I’m apparently still on the hook. I thought I was playing my cards right. I have been very quiet on the board, haven’t made any references to a “recap” of any kind, and I have (relatively) stayed out of any controversy. I even stayed away from rebutting Lenny’s comment this afternoon. Believe me; I wanted to respond to Lenny. But that’s how determined I was to make the recap a once and a while type of thing-I kept my mouth shut. I was doing my best to lay low. I failed. Thanks TPJ.
So, now I have no reason to hold back on Lenny. I’m sort of disappointed that Brett did a great job at making our point. I have nothing else to add. But this leaves me with no one to “rip” this week. Dale had no back-handed shots, Brad decided not to show again and Brendon was Brendon. So what (or who) does that leave me with? It’s not a good recap without controversy.
Week 3: “Like I always say, there is no 'I' in TEAM... there's a 'ME' though, if you jumble it up.”
Any guesses on where the quote is from? I haven’t had one of those in a long time. Enjoy?
Moving on…New Recap template added to the resume. Let me know what you guys think.
Week 3: A sit down with the “scout”
Nick: Where did game one leave you?
Scout: This was the best game of the night, despite the fact that one goalie tried to give away the game.
Nick: Tony?
Scout: Nope. But you were close.
Nick: It seems that playing any position, whether you are playing up or back, it is extremely difficult to play well when you don’t have help from your teammates. Is that a fair assessment?
Scout: Oh, I agree 100%. You are a hockey genius. You definitely know hockey better than Dale. I know he went to PEA, but wow! You are amazing.
Nick: I’m humble too.
Scout: Not one of your better qualities.
Nick: What were your thoughts on Brett’s play this week?
Scout: Well, it goes back to the help factor. He was only number three on my WPR but he could have easily been number one. Brett played defense, hustled, and made an innumerable amount of great passes. But, time and time again they were botched, miss handled or missed completely by his teammates. Even Johnny missed a few this week. He really disappointed me.
Nick: Before we “rip” Johnny, I have to ask, what did you mean when you said ‘my WPR’?
Scout: Perhaps I have said too much.
Nick: Are the scout and WPR one in the same?
Scout: Like I said, Johnny was not himself. I know he had 4 goals but he clearly could have capitalized more. His team needed him and he didn’t seem to step up.
Nick: Ok, so you were not a fan of John’s play, we get it. Back to the more important issue here…are you WPR?
Scout: Ranked number one in this weeks WPR was Jared, he had 8 goals, but only one assist. Jared doesn’t seem to do well in spreading the points. But it works this week I guess.
Nick: Do you see continued success for Jared at this magnitude?
Scout: Who is the goalie going to be?
Nick: I’m sure Jimmy is doing his signature laugh somewhere.
Scout: Perhaps he is at the never ending “Quick” build in Malden.
Lenny: SHUT-UP!!!!
Scout: What was that?
Nick: Didn’t you hear? Lenny yells at people when they make an astute and wise observation. It’s his thing.
Scout: What’s your thing?
Nick: Recaps, I guess.
Scout: You’re not very good at those.
Nick: I didn’t say I was “good” at my thing. (insert a comment that says this is a bad joke to automatically make this into a funny joke. This is Big Board’s thing)
Nick: Your thoughts on Reggie’s appearance?
Scout: He looked ok, I guess. He was surprisingly solid with his stick handling but at soon as he got past the defenseman he seemed to lose the ball. Hopefully he will play more consistently to get his shot “back”
Nick: Did you like my break-away?
Scout: I know I was shocked when you shot it right into the goalie.
Nick: Shall I move on?
Scout: I would.
Nick: Of the missing last night who did you miss the most? Dane or Brad?
Scout: Who’s Brad? Dane all the way, baby!
Nick: Don’t be using my “babies” now.
Nick: What was meaner, what Ariel did to Brendon or what Nick did to Ronnie?
Scout: It was mean that you put yourself in the same category as Brendon.
Nick: An oversight on my part.
Scout: I wish Brendon would post a comment. It makes your job so much easier.
Nick: Yeah, creating controversies is Brendon’s thing.
Nick: Prediction for next week?
Scout: Dave will yell the word “SCREAN!” several times.
Nick: That’s a given.
Scout: Well, it is his thing.

i know that recap was a quick read but it was an 836 word post. Im not sure I like the new format. I wanted something different. Keep it from being less long. That make sense? It didnt recap much of the games but it went over some player performance. Perhaps it will work better when Ron/Johnny already make a week recap? I dont know.
I want thoughts. Dont hold back
certainly some bumps in this. But i think it has potential.
