Weekly Power Rankings

3-17-13

Shameful

10 Billy T – Flashes of Borges with the long passes over everyone. Too bad Brett couldn’t finish like Jared can. Billy sobered up by game 2 and got it together.

9 Ward (-2) – Seems to want to just get one incredible goal per week. No penalty for excessive celebration. Well deserved.

8 Nick (+1) – A tall order for Nick tonight trying to contain a line of Ron, Borges and Jared. But he did quite well and kept his chin up even when Billy forgot how to play D in game one. Nick didn’t even think about blaming Billy T for his poor plus/minus rating.

7 Elliot (+1) – A solid second-liner with a nose for the net. Needs to be faster when he has the ball though.

6 Brendon (E) – Played hard all night and even took a wicked cross-check to the midsection from Jared that he moaned about for oh I don’t know a good 20 seconds. But in good ol’ Brendon fashion was ready to keep playing until he was called off for embarrassing himself and the team.

5 Borges (-1) – Underwhelming performance from JB. Had some very good back-checks to prevent some goals. I think he seems to score more than he does because he celebrates so much after every goal.

4 Darrin (-1) – “On call” my butt.

3 Johnny (+1) – Lit up Bobby with 7 goals. After tonight, both Borges and Brett should be worried about their net minders for the upcoming hockey get-together.

2 Jared (-1) – Incessant complaining and over the top angry sarcasm really wore on both teams. Way to overreact to every little thing that happens that you don’t like. Shameful isn’t what you and Borges claim to be monster shifts from Brett and Johnny. Shameful is the unnecessary bickering and the inability to let things go. Of course Jared probably had a hidden agenda for all his whining, it remains to be seen if it worked though. We’ll find out next week (if it worked it could skyrocket him back to first automatically). But for now all he did was act like a baby whose team never does anything wrong and cost himself the #1 spot.

1 Brett (+1) – Maybe he didn’t score as much as he should have with all those chances but he sure scored the biggest and timeliest goal of the night (unlike someone else who couldn’t beat the buzzer). And mostly got this spot just to spite Cry Baby Jared. Yes, I know that used to be Brett’s nickname.

Honorable Mention: Joe – Was the best defenseman for the White team and while he didn’t turn any heads with his play, he did a lot of the small things well.

Dropping off the list (way off the list): Mike D

Newcomer: Billy T

Great points WPR, we should definately not play with any rules or general hockey guidelines. I say no offsides, no faceoffs, no icing. In fact we should be allowed to do anything. Throw the ball, run with it, have all 12 guys out there at once. We could make this more fun i think! It is Johnnys alternate universe afterall.

And if i didn't know any better wpr, id say you are making it personal with leaving ron off the rankings.

Did Jared act differently last night than normal?

I'll admit I'm on Jared's side on this one. Judgment icing calls are very frustrating.

I do like that the only rule brett wanted to play by was that when we do randomely call icing, nobody can sub on the defensive team. Id say that should definately be the only rule we play by, the one obscure rule the NHL came up with a couple years ago.

WPR didn't say there should be no rules. Both sides make stupid "calls" but he's saying how u complain about the calls for another 5 minutes instead of just letting it go and taking the ball out. Bad calls happen and yes they r very frustrating but I don't see how whining makes it better.

And I agree ron should have been on the list. Maybe it was the wide open 130 MPH slapshot he took that completely missed the net from 10 feet away

Both sides? You disallowed a bang bang goal at the buzzer, you won that call. You called us on icing, changed your mind, went down and scored. You picked and choosed when to call offsides, complained the one time we called you offsides.

But remember when you tripped over your own feet tho? Man that was a travesty, definately worthy of you bickering and complaining for the rest of your 15 minute shift.

Where's PPP i need backup!

Jared u just keep proving WPRs point everytime u post. Keep going ur doing great.

We disallowed a bang bang goal......after the buzzer. Stinking rules right jared. Ahhhhh hate those rules. Ur drunken teammate was the one who kept yelling play it on that icing call which is what confused everyone. I'd ask u to ask him about it but I doubt he'd remember anything. The offsides I questioned, not complained about, I accepted the call as soon as jb said the kid who's never played hockey before was way offsides. And I was fine with that cause jb knows how to talk normal during a game(sometimes). But ur right Jared I'm such a clutz. Always tripping over my own feet. Silly me. Somehow getting tripped is my fault. Knew u could spin it in ur favor so ur team remains free from blame.

As for the icing the led to Elliot's goal I never heard anyone yell icing, and never thought that it was icing since I had run back hard for the ball. I was fine not counting that goal though.

To be fair though, one of the goals that the white team scored in game 1 was immediately after an obvious icing call. Danno went to retrieve it, tried to get it to the guys for a faceoff, and had someone on the white team (I believe it was Mike) end up playing the ball anyway, with a goal coming a few seconds later. We just ended up letting that go.

To be completely honest, I wasn't interested in arguing any of the calls last night, it's just not worth it unless it is something like a game winning goal after the buzzer.

Me too Johnny, I'm not interested in arguing any play unless it negatively affected my team.

I need an answer to my trade offer Johnny, send me a text!

Sorry Jared, I think Darrin might become untouchable - especially if Tony still has a hole in his foot!

Jared, I don't know why you're so fired up. You got your customary 1 win last night. You should be happy!

It's amazing how the domination of our top line against there top line has been overlooked. We cleaned up on the one shift that Brett had the stones to face our line. Even nick said Brett was doing line changes to not face our line and go against the little rookies. He would send nick and billy out to face us. They took the challenge and did great! Kudos to them. To Brett I say scared much!!!!

Brett said...

I'd call it coaching. We have the last change as the home team you know. Claude would be proud of us. You did own us on that shift. But I wasn't trying to avoid you're line. I don't know why Nick said that.

Nick said...

JB, I think you're kind of exaggerating what I said. That isnt cool...lol.

You paint a picture as if Brett was cowering to the bench every time the best line of our generation came on to the ice. Thats not what I said at all.

I felt that Brett and Johnny werent out there enough against your top line, intentional or not, but to be honest after reflecting on it today I probably exaggerated that thought myself. I was frustrated that the defense was "stacked" but on a defensive zone face-off Elliot would be pushed around by Jb for two easy goals right off the face-off. Nothing we could do about it. Would have been nice to have Johnny on those face-offs (seriously).

John said...

Speaking for myself, I would have liked to take all of those faceoffs against the other line. However, you do have to be fair and let everyone else play.

BTW, stats will be up tomorrow.
