WEEKLY POWER RANKINGS

4-11-15

The Curse Is Broken (For Griff)

15 Brendon - As the 2nd to last pick in draft, Brendon played like the last pick in the draft. After Griff shattered his arm in six places, Nicks team had no shot at winning the cup. Make sure you send Nick an email letting him know how you feel about today's events.

14 Elliot - Funny how the player Brendon pleaded with Nick to trade for, did little all day. We can only imagine how they would've done on the same team.

13 Melo - He didn't cost his team any game; in fact, he played better than usual. It's just that he didn't win any games for his team. But if I were you Melo, I'd be blaming my team for not scoring enough. But just remember, you still weren't great. Full court, arching goals should never happen.

12 Iggy - He did what he needed to do. He cleared the ball, he blocked shots, and he only over committed leaving the other team with a 2 on 1 overtime game winner once.

11 Tony - Played good till the finals came. Angles were off, had holes in his jersey and dropped that glove nice and low for Griff to take advantage of.

10 Andrew - Nothing impressive. That is, until the playoffs. Andrew was carrying his team and being clutch while all his teammates were spent. Maybe all his teammates should have jogged every game during the season too.

9 MVW - Came flying out of the gate with the first goal of the day but cooled off quickly. What a difference a year can make. From MVP one year, to barely cracking the top 10 the next.

8 Borges - I don't know how much Brendon's slash had to do with it, but Borges didn't take over the game like he could have with his usual shut down defense. At one point he was even belly laughing during play. You might think it's a joke, but going 4 years with no Haverhill Cup victory is an even bigger joke.

7 Joe - The small rink was a blessing for Joe. Too small to go around him and there's no way you're getting through the classic knee slide. Blocking shots all day and chipping in with key goals especially with The GW in the clinching game.

6 Jared - Recounting an event accurately was never Jared's strong suit. With Johnny "firing" the ball at the net and with his shot hitting the "dead center of the net" but more surprising was that scoring goals wasn't his strong suit in this year. He has to be disappointed that his most memorable plays was losing to Johnny in every way after he slashed his stick. But I guess he did get the last laugh.

5 Johnny - He did his job for sure. He scored goals all day and even into the playoffs. One of these years he'll get to the finals. Maybe the year we drop down to 2 teams he'll win.

4 Nick - He had to make the trade. He really did. And Brett thanks you from the bottom of his heart. But Nick stepped up his game by throwing some goals in the ocean (albeit during celebration time) which helped to pick up the slack of his teammates.

3 Brett - He played great. He had some good defense in front of him, but Brett was good at weathering the momentum of the other teams and making sure it didn't amount to anything. Goalies ended up being a bigger factor than I thought. I mean way bigger.

2 Griff - Take that monkey off your back and shoot it in the face. Griff stepped up his game big time. According to Brendon's database, Griff played 843% above his normal quality of play in this years Haverhill Cup.

1 Ron - What a display Ron put on this year. Instead of being buried on defense like last year where Jared wouldn't let him shine, Ron took control, dumped Jared on Nick, and carried his team to glory with goal after goal after goal. Ron was controlling the ball and being so gritty and borderline illegal that It would've made Demaio proud. Unanimous MVP for the 2015 Haverhill Cup.

Excellent job again boys...even though I can't move, I am covered in bruises and welts and my hands ache, I am proud to have played with my team yesterday!!! True grit boys, great job!!! This also proved that the true batman and robin is not Jared and Ron or MVW and Ron, maybe the true dynamic duo is Ron and Iggy!! Two in a row and looking foward to our Third!!!

And did someone at some point ever look over and see Borges eating a large Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich with a TALL glass of milk? Just seems like a very strange all day hockey tournament snack!!

I'm proud that I was able to bring the best out in Johnny. If only he could play with that type of fire more often!

My regiment of PB&J didn't work out this year. Next HC I'm going with Big Macs. My heart reacts much better to something greasy and artery clogging.

Borges I suggest something like s hearty plate of Mac and cheese or maybe even Fondue for next year..

I got 9 minutes before getting ready for meeting, should prob start now cuz I'm feeling it in the legs.

