Weekly Power Rankings

9-22-13

New Season, Same Old Grudge

13 Nick – There’s no hope of you ever leaving this spot before an apology is issued verbally and in written form. Of course if the rankings ever get expanded you could drop below this spot, but the point is, you only have one way of escaping the bottom, and for the weeks where I only do 10 spots, you will not even be mentioned.

12 Mike D – Hope you feel better. See you next week?

11 Austin – Really had no chance to live up to all the hype that was being thrown around about him. He did slightly frustrate Nick, but then again Nick was the worst player according to these rankings so take it for what it’s worth.

10 Reggie – Come on Reggie, we all know you have more to give than that. Remember that backhand shot though? If you don’t Borges can showed you what it looked like. Perhaps the tank-top was cutting off circulation to…everywhere.

9 Cindy – Borges might not allow her to play on his team, but I feel like she’s not the worst you could do for a winger this week. That honor goes to someone whose name begins with an A.

8 Griff - I feel his night was hindered by too many shots taken in warm ups.

7 Jack – Lateral movement will always be a problem for this goalie who’s on the back nine of his career, but nights like this show that he got quite a bit left. We’ll say he’s on the 13th hole.

6 Borges – Didn’t really do much on offense, wasted a lot of energy diving on the back-check which is admirable if it were anywhere other than Saugus, and defense wasn’t much better. Pretty sure he did something good though. Post in the comments if you remember something good he did.

5 Johnny – Johnny had some trouble cracking the top 5 last year if I recall correctly. I expect him to be playing net quite often this year, but I don’t expect him to play this well every week. But hey, you have to do whatever it takes to get into the top 5

4 Jared – His first and only goal came in the highly competitive 4th game of the night. But I didn’t actually see it, so does it still count? Does it Borges?

3 Ron – He’s 63 years young and is quicker and more talented than 100% of the players to ever show up at Saugus (granted he’s never won in tournament play). When’s it going to be time to pass the reigns?

2 Brendon – With the new old points race in full swing, Brendon started it off the right way and scored a couple game winners along the way. And now, with technology advancing every year, lost points are a thing of the past.

1 Brett – I think we all know the real reason WPR came back this week. Safe to say if my favorite player didn’t do so well this week I wouldn’t be here.

Honorable Mention: Billy T – Hope you’re ok. I’m going to keep pestering you for an update on your tooth until you finally give me one just so I can put in my 2 cents of past experiences and suggestions

Looking at the teams last night I was very surprised that we swept. On paper I thought the teams were as close to even as you could get, with maybe a slight edge to the dark team.

The biggest difference was just how well the white team played. Brett was the best player out there (when he played), while Nick was outstanding defensively. Ron gave us a legit scoring threat all night, and Brendon and Cindy were both vastly improved from last week. Very few turnovers in our end.

Our fourth game was the most impressive since we were clearly the underdogs that game.

Overall I thought the black team played pretty well (better than the record indicates), they just weren't as good defensively.

I'm just happy to get the win for game 4.

we had an edge. Top 3 on each team was even. Frendon was the difference believe it or not.

Brett Ron and Nick is better than me borges and griff 80% of the time.

Johnny is way better than jack in net even tho jack played good.

Brendon is better than Dimaio when playing

Reggie is better than Austin.

Cindy was only a sub first game or two and obviously wasn't alowed to play much.

Tell me where this slight edge we had Johnny?

We didn't pick teams we just went with the "set teams" so i'm not complaining, i thought it was actually a good week.

We should have been able to squeak out 1 win.

not sure why i hit return so much on that post.

I love how Borges and Jared never want to admit that Cindy played. Just a crutch that you always go to to complain about teams. Cindy was out there for the entire game 4 and you guys still lost, so what's the excuse there?

Reggie is better than Austin, but then when Reggie is playing for your team he somehow transforms into the worst player ever in your minds.

Again, we had the edge. Frendon played really well and Johnny played way better than he usually does. But we're talking in hindsight. Johnny usually only has a slight to middle edge over Jack most nights in net and Frendon is either decent or can single-handedly unravel a team.

And don't forget, Austin had an off night so...

Jared re-post the "set-teams" you had in mind.

Are we assuming Jack and Steve will be the goalies for the majority of this season?

Brendon, I've had trouble with goalies pretty much every week!

I look at the teams for last night as Brett / Ron / Nick is roughly equivalent to JB / Jared / Griff. Austin should have the edge over Cindy and Brendon has an edge on Reggie. In net my father has been very good this year and has been more consistent than I have. That's why I said that the teams seemed to be pretty even.

Last night everyone on our team played well at the same time. Next week the reverse could happen and the other team could win.

I was just going over the box score and noticed I didnt get an assist on rons goal where I eroneously tripped on a mysterious object and slid into jack and ron got the rebound and scored. Game 3 goal 3 I believe. Did someone on the dark team control the ball before ron scored? I feel like that was a hard earned assist.

I would double check brendon's database brett, nothing is inaccurate there.

Brett said...

That was my initial feeling, but I just had to ask. Since hes been denied thousands of points over the years, frendon is the only one who can sympathize with me.

Brett said...

My question is why wasnt I credited with an assist? Did someone else control the ball before ron scored? If not then give me the assist. Its like he scored on the rebound. Assist goes to me. 12 points last week. Or I can just add an assist to the sheet next time I play.

The nhl scores second assists too. So if the nhl does it we should. By the way I hope you realize that whether home or away, the score keeper will skew the stats a bit. Like when seguin somehow got an assist on bergerons ot winner vs toronto. He never touched it but still got an assist. Or in baseball when theyll give the home player the hit even though he really reached on an error. So you see frendon it happens in the pros too.

Jared said...

If my memory serves me correct, I controlled the ball for 20 seconds passed it to JB who redirected it to Griff and then Ron scored.

Griff said...

That sounds about right...

TOP TEN BABY!!!! woooooooooooo!!!!!!

Brett said...

I am dead serious that the assist is missing.

Brett said...

It was a goal off a rebound that I shot. Pretty sure thats indisputable

Brett said...

Frendon can you post a pic of the stats please

Jared said...

I dispute the goal. Jb can you tell Johnny not to count any of Brett's assists?
