Introducing Player Cards

I've been talking about it for a while, but finally was able to get version 1.0 posted. Pretty simple, the Player Cards link in the stats section takes you to a different web site where the player cards are. Once there you can type in part of someone's name (first or last, it doesn't matter) and find the person whose card you want to view. Clicking on the front of the card will take you to the back, and clicking on the back of the card will take you back to the front of the card.

Some notes:
  • Every player who has played on a night we've done stats is included
  • I am very far behind in this season's stats (season 13) so there aren't many here for this season yet
  • Colors / fonts are pretty basic right now.  I can update the design later if there are any suggestions
  • There are many players that I did not know their last name, so their last name might simply be the first name of the person that brought them (or some other characteristic)
  • No goalie stats yet
  • The position, profile description, and pictures can all be updated for everyone.  In many cases the description will simply show up as a "null" which means nothing in tech-speak.  Maybe some of our guest writers like WPR or Big Board would like to write some of the profile descriptions,  If anyone wants to send me what they would like theirs to be, or specific images then they can.

Next to do:
  • Update this year's stats
  • Add a compare feature
  • Add goalie stats to the card
Let me know what you think.  Hopefully we can decide by tomorrow if we're going to have enough guys to rent the rink on Friday / Saturday.

Lol, I searched for Martino and got three hits: me, and two people that came with me before...I might be old, but I’m not THAT old — those aren’t my kids! #techdatafail

You brought them, they are forever your responsibility...unless you give me last names.

When was this concept of player cards first discussed? Ten years ago? I wonder if we can get a specific date. Then we can figure out how long this took and compare that with how long it takes John to update season stats and see which one he is faster at. :-P

Not that I have enough free time to do it either.....

I only started doing anything with the player cards about three weeks ago. The good thing is that in order for this to work I had to put the database up in the cloud...which means at some point other people could update the stats too.

I’m out for Friday...potentially in for Saturday if we play.

What’d you use for a Cloud service, John? AWS?

Azure

Let me know when we all have access to the DB in the cloud so I can run amuck with it :-D. Jared thought he had stats....wait til he sees it after I’m done with it...

Are player cards down? I cant see anything when click on the link and enter a name. I tried firefox, chrome etc..

Tequila Mockingbird said...

No, it’s up, I just checked with Firefox mobile. Try clearing your cache. If that doesn’t work, “have you tried turning it off and on again”?

Lol, I looked up Reggie’s card....John listed his position as “couch”

John said...

Reggie, did you press the search icon?

Reggie said...

I did!Its working now. last name is spelled Saladin lol. Great Job Johnny. It will be fun to see the cards as they get filled out completely.

Tequila Mockingbird said...

Filled out completely? Accurate names? That task is scheduled for 2038

If anyone in the future needs to book the rink, I have posted a sidelink for your convenience.
