Welcome to 3 stars! Fair and Balanced! These are the guys who really mattered this week and not just the best players there.
No. 3 star: Steve F. No softies allowed as he was on his game. There was at times consistent pressure and his solid play allowed his D to take more chances.
No. 2 star: Brendon. When a trade is made after a 5-0 game, the receiving team wins 5-0, that is a game-changer! He was consistent, involving his teammates and didn't once complain about an injury!!
No. 1 star: Joe N. Even though he's shorter, he was the Zdeno Chara of the white team's D. He was the anchor. He was the wind beneath their wings. Yes, his solid play helped the white team carry the play for most of the night.
WPR's rankings are not fair nor balanced. That is why 3 Star Draw was made. We already know who the best players are. But we want to know who was outstanding this week, who made a HUGE difference.
If the No. 2 star is not enough for you, then it is YOU who is not fair and balanced!
Offense does play a key role and that is why you were No. 2 this week. Out of the 16+ players there, you were No. 2. I do not see that as an insult. Perhaps if you were a true two-way player this week, that may have made the difference.
This blog is starting to suck with all the stats whoring.. im just saying as a casual outside observer/non-player... people all of a sudden are talking about themselves and not referring to the team concept. Im sensing some ego inflation. I understand the value of being recognized for development in skill and talent. But to have people complaining for not being recognized for accomplishments is kinda lame. But who am i but an mere casual spectator who used to play.

