Saugus is for deck hockey: (This Sunday will be inside at 5:30)

After having a week with a good turnout, a very long and hard fought first game, and some of our more controversial players back this week, you'd think there would be a lot of commentary on the site this week. Outside of Reggie pulling a page from Brett's book and having a full-fledged conversation with himself, the boards have been quiet thus far though.

My take? The horrible conditions we played in this past week. Yes, it was warmer than I thought it would be, but the floor was so slippery that the games really weren't too fun...the night was more draining than anything else. Thus, we're going to aim to play indoors as much as we can...more on that below.

Game 1: For such a long game, it didn't really feel like some of the other epic games that we've played. Both goalies were good, and though it seemed as though the White team had the edge in play, in reality the dark team had generated plenty of offense (the White team's goalie commented that the scoring chances were not as lopsided as many on the White team had believed). This game was won as the result of a turnover in the zone by Jimmy C - Scotty bagged the gamewinner, and led the scoring with 3 points.

Game 2: Apparently the dark team decided a different approach in the second game to try to get momentum back: play physical. The White team watched as TPJ, frustated with Bradley's improved play throughout the night, took him heavily into the boards. Jared would pay for that mistake shortly later as he rolled his ankle in the offensive zone and went down. His attempts to crawl to the bench reminded on member on the White team of Will Smith's attempt to crawl to his car in I Am Legend. It was at that moment that Brett decided to abandon his team and his alliance and join forces with the evil dark team alliance (Ron, Jared, and Dale). It didn't pay off as John was able to finally solve Tony and led the way to victory with 3 goals.

Game 3:A trade him to be made at the start of this game, so Griff was sent in exchange for Brian P, making his Saugus debut. Much to the surprise of everyone on the White team, the White team jumped out to a quick lead by goals from Brad, Brian, and Reggie. Congrats Brian on your first goal. And for a 30 second stretch, Brad was a force in the offensive zone. Scotty scored the fourth goal on a slap shot from about ten feet in front of Tony - I think Tony tried diving out of the way so as not to be killed. Scotty also scored the fifth and final goal, getting the game winner in all three games.

Random notes: Obviously Scotty played great last week (5g, 3a), but props also to Reggie for having what might have been his best night in 3 years. He was tied for second highest scorer on the night (3g, 2a). Also, after a slow start Brad really stepped up his game.

For this coming week I am going to try to reserve the inside rink at 5:30. I'd like to have goalies ready to go and teams picked by 5:45 so that we can get a full 2 hours in (we have to stop by 8). When the weather is good enough we can play outside - we'll take it on a case-by-case basis. I don't care about the cold so much, but if it's slippery like it was this past week it's not nearly as fun.

Changed it for you Reg!

The writing committee at BMC has received numerous reports of disinterested blog readers. It's been traced it down to a lack of creativity and major tardiness on this post.

We recommend in the future you post more captivating headline like...

Watch Out! Players Hit the Deck in Saugus Hockey

LOL. PPp strikes again!!

ok so you subtract Brett and add Scotty and what do you get?........... 3 wins and an ineffective Johnny Riley.

Yeah with Scotty playing Johnny really didn't have to have a great night, and yes the conditions were bad. But me and Johnny have played together in similar conditions and have been a better duo.

So Jared will say who cares, you have Scott and don't need anyone else, and I somewhat agree with him. But as good as Scotty is, he doesn't make his team better,.....that is unless he just shoots it off Bradley’s shin pads and into the net.

Inside is definately a good idea for rainy days like last sunday, but we don't have to play inside every week, we should be able to tell by the weather if we should go in or not.

Reggie your only posting cuz you finally had a good week. About time i'd say, we've been overrating you for a year now.

I'll be ready to go come sunday. Ankle swelling went way down today and it finally cracked and loosened up which. Thanks again matt for taping it.

The alliance is still in it's infancy with ron dale and I, give us some time.

As good as Scotty is, I think he is one of the most unselfish guys out there. Look at how many time he would pass it up instead of just shoot it.

