WEEKLY POWER RANKINGS

10-26-14

Rick Estimate

5 Jared - A true captain doesn't let a 3 goal lead slip away like that. The Alliance will be looking to strip his C, and maybe even his roster spot from him for Montreal, injury or no injury. Billy, put in your application.

4 Nick - Icing

3 Borges - Watching Nick and JB back there on defense gave me flashbacks to league games. The league games where they weren't giving up 6 goals a game trying to protect the crease of that scrony goalie Nick who just started playing net the week before.

2 Brett - First game out in 7 months and was expected to carry the team. It was only when dark team captain lost all hope of winning that Brett stepped up and led the team to their only win of the night.

1 Mike (not Demaio) - JB was confident he could focus on defense with a force like Ward wreaking havoc all night up front. Mikes performance in game 2 will go down in Saugus history as the 64th greatest single player performance.

Honorable Mention: Steve - That save on Jared was memorable.

Brett needs to play out. He's arguably the best talent we have, in either zone, and IMO it's a total waste to play him in goal.

As far as Montreal goes, I say lets bring Steve up next year, he's a hard working elder, let's pay his way. Course we would have to continue to tow the line with the likes of Elmira and that steak house I loved so much

Jared said...

I think Steve would give up goals in bunches up there.

I like that reference TMJ, and if it's anything like my famed reference aforetime then we might be good!!!

Nick said...

People mock the icing a bit too much. I admit that I lean on the side of icing maybe a little too much but it's weeks like last like last night were people see the value in it.

and btw I had some great outlet passes last night!!!!

John said...

I called the rink and 7:30-9:30 is open on the outside rink for Friday. Who can play?

John said...

Ron, Montreal might be a different story, but we always seem to struggle to find goalies each week. We can try to diversify a bit more in net so that he can play out, but it's nice only needing to get 1 goalie each week.

With that being said, this week since he is not sure that he could make it on time we can have Rick and Steve play net and Brett can play out when he gets there.

Brett said...

I think we all like steve as a person and friend. But a goalie for montreal? B team should be asking but not A team.

Mike D said...

Already did, he's going be away in may / June, so he can't

Brett said...

Maybe we should go back to a free possession after an icing. Punish icing as much as possible.

I don't agree with the top 5! Take a close look at the top 5 in the win category! I may not score the most but the team motivatin I bring to a team is unmeasurable!!!

I don't agree with it either. Jared shouldn't have been top 5.

Is melo in for a trip to Montreal?

"PPP" the Professor said...

I know people think the professor has lost interest in the goings on of the Sunday Night Saugus Extravaganza, but the truth is on occasion I still come out to voice my opinion of the weekend that was.

Now because there are at least 1 or 2 new guys on the block, I should reiterate my long standing disdain for WPR's commentary. Sure there are times when he makes some sense, but for the most part I think WPR is a fraud of epic proportion.

Classic example is this last installment of his rankings. Brett number 2? Brett expected to carry the team? Was that a joke WPR? I know your not supposed to lol your own comment, but I LOL'd right off my lazy boy and into my captains chair to write about this wrong.

I guess it's true that Brett is no fan of WPR, but there ain't no doubt in PPP's mind that WPR loves Brett kinda like a mother loves a child.

Now that I got that out of the way... here is how the Professor ranks lasts nights standouts.

5th Star... The King of Saugus, Johnny Riley Johnny scored goals and assisted on others and was instrumental in setting up other goals that won't show up on the stat sheet. However, what makes Johnny deserve the Star treatment, ahead of Brett or Jared, is because he scored the Game Winner for Team Darks only victory of the night.

4th Star... Iggy gets the node for a couple reasons. One because he set the tone and scored a sweet goal from a nice pass that Iggy had to hit perfectly with the one timer, he then added in another goal from being in the right place at the right time. He shoulda had the hat trick on another chance in close. Second reason is the intangibles Iggy brings to his team, they say you can't measure heart, but you can see it and feel it during the game.