SCREEEEEEN!!!!!!!! I'm all about the communication.
good job keeping stats dark team apparently white had 6 unassisted goals to dark's 1. Maybe white team can keep stats next week!
Glad to see you made the grade to blog posting 101.
My eyes weren't left burning in their sockets after reading it.
But a recap that wasn't... rather a fun insider interview with the scout, ok fine... Where is the content?
Nick, that was very entertaining...got almost as many chuckles as a Big Board post.
Maybe Dave will want to do the recap this next week.
Nick, maybe we'll have someone like PPP or myself type out a summary each week, and you can combine it with your new format.
I don't know aboutall the unassisted goals but I posted 3 of them because the said UNASSISTED when I asked
did john or brett sub at all during the last 2 games?
I did in game 3...not sure about game 4
Amazing. PPP posts a five-word recap and we get over 200 posts.
Nick posts a long recap and we have 11 posts so far. The moral: Keep it Simple Stupid.
good for brett
Injury Report
Team Alliance physician dealt Ron's season a severe blow today when he declared that his bruised butt, "is a major league bruise". Further tests were needed to determine the full extent of the injury. The doctor sent him for ex-rays to determine if any bones were broken.
During an impromptu press conference, that doctor was asked what the extent of the injury was. He replied, "with that size of a bruise, it's very possible that his pelvis was cracked. We'll know within a few days".
Ron refused an on camera interview, but said he doesn't believe the injury is a season ending one. Asked how soon could he play if no bones were broken, he replied, "I'm not sure, probably a couple weeks. Gotta wait to see that the doc says".
we had a 200 comment week because there was something to talk, i mean argue, about. plus this is the third post after hockey, the hype of last week is now over. But thanks for your insight
looks like ron is setting up a little hiatus for himself...what will Jared do?
i like that idea john. Its something new to add to the repertoire...I want the legend of the scout to grow. He has been around for 2 years now.
well this may be taken to the next level, as the posibility of camera and real game action plus maybe an interview or two has been thrown around.
and Nick, ron may be out but i've heard some rumors about some injuries on dark team.
more to come!
the quote is from House MD, lol
**FREE PICKUP DECK HOCKEY**
Every Tuesday for the month
starting at 7pm in Bedford NH
The guy that runs it has 7 definite guys and 1 definite goalie.
He's going to see what he can get by next Tuesday
Let me know if you interested
shoot me a email
did u say free?
whats the catch?
No catch, the guy that runs the sports complex is trying to drum up interest
so he wants what "we" created?
you need "special" personalities for that.
wpr=the scout?
Brett is out for the season.
His left hand got in a fight with a table saw and lost big time. But the saw was very bloody so it was kind of a draw.
Will have reconstructive surgery next week to repair some tendons.
It happened Tuesday morning in Boston(right near the hospital which was good)
He apologizes to everyone for messing up the set teams. But has agreed to tape the games when possible.
But he'll be on medical leave for a week or two from the blog as well. Doctors orders.
If you want a picture of the mangled hand on the site he has one.
He's already addicted to oxy-codone.
Hey Brett,
Hope surgery goes well.
Rest up.
thanks Mike. cant help but wonder why your still up though?
the saw got 4 of my fingers but i still have them all so that's good.
it could have been worse.... but not much worse.
And i didn't swear either
"And i didn't swear either"
thats the most amazing thing.
Get better brett.
brett is out 4-6 weeks
I woke up at 2am and was wide awake until like 5am
Sounds like none of them were completely gotten, right?
three of them got sliced the long way up to the second nuckle or so. but they all stayed on my hand. My pinky just got nicked a little bit. Thumb is ok.
My doctor looked like a mix between JD from the show Scrubs and Brendon.
what were you doing / trying to do?
Sorry to hear about the Injury Brett.
You too Ron.
Hope you both have a speedy recovery.
Brett, that's horrible...I hope it heals very quickly.
Brett, I still expect you to be ready for Montreal.
Yeah Ron, sorry to hear about your injury too...
The set teams didn't last too long, huh?
Sorry to hear that fellas. Brett, your injury seems more serious. Heal up and we'll see you when we see you. My brother tore up his finger on a tablesaw once - but he's fine now. Cut down to the bone. Fingers heal quickly as opposed to other body parts (guess which ones?).
Ron, I expect you'll miss no more than 3 weeks. After all, you don't want to lose your top 5 position in points (you could still be out for three weeks and get back into the top 5 easy)!
