Mercy!
10 Brendon – Still doesn’t have the basic instincts you’d hope to see from a veteran hockey player, like not standing still in the corner on a two one 1, or not shooting it from the blue line on a 3 on 1, but his game last night was nowhere near his worst.
9 Mike W (E) – Those feet just never stop moving, but he still remains one of the most overrated defensemen in Saugus and we don’t even rate him that high to begin with.
8 Reggie (E) – Playing defense might not be his thing judging from what I observed last night, especially in game 2. But offense definitely isn’t his thing. So that leaves goalie.
7 Ron (+3) – Started off hot and then fizzled out but only in the scoring department, his play was solid throughout the night. He was setting Brett up in the slot quite a bit too. Maybe the Haverhill Cup sparked something between those two.
6 Johnny (+1) – Better than last week as he robbed Brendon many times during the night. And a shutout is a shutout. His only goal was to not drop any further on WPR and he succeeded. Isn’t that everyone’s goal each week?
5 Nick (-1) – I’m so glad I don’t ever have to go against Nick and his 14’ wingspan. But good news is that now you have people talking about PP opportunities. If I had a vote in the matter (and I do) PP opportunities would be awesome. Think of the possible stats! I’m guessing Brendon would have the worst PK % and Jared would have the most shorthanded goals. Nick drops a spot due to game #2.
4 Griff (+1) – Played uninspired until Nick mauled Mike W, but by then there was only 3 minutes left in the night. And then he maliciously tripped Brett to end the night. Something like that should never go unpunished. Can you imagine what the Dark team would have done with a 6 second PP?
3 Borges (E) – 3 goals but all in the first game. He should have never shown Brett that you can score off Johnny with a slow shot from 90’ away.
2 Brett (E) – New records are great and I love records and all (maybe it is the stick), but game 2 really tainted what was otherwise a good night for the whole Dark team. So Brett stays in 2nd.
1 Jared (E) – 24 points in 2 weeks isn’t a bad average. In game one, him and Borges looked like they were back playing in Dracut….. you know, because they scored a lot but still lost.
Honorable Mention: Elliot – Played a total of 149 seconds and made a bigger impact than his brother
Newcomers: Brendon
Drop-offs: None

I think you guys barely mustered 3 goals that last game. Barely, because if you didn't get that 3rd goal you would have had 2 goals.
And i know it's beating a dead horse, but why can't Johnny just quickly throw up the stats and box score for us?
and if we didn't get the 2nd goal we would have only gotten 1 goal. And if we didn't get the first goal we would have been shutout again.
Jared, if only it was that quick! I record everything in the database: what the teams were each game, which the results were each game, the goals and assists for each goal each game, etc. Once that is captured the program generates the stats and I copy it up. Overall it takes about an hour. I should be able to post last week's and this week's tomorrow.
I thought Ron played very well in the offensive zone setting plays up. I thought Nick was dominant in game one before tailing off a bit.
Power plays are an interesting idea. Quite the potential for arguing, but still pretty interesting. I would suggest trying to add that next year though.
yes arguing would definitely be a problem but it's nothing we haven't dealt with before. Why wait till next season? I want to start diving and embellishing ASAP!
Spoken like a true Canadians fan!
And if we do have penalties, do we have a ref? Or is it just the honor system? That would lead to lots of arguments.
Something that could work is calling penalties on yourself. Like last night at the end of the game Griff called himself out for tripping Brett. That would have been a penalty. That could work.
That would work but only for a couple people. Johnny doesn't think his one handed hook is a penalty nor his one handed shove to the back to slow himself down while you go face first into the boards. Frendon just doesn't know the rules whatsoever. He finally learned how an assist actually gets counted just last year. Slashing is a judgment call.
It would have to be blatant. Like last night to me the only penalty was the trip from Griff. Maybe Reggie's first shove on Jared along the boards(not the one where Jared just ran into him) You couldn't call the holding on Nick seeing as Jared was the only one that even saw it and it was a collision on both players part. You can't call Griff's aggressive stick work cause it's not a penalty it's just annoying and intimidating. So it'd just have to be the very obvious penalties
What you don't want is a situation where it's like playing basketball with people who call foul every time they take a shot.
As long as Jared is never a captain
Darrin's in. I'm in
I was asked to show a little love for the Haverhill cup on my website.
I did more then that by writing a full fledged article on the event.
Its a must read...
http://hockey8.com/saugus-hockey/the-haverhill-cup-recap/
The authority of my website is mind blowing.
Within 1 minute the Haverhill Cup article was indexed by Google.
Do a Google search for Haverhill Cup and I'm number 2, above the youtube video Brett posted on April 11.
haha good read well done Ron! I love the recap of both drafts that will surely confuse your Acton readers.
And although our regular season was embarrasing, we did win 1 game.
Penalties probably won't work, we can start it next week where the person who commited the penalty calls themself on it. We might get one or two on the night which would be perfect.
This site used to get good recaps like that
How about that overview shot of the Haverhill Cup Scene... a classy and professional touch.
Yes Ron. Enjoyed that read. Pretty good with the details even though its been a few weeks.
I thank wpr for not truly portraying how bad I played...but I am a winger first even though im.rusty. I need a second chance!!! lol