3rd Star... Nick played outstanding D the other night. He has a knack for laying out to block the pass on 2 on 1's that few people in Saugas can match (notice I said few- there are some other contenders on D out there). Nick pitched in to help his team on offense too, with some nice shots on goal, one of which was an assist and at least one other that lead to a goal.

2nd Star... JB showed his all around skill by being a rock at the point. He blocked several pass attempts from Jared and Johnny. JB also took the offensive play when the opportunity was there for the taking. JB showed not only he's an awesome defender but a team leader getting the subs rolling in and out in regular intervals. JB raises everyone's game by setting a great example, plus who else sweats out at least 2 quarts of water per game!

1st Star... Mike Ward was not only the teams energizer bunny, but he was the difference maker in both games that Team White won the other night. Mike showed that he doesn't need Jared to shine. His relentless forecheck, combined with his ability to find the back of the net was on display in full color Sunday night. On top of his offensive prowess, he can play great on defense too. Mike was a the difference maker for Team White and easily deserves the Number 1 Star.

Honorable MentionThe Prater boys. Those two guys are blossoming before your eyes this year. They wreaked havoc on the forecheck, which lead directly to goals for team Dark, one of which was a forced error on Brett. When they gain about 20 more pounds, their going to be fun to watch and play hockey with.

Nick said...

I gotta say I like PPP's ranking better this week.

He ranked me higher.

Nick said...

I am confused about one thing though

Does WPR not appreciate cheap shots?

What about holding?

"How do you like my meaningless goal???!!?? What now???!!"

Nick said...

Johnny I am in for Friday

Nick said...

Is Frendon alive?

Nick said...

I will say some people use Exclamation points haphazardly...Ignads does not. They are warrented

Nick said...

Jared how is the ankle?

Are we allowed to ask yet?

Nick said...

make sure you read my baseball conversations with keith law...hate that guy

Nick said...

Im being followed by Marnie Smith.

she sounds interesting.

she likes "all normal things really"

Brett said...

Its nice that ppp finally brought some justice to this site and called out WPR. Nick, is there anyway you can block WPR from ever posting his stupid rankings ever again?

Brett said...

I do wish the professor was funny once in while though.

Billy the Kid said...

Nick, were you lonely last night? 9 straight posts? It was like you were having a conversation with yourself....

Jared said...

Nick, it's not important how my ankle is, all that matters is that JB didn't touch me.

Me, Ward, Drew, and Ignads are all in for Friday.

Mike D said...

There was like 1/2 inch between JB & the boards.. Not his fault you didn't fit

JB said...

I'm glad I have a witness. Now I'm starting to think griff has gotten a bad rap. Jared likes to run around recklessly and injure himself. Fortunately he healed in time to tell Drew how unacceptable every part of his hockey game is.

JB said...

Also it's nice to have the true wisdom of the professor back.

John said...

Stats are up...I will post who is in for Friday later today or tomorrow. We will be missing Austin and the Praters, but mostly everyone else seems to be in.

John said...

Just a quick commentary...losing two out of three was lousy, but outside of that I thought Sunday night's games were some of the best we've had this year. Lots of sloppy play, but in spite of that the games were all close and hard fought. When Jared subbed with the score tied in game 3 he was saying something to the effect of "just run as hard as you can to get the win".

Both teams being evenly matched and trying hard for each win made the games a lot of fun this past week. Congrats to the white team for getting 2 of them.

Billy the Kid said...

Mike D and I are in for friday

Brett said...

Pretty interesting that the professor left the top scorer for the night off his list, but me and him im sure would both agree that points dont always tell the story. Borges and nick were tied in points with 1 assist each but played shut down D......for the most part.

Brett said...

With that being said, sometimes points do tell the story.

Jared said...

