Dear Slim

Why is it that the team that has been voted by the people to be better, insist on taking our player? Actually, let me rephrase that. Why is it that the B-team, a team that wont stop scratching it's own back, a team that spends countless hours trying to prove its worth, continue to only want to take on it's better counterpart if they split it up? How can the B-team continue to jazz up their "skill" if they are only scratching out wins because of a stolen "good"? You claim to have the better team, but you have yet to put that on the line. And until you put not only your team, but yourself, as a captain, on the line, you always be the second fiddle team...no matter what you say or do. End the cop out. End the game...let's see what you are really made of. Put up or shut up.

Game 1: B Team plus Ron beats most of the A Team.

Game 2: B Team plus a no name goalie pound John "Im over the hill" Riley and some of the A team 7-3.

Game 3: B team fails at their attempt at a cheap sweep. Final score? Up for debate.

Yeah, I'll be honest, I didnt have a lot in me this week. Oh well. This is a break in. Those 800 word posts will be back.

Stats are coming soon boys.

Good job icing the puck last night Nick.

Nick, over the hill? Hmm...

Jon, to respond to your post in the other thread, I'm not complaining about Cindy playing. That was our choice. I was simply saying that if there had been maybe a one player tweak to the teams it would have been a bit cloesr.

That being said, I don't have a problem with Ron or Darrin playing with the B-Team on Sundays. Obviously tournament wise it's a different story, and when we start practicing for the tourneys we will compete against each other with our actual teams.

But with Jared out there's no way it's fair to the B-Team in Saugus to face us each week without extra help. We have the 4 of the top 6 players, and then add the top goalie to that and it won't be fun for anyone.

Beyond anything else, the games should be close and competitve in Saugus, and that's how they've currently been.

What Happened to A-Team vs. B-Team?

5 Brad - Brad didn’t get this spot cause he performed above what we expect from him (well, not completely) I don’t remember more than 1 bad play from Brad the whole night. He was quick, he was effective , he was productive......he was a threat (no LOL from you Nick, he was a threat)

4 Mike W. - On a night where every other player on his team played below or WAY below expectations, Mike was the one constant for the Dark team(yes I‘m going back to "dark team" since A and B don‘t apply at all). You can’t teach hustle(or maybe it’s just very hard to teach) either way Mike never stopped trying and hustling every game, until Cindy quietly called out game over from the bench.

3 Ron - I hope the arguing didn’t scare Ron away from coming again cause he’s still a formidable foe…..or friend. Ron’s shot found it’s way through and around Jack’s pads many times during the night which is to be expected.

2 Borges - Third game he was average, but the first 2 games……phenomenal! His defensive presence was felt through the entire first 2 games as he broke up multiple plays with his back-checking and his ability to take away the passing lanes(those 286 pounds come in handy when blocking lanes) Frendon better hope JB keeps the weight cause I don’t even want to think about how quick and how good he’ll be if he gets in shape. But really, he’ll never get in shape.

1 Darrin - Did the dark team have chances? Sure they did. They had enough to win game 1. But Darrin stole game 1 in impressive fashion stoning Johnny and Brendon with desperation saves. And when a goalie starts making saves like that, the other team starts to think they’ll never score. Darrin stopped Johnny on the PS and made sure all of nick’s shot’s missed the net by 10 feet as he wasn’t bad in game 2 or 3 either.

Oooh. That's WPR.

surprisingly i agree with brett. there really is no a vs. b team in saugus and even when everyone is back there are still those extra guys who change the team dynamic.

so white vs. dark it is from here on out. the verdict will be reached in montreal!

so me and jonny will pick them up as fair as possible. we will of course keep the main a b guys like john, brett, nick, mike w. and jb, griff, mark s., jared together. this way we can build chemistry playing together.

hows that sound!

i hope stats are right this week!

such a lame recap as well... Borges see my last post in the prior thread..don't say you werent warned lol.!!

Since Mark just got the introduction to WPR it only makes sense that the office of Triple "P" makes his presence known.

The Professor has shown great wisdom beyond his aging keyboard. He is copied by many… but can never be duplicated. He has battled with the offices of WPR… a powerful rival that PPP respects, but usually disagrees with… but I digress

With that very, very brief introduction… I present PPP's Triple F (FAST FIVE FACTS)

5. Who’s the better Saladin… doesn't matter their both awesome!
4. Who’s the better Driscoll… without a doubt is the elder sibling!
3. What… Mike W learned to handle the ball when running! Awesome to watch!
2. Brad's got game! What? Yes, he takes instruction, in position to score and finishes!
1. JB is a wrecking machine on D! Dark team lost because JB wanted it more.

