Saugus last week

Great games on Sunday at Saugus. Nice to see everyone again. I think I did OK on defense, but I'm glad I got that goal against Steve. He was on top of his game. Johnny and Brett, what a dynamic duo! And it was so nice to see all the veterans play. I mean, who needs leagues when you have such a good time at Saugus! Hope to see everyone next week!

- And then I woke up and realized that life is a little less fun without having Saugus hockey on Sunday nights. I used to know it was fall when we started playing again. It appears everyone loves the league environment, but I hope that some of you will reconsider starting up Saugus again. Not to rack up stats or to keep time, but to just have fun with some friends. And of course, to argue about offsides and Griff's checking. :)

Like Rose in the sea after the Titanic went down: Come back!

Lenny I hate the leagues. But not enough of you guys would show every week in Saugus. You, joe, dale, others. So we took the nine that would show every week and we made a team out of it. I'd rather play in Saugus on sundays

Lenny, I think the most fun I had this year was the game we played in Saugus a couple of months ago. I agree with Brett, the challenge is getting enough guys every week.

With that being said, I still would like to schedule a Sunday game for the first or second Sunday of November - whichever works for people. Hopefully we can get some of the guys that came last time with Tony too.

Well maybe absence makes the heart grow fonder. With this break we've had, maybe there will be renewed interest...

Not to be negative but how long will the renewed interest last? Better yet, how consistent is the interest going to be? Every week? Or just when xyz isn't going on that particular Sunday?

I loved Saugus when we were getting the guys but I'm skeptical that we will have enough interest...never mind it lasting long

Nick, that's why I'm taking it one week at a time. We play early in November and then we look to play again in December. If we get good support each time maybe we try a couple of times a month.

Basically, we schedule it for what the interest will support. In the meantime we are still playing in Dracut so we still get to play each week either anyway.

im sorry wasnt that your plan in october too?

The truth is John, people like lenny, brendon, joe, dale, chris y, etc.etc have to push for saugus because the rest of us lack the incentive to. In some ways we have our fix.

4 on 4 blows. We all remember it. We all hate it.

Lenny, you have us. You're preaching to the choir. You're telling the people at the dinner table to come down stairs for supper. Anyone on this site would be in most every week. its where the other 5 guys come from. Thats why we stopped.

If we have the guys....ill be there because, to be honest, that game we played in Saugus, that you couldnt play in, was fantastic. Probably never duplicated.

tick..tick...tick...when will frendon chime in?

I believe part of it was fatigue. Now that some time has passed, I bet you'll get a good showing. It's kinda like having chocolate cake (or insert your favorite dessert). If you have it all the time, it loses some of its luster and it's not as exciting. But if you have it on a less frequent basis, it becomes more exciting.

The season for hockey seemed to go from September to May, which extends the season, sure, but I think it lead many guys to say, "eh, I'll get there next week". But if we played, say, October to March, I think the luster will be back and guys will come back as they know the season won't be as long and it becomes more special.

Another point is we can try to extend more invites to different people. Try to drum up the interest. I know I can talk it up in Malden. If Saugus is kept firmly in the "just for fun" region and doesn't become "moan and groan" sessions, newer people will see how much fun it is and hopefully it'll lead to more regulars.

But hey, maybe I'm just an eternal optimist!

How can you be preaching to the choir when the choir doesn't come to the church anymore? Not buying it.