Wisdom of the Professor? I say he's getting soft.

congratulating Ignads for almost getting a hat trick? Nick had some "nice" shots on goal? What is this T-Ball, everyone gets a participation trophy?!?

Johnny "assisted" on goals, hmmm let me check that stat sheet, 0 assists! Although granted PPP could be referencing Brendon's separate stat sheet.

Seems to me the Professor has lost his/her fastball.

Nick said...

"for the most part...." what a great qualifier!!

"PPP" the Professor said...

I don't usually post rebuttals, but since you all eat up my posts I will offer you a small treat.

I wrote my rankings on what I saw, not according to the stat sheet. I'm about wins and losses and not just about total points per night. However if someone dominated the stats and his team has a winning night, then even the likes of WPR would probably get it right (depending on who the player was of course--- so yes, that's open to interpretation)

That being said, had Brett's shot, that was stopped on the goal line, been irrefutably called a goal and thus putting an end to game 2... and team dark continues and still wins game 3, then obviously my rankings would of been much different.

Weekly Power Rankings said...

Well said TPJ. Well said. If PPP goes on "what he sees", he must have seen all Johnny's assists from the same spot on the bench where he could call off Brett's goal with so much certainty. Drink some water professor, your hallucinating.

"PPP" the Professor said...

Are you talking to me?

I said are you talking to me?

Umm, I don't watch games from the bench, I have a birds eye view.

I think your the one hallucinating... but I do look back on my college days when I lived threw the psychedelic era where I hallucinated plenty.

What I noticed on that play was that you couldn't finish! The goalie, Steve, stopped that shot, plain and simple and there are no goal cams. Did the ball fully cross the line as he had it pinned under his pad/foot? I don't know, just saw that there was a offensive zone faceoff.

The single camera I view the game from is pretty low quality, but I can tell that you look fatter then I remember Brett. Have you gained weight on the backside?

JB said...

Are you saying you saw the professor at hockey? Those are some serious accusations. He is always discreet and unnoticed.

Maybe if Jared stopped yelling at his team and built them up, they would start playing for him...I agree with the professors list. You can't teach the entangibles and you either have them or you don't!!

Brett said...

Borges, you're confusing WPR's illusive presence with that of the professor. We know the professor to be Ron. WPR's identity is still a mystery. And frankly if I were Ron, id be insulted if someone confused me with the hack that is WPR.

"PPP" the Professor said...

Does somebody need a hug? Ya I definitely think Brett needs to feel some love because he's just losing his ability to show a tiny bit of self control, tack, or anger... or just something I can't quite put my finger on. But hey it's ok, I could do a lot worse and be mistaken for some other dope that's not named Ron.

But I beg you WPR... please make sure you put your boy number 1 next week. It don't matter if the team he's on loses or even if he doesn't show up. Just make sure you do whatever you have to, to make sure all is right in your world. Maybe use a couple links to some highlight videos, ya that's it, I think that would do the trick.

Jared said...

we have two goalies for Friday Johnny?

I think we all agree Big Board is the only unbiased ranking system we have today. The Real Deal may be a close second, although he tended to overrate Joe and Lenny.

John said...

Yes, goalie-wise we are fine. Steve and Rick in net on Friday. For players we have: John, Jon, Nick, Jared, Ignads, Drew, Mike W, Billy, Mike D.

Haven't heard from: Griff, Ron, or Brett for sure yet. Austin and the Praters are out this week.

Nick said...

no frendon again?

John said...

Joe is in too...

John said...

Not sure...a couple of weeks ago he said it was indefinite until his ankle was healed. Not sure if it was worse than Jared's injury on Sunday.

Brett said...

I thought the professor didnt like to respond? Twice in one post suggests otherwise.

Mike D said...

You mean he has injury that hockey tape can't fix?
I didn't think that was possible

Just so everyone is aware I am in remission from my shoulder. I should be able to play on a Friday but we will see. I may just have them take the arm and then get a new one attached with a stick and spring attachment!! More to come on this...
