(Video highlights next week. Brett did a terrible job this week.)
5 Dave - Definitely a big difference. Dave showed that there was little rust he had to shake off. Now he didn’t play his best game ever, not even close, but he made the saves he should have and even made some he shouldn’t have. Expect Dave to be a bigger and bigger difference as the weeks go along.
4 Nick - Nick was the only shut down defense of the night. I’m starting to think he makes Joe look better than he really is when they play together. Nick out performed the white team’s top D (Joe) in so many ways. He stayed in front of his man, made the smart and safe play all night, and he kept his shoots down and on net... for the most part. Nick is realizing, faster than Joe has, that it doesn’t take his hardest shot to score a goal. Nick is starting to make a name for himself. Just keep your shots down.
3 Ryan - Ryan was left to take over the puck carrying duties of the white team and did an ok job. What impressed me was his ability to set up his teammates with scoring chances. Justin had 4 on one shift. But Griff”s goal will be in the running for goal of the year as he was able to stop on a dime, spin around the weeks #5 star, and pick his spot on none other than Dave Riley in net. No small feat.
2 Chris Y - He is quietly graduating from a “throw in” player to a dependable player. Chris is learning how to be in the right spot at the right time. While he is one of many big boned players that play each week, he has few “limitations“, and has total understanding of what it means to use your body legally in Saugus. I see him developing into a solid 2-way player.
1 Dale - He was going to get that back-hander goal, and after 4 tries he finally did. While his “grey shirt” goal created quite the controversy, there should be no quarreling over him getting #1 star. He scored at least a goal in every game played and impressed everyone with his surprising speed. He used his speed to beat the D to the puck many times and not just Jimmy, he even beat Danny a couple times. His 4 goals were the most on his team.
