So, over the last few weeks there has not been much activity on the site. A few reasons for that:
Not much controversy for post season awards. Outside of rookie of the year and the Selke, pretty much every other award category should be a slam dunk, and that includes the ones we haven't gotten to yet: best goalie, defenseman, MVP. The only debate is who places second and third in some cases. I will complete the award writeups next week, but I don't necessarily see it generating a lot of buzz.
Reason number two: Nick has completely fallen off of the face of the earth. Refuses to update the stats, which I will likely have to do.
Reason number three: I've been too busy to start any new topics. Trust me, I have plenty to say about the NHL draft, the terrible Lost finale, and Brendon being a complete idiot with volleyball this past week, but between the job and preparing for the baby I've been too busy. I hope to start a couple of new posts about those topics soon, but in the meantime feel free to add your "Why Brendon is an idiot posts below".
Reason number four: It's not hockey season. Let's face it, hockey drives this site. If we aren't playing each week and generating new things to talk about, complain about, or argue about, it's not going to be compelling.
The good news? We're only about two more months away from starting a new season. It will be sometime in September, so it's not that far away. Before then in August we can update the player cards with bios, and update everyone's NHL10 type ratings. Plus we'll have quite a bit of "B" team discussion I'm sure. So don't worry Jared - there should be plenty of activity on the site.
In the meantime, there are other events before we play in Saugus again: For starters, baseball. Next Sunday afternoon (July 11), I'd like to plan a baseball (actually baseball, not softball) game for around 4:00 (field to be determined). I want to get a set number of guys with positions. Teams will pitch to themselves (4 pitch max) to take away arguments of balls and strikes. If you are interested, let me know asap so you can get a spot.
Finally, sometime in early September I'd like to have that Haverhill tournament before we start playing in Saugus. We can probably have one in September, and maybe one in November if the weather is still warm enough.

Norris trophy isn't a slam dunk unless you're implying that Griff will win it.
Griff had more points in less games than Nick did. Granted he played offense also, but even if we just limit it to his games on D he'd have a higher point per game and was just as much of a shut down defender (when he wanted to be)as nick. plus GRIFF CAN HIT THE NET!!!!! If you say well he didn't always try...can you blame him? He was on Jared's team most of the time.
Look at Nicks numbers. More goals than assists for a defensemen? and it's not even really close the ratio between goals and assists for him, 42 G to 32 A. HMMMM sounds like he shoots it every time he touches the ball.
Couple those with the fact that he contains no ability to create plays or do anything but go up the boards. Nick is a good stay at home defenseman. Griff is a good 2 way defensman who puts up good numbers.
Yeah what a shoe in for the Norris trophy Nick is.
Now THAT's the type of debate we've been missing!
Brett, I'm impressed: a very coherent, well explained argument...and I didn't have to moderate it at all :)
showed up? lol
Just kidding Brendon,
found out the other day that my hip has been out of joint for the past
3 1/2 years. Pretty good for a gimp huh!
Yup, went to see Amato...
MUCH IBUPROFEN
Havent been to him in 15 years. But i have been getting treated for the past week or so and I am working out to strengthen the muscles as much as possible.
He says I will always have the problem now, but at least it will be somewhat manageable.
so you are using that as your excuse for your low numbers in Saugus this past year:)
You know brett, Im disappointed in you. Johnny also said MVP was a slam dunk and I dont think he was nominating you. I figured you'd be all over that.
I think someone is bitter about a certain play a couple months ago. :)
And I got better at hitting the net! Yeeshhhh!
Brendon, how about setting up the volley ball net way too far away for my 36 week pregnant wife to walk to, despite your brother, wife, and other friends with you telling you to set it up closer to where we played last time? Especially since we agreed where you were going to set it up.
Brendon's reasoning? He didn't want to walk to far.
Who says that we have to forgive and forget :)
that play didn't even cross my mind Nick. I was talking strictly about Saugus.
jared should get MVP no doubt. Putting up all those points all by himself pretty much.
He's like A-rod. His team doesn't win at all without him.
Johnny's team could win without him cause i was there and vise versa.
brett weren't you going to ref the ottawa tourney? that seems like it would be fun. i also heard tewksbury is reopened for business with brand new street hockey rinks.
Johnny you guys better start recruiting early cuz the "b team" is gaining a lot of popularity.
Anyone else been watching way too much soccer?
was gonna but couldn't get a passport for gabe in time and didn't want to make someone watch him for the weekend again.
I've been watching Wimbledon.
Listen, I am 41 years old, competing with mostly 20 somethings, and not getting picked last!!
As far as my numbers, they were better than the previous year! thats progress.
NO EXCUSES
Jared, I was told that the Dracut rink is open again too...how did your surgery go btw, and when are you supposed to be recovered?
I'm sure there will be a lot of "B" team this weekend at Bobcats...
i love it, hockey ends and none of us ever speak to each other till it starts again. Now that's true friendship right there
i miss Montreal
Montreal was what, 6 weeks ago? It feels likes it's been an eternity! I can't wait to go next year...
Brett, I agree with you though - we're all terrible friends! Once the summer comes no one has any contact until the fall. Usually softball or volleyball bridges that gap, but with you and Jared undergoing surgery that option's out.
Sometime in August, after we've adjusted to the baby for a few weeks I'll have you guys up...play some pool, nhl, rock band, and watch MTL videos.
In the meantime, we have to start another league in NHL 10 and try to finish it this time.
If we play baseball this weekend, it will be baseball, although teams will pitch to themselves to avoid the arguing over balls/strikes & beanings.
I'll have a better idea tomorrow night at my meeting if we'll do baseball this Sunday, or plan the beach again. It depends on the weather and how many people are interested in playing.
thank goodness
