Haverhill Cup

Re-Draft

On the day Billy “the lesser Driscoll” dropped out of the tournament, the GMs of each team scrambled to put their heads together and re-draft the same day. Filling the void on the roster left by Billy D was Scott Finalyson. Orders were re-picked randomly by Ashley Borges and it went like this.

Jared

Johnny

Brett

Borges

And with the first pick in the draft Jared picked Scotty F. And so here are the teams for the 2013 Haverhill Cup……(until Scotty drops out too)

Jared – Scott – Mike W – Brian – Bobby

John – Eric – Billy T – Elliot – Jack

Brett – Ron – Griff – Andrew – Tony

Borges – Nick – Mike D – Brendon – Darrin

How did the picks go? Was it snake draft or did Jared get first pick each round?

Brett said...

Snake order with a twist

Nick said...

yeah it sounded like it took 45 minutes to figure out the "twist". 3 picks in a row...lol.

I think that any team could win, because every team seems to have a critical flaw.

My team will be so gritty. We will be immovable along the fence :)

btw, johnny im more than willing to play 5 on5 this week. i wanna play

Brett said...

No. The order went. 1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1 then (here's the twist) 4-3-2-1-1-2-3-4

i never said 3 picks in a row did actually happen brett.

Nick said...

and Iginla!

Griff said...

So who got the 5th pick Jared or Borges?

Jared said...

Borges did

me, Riley, Brett, JB, JB, Brett, Riley, me, JB, Brett, Riley, Me, Me, Riley, Brett, JB

How are we looking for hockey tomorrow? Seems like we need goalies.

Nick said...

Yeah. Last I Heard, steve is in net. We need one more goalie and ideally a couple more guys

Griff said...

I'll play net!

Brett said...

im out sorry

Brett said...

Iginla slipped through the B's hands. Penguins are pretty stacked

Jared said...

brett you know you could squeeze in saugus and acton tomorrow.

Brett said...

thats what me and borges have been talking about.......among other tihngs.

John said...

We have Tony in for tomorrow, and supposedly Steve although he probably will be fairly late. I am waiting to hear from Danno and some others.

So Brett, you are definitely out for tomorrow? Is Darrin able to play, in case Steve is too late?

I like how Jared gets the #1 pick both times and then proceeds to draft a guy who doesn't play. Or hasn't played in a long time. Funny.

Jared said...

Correction Billy, i had the second pick last time, Ron went #1 to Borges in the first draft.

I like how brett was down on ron and tony, and then drafted them both.

I want to play tomorrow too nick, let's make this happen!

Brett said...

Im in. I'll play in Saugus and Acton. Ill just leave Saugus a little before 8. I don't think Darrin would make it. i wouldn't count on him. You can text him and ask though.

Brett said...

Let's be real, if I drafted Ron the first time around I would've been saying how underrated his passing ability is and what a leader he becomes once he steps on the ice. And for Tony I still think him and Bobby are close in skill. But the consensus is that Tony is the second best. Who knows what someone might give for the second best goalie in the tournament.

Brett said...

cause if you do the same order then people can just learn from the mistakes they made in the last draft. cough*Johnny*cough

Billy the Kid said...

Oops! My mistake Jared.

However, something tells me you would have taken Billy 1st overall if you had that pick.

I'm not knocking you. Just a funny observation.

Nick said...

My question is Scott and billy so different that the teams needed to be switched? It's not like warren is replacing billy

Brett said...

Do you think Borges would have taken Ron over Scott?

Brett said...

I wouldn't have minded just replaceing Billy with Scott on Johnny's team

Brett said...

but if you're goning to redraft you have to redo everything not just one aspect.

Jared said...

"now his odds of getting a #1 pick two times in a row are significantly reduced"

That's an incorrect statement.

Scott changes the whole draft, Nick and Griff become more valuable and the children become even less valuable, and Borges most likely would have taken scott first so we couldn't just give him to Johnny.

What's the matter brendon, don't like your team?

Brett said...

You got that impression too Jared?

Jared said...

Cool let's have a little debate with some sarcasm!

I love math, especially simple math. We put four names into a hat and drew one out randomely. we all had a 1 in 4 chance to get that pick.

Oh wait! I forgot 17 years ago i was involved in a random 1 in 4 drawing that I won. So that means my chances decreased for this drawing right? Yay for make believe!

I see Brendon, you saw the movie 21 with kevin spacey, and thought that rule applied to to random unconnected drafts. I should never play heads or tails now with JB because it's his turn to win because that's how the world works.

Jared said...

I get it now brendon. So if we were doing a draft for who gets bradleys post game bag of skittles, then it would still be 1 in 4. But since it was for hockey again, his odds go down.

Tell me, did the god of picking paper out of a hat direct Ashley's hand away from picking JB's card?

Jared said...

Brendon you are over thinking it. The point is each individual draft is indepedent and has no bearing on what has happened previously!

It's like how Griff never loses at the credit card game.

Where is Johnny when I need him.

Griff said...

This is actually very funny. Brendon, no matter how many times Ashley picks 1 of the 4 names it's always a 25% chance. I agree it's very unlikely Borges gets 1st pick if you pick them 5, 10 or even a 100 times but no matter what there are always only 4 names to pick.

The simple analogy of a coin toss is the easiest way to explain this. You flip a coin 100 times are you going to get 100 heads or a mixture? It's possible to get 100 heads because it's always a 50% shot every time however unlikely that would be.

Griff said...

According to that premise if I try to do a backflip 100 times on the 101 try I am much more likely to succeed because I have already failed so many times.

Nick said...

thanks for bringing frendon back to us, jared!

weee!!!!!!!

Nick said...

btw frendon, i do not accept yahoo answers (the uk edition) as a viable source.

Billy the Kid said...

Wow.

I can't believe I just wasted the last 10 minutes of my life reading that.

It makes me want to blow my head off. Maybe I should try Russian Roulette. Brendon, what are my odds of the gun going off? 1/6? Do the odds increase or decrease if I try again?

My head is starting to spin again. I gotta go....

JB said...

I want a redraft!!! I got screwed!

John said...

Nuts and bolts...

John said...

Brendon, Jared was correct, there is a 25% chance each time. If you calculate the odds to get the first pick over the course of multiple drafts it's less than 25%, but each specific draft its 25%.

John said...

The Patriots would either have the number one pick because of having a terrible season or because they made a trade for it. JB simply had his name picked out of a hat...nothing special that he did to earn it.

Griff said...

Jonny who is in for tonight? Has danno or anyone else confirmed?

JB said...

jonny,my mom says im special!

Brett said...

i vote to kick Frendon out of the tournament so that he doesn't have to waste his time worrying about absolutely nothing

John said...

Griff, so far only the people on the other post plus Ricky and Steve and Tony in net. I am waiting to hear from danno and his guys, but I am not necessarily expecting anyone.

So that's at least 5 on 5 plus the goalies.

Brett said...

If we kick Frendon out we wont redraft

JB said...

We would have to redraft. Do you know how good the chances are that I get the 2nd or 3rd pick?

Griff said...

Brendon should play roulette he would make millions!!!

John said...

Inside rink btw