I think we need to re-pick the set teams. Any suggestions?
each side lost a guy so it's a wash
set team are still good
Suggestion for a slight change:
John
Brett (Injured Reserve)
Joel
Brendon
Matt
Nick
Lenny
Cam
Danny
Dave (G)
Jared
Ron (Injured Reserve)
Mike
Griff
Dale
Joe
Chris
Lee
Shane
Tony (G)
Why? Because Dale wasn't listed on a team before, and jared's team got him. So John's team needs another forward to balance that off.
John Jared
Joel Mike
Brendon Griff
Matt Dale
Nick Joe
Lenny Chris
Cam Lee
Danny Shane
Dave Tony
Yeah, those teams look pretty even. If anything I would say that jared's team has the advantage tho. You could argue the first 3 matchups to be a wash, but Dale over Matt is an advantage. Joe over Nick. Chris over Lenny. Lee over Cam. They have better defense. You would have to hope that Dave is that much better a goalie than Tony to even it up, IMO.
Yeah, that would have to be changed a bit since Jared's team is much better defensively. At the very least Chris / Lenny and Lee / Cam would have to be switched.
I demand a trade!
have brendon bring the camera stand and i can tape the games and edit them every week
only if you promise to still yell at jimmy...
what an interesting week 3
we all saw how set teams would be
it was a week we saw a lot
3 wins is what Jared got
Ron took a nasty fall
Hysterical when Brett screamed "Jareds got the ball"
Tony played awesome in net
frustrating John & Brett
John swung and did wiff
by the way were was Griff
something we all did see
was the return of Reggie
Funniest thing I did see
Brendon giving slapshot advice to Johny
(and John listening)
we will see the return of steve
in net Jimmy he'll relieve
Jimmy was quite the Siv
not much of a challenge did he give
John did not have Brad
on his team to make him mad
Little Ron came to play
well he came ;-)
Little Ron broke up Nick
with some handy work with his stick
we had Lee all geared up
and Lenny screaming "SHUT UP"
Dales the funniest story every told
still wearing bags because of mold
Joel Seemed pretty slow
hurt his leg, so you know
Jeff didn't seems sure where he should be
safest place would be back on D
Chris did a really good job
some good scoring chances he did rob
we saw Mike in the middle
Orchestrating the D like a fiddle
Matt was always on the attack
got a goal while on his back
With no Brett & no Ron
How will John & Jared carry on
It will be nice to see a save
from the man in net whose name is Dave
so what will we see in week four
no one really knows what's in store
By the way Brett, when we re-do all of the attribute ratings next summer, your injury rating is going to take a dive!
with both Ron and Brett out will there be a changing of guard?
If we do pick teams who will go first?
Who will pick up Bretts scoring chances?
It will be interesting to see
Suggestion to make it a bit more even? of course it all depends on if everyone shows up or not.
John Jared
Joel Mike
Brendon Griff
Matt Dale
Nick Lenny
Joe Chris
Cam Lee
Danny Shane
Dave Tony
Trade Nick for Lenny & that would even out the D on both teams speed & mobility wise
Just because i am not there i dont get set in the setting of the teams and was reggie not there last week
Terriffic grammar, Brad! If I can cobble together what you are saying, then you think that you (and Reg) should be included in the teams? Sure! But until you show up, you're not on one. Show up to find out where you will be! Reggie too!
I don't see trading Nick for Lenny helping out John's team at all. You already have Chris and Lee on D with Lenny. Giving you Nick leaves John just Lenny and Joe (if he shows up). So basically John has to drop a forward back on D or play a rookie (whoever shows up). You need to have one "veteran" on D for each side. Given that they might not all show up, I think this lineup is pretty even. Of course there might need to be a tweak if a lot of people don't show.
Lenny is as veterin as Nick just not as mobile
Joel might be out because he looked to be pain most of last week
Griff hasn't showed for weeks
So if each of them don't show call that a wash
Reggie showed last week
Brad should be back

Hey maybe we can have a page with everyone's status like this (like they do in football) and we can update the status each week as players get better or suffer setbacks. That would be kind a cool, huh?
Suggestion for team names:
Keeping with the Alliance/StarWars theme,
Team A = EvilEmpire
Team B = RebelScum
kinda getting sick of saying black team / white team etc. any other suggestions for team names?
how bout dark and light?
It's a big change from Black and White.
Or how bout the longnecks and the alliance.
if you recall, longnecks was almost the name of our team for florida 08.
I already miss you Brett.
I want you to keep the camera on Lenny all night Sunday and then make a tape of him being "aware" of Jared.
i'm gonna need 2 cameras. I'll call one the "Lenny Cam" and the other will be for game play
Take me off IR. xrays were negative... No cracked pelvis bone.