John said...

JB, that's what I thought we were doing anyways (me, Brett, Nick, Mike W vs Jon, Griff, Mike D, Mark, and eventually Jared). I guess calling it A vs B is the problem?

The A-Team has always had Darrin as our goalie and Ron on the team. The problem obviously is that there's no way to make that fair in Saugus.

Maybe we should have different team names to represent the two different groups each week so that they aren't confused with A vs B?

John said...

So PPP, if we lost games 1 & 2 because JB wanted it more, does that mean he didn't care about Game 3 or games 2 & 3 last week?

Sounds Manny-esque to me!

Mike D said...

why don't you just take the guys JB mentioned as the starting point

John, Brett, Nick, Mike W

JB, Griff, Mark S, (Jared when he's back)

Until Jareds back let JB pick first from the pool of guys, since the pool will always be a little different he can pick who he wants for that week for his 4th core guy

Then from there do what ever you guys do to determine rest of teams

Why doesn't John's team always be Dark and JB's always be white so that way you can call it Dark VS White?

Mark said...

Wow first WPR, then PPP. I must be in Wonderland! What other zany characters will I meet next?

"PPP" the Professor said...

@Johnny

JB is a machine on the floor, but also a man of compassion on the bench... I believe the term mentioned was "throwing the A team a bone"

Can't speak for last week. I was scouting the bruins rookie class and had no time to review the tape.

John said...

Mark, Big Board is entertaining. Occasionally the Real Deal pops up too.

PPP, great description of JB: "a man of compassion on the bench".

Does he like reading poetry and going for long walks on the beach too?

Brett said...

The Real Deal can stay gone as far as i'm concerned.

and PPP, WRP said that he holds grudges and that he didn't take last years "attacks" lightly. Just thought you should know.

Brett said...

why does goalie always seem to be the reason a team loses or wins in Saugus? Why can't we get 2 solid goalies every week?

Tony start showing up and get that desire for street hockey back. The other goalies can wait for the random week where Darrin or Tony can't make it. But i want two good goalies every week.

and if jack reads this, then he should know it wasn't all his fault this past sunday. I don't think i have to say who he shared the blame with

John said...

Brett, Steve has been playing longer than we have. I need to be fair and give Steve some games to play.

My father gets some time as well, but he is one of the goalies that can play out.

I was going to try to get Jimmy some consistent playing time, but it seems like every time I need a goalie he can't make it, and this past week he said he was going to play net and then didn't let me know that he couldn't until I texted him to confirm.

As a result Jimmy will be more sporadic. Darrin is in net every week that he can, and I will try to rotate between my father, Steve, and Tony.

And Brett, as you said goaltending was NOT the only reason we lost. We showed as a team in the third game that we were more than capable of winning even without the goaltending advantage.

"PPP" the Professor said...

@Brett... AKA one of WPRs many ding dongs.

Tell WPR that we streamlined our focus, and now operate underground. I have a wall of monitors... all with direct links to spy satellites. You'll never infiltrate my offices again... so... fa get abaa

BTW... your gonna need much more than fancy sneakers to get around Borges, Mike D, Bradley, Griff or either of the Super Sized Saladins.

That 1 goal you got was nice, but I got it on good authority that you have no clue how you managed to pull that play off.

Brett said...

johnny let's be real he was the reason we lost the first 2. Actually i'll say he didn't give us a chance to win. That's better. i made that comment about him sharing blame as a shot at Frendon. But really you can't blame Frendon for the 5-7 soft goals let up in the first 2 games.

Hey it happens. Jack had a terrible night. No need to defend him. He's a grown man and probably knows himself that he had a really bad night. Hey i'll even say that ariel had a bad game just to show i don't care about family ties.

Brett said...

we lead in the 3rd game cause the white team had maybe 3 shots

Brett said...

PPP, i couldn't even see the net above his glove when i shot. I just had complete faith in my incredible shot to find the twine

Nick said...

yeah they didnt get much of anything in that game...

Brett said...

and PPP i don't think i'll have to worry about Ron for too many games. He'll pull something by sunday, or there'll be a single rain cloud in the sky on Sunday and he'll back out.

Mike D said...

