they try harder, but they aren't. sooooo ya he still gets an 79.

8. Brendon- considering he was stricken with blindness he's played fantastic. 99 go brendon.

9. MikeD- I like what i'm seeing out of mike, some weeks, i like his hustle, i want him to go back to being a great defenseman. 76 overall.

10. Steve- Steve is my favorite person in saugus. He's not the same goalie as last year, but he's getting there again. I root for steve and he gets a solid 85.

Weekly Power Rankings said...

10 Brett - Would probably rank 5th if the old system was in place, but he has to earn his way to the top in this WPR. Playing with one good hand isn’t a good enough sympathy story to earn brownie points. And seeing as he couldn’t shoot probably kept him down here. Although he was his teams second leading scorer.

9 Mike D (-2) - If Brett isn’t getting sympathy, then you definitely aren’t. Trying to steal Ron’s goal even though we all knew it was already in? Very unsportsmanlike!! If only you punched Brendon in the face for him tripping you, then you would have stayed in the 7 spot.

8 Brendon (-4)* - Let the excuses fly!! How does an eye lid, that doesn’t block the iris or the pupil, stop someone from seeing? IT DOESN’T!! I’ve never heard of someone so desperate not to play defense, so as to lie and say that he can only play offense cause his left eye lid was a tad bit swollen. Not to mention the fact that there were only 5 guys a side. WPR is very disappointed, and is regretting ever saying nice things for Brendon’s past performances. I’ll have to stop there. I could go on for pages about Brendon’s past week. One good thing… he hustled……. till he was benched in game 3.

7 Mike M (+1) - He basically moved up cause Mike D and Brendon moved down and I can’t rank someone in the 8.1 spot. Still he was in position on D most of the time…. Oh except when he went for a line change while the Dark team was dominating in the offensive zone. Good thing they didn’t score or else Brendon might have been above you this week

6 Reggie (+4)* - Who is Reggie gonna add to his list of casualties next week? This week he picked on Brett, speeding past him and finishing with a goal. Apparently Brett needs his hands to run just as much as Brendon needs his left eye lid to play defense. Reggie showed up late and that negated the only advantage the white team had (having the extra sub). He was fresh off the bench.

5 Joe (E) - He definitely had to make more stops than he should have. But with a 4 on 4 what do you expect. It’s tough to rank a player when he plays a different position from the week before, but he did keep them in the game. Joe just wasn’t as effective as he is on defense. WPR still thinks he should have saved Ron’s winning goal.

4 Griff (+2) - You know how people tend to play less defense and try less as the night goes on? Well it was just the opposite for Ryan. He definitely stopped trying a few times in game 2. But whether he wants to admit it or not, Jared making fun of him made him try harder. Ryan was the only one hustling back on D at the end of game 3.

3 John (E) - It’s tough to climb back up the rankings after having an off week. And trying to do it on a week with only 10 players is even tougher. The thing that will continue to hinder Johnny from the top spot is his selfishness. No I’m not talking about passing. He’s done a fine job finding the open man. I’m talking about subbing. I guess you could look at it as a good thing this past week with so few guys, but let’s try to break that habit JR. Together we can accomplish anything.

2 Ron (E) - Not only did he not care about Brett’s crippled hand as he proceeded to play aggressive D on him and slam his stick, but he scored another game winner. No matter how close the defender is, he will still find a way to let that slap shot go.

1 Jared (2 weeks running) - Basically the only offenseman they had all night with Brendon helping very little and Brett missing the net on almost every shot. Jared was the only reason the white team came back from a 4-0 deficit in game 3 to make it 4-4. A valiant effort from the #2 ranked player from Saugus of all-time. Oh and did you see his kick save?!

Still off the Radar:

Nick - 1 goal? Come on!

W.M.V.P.R said...

MVPs aren't always the players who get the most points or wins. So you can't just say that someone was more important cause they had more wins(although it does help a little). Basically the rankings are the weekly MVP rankings. And so without further a due I give you the inaugural: WEEKLY M.V.P. RANKINGS!! Or W.M.V.P.R. This is what the first WPR should have been called.

5 Brett - He should have had 4 more goals and I’m sure he would have with 2 good hands. The fact is that he still was able to create his own chances with one good hand and his speed on offense was still tough to guard. And with Ron gone, look for Brett to return to the #1 pick as long as he keeps going to therapy this week.

4 Reggie - Nice to see him making it consecutive weeks. His defense was flawless and his offense was as impressive as last week. Reggie could be the dark horse this year for the team he’s on. Kinda like how Brendon was last year.

3 Ron - With 6 game winners already in this young season Ron has shown he is a force to be reckoned with. We will all miss him while he’s gone, have a safe trip and return.

2 Jared - Jared had few weapons to work with as he was the only young gun that was functioning on his team in Sunday’s war at Saugus. He tried his hardest to no avail. He should still be proud of his performance.

1 John - Back to his rightful spot on a weekly list of any sort. Early in the season John was beatable. John has tweaked his game and his approach to the game and is now ready to go on a torrent winning streak.