I've been upgraded to Doubtful.
Hey Brett just got the bad news. Must be tough to type. You never cease to amaze me. But I have to ask, did you cut yourself on purpose just so you don't have to change diapers? Ron I hope you OK as well but if you show up then the teams will be all messed up again. Mamma Mia!
John did you happen to check that stat on Me and Joe not ever being on the same team?
Ron we gotta capitalize these next few weeks with brett out and get some stats and victories over johnny. let's make lemonade out of lemons.
sorry to hear about that lost fight with a table saw brett, you'll get it next time.
Did your boss have to euthenize the saw after?
and another thing, ron questions the fairness of the teams and we get 230 posts, brett cuts his hand off and we struggle to get to 70
It's wednesday
WHERE'S BIG BOARD
WHERE'S BIG BOARD
WHERE'S BIG BOARD
WHERE'S BIG BOARD
WHERE'S BIG BOARD
WHERE'S BIG BOARD
theres not much controversy. I destroyed my hand. there's not much room for debate.
And i believe i was the one to suggest set teams. R?on just posted the teams he thought would be fair.
That's good news Ron. Matt, I checked - you and Joe have played in exactly one game together - I think it was last February.
thats weird...one game?
Hey big board, I cam through (sort of) where are you?
I'm/we're so tired that i couldn't even log in tonight. Plus with the injuries this week, BB is currently weighing options over a changed format.
suggestions are welcome and stay tuned for further updates/posts and the potential for a last minute board this week!
Brett is going in for surgery today to have 3 or 4 tendans repaired and 3 pins put in. One in each finger.
6-8 hour operation. 2 hours of actual surgery.
still keep him on your fantasy teams. He's a quick healer
I guess he'll do anything to get out of a part in the service meeting.
he hopes to see you all sunday.
Ah, Brett, that's awful. I broke my finger playing football before, and had a pin put in my finger for it, and it was the worst! Every time you even lightly bang it on something it kills! Plus for me it broke through the end of the finger, so it would get caught on things and the finger would get all infected. I can't even imagine how bad it would be to have multiple pins put in. Though the surgery itself wasn't bad, just the pins. Plus it'll take you forever to bend your fingers again once you get them out. Good luck, man.
except we dont pray to the gods of good luck so you mean best wishes, right? :)
Brett, hope the surgery goes well. I emailed the picture to Nick this time so he should have it up on the site today.
BTW, out of curiousity, which part did you have on the SM?
Dave, technically you weren't playing football :)
Haha you're right. I don't know what I was thinking. I was all ready to sacrifice my firstborn child to the goddess of luck and invoke her powers to save Brett's hand. Then again, part of the required sacrifice is to cut off my own hand, and well I just don't like Brett enough to sacrifice my hand for his.
So you're right. Best wishes Brett :)
And you're right, John. I wasn't playing football, it was in warmups beforehand when you threw me the ball and by your Amazing-Powers-Of-Throwing-A-Football-A-Million-Miles-An-Hour it broke my finger. I apologize for not giving credit where credit is clearly due. Then again, what brother ever feels pride in breaking his brother's finger?
John, clearly.
You forgot to mention how you broke your wrist too :)
it went well.
just very dizzy from the meds,
it was only announcements Johnny.
But this is for all the future parts i would have had.
I have a new born baby and only one good hand. The brothers wouldn't dare give me a part. Maybe a reading. but thats it.
i encourage all to do what i did. it's worth it in the long run.
no diapers
no talks
get paid for not working
Ariel does anything i ask her to.
I plan on doing it again next year after montreal
Yeah, but with all that free-time you still can't play NHL10!
"John said...
You forgot to mention how you broke your wrist too :)
"
Haha you mean when you and I were playing hockey on rollerblades and I was seven years old and I fell on my wrist and broke it and you wouldn't help me take off the goalie equipment or even help me carry it back to the house? You mean that day? You were quite helpful that day too.
SAW IIII fingers. A intense thriller of a deranged man willing to saw off his own finger to get ot of the entrapment of a diaper.
Rated R for graphic poopy
Staring: Brett"all thumbs"
" This movie was packed with blood and gore. I give it two thumbs"
Dave, heard your coming up this weekend, should be good games...
Brett, glad you're sugery went well
I got the same treatment when I had my knee surgery, as great as it was, I'd pass on doing it again.
Did you do this while working at home depot?
no i was installing closets. I was cutting a shelf for the closet
Sleep deprivation played a part in the accident.
Look at brett blame poor Gabe...
i'll neveer forgive him