You should hope Ron doesn't pull anything because isn't he a corner stone of the the A-Team?

Brett said...

if he goes on the dl for another 180 days then he'll be back just in time for montreal.

So Borges, how's Scotty F's status coming along....

"PPP" the Professor said...

@Mike D

I watched Ron doggin it all night by not getting back on D... from the first game on...

In fact, he's not left the training room from soreness because of too many warm up shots he took on Darrin on Sunday.

His cornerstone days are long gone... but make room for a fat, out of shape wannabe. He should be able to fill that role quite nicely.

Brett said...

it's too bad BB probably won't post till mid October or even November

Mike D said...

Hey PPP - I watched Ron absolutely rip about 5 or 6 shots in a row past Darrin in warm up from just inside of center ice

I'm sure he'll be back as a corner stone in no time

JB said...

darrin is a great goalie and made some key saves for us. i think we played great d though. we cleared crap out from in front and kept most shots to the outside.

the problem is your team doesnt have the fastest shots so you need to score with that extra pass.

darrin can eat up most of those slow wristers.

brett has the fastest shot on the team.

and brendons 88 mph slapshot takes a whole period to get off so thats pretty useless!

and we have scotty in an undisclosed training facility. we dont want to risk injury before saugus.

and jonny if i can get tony there every week he should be able to play. hes played longer than darrin and darrin gets first shot. sounds a little fishy to me. im just going by what you said!

" Steve has been playing longer than we have. I need to be fair and give Steve some games to play."

JB said...

"and we have scotty in an undisclosed training facility. we dont want to risk injury before saugus." meant to say montreal

Brett said...

maybe it's time for Steve to learn how to play out a little bit. maybe he is awesome at defense.

If Tony isn't allowed to play every week, i'd almost rather that 2 terrible goalies play at the same time and then the next week have 2 good goalies. Like Jimmy and Jack one week. and then Darrin and Tony the next.

Darrin's gonna hate me for this suggestion. I know he wants in every week.

John said...

My father gives a team a much bigger advantage than Jimmy. Tony gives comparable play to Darrin, although is a slight notch down. My father and Steve are at the next level, and then Jimmy below that.

Here's the thing about Darrin playing every week: he can make it most weeks, and he consistently can give us great goaltending. I want him to be able to play every week he can, plus it keeps him sharp for MTL :).

As for the other goalies, Steve and Tony cannot show up consistently. Steve probably does moreso than Tony, but typically the most consecutive weeks you get out of Steve is 3 or 4 before he has something going on where he can't make it. Tony has always only been a week or two here or there. My father is able to usually make it more consistently than either of them.

One of the hardest things each week is to find are goalies to play. Despite the fact we have 5 goalies available, there's usually a few times each year where one of us have to play net instead because none of them can make it. In order to maintain enough of a pool of goalies, I've got to let them all play.

John said...

And here's the thing...our team has an advantage without Jared healthy yet. Even WITH Jared we should still have an edge with the two best forwards and two best D. We SHOULD have to face the better goalie. It helps level the playing field a bit.

As much as goaltending came into play on Sunday, if we all played to our abilities we should have been able to win (as we did game 3).

But the easiest solution each week is if the teams are fair and it's simply because the goaltending is too lopsided and THE factor for a victory, switch goalies for the next game.

Mike D said...

" we should still have an edge with the two best forwards and two best D"

You have the best in yourself - overall points over the last few years shows that, but in the last 2week JB has clearly taken the 2nd overall spot for forwards - maybe not in points, but in overall hockey play, I don't see him given that up anytime soon.

Reggie said...

Who are the two best D that A team has?

Mike D said...

he's prolly refering to Mike W / Nick

I think that gap between top teir defensemen has closed up since last year

Brett said...

Nick and Mike W. Duh Reggie. I think he meant 2 of out of 3 of the best.

Brett said...

JB has been the best player by far for the first 2 weeks.

Reggie said...

sorry Mike has become such an offensive juggernaut the last two weeks i forgot he played D.

John said...

Huh, that was just a throw-away comment - it wasn't meant to generate that much discussion.

I absolutely think JB is up there with the top forwards, so that was not a slight on him at all...I give Brett a slight edge, but's either way it's close.

As for the defense, I don't really consider Griff a strict defenseman, and Joe has been hurt. Thus the next two I'd take are Nick and Mike W.

Semantics aside, my overall point is with the talent we have on our team we should focus less on goaltending, and more on playing better.
