Well it's only Monday. We have four people committed with no goalies currently. Looks like we should have enough guys by Friday afternoon, at this rate.
Except by then, the rink will be taken by someone else, and we'll have to skip this week, too.
it is legitimate...we take 3 days to figure out who wants to play then we find out the rink is booked, half of us can't/won't play sunday at 8 and its over...big waste of time.
While we are trying to figure this all out, please re-post with whether or not you can do a Sunday night game from 7-9 or 8-10pm just in case... (The Pats are playing from 4:30-7:30pm, FYI)
Also, who would be interested in trying to get a Saturday afternoon/night game? I'm game for Sat...
Brendon, you were upset last week when we had to cancel because we booked the rink without getting enough guys. It's only Tuesday and we were ready to book the rink after having what seemed to be enough guys and they were already booked. You can't have it both ways. Either we book early and take the risk of needing to cancel or make sure we will have enough players and then risk it not being open.
Back on topic, who would be able to play on Sunday (or Saturday). My father can play the other net so with Dave and my father at least goalie is taken care of. We could do earlier on Sunday too but then that rules out Brendon and the Praters, so 7-9 probably makes the most sense if everyone can do it.
Yeah, we shouldn't cancel if we book, so we need to be careful about that. What I'm upset about it when people bail on us last minute, causing us to cancel. We would have had enough to play last week but people whined about not having a full 5-on-5 game, and they bailed.
Solution: Either-- A) Commit early so we can book the rink early knowing we have enough to play or B) If everyone is going to drag their feet, then we book it early and hope for enough guys, but if we don't get 5-on-5, don't whine and bail on us. Stick to your commitment and play 4-on-4 or whatever.
How much earlier on Sunday? Like noon or 1pm? That could work for me...don't know what the rink availability is yet, but it's a moot point until we know what everyone else can do. I suspect there are plenty of other Sunday meeting times that will conflict with it, so I'm guessing that Saturday might be our best shot, anyway, now.
Once again, don't know what the rink times are for Sat, but I'm not going to call up again until we at least have enough people who are available to play on Sat.
Please change the name of this site from "Home of the Recap" to: "Who can play this Friday? We want to book the rink, but only after we get enough guys..."
Guys, thanks for all your responses today. Looking forward to playing this week. But just to be safe, I'm making separate plans for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Unless we play. Which we wont...
I have my browser set to auto-refresh and automatically ping me when there are no replies and then auto-berate you with sarcasm when replies <= 0
I also work all day, but I can manage posting an IN/OUT message on a blog. Do you guys work in coal mines or what? Time to quit those jobs if they are interfering with hockey.
I'm pretty sure Friday is the night. Dave being away and Jared not playing last week are rare occurrences. JB said he would much rather Friday. Praters seem like they like Friday. Why don't we just book Friday early every week? I'm sure we will be playing most weeks. With only 1 rink we need to book it early!
no, that rink is definitely ruined. No chance its designed to be rained and snowed on. Best case, its in "great" shape but still wet from a rain storm 4 days prior.
Wait, didn't they rebuild that whole thing? I thought it was wrecked and they rebuilt it but didn't finish it yet...did they not touch it all? Am I mistaken??
@Nick, Then maybe you'd better start recruiting, because if you haven't noticed, it seems to take a perfect storm to have a 5-on-5 game with all the regulars nowadays...
@Billy, what about dracut? What was the reason we don't play there? I forget. Was it the expense? Or did they just not have timeslots where we could play for 2 hrs?
Since we are really BAD at getting people to commit early in the week, and it seems that most other folks book week-by-week, like we do, it is always a race to get it booked before them, and they generally beat us because we drag our feet.
WHAT IF, instead of trying to get people to commit on Monday, we get responses from everyone for the FOLLOWING week. So for this week, it looks like a no-go, but if we can get the same people now to commit to Friday Nov 25th (Black Friday), we can call up the rink and book it a week ahead of everyone else.
If we ALWAYS keep +1 week ahead of the curve, I think we can always have a rink booked.
The only caveat is: We need people to know what their plans are 1 week ahead of time and commit to us within 1 week. I think that's plausible, though.
Hey guys I'm trying to get a team together to enter in a dek hockey tournament/league/crossfit every friday or sunday. Who's in? Just 10 bucks a guy each week. 7-9 at night so no early games which is good. Playoffs I think switch to Thursday nights.
Get there early so we can talk lines and strategy and which design we like for new team jerseys.
1. Friday seems to be out because the rink is taken 2. Sunday we'd have: me, Dave (G), Jack (G), Brendon, Jared, Ward and haven't heard from anyone else yet. Billy (and presumably Mike D), Nick would be out.
3. We could switch to football Saturday afternoon this week.
Cmon Nick, one week ahead is not that big a deal. What, You can't plan ahead a whole week? Do you know what clothes you are going to wear tomorrow or is that also a huge daily planning struggle?
Billy, you know that it's booked this Friday right? We should be playing this Friday but the Saugus rink is already booked. We can ask them if we are able to play outside, but that's probably our only option. Not sure where else there is indoor dek hockey.
This is where I agree with Brendon to an extent. We can book it, but we need to make sure that if we book it we are going to commit to the time, otherwise the rink gets upset. If we end up with only 8 or 9 guys on a particular night then that is what we have to go with. This week we were able to decide by Tuesday morning but it was already gone.
With that being said, I am not sure if they will be open next Friday (day after Thanksgiving), but if they are then maybe we can play a bit earlier.
Are you kidding? By the time the goalies are ready and we finish wasting time like usual and everyone getting there late, we will get 12 minutes of playing time. Only chance is if everyone agrees to arrive 45 min early to be sure we get a full hour.
I'm guessing Black Friday is a no-go for everyone with plans, so in that case, please plan for the following week (without me, since I'm on vacation) - Dec 2nd.
After that, if you make plans for the week after that, which is either Friday Dec 9th, or sometime in 2021 (ask Nick), I will be IN for that week, and weeks to follow.
This is getting pretty tiresome trying to coordinate everyone's plans when we don't have enough info to go on. You guys can take it from here...
Well, actually, I DO have career stats on my site...but they aren't very accurate, according to popular opinion ... In my DB, Jared is actually leading John by 53 points for career totals ... but that's probably a result of me somehow cheating and fudging all the stats to benefit me in my favor ...