hey I wasnt playing defense the first game it was Dale!!!!
Thanks alot Brendon..If It was me I would have given you the 1st star over me ...you did turn things around. Dont say I was playing D when I wasn't I started out at wing ...1st Game was all Dale's fault!!!
Brendon, i can't even begin to describe to you how badly i want the last 5+ minutes of my life back while i had to read all this crap you posted throughout the day.
I take everything I said back. I was wrong. I'm ashamed that I couldn't admit that I was wrong and I didn't really give you the credit that you deserve, Brendon. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. I have been on The Power Rankings #1 spot before, and I would have been upset, too, if the #1 place went to someone who played well, but not quite enough to deserve it. I guess that really is a backhanded compliment now that I think about it.
That last comment was a fake. I do not apologize for my rankings. It is fair and balanced, regardless of your own personal agenda. And the fact that John didn't score a goal shows that defense played a key role that night. That's more outstanding than your career night.
No, that last comment was a fake. Someone is obviously trying to make me look like a jerk when in fact I did apologize for my insensitive comments I made earlier.
First of all, let me get this out of the way: you played very well this week. It was your best week in a long time.
That being said, coming onto the site and trying to get people to talk glowingly about your performance (and when that fails doing it yourself) makes you look like a tool.
You played great this week, but it was preceded by several weeks where you were very bad. If you work up the consistency you will get more recognition. I also can't say for sure you were the best player on your team...Joe played very well, and both Jared and Billy were good last Sunday. I don't remember who played the best.
As for why I've been quiet this week on the board: I have been EXTREMELY busy at work - part of the reason it took so long to get the stats done. When I had a chance I was planning on noting that I thought you had a good week, but it's a little too late on that one now.
"Because defense wins championships" - this phrase is largely applied to football, and almost never applied to hockey. That's not to say that defense isn't needed in hockey, but a great defensive football team is more akin to a great goaltender in hockey. In football, your defense can win the game for you if the game is close, and so can a goaltender likewise. Unlike hockey, however, in football the defense can score relatively easily on a blown play. In hockey, it is rare for a defenseman to go down the length of the ice on a breakway and score. That's not his position, and he'll likely give it up to an offenseman to score. Thus, hockey, unlike football, relies almost soley on the offense to outproduce the other team, whereas in football the offense need not score much at all if the defense is doing all the scoring. This is why, since 1923, out of the 86 times the Hart Trophy has been awarded, only 13 times of 86 has a defenseman won it (85% of the time, a Goalie or Offenseman won), and even then, over Half the 13 awards were made up of 2 offensively-minded Bruins: 3 of those 13 were Bobby Orr and 4 of the 13 was Eddie Shore; Defenseman who were also known for producing offense very effectively. Therefore, though it may be an obvious statement to make, offense wins you hockey games, not defense.
Though it appears that at Hockeytown, whichever team plays the better team D, they usually win. I'm kinda on the side of defense can lead to good offense. I mean, is it easier to win a 2-1 game or a 6-5 game?
Witness: The New Jersey Devils of the trap-era. Not a great offense, but the wins racked up for them due to the D and goaltending.
Now individually, each position has its own value. But is it easier to have a Chara or a Savard on your team? Which instills more confidence in the ability to win games?
The Real Deal must step in again. First let me say that it’s good to see someone else who is fair and unbiased...Shout out to 3 Star Draw!!! This past Sunday night gave us just about everything hockey has to offer... A team that loses 5-0, makes a blockbuster trade and wins their next game 5-0. Good goaltending on both ends, good offense against good defense, one coach outcoaching the other, Bad tempers (which should not exist here), and good sportsmanship (which should).
Let me recap: FIRST about the 1st two games. It was fun to be part of it, be it on the black or the white team. Even better than the come from behind win a few weeks back.
GOOD GOALTENDING despite all the goal scoring this season, we've seen the best goaltending since Joe and Dave went at it. Steve and Jimmy (the next generation) both showcased their talent.
GOOD OFFENSE, immediately Brendon's name pops up. His game play Sunday was close to legendary. Like 3 Stars Draw said "When a trade is made after a 5-0 game, the receiving team wins 5-0, that is a game-changer!" and the reason you get my no. 1 star Brendon. (No matter what you say on this blog). I've always said that 'defense creates the offense. But, now I say 'you have no offense if you don't have a good offense'.
GOOD DEFENSE brings up your name, Joe. But, you’re neither my second star nor my third. Reason being...defense is boring so I guess I'm saying you’re boring. I mean we know what to expect from you and we get it every game and exactly how many times have we blogged about you on here? ...Exactly! New Jersey was a great defensive team but, ask the networks, boring to watch. Hats off to your defense though.
COACHING was definitely in Jared’s blood Sunday night. Even though you did start Joe on offense and Dale on defense, what were you thinking too? (Referring to John last week doing the same thing). 'Read my post'. But, you at least realized it and changed it up making you a part of Brendon's close to legendary performance. Well done Jared! You’re my second star.
BAD TEMPERS flared a bit in the last game. I should say a temper flared. Brett did step it up, but a little too much. Referring to the attitude and of course the season ending hit on Lenny reminiscent of the Samuelson hit on Neely. A few of the players on the white team said "We're just going to leave him alone and get this game over with before it gets worse". I'll just leave it at that.
GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP goes to Lenny for admirably not retaliating and the whole white team for following suit.
T R D's top 5:
1 - Brendon 2 - Jared 3 - Jimmy 4 - Steve 5 - The whole white team
Good points, everyone. There's only one thing I can be sure of: Even though I have been accused of being the Real Deal, I can assure you that I am not, nor ever have been. However, the one thing that I can be sure of is that the author of the "Real Deal" comments (of whom I think I know who it is) is, perhaps by accident, making it appear as though I myself am the Real Deal, and I am shocked that no one has again accused me of posting those last few comments from the Real Deal, but, (as I know that I am not him), I would just like to point out that someone else is actually sticking up for me! Thanks! P.S. My performance was not even close to legendary - that is complete bull plop, but thanks anyway.

Brett, parlez vous "sweep"?
You're not getting olut of the WPR this week, Brett. I demand WPR! I demand the Stat Guru to reappear! I demand that TRD never return again! HaHaha!

Because defense wins games! A veteran like you should know that.
Brendon is downgraded to No. 3 for his complaining.
Steve is now the No. 2 star!
Thanks, I'll take it!!

Forgot to add...I liked the Dangerfield quotes though...
That's fine, but you shouldn't take it personally. Sometimes things come up and people can't post during the week...it's not a conspiracy.
You're motivation should come from with in yourself and don't worry about what anyone else thinks
