Hockey on Sunday, 5:45 (Outdoor Rink)
Hey guys,
Yes, we are playing at six, but there is a group after us at 8 so we need to make sure that we start on time. Jared and I will be there before 5:45 to pick up teams, so let's make sure we can start before 6.
Haven't heard from: Ron, Mike W, Joe, Mike D, Billy, Matt S (might not be in condition to play but we want an update!), Dale, Newburyport crew, Lenny, Steve P, Micah.
He's doing really good, that eye is currently at 20/30 vision & is a little over dialated.
He goes back every few days to have fiberglass splinters removed from his eye. He said the splinters came off the stick and logged in his eye. His eye/body will gradually expell the foreign object (fiberglass) which is why he goes back every few days to have them pulled out.
He's back working and didn't seem any worse for the wear and wants to come back
I'm glad to hear about Matt. I may not play this week because of the start time, but, mainly because of my hamstring. I didn't stretch before the other game last week and was thrown into the game and pulled it half way through, but, kept playing. I am feeling it now. I never pull hamstrings. First time.
brendon, I read this tonight, because I hadnt really read this last weeks material:
" (presumably someone was covering from him, if not he was way out of his position)."
This was you speaking of my goal..
You're an idiot. And I say that as nicely as possible-lack of a better term? Maybe. If a defenseman goes up, it is not on him for someone to back him up. Why cant you get that through your skull!!!! UGHH!!!
"Nick, if you agree with Johnny, then next week you play center and I'll play D. Sound fair? Let's see how many points you get while still playing defensive. I don't think you can do nearly as good a job at center as I did last Sunday. I can't say it any more clearly than that"
Brendon you are right I wouldnt do as well. I dont think you'd be able to make me good passess out of zone.
Meeting was cancelled in Salem. Although you wouldn't know because Jack (our group overseer) didn't call us so we waited at meeting for like 40 minutes and no one showed up. Yaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS I am not playing outside because it will be sooo slippery. We need to play inside or I am out!
Oh and Brendon is probably out since he hurt his "calf" last night at b ball. I am guessing since he laid on the court for like 10 minutes he is too "hurt" for hockey.
ya hockey is on we have guys. The court isn't as bad with rain anymore because they redid the tarp and the slick floor came from the frozen ground melting underneed the surface. So let's take off our skirts, put on some pants and play some hockey! Darrin you're in too so see you all tonight.
If the D is carrying the ball and they clearly have a lane to carry it into to the zone it is the wingers responsibility to realize this and fall back and cover.
The D should not have to second guess his decision
My bad on missing last night, I fell asleep and by the time I woke up - hockey was half over
If a defenseman decides to "wander" a bit, and gets out of position then they are absolutely at fault. Let's say the defenseman pinches in down to the faceoff circle without ensuring that anyone can cover for them: he is at fault there's an odd man rush.
On the other hand, if the defenseman is carrying the puck, or if he is trying to pinch in and another forward is back to where he can cover, then it's his responsibility to cover for the defenseman.
Basically everyone needs to play as a team. Forwards recognizing when there is a chance for the D to rush or pinch in. Defensemen being responsible and not taking chances without knowing that he has help.
Yes, but a forward will also need to be aware to know when they need to cover as a D might not be able to say: "I'm taking this rush"...communication is good, but hockey sense is very important.

Chris, nice to have you back this week btw...
Looking forward to it.
I actually saw Matt the other day.
You can't even tell when you look at him.

dale you should talk with brendon, he knows a lot about hamstrings.
:)
That's great news to hear about Matt...hey Matt, let us know if you're still reading the blog!
I"m planning on playing tomorrow
Do you think the outdoor floor will be slick with all the rain
I don't think it will be too bad since it won't be as cold as at other times, but obviously there's no way to know until tomorrow.
john, I want you down there tonight, and all day on sunday giving us constant updates on turf conditions...that's your job!
GO!
captains this week:
Brendon: The greatest center in the history of centers
V.S.
Nick: The player who can not score without the great Brendon Martino watching over his every move.

saugus legend v.s. the inferior center.
"I dont want to ruin my stick" v.s "why does john like your play better??? wahh!"

Im done!
Nope, Im not done.

Hahaha...couldnt resist that one. lol.
dale post your website.
BTW, as of now we are still on.
hey John
do you still need a goalie?
darrin he's at his meeting still i'll have him call you after
Meeting was cancelled in Salem. Although you wouldn't know because Jack (our group overseer) didn't call us so we waited at meeting for like 40 minutes and no one showed up. Yaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and Brendon is probably out since he hurt his "calf" last night at b ball. I am guessing since he laid on the court for like 10 minutes he is too "hurt" for hockey.
griff, we both know that means nothing...
And what time did you get to the meeting? If only you had a G.O like scott dearden.
Johnny i am out this week sorry for last min
soooo...are we still on now?
Griff you are playing...
I'm sure Brendon will just electrical tape his calf up and he'll be fine for hockey
He did attempt the tape but it was a no go!

Griffs back in he just wanted to start complaining early tonight.
anyone hear anything on Joe?
What about Joe? If he's in?
Is your brother in net tonight?
steve isnt his brother.
brother-in-law.
is brett in???
oh yeah...all right. take it easy baby...make it last all night...
I HATE JARED MEADOWS
I HAVE A MAN CRUSH ON JARED MEADOWS!
haha i have a man crush on me too. go me. Griff you should've stayed
you said that if a defenseman goes up its only a good move if someone covers for him and stays back.
Its not on the defenseman to "make sure" someone stays back. It's on the wingers to take note. That's all im saying....
sorry for the name calling :)
he has to assume someone will cover. What's he gonna do? yell out "cover me" everytime he goes in?
no brett, I should take the ball, hold it and yell to a winger "I think Im going to take it up"
hey guys
Looks like stats later in the week.
Hopefully a Recap tonight.
If the D is carrying the ball and they clearly have a lane to carry it into to the zone it is the wingers responsibility to realize this and fall back and cover.
The D should not have to second guess his decision
My bad on missing last night, I fell asleep and by the time I woke up - hockey was half over
Mike I was going to make fun of your excuse but you backed me up, soooo....no big deal!
oh you can still make fun of it.
When I woke up I looked at my watch (which i hadn't set ahead yet) and started rushing around and then noticed what time it really was
and on your point - there is no real other way to look at it
lol.
well, there is brendon's way.
Sorry guys, I'll try to have the stats tomorrow.
sorry guys no recap...but a few polls are up.
You mean if a forward makes an ill advised line change - it's the D's fault?
Once the D runs past the forwards it's totally their job to cover
There's a bit of a disconnect here...
I thought they were talking about when / if a D-man was carrying the puck out of his zone and into the attacking zone
Yes, but a forward will also need to be aware to know when they need to cover as a D might not be able to say: "I'm taking this rush"...communication is good, but hockey sense is very important.
im out of position a lot?