With two different rankings in 1 post a player could be on both lists.

What are the chances that Jared would ever make both the offense and defense list?

Hey Chris, a special top 5 defensemen just for you. Sorry Griff and mike, not enough time spent on d this year.

1. Joe- It's not really a race currently for the top spot, and Joe still has plenty of room for improvement once he gets an accurate shot.

2. Nick- Everything you want in a defensemen, will rarely lose you a game.

3. Chris- PPP said it perfect for chris so you can just reread that post.

4. Matt S- Needs to play more, but definately shows speed and good hockey skills

5. Lee- Other defensemen need to look how lee takes a wrist shot on net from the point, the wingers really appreciate it.

Top 5 guys I want to see make a full time switch to D.

1. Dale- Good shot, fast, and has forgotten more hockey than Nick will ever know.

2. Mike D- Hustle and grit makes him a good defensmen

3. Darrin- if he's not in net i want him on D. Great ball skills and smart plays will discourage forcheckers.

4. Ron- #4 only cuz i want him on wing more, but for any future "alliance teams" perhaps thinking about starting with good defense may be a wise decision. Good forwards are useless without defense and goaltending.

5. Mike M- Maybe he won't hurt himself every week if he stays on D. Plus he does a good mug job on johnny when he tries to get around him.

Brett / WPR, I never asked for sympathy & Ron shot did not go in, if I did I would have said it did.
It went under joe and hit the post and just sat there spinning and I tapped it in.

In keeping with the trend of listing things in order of their respective value, here is...

CEREAL POWER RANKINGS!

1. HONEY BUNCHES OF OATS (WITH ALMONDS) - It has sweet granola, sliced almonds and not one but two kinds of flakes! It leads the pack not only for its greal taste, but for it's superb texture as well.

2. HONEY NUT CHEERIOS - Sure, an old standby, but what it lacks in excitement, it makes up for in nutrition! You get your fiber, your whole grain, and the sweet and crunchy taste we all love.

3. RICE KRISPIES - A simple but delicious start to the day. Goes well with many different types of sliced fruit and its resistance to sogginess is top notch.

4. CRISPIX - Are you serious?! Think about it, it's a corn cereal. Now flip it around, it's a rice cereal! What?! Is this happening!? Now try it. AAAAAAAhh! AWESOME!

5. CINNAMON TOAST CRUNCH - It is a delicious cereal that mimics another breakfast treat. In your face Cookie Crisp! Just kidding, we love you Cookie Crisp.

mike everyone saw the ball go in except for you. it had already trickled over the line.

tpj said...

how does captain crunch with crunch berries not make top 5?

Anonymous said...

Although I'm not the author of this very relevant ranking of TOP CEREALS and do have authority to speak on the subject.

My credentials are this: I attend the coo coo for coco puffs annual convention to put coco puffs in the TOP 10.

Captain Crunch is always there too lobbying for position.

On a side note. Captain Crunch is really short but extremely feisty and persuasive.

Anyways, back to the point. The problem is that these other cereal guys have great TASTE but too much sugar and not enough FIBER.

Apparently the board of directors are big fans of easy passage both on the way IN and especially on the way OUT.

So what can you do.... Hi Fiber is Hot Right Now.

i like shredded wheat in the morning. And then a great big bowl of grape nuts for lunch.

Mike D said...

After he shot it someone yelled - did it go in, I looked down and it was spinning at the post on the line, so I smacked it in.

If it went in and came back out & "everyone" saw it give the goal to Ron,it's not like i sat there a argued about it

Anonymous said...

are you that desparate for goals mike?

Anonymous said...

Mike, stay on topic. Cereals only.

cyoung said...

Fruity Pebbles????..... How bout some defensive cereals

Special K
Grits
Oatmeal, not flavored
Puffed Rice

or should these be offensive???

Anonymous said...

can it only be cereals or is it open for all breakfast foods?

Mike, I can't remember how many times this year alone I have heard "I tipped it" after a goal was scored and the person who shot it just shakes their head and walks away.

Not everyone is going to argue with you on the ice but honestly, how many of your goals have been "tipped" in by you after a great shot from someone else?

WPR brought it up but you made it out to be a bigger issue. If you have 13 goals this year, I think at least 5 or 6 of those were phantom tip-ins by my best guess.

If you are going to claim a tip that no one else saw, then you're going to have the goalie or someone else on the other team agree with you for it to count from now on.

We don't have officials, or instant replay, so if the other team can back you up then fine. But if it's just you who says it, you aren't getting the phantom goal any more.

Anonymous said...

That's a good policy. Why didn't we ever enforce that before? If someone claims a tip, or puts a puck in the net after a question of whether the first shot went in or not, then we should let the other team decide if it is a first goal or if someone tipped it in.

Anonymous said...

Not to mention, in the case of someone claiming that they tipped it, it takes an assist away from the person who passed it to the shooter.

