2019 HAVERHILL CUP DRAFT

Frendon: Johnny Brett Demaio Jack
Iggy: Nick Mike Meadows Billy D Dave
Jason: Drew Griff Jared Melo
Reggie: Ward Billy T Brendan Borges

Team Reggie: Reggie was determined to make a statement in the draft by outbidding everyone for the first pick in the draft in MVW. But Reggie wasn’t done as he again came out strong, bidding (some say overbidding) for Billy Thomas. But his next pick is what will make or break his team. A team that is pretty solid with its players as he added JB as his last pick. But its his goalie: a goalie that is pretty much an unknown. Brendan played…. how do I put this…. not great? A few years ago for the historically bad Fall River team. Sometimes he plays well as goalie on ice and other times you swear he’s letting goals in on purpose. At the end of the night, Reggie has the second best team.

Team Jason: Not a disaster. Which is kind of a disappointment as we were all expecting the worst. Jason was tight with the money and seemed to only bid on Brett because he liked him and not because he thinks hes a good player. Getting Drew (the clear 2nd ranked defense-man. Nick went for a dollar more) in the draft was an underrated pick up for Jason. But fearing that himself and drew weren’t enough defense, he went out and got Griff as insurance and put a lot of stock in Jared’s ability to score every goal for his team. Thankfully for Jared, that shouldn’t be too tough with this years crop of goalies. But Just like the Bruins, secondary scoring looks like it could be a problem. Third best team.

Team Grill Master: I’ve never seen a draft strategy work so well before. He had ice in his veins. That is until his first pick. Johnny is a really good player in the HC….when hes not hurt. But lets just say Frendon passed on Johnny and Iggy got him. That would've left iggy with Nick Johnny Dave demaio and iggy and would’ve left Frendon with no picks after 7 rounds. A problem you say? Not at all! Brett Jared Borges and Billy D were still in the pool!! Leading to what could’ve been a Brett and Jared and who cares who else is on the team team. Instead, Frendon wanted to relive the glory days of Saugus with a line of himself Johnny and Brett and hopes that spark is reignited. I have my doubts, mostly due to the fact that Johnny doesn’t adjust well to different playing surfaces. Forth best team. Could’ve been first. The burgers were delicious though.

Team Iggy: Things sure are lining up for Iggy’s 10th straight HC victory. The combo of Nick and Dave is a daunting duo to conquer for a goal. And its not like when Nick would draft a team and he’d get a good goalie and try to win a game 0-0. Iggy then went out and got Mike Meadows and Billy Driscoll. Questions remain. Questions about Dave’s longevity still remain, but Nick should be able to lessen the load this year. Questions about Billy Driscoll being able to control his emotions when frendon does something stupid. And he will do something stupid. But the most important question left is who will they pick to play in the first round? My bet is they’ll take Frendon’s team as it’ll most likely come with a free penalty shot to start every game in the Playoffs. Best team…...for now.

I’m sticking by my strategy. Jack is my secret weapon. He’s gonna play the series of his life. You’ll see. It will come out of the blue and no one will see it coming. He might be old, but he’s gonna play like young jack of fifteen years ago, ...which, I guess is still old...but I digress. Age is just a number. I have full confidence in Brett captaining the defense and Johnny captaining the offense. I’ll be the captain that calls the timeouts when Jack looks like he’s about to fall over.

I’m not throwing in the towel. I’m looking to repeat. No guts no glory. I’m all in on my team and my team is all in, like it or not...

Unless someone gets injured in the next two weeks, in that case it’s a redraft and you should ignore everything I just said.

Melo looks like a steal for 11 after last night. Dave also outperformed his purchase price

Eh. Melo should have saved it all for the cup. He just used up all his good moves he's been saving up. Now he's back to square one.

I played well enough to give my team hope for the HC. All necessary, in order to shatter any elevated expectations with my typical mediocre goalkeeping. Stats don’t lie, I’m not good!

Our teams only hope is if the playoffs drag on into dusk so I can showcase my owl-like skills that helped win the last HC I played in.

I’m bringing night vision goggles for jack, so you’re sunk, Melo. :-P

It has occurred to me that it might rain this sat. I’ll be there rain or shine and if you guys don’t show you forfeit. That’s another year holding the title. Or maybe we just have the only complete team to show up take it home. How bout that?