Frendon is panicking. It's only Monday. It'll be all right.

With that said frendon is hilarious.
I thank you...
Dave is in. It looks like Elliot and Andrew too, and Elliot asked to play net.
That's enough to book the rink, I think. Should we book tomorrow?
So far we have: Dave(G), Elliott(G)
Me, John, Jared, Ward, Billy, MikeD, Nick, Andrew
Haven't heard from: JB, Brett, Ron, John F, and anyone else I missed...
Did you book the rink?
I think we should book it.
Yeah, I think you should, too. :)
John, did you book it already? Kelly says they only have one hour available this Friday 7-8pm.
Or did we actually miss out because we were too slow, just like I said would happen??

Who can play and when?
Don't all speak up at once...

Guys, thanks for all your responses today. Looking forward to playing this week. But just to be safe, I'm making separate plans for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Unless we play. Which we wont...
some of us work during the day...some of us hit refresh all day.
For crying out loud frendon.
I out for sunday. In for saturday. football?
I have my browser set to auto-refresh and automatically ping me when there are no replies and then auto-berate you with sarcasm when replies <= 0

Can we risk booking the outside rink with no roof as long as the weather looks ok for Friday night?? I believe the lights work....just no roof...
no, that rink is definitely ruined. No chance its designed to be rained and snowed on. Best case, its in "great" shape but still wet from a rain storm 4 days prior.
No no no
Wait, didn't they rebuild that whole thing? I thought it was wrecked and they rebuilt it but didn't finish it yet...did they not touch it all? Am I mistaken??
In for Friday and Sunday. I could play football sat afternoon but can't play that night.
When you guys say in for Friday, does that mean Friday at 10pm? Because we don't have the early time slot...
Frendon when I say I'm in...I mean I'm in for a normal 5 on 5 game of hockey. Not a forced week of 4 on 4 w 2 guys who have never played before.
Should I add that qualifier every time I write "I'm in" ?
Is there possibly another place we can play? With only 1 rink, Saugus isn't reliable.
Dracut is booked every night with leagues.
Leominster, MA has 3 outdoor rinks we could potentially use until we get some heavy snow. Not sure if that's too far for most of you.
Leominster? Yeah, no thanks...That's almost as nuts as Brett coming up to Saugus from Braintree to play :)
Ok, I think I have an idea...Hear me out:
Since we are really BAD at getting people to commit early in the week, and it seems that most other folks book week-by-week, like we do, it is always a race to get it booked before them, and they generally beat us because we drag our feet.