I don't always agree with WPR but I think he nailed it with each slot in the rankings. The comment that I was "being so gritty and borderline illegal" had be busting out laughing.

With the big trade I was hoping for big things from Griff and wow he delivered the goods.

I never doubted Brett would win games for us. He should have had more then 2 or 3 shutouts if he would of tried harder.

While the ball wasn't "fired" at Tony by Johnny it was completely unnecessary. I didn't hate that penalty

I hated the Frendon penalty.

There should be a 4th man award...I have been the 4th man on two HC teams now and what's my teams record, 2-0...does it get any clearer as to who this award should go too? How many times did I get yelled at for holding on to the court door? 3...hoe many goalies did I hold off the Ice for an extra 5 seconds because I would not let him thru the door 1....open your eyes people!!

Since I reviewed the WT beforehand, I had time to reflect during the WT study hehe

So I noticed in the finals we were getting some hate from the peanut gallery in the stands. Why was that?

Could it be from Ignads exuberant and over-confident attitude, taunting the opposition that we were gonna win the championship?

Or from Brett slamming the door on everybody's hopes with stellar goaltending play during the regular season and playoffs, ultimately proving that goaltending does matter on HC Saturday?

Or perhaps it was that the oldest man on the court... a 48 year old was dancing around the young folk scoring goals in bunches (had to throw that in there). He was unstoppable proving you guys got some more learning to do

Or could it be from Joe's quiet confidence of great defense and a smart awareness to know when to push on offense?

Or was it from Griff who manhandled anybody who came into his (eh hem large) space while providing great defense and terrific offense that set the tone for what would ultimately become a championship run?

Or finally was it from Bobcat... the completely biased ref that had the calls going in our favor? And ummm he was on paper on our team of course. Who made him head ref anyways?

So I guess in hindsight, yeah, I can see what you guys hated on us, but too bad suckers cuz all that's playing in my head is Queen... "we are the champions my friends... blah blah... there's no time for losers cuz we are the champions of the world, i mean haverhill cuppppp

Remember when Jared told me to shut up because i was complimenting my own teammates a lot? Maybe Jared should've tried building frendon up instead of demeaning him in front of his peers. Not once did i ever hear Jared tell frendon "Good Job". Not once!!!

Does anyone remember Nicks intense screaming at one point for everyone to take a man and a stick while sweating in the semi finals? If he only had blue face paint on it would have been very much like William Wallace in BraveHeart

Ron said...

Ya whatever happened to Jared's acronym TPJ.

In addition to demeaning his teammates over and over, how long was he going off about that no goal that he called as in and out? I think heard him talking about it after the tourney was done.

I think Jared needs to go on a retreat to find the old team player he once was. A true captain is supposed to make everyone around him better.

Ron said...

Actually I think I know what might bring the old TPG back to us...

Study the Avatars closely of Jared. Can you see the humble guy, the team player in every sense of the picture?

Then comes the swagger of him over thinking his hockey IQ

Finally the full frontal look of pure unadulterated over-confidence in his abilities that has lead to the player we saw on display yesterday.

Come on Jared, I have confidence you can find the player you once were. I think I know exactly what to bring you for the Ottawa hockey party

Ron said...

Iggy I missed your comment about Nick. I think I was written out mine and we overlapped.

Anyways ya Nick was so intense during that span of time. Definitely had the William Wallace feel to it.

Semi finals nothing. A victory is a victory. They had to battle hard in that game.

Nick are you getting writers crap from that recap you were all pumped to write yesterday at Fridays?

Brett said...

ill post the vid after Nicks recap. NO point in recapping if there's a video.

Jared said...

Hey 2 out of 3 aint bad Ron! We put everything we had into that 1st game and ran out of gas. I just hope Ron and Brett don't get fat and happy come Ottawa next month.

Brett said...

Our roster had the most ottawa players on it. No wonder we were so awesome

JB said...

I'm already on the heart transplant list. So I don't worry about taking care of my heart anymore. It feels nice to have a backup.

Plus I need Ron to start proofreading his posts so he doesn't make up terms like writers crap. That sounds painful.

Ron said...

Haha ya I typed up so many comments on this post my fingers got loosey goosey.

Iggy, how many asterisks do you want next to your name