Having Scotty out there open up a lot of space for everyone else.

I honestly think if he wanted to he could go end to end anytime he wanted to and cause havok & almost score at will

haha - I again don't get mentioned for being on the team!!!

Brett said...

yeah i guess anyone could just run straight and bull over anyone in their way, and then blame them if he gets bumped or tripped up.

Who did scott face on D? No top Defender. Matt did a decent job but all you need is a fast defender and he'll be limited to long shots(which are just as deadly anyway) Dale should have played D on him and Matt should have been up on offense.

a few reasons are possible mike:

1. You were a liability for your team. "We" would mention you but, "we" are not allowed to hurt anyones feelings here.

2. You did nothing exciting or of note. Thus, no one remembers you were there.

3. you had no points.

4. you werent a "notable" shut down defender.

Not saying any or all of these apply but those are the reasons people arent mentioned.

Mike, you've had some good weeks in your career whether it be playing defense or scoring or both. But you are not a top tier player.

Would you put yourself in a group with Jared or Johnny or Scott or Ron?

Brett said...

brendon, how'd you like the new stick length?

Mike D said...

Did I say I should be mentioned as a top tier, I said as being on the team.
I really did find it funny which is why I had the - haha

Brett said...

so everytime we mention something about a team or team members, you want everyone that was on the team listed? Do you feel left out Mike:(

Cause this isn't the first time you've made mention of it.

From the previous post...

Johnny, our alliance is not so easily broken with our players. TPJ doesn't need his ankle to be a force on the "Black Panthers" (name de jour).

You on the other hand, let one of your star players risk it all, with the other team no less!

Maybe that's too harsh. Brett probably doesn't need his hand to be a force either... but an alliance is needed and now the Panthers will pounce on this weakness.

Mike D said...

both times I mentioned it it was directed at Jared as a joke because he was the one that left the post

Brett - trust me, I'm not loosing any sleep over it

Brett said...

maybe not, but i bet you have dreams about it. Or should i say nightmares

Brett said...

That just goes to show how weak you really are Ron. You need to ally yourself with Jared and Dale to even attempt to take on me or Johnny.

Teams: (assuming no scott)

Ron Johnny
Jared Brett
Dale Griff
Joe Nick
Chris Brendon
Mike D Reggie
Ronnie Brad
Jim C Mike P
Lenny Matt S

That was a weak effort to ruffle my feathers Brett... really weak :)

Yes, I need a team to beat those dim-wits on the other team.

Oh and for the record, your the dimmest dim-wit of em all

Jared said...

Yes Brett, my ally Ron is good, but you want him to take on a team by himself? Of course he needs some help to take down you and johnny.

Mike, i don't want to speak for the rest of the alliance, but there may be openings for expansion in our group. I had to ask to be a part of the dale and ron alliance. Dale wasn't our 3rd best player sunday but he's still part of the blog alliance we have going on. So not that you care, but i only mentioned the 3 of us that have formerly joined together.

I seem to play bad the first week or two with a new top player, be it ron, johnny, or brett. With more time we'll be fine. It did sound like scotty was playing again. I thought matt and the rest of the defense played good against him, we just needed to score more. an hour and a half is plenty of time to score 5 goals and we didn't do that.

I like your teams brett, if Joe shows up, which is important. Can't wait for sunday, PPP should we have a team meeting?

Brett said...

so if you need help to beat some dim-wits....what does that make you?

Ron said...

Ok Brett that's better... oh, and no comment :)

John said...

Mikey, I can't speak for your play overall the other night (wasn't paying too much attention) but I will say that you've been doing very well on faceoffs.

John said...

Yeah Jared, I am not thinking it to be automatically inside each week, but until I know the floor is going to be fine I'd rather not chance it.

John said...

Brett, you're partially correct. My mediocre play on Sunday was much more a result of the poor footing out there than anything else.

However, our team really struggled passing most of the night, and with the conditions we really needed to pass better. So had you been playing I would have likely scored more & had better numbers.

I just think that with the conditions we had, my "level of play" would have been just as poor.