Anonymous said...

maybe mike just has incredible hand eye coordination

kind of interesting said...

it's hysterical reading one "brother" accusing another "brother" of "claiming" phantom goals and then to read another "brother" say that if someone "claims" a tip in goal someone esle has to verify it.

Anonymous said...

but we do have disagreements, even though we are all brothers.

A third party is the only way to resolve them scripturally.

Or didn't you know that?

Anonymous said...

but why are you disagreeing with your "brother"? do you not take your "brother" at his word?

Anonymous said...

so is questioning your "brother" publicly on a blog under an anonymous post the scriptual way?
Please enlighten me

tpj said...

stop using quotation marks for brother and stop counseling us on a stupid website!!!

Where's johnny to demean you for sounding foolish?

Anonymous said...

since we're all brothers we shouldn't be playing hockey verse each other in a competitive spirit.

We should all just take break aways on open nets for 2 hours so that we can truely act like christians and not have any controversy

Anonymous said...

Is JB gracing the website again?

Anonymous said...

yeah, maybe. I thought I detected his presence too.

John said...

Sorry, I was away all day...Mike definitely should get credit for the goal. I saw him knock it in. IMO it would have gone in anyway, but he was the last one to touch it, so the goal was his.

As for needing to verify a goal, there's no need. If Mike or somebody says they scored it, then we take them at their word. There is no need to insinuate that somebody is not telling the truth. Use some common sense people.

Nick said...

“Common sense is not so common.”

Nick said...

I see no mention of honey nut cheereos!!!!

So Mike, what hurts more the injury or Anonymous accussing you of stat pumping?

You will say the injury...but we all know the truth. Lol.

Nick said...

btw, johnny i dont see any insinuation, it's blatant that people are calling Mike a stat pumper.

And WPR, you have several guys that make your list and you destroy them (brendon and mike especially). Its unreal. You just like to rip people. Stop ranking people on their good qualities, that's not your strong point. A weekly worst would be better for you.

Nick said...

one other thing, (can you tell that have wanted to respond) why is it a negative thing that Griff only had one goal? Do you guys realize that one guy still has to stand at the center line and protect against a very likely two on one? For the most part, that was Griff...of course he didnt have many scoring opps! Someone has to protect the goalie....idiots.

BTW, you can put my name in for Griff too.. :)

Nick, it ranked 2nd this week in the Cereal Power Rankings. I'll let it slide, but let this be a lesson to all of you: read the cereal rankings before you complain about omissions.

new rules said...

New hockey rule changes...

1- If a player shoots the puck, and it is tipped in by another player, and the shot would not have been a goal unless tipped, both the tipper and tippee will recieve one point each.

2- If a player shoots the puck, and it is tipped in by another player, and the shot would have been a goal anyway, the shooter will recieve one point. The tipper will recieve a point with an asterisk known as a "phantom point".

3- Phantom points will be worth two thirds of a standard point and will be awarded only after a conference between the original shooter, the goalie scored upon, and any other player (other than the tipper) within a four foot radius of the post closest to the goal.

4- Phantom points may increase from a two thirds value to a three fifths value if the tipper is willing to pour the contents of a water bottle on his head. This is called an "Aquatic Phantom".

5- If the tipper is the first one on the field of play to claim the tip, they will be deducted one point on the stat sheet. In addition, the scoring leader on their team will also be deducted a point on the stat sheet.

6- At the end of the season, phantom points will be rounded down to the nearest zero.

Nick said...

"Phantom points may increase from a two thirds value to a three fifths value"

increase?

2/3=67%

3/5=60%

Anonymous said...

nick why did you sign in then sign out and post again?

maybe it's not you.

Anonymous said...

and WPR didn't say anything bad about Griff.

Anonymous said...

"I see no mention of honey nut cheereos!!!!"

Nobody's perfect.

Rule correction said...

Rule correction:

"Three fifths" should read as "four fifths". Please amend this in your own hockey handbill.

4- Phantom points may increase from a two thirds value to a four fifths value if the tipper is willing to pour the contents of a water bottle on his head. This is called an "Aquatic Phantom".

John said...

Yeah, no way I'm bothering to keep track of "phantom points". Someone else can take that on if they want.

Top 5 cereals:

5. Frosted Mini-Wheats
4. Cinnamon Life
3. Cracklin Oat Bran
2. Cinnamon Toast Crunch
1. Peanut Butter Captain Crunch

we should start doing penalty shots.

Anonymous said...

who has the final word on if it qualifies as a penalty shot or not? when I was watching a hockey game the other night the refs called a slashing call on someone who slashed the opposing players stick. I had never seen that call before.

Anonymous said...

"According to NHL rules, various infractions during a breakaway that can lead to a penalty shot being awarded include...a defending player using a stick or any other part of his body to interfere with the attacking player... or any other foul committed against the attacking player from behind. "

Wow, look at what I've missed. I am pretty much fully recovered from my two month ankle and knee injury, so I will be there this week. Yes, you guys will once again be treated to huffing and puffing, not getting to the point, yelling SHUT UP to the bench and me being a non-factor most of the time. I can't wait to not be listed in all these rankings! :)