Thoughts?
Why don't we join a friday night league. People seem to only like playing if the word league or tournament is used to describe it.
Because we have commitment problems...I'd be ok with it, but I doubt enough people would be willing to commit regularly.
Watch this

Also we'll do the Haverhill cup draft at BWW.
Who is definitely in?
I'm only in if someone volunteers to quit on the team in the playoffs so they can video tape
Ok, looking at this week right now:
1. Friday seems to be out because the rink is taken
2. Sunday we'd have: me, Dave (G), Jack (G), Brendon, Jared, Ward and haven't heard from anyone else yet. Billy (and presumably Mike D), Nick would be out.
3. We could switch to football Saturday afternoon this week.
We should decide by tomorrow so we have enough guys for either option. We have some different guys for football so we'd have to ask them soon.
@Brett, Thursday nights is Salem's meeting. (Tuesdays are mine, and Wed is for Jared/MikeW)
Unless all games are played on a day where it won't conflict, I don't see how this would work...
It's pathetic we have plenty of guys for Friday and we are not playing.
@Billy, what did you think about my idea for planning a week ahead? Do you think that will solve this going forward?
im in for Friday April 8th 2021
Cmon Nick, one week ahead is not that big a deal. What, You can't plan ahead a whole week? Do you know what clothes you are going to wear tomorrow or is that also a huge daily planning struggle?
As I said before. Friday is the night. Pretty sure everyone is in for Friday unless they have extenuating circumstances.
Frendon has to plan on what he's going to wear the next day?
Billy, you know that it's booked this Friday right? We should be playing this Friday but the Saugus rink is already booked. We can ask them if we are able to play outside, but that's probably our only option. Not sure where else there is indoor dek hockey.
Of course I know Saugus is booked. What I am saying is everyone is committed to Friday night. Try and book it a week ahead!
This is where I agree with Brendon to an extent. We can book it, but we need to make sure that if we book it we are going to commit to the time, otherwise the rink gets upset. With that being said, I am not sure if they will be open next Friday (day after Thanksgiving), but if they are then maybe we can play a bit earlier.
If they are open, I am in for next Friday (black Friday). I am out the following week on vacation Nov 27 - Dec 3 though.
Me and ward are gone next Friday because we live the same life. One hour doesn't sound bad this Friday!
Are you kidding? By the time the goalies are ready and we finish wasting time like usual and everyone getting there late, we will get 12 minutes of playing time. Only chance is if everyone agrees to arrive 45 min early to be sure we get a full hour.
12 minutes doesn't sound bad either
I'm guessing Black Friday is a no-go for everyone with plans, so in that case, please plan for the following week (without me, since I'm on vacation) - Dec 2nd.
After that, if you make plans for the week after that, which is either Friday Dec 9th, or sometime in 2021 (ask Nick), I will be IN for that week, and weeks to follow.

My availability for each of the following fridays
In out in in in in out out maybe in in in in out vacation tournament in in in in in(only if it's 5 on 5) in out in.
In for tonight
why don't we try to play this coming Wednesday?
Everyone has Thursday off and I doubt Saugus is booked that night
I'm in for tonight too! Should be a lot of fun!
interesting idea mike, that could work for next week,if they didn't schedule league games.
Doesn't Jared and Mike W have their meetings on Wed???
In for wednesday
Is Wednesday an actual thing?
No. We are never playing again. But I'm in if we are.
Jared has his meeting on Wednesday so it's probably not very likely. I am planning for a week from Friday right now.
If we never play again, I'll have won my second scoring title in a row.
One would think with all this time off the career stats would be updated...
One would be wrong :)
Well, actually, I DO have career stats on my site...but they aren't very accurate, according to popular opinion ... In my DB, Jared is actually leading John by 53 points for career totals ... but that's probably a result of me somehow cheating and fudging all the stats to benefit me in my favor ...
Anyone playing hockey tomorrow? No? Ok...see you in a week or so...
