From the offices of Big Board comes the much anticipated Haverhill Cup team draft preview.
4. Team Johnny- Tough to even call this collection of misfits a team. With Nick showing his true colors like Cyndi Lauper last week, it's evident that when the going gets tough, Nick does not get going. The grind of the long Saugus season has taken it's toll on the Prater boys as well, BB has seen a significant drop off in their play. Elliot's flipping out on 1st time players who don't understand our made up offsides rule that doesn't make sense. Johnny will be the best back up goalie there, so that's something to not be excited about when Darrin has an emotional breakdown from facing 300 shots a game and listening to Johnny yell at Andrew to get back and cover for him. Offense: D- Defense: B- Goalie: B+
Bottom Line: They may squeeze out 1 regular season win but a first round exit.
3. Team Brett- The more this team is analyzed the more dysfunctional it is. Brett and Eric will wreak havoc in the offensive zone, but I question the finishing skills. Their only real chance of going far is if Brett drops back to defense. Joe and MikeD will get picked apart back there, and Tony will be there to make sure those few good defensive plays they make will be worthless. Brett needs a trade. Offense: A- Defense: C- Goalie: D
Bottom Line: They need the #1 seed, if not JB's team sees them out in the first round.
2. Team JB- Close call for the number 1 spot, but it's tough to overlook Jack in net. Jack is an above average goalie in Saugus. But dealing with quality shooters in an all day tournament is going to be way too much for him to handle. They have the best overall players but they are not built to come back. JB and Griff will no doubt ruin a lot of player's time (mainly the Prater boys and Jared) which will be fun. Brian's tournament experience is not to be overlooked. Offense: C Defense: B+ Goalie: C-
Bottom Line: Avoid them in round 1 of playoffs, but endurance all the way to a finals win will be tough
1. Team Jared- They may not have a true defenseman, but Jared will have no problem demoting someone to play that meaningless position. Ron will most likely handle the position. This team should be able to keep up in scoring with Brett's team, while having a much better goalie in net. Let's not forget a tournament best 3 former champions. JB's team will provide high powered clash in the finals, but I can't imagine Ron not being able to average a goal per minute against Jack. Oh, and Reggie won't be playing. Offense: B+ Defense: C- Goalie: B
Bottom Line: They back their way into a Haverhill cup victory, unless Jared blows it by making a ton of needless trades.

Didn't want to bump the post done with a new thread yet, so here is the update for hockey this week: we are playing Friday night, 7:00, outside rink.
In: John, Nick, Cindy, Brendon, Elliot, Andrew, Jared, Joe, Billy T, Austin.
Haven't heard from: Mike W, Ignads, Micah, Mike D, Jon, Griff, Brett
Have no fear Jared about that C- we got from the one I call 'double B'. He's got to have more in depth coverage and present more compelling analysis before he measures up to the likes of the those with 3 letter acronyms. Let it be known that I'm more partial to Triple P then WPR, but that's a debate for another time.
My defense and the occasional offensive explosion will be stellar during the Haverhill cup this year. I may be getting old, but I ain't goin down without a fight. Since December, I've employed a professional trainer to ship me into shape. She's a champion power lifter for some association that I forget the name of. One of the most challenging things she has me do is push a prowler up and down the length of the gym with 4 plates on it. It's a killer conditioning exercise. I swear my heart has never thumped as hard as it does after 3 reps with that prowler. It's really intense. I fully expect that my wind (and heck lets throw in my ankles, groin, knees, hips, back and shoulders) to hold up during the tournament, and let's hope the playoffs too. It's a Championship or bust mentality all the way. And we need Reggie to wear people down with his size, especially in the offensive zone. Forget A framing in the corners, we want Reggie to W frame em. Lets Go Reg... Let's Win baby Win
I showed my true colors like Phil Collins
Good read BB!
I think a funny line was Jack is an above average goalie in Saugus.
In Saugus is a great phrase. Just like you always add "in bed" at the end of fortunes in fortune cookies, I think we can add "in Saugus" to the end of our games.
Billy T is an above average D man...in Saugus.
Johnny is an above average Center...in Saugus.
Nobody likes Brett... in Saugus.
Fits perfect.
"In saugus" not needed for the last one
What happened to Sunday? I'm going to loon so I'm out Friday. In for Sunday though.
In for sunday
If the game is Friday this week, I'm a maybe. I'll get back to you.
Sunday looks like a winner.
Assembly this weekend so Sunday is a definite no. I likely can't do Friday either.
Not so fast, ignads can only play Friday.
I like the offseason conditioning Ron! Will we get a preview before the Haverhill Cup or are you saving yourself?
Ill even do Saturday. Just not Friday unless by some miracle there's no traffic.
JB, you can't ski on Friday anyway. 50 degrees with rain.
Unfortunately I had plans made for me this Sunday, so I could only do Friday, and Friday worked for the goalies. Additionally, the assembly prevented some from playing on Sunday.
Next week we should be back to Sunday.
Brett, are you coming from work on Friday? Can you make it north of the city before the rush hour traffic?
Jared I will play here and there in Saugus but from about the 3rd week of March I'll be committing to street hockey until whenever cup weekend is.
Leaving at 2 to beat traffic for a game at 7? Ariel is working Friday night anyway
you dont like that plan brett? lol
I can still do friday but i might have to work so I prefer sunday this week.
who are the goalies for friday? Which ones can play sunday?
I'm with Nick. I can play Friday after work but I would rather play on Sunday.
I think Rick can play Friday or Sunday. My father can play on Friday. Steve and Mike are out for Sunday.
johnny, for someone who has played hockey on sunday night for like 10 years, youd think you wouldnt schedule other things to do on sunday night
I didn't. It was scheduled for me while I was at hockey.
Come on Jonny. Sun looks best here. Time for you to make a move and get out of those plans.
Whenever the game is this week, I can't play.
when are we playing?
For now, it's still Friday. I should find out this afternoon if my Sunday plans can change and if the rink is available. I should be able to post the final answer later today.
Alright, I can switch it to Sunday at 6:00 outdoors. Before I switch the rink, who can play this Sunday?
The switch is confirmed. 6:00 outside on Sunday.
