Weekly Power Rankings

3-9-14

A Step In The Right Direction

10 Brendon – A staple here at the 10th spot. I can’t even imagine what kind of week it would take just to move him up to 9th, but I’m positive the shell that’s left of this one time significantly below average player will never produce it. And we all know he’s never going to be left off due to the fun nature of writing about him.

9 Rick – There’s a lot of rumors floating around that Steve ended the night with a second straight shutout but I’m not buying it. Rick won the first 3 games(which we know are the only real games) and did so while making some pretty impressive saves. He’s made the rankings and not just because I felt like being nice.

8 Joe – I keep hearing that Jared’s gonna abuse him, but I’ve yet to see it with my eyes. Be assured though that Billy Driscoll the ref will call you for a dive in the Haverhill Cup if you try to pull that hammy crap again.

7 Griff – He’s never afraid to call out his teammates when they routinely are caught looking at the play going the other way. Just ignore the fact that he turned it over in the first place.

6 Borges – Here’s to hoping the last game of the night was much better than the first 4. It certainly was trending that way from what little I paid attention to in the 4th game.

5 Ron – What a gentleman of the game. Although scoring the game winner, it never even crossed his mind to scream it in Brendon’s face when he triumphantly walked past him.

4 Johnny – That one rush where he went through everyone so deliberately and un-flashy was entertaining, yet I almost felt embarrassed for the White team as it unfolded. This is multiple weeks where he’s been sliding around in the slot and losing the defender. Is Johnny back just in time for the Cup? He could be, if somehow Andrew/Elliot morph into some form of Ron or Brett and constantly feed him the rock.

3 Jared – Along the same lines as Borges’ critique, the more games played the better for Jared. He did seem to control the play in the offensive zone much better than in recent weeks, but did hold onto it a little too long on some shifts. I don’t know why he couldn’t just throw it to the other wing for Cindy to corral.

2 Nick – Stepped up big time to shut down Jared and whoever else tried to come down his side of the ice. That’s not to diminish what Ignads accomplished on the opposite side, but Nick played close to flawless defense…..except when he didn’t step up on Borges…..

1 Brett – If you actually looked at the film and studied Brett’s passing percentage it’d probably only be around 32-35 percent, but because he’s constantly flying around and tracking the ball down, he just get’s it back and tries again. But the only one who would possibly study footage of Brett….. is Brett himself, and he would never admit to such a low passing percentage.

Honorable Mention: You were better than usual getting there on time this week, keep it up.

Brett I can't imagine you liked what you saw out of Joe.

It's not how you start the night it's how you finish and I was proud of white team. Although we went 2-3 on the night we outscored dark team while being underdogs.

Two game win streak baby!!!!

WPR is losing credibility if he isn't taking Brett's 2 game losing streak he's on right now into account.

Jared said...

How can WPR give an accurate ranking system when he/she admits to not being present for 2 of the games?

Steve had two shutouts on the night, something I'm sure hasn't happened in years!

how many games did we play last night?

Nick said...

5

The game 4 & 5 5-0 wins were legit, but when you take out the opposing teams star player, that was not a surprising outcome.

But I'll tip my stick to Steve, he earned those shutouts. He didn't get alot of shots in those final 2 games, but made every save so he earned the shutouts.

Brett said...

WPR can't give an accurate assessment even when he is there for all the games.

Brett said...

I just want to have on record that I wasn't there for the last game just so when Johnny does the stats they can be as accurate as possible.

Joe is a serviceable defenseman. He's not Nick, but he's good enough. And he's not afraid to block shots. And let's not forget that I've played on a team with Jack Belan as my defenseman so....

Ron, I don't understand. You played games 4 and 5...

Ron said...

Billy I'm only a cog in the teams gear. The 4 team captains are the ones who can, or at least should, carry their teams to victory.

My star power is growing dim. Did you see last night I have to give Cindy my best move to get around her, and that almost didn't work. LOL

One of the only things I have on my side is hockey IQ, and that's debatable LOL, but I guess I can still take advantage of players who over commit and dish the puck to the open guy and I guess shoot when I have time and space

Ron said...

But last night was fun and I suffered no muscle strains, pulls or anything else that happens to old guys like me. Should be in for next week

Brett said...

Ron, "LOLs" might be acceptable in your own comments on hockey8.com, but here on thehomeoftherecap.blogspot.com you have to let other people lol at your posts.

LOL x2 Brett

Nick said...

i have to say I enjoyed the getting early thing.

JB said...

The best part is it was open and its still light out now.
Why do they lock it?
Are there a lot of people trying to swindle free dek hockey?

John said...

Maybe people have tried to steal the rink.

Mike D said...

it's covered by a tent if you really wanted in you just have to hop over the board...

Jared said...

It definitely won't last but that early start was enjoyable.

Johnny you posting some stats this week?

John said...

Yeah, I am going to try to finish up December this week, and I will post the results once I have them.

Ron said...

December stats? As in 2013???

If I was in charge I'd say step into my office, your fired.

Don't look now but my team is healing up nicely and ready to go for the Haverhill Cup.

Please list Reggie as Probable for Sunday!

Ward is recovering nicely from his weekend video game binge, he's back in!

Ron is healthy and is ready to go as well.

I checked out hockey8.com today and noticed that brendon played ice hockey a few weeks back and complained his stick was too short. Is this a true story?

Mike D said...

Granted I was late this week, but we people regularly get there early/ on time, open the rink, & start as quick as we can everyone will be more apt to make sure they show on time especially if we say that if you show when game already in progress you have wait till next game before you can play...

JB said...

Haha orange crush. I like it.

Brett said...

With Darrin and Tony as goalies this week, we should be all set to play right at 6. And with everyone already in, we don't need to wait to pick teams.

Nick said...

Pick'em up!!!

John said...

Brett, did you talk to Darrin or Tony already, and are they definitely in? I already had lined up my father to play net and was going to check with Steve today.

Brett said...

Yes. Tony said last week hed play sunday. And darrin said he was in. Ill double check with both of them just to make sure.

Brett said...

I'm guessing 6 o'clock this week too?

Brett said...

Tony is a definite.

John said...

6:00 for this week. Let me know about Darrin for sure. We can plan for Darrin next week if not.

Billy the Kid said...

Inside or Outside?

Brett said...

Darrin's in for next week

Jared said...

We will be sure to bank on him 100%. Has he backed out of the Haverhill cup yet?

Brett said...

Jared sounds alot like frendon with that last post. Minus the cerebral superiority.
