What time should we do this week?

I booked the inside rink at 6:00 on Sunday. Keep in mind that there is a group that plays at 8. So we need to arrive by 5:45 so we have enough time to pick the teams and start by 6:00. If players like Brendon, Dale, or Danny are going to be late then let me know and we'll make sure you get put on a team.

I booked the indoor rink just because it's only going to be in the 30s on Sunday. We've played in colder temperatures before, so I have no problem moving it outside if that's what everyone wants, or if it makes it easier for Danny / Dale. Outside would be at 6:30. Unless I hear from people though (and I won't count it unless I see a name attached to the post) I'm going to leave it inside.

One final note: we've let people post anonymously, and will continue to do so, but use some common sense when you post (let's not call people retarded). If Nick or I do not like an Anonymous post for whatever reason we're just simply going to delete it. If someone puts their name on it then that's a different story. And by the way: enough of the Bourne recaps - we don't give a crap about it.

move it outside so there aren't people waiting behind us. by the time we get started inside we'll barely get an hour of gameplay.

let's go!!! Outside!!! Who's captain this week?

BOURNE POWER RANKINGS said...

I just started doing the Bourne Recap with Power Rankings once a week after the Bourne game for those that are on this blog that previouly or currently play there so they can be up-to-date.

I didn't realize it bothered you so much that you had to go as far as saying that you don't give a [poop] about it.

Please remove the disparaging remark that Jared will inevitably leave in response to this.

Thank You.

You're the biggest loser Scott Mirch. Nobody likes you, your Morgan Freeman voice or your gay Bourne Rankings.

You are a waste of life

Jared, you and Brett have to come down and hangout some time.

I'm surprised that a brother would call someone a "waste of life", though, even joking.

No kidding, name one time this year when we have started even CLOSE to on time. Just book outside. We are men here, well at least we are now that Brett isn't coming.

Brett and Griff are out. Is Ron going to be back by then?

Anonymous said...

Who do we have in net this week?

"PPP" the Professor said...

Ron is supposed to be back this week. His family left my villa in Honolulu on Tuesday night.

We had a great time in Hawaii. Time on the beach was well spent brain storming ways to keep his winning percentage tops among active players.

Ron said...

Hey Johnny, here's a suggestion for you...

If you don't like the Bourne Recaps then why don't you start your own blog? :)

I personally like reading about how the better Driscoll is doing.

John said...

That's fine...we'll play at 6:00 this week, outside rink.

I haven't heard from Steve yet, although I believe he is playing. My father said he'd play one net. With Brett out I'm guessing Darren will not be able to make it.

So far it looks like we have: Brett, Griff, and Lenny out.

In looks like: myself, Jared, Nick, Mike D, Brendon, Ron, Brad, Joe, Chris, Dale.

Still to find out: Matt S, Matt D, Jimmy, Josh, Mike M, Reggie, Ronnie, Jon Ignacio, etc.

John said...

As for the Bourne Recap, if you and others want to read up on it then that's fine, and my apologies to whoever posts it...however, Jared has stated on several occasions that a lot of the junk that gets posted on the site is due to that kid Scott who no one even knows of.

If he wants to come play with us, he's welcome to, and then welcome to post. But it's annoying to read useless garbage from people that most of us do not even know.

John, I'm the one leaving the Bourne Power rankings.

I actually would like to play with you guys some time but my game is on Sunday nights too and the drive is a bit much. But Thank you.

As far a the "junk" goes, yeah I joke around a little bit, like doing Cereal Power Rankings. But I'm not the one leaving stuff like calling someone "mentally [handicapped]" and other things like that.

I will, however, continuously slam Brett, because I know the Driscolls quite well, and I will tease Jared because he pretends he hates me but he really loves me.

As far as the rest of you guys, I'm not leaving personal attacks about people that I've never even met. I didn't even jump on that "Griff/fat joke bandwagon" that rolled through last week.

I just want to make it clear, because I think a lot of anonymous bashing gets blamed on me, when it's not me at all. I understand why people would think it's me sometimes because I've never gotten to meet all of you yet, but I assure you I'm a witness too, and I'm not leaving disrespectful posts about my own brothers whether I know you or not.

Just so we're clear. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

Thank you, Oh pious one.

Anonymous said...

Scott I think I speak for some people here when I say that most of us dont really know you and your personality. Even those of whom we know, sometimes its hard to determine their disposition from some written words.

So when you write things you have to be careful as to what you say because people can take it the wrong way.

So until you show up and people can meet you, perhaps it's best that you dont post anymore.

Anonymous said...

Did anyone else notice that Scott was offended by the word "crap" that John said on the frontpage and then replaced it with [poop]?

Reminds me of Brett getting easily offended by "sucks" and replacing it with "stinks".

What touchy-feely school did you guys go to, anyway? Are they all like that in Braintree?

Anonymous said...

it's called the ministry school...i just wanted to beat brett to the punch

Anonymous said...

Oh, then I guess we'll have to watch him closely and "correct" him if he does or says anything that wouldn't be said from the platform. Right Brett?

Ron said...

I don't understand why an Anonymous poster would tell Scott to stop posting.

If you really feel that way, then I would say you should leave your name.

I personally don't know Scott, but I probably skated circles around him in my single game appearance in Bourne. :)

I can't and wont speak for everyone, but I personally welcome your comments.

I would offer you this one piece of advice. When you bash your buddy Brett for his disillusioned comments, do it under a name other than anonymous. It doesn't have to be Scott, just a name other than anonymous.

Anonymous said...

I say, no more anonymous comments. Including this one.

Ron said...

Oh and one more thing...the Cereal Power Rankings were Laugh Out Loud Hysterical.

That discussion was 2nd only to the University of Color talk a month or so ago.

brett said...

Johnny can we have a discussion about the word "suck" and how inappropriate it is when used to insult someone?

I promise you that I WILL question everyone’s spirituality that uses it.

And if you use that word, who knows what other word you feel free to use when in private.

Can we please, can we? PLEASE!!

John said...

Hey Scott,

No problem - I don't necessarily have a problem with you posting. I was simply under the impression that you were the behind a lot of the stupid / insulting comments that were posted. If that's not you then I apologize. I actually have no problem with cereal posts or anything like that, I just don't want to see the posts that are insulting to people. Feel free to fire away at Brett though :)

Brett, you actually make a good point. While no one has come onto the boards and used profanity (except for Matt S and his so-called typo), we should make sure that the language on the site is no different than you would use in the Kingdom Hall, especially with the increasing number of people reading the site. If you wouldn't use a word in a comment at the meeting, it's best not to post with it here either.

Anonymous said...

OK, Brett how is using that word any worse than lambasting someone on this site to the point that they don't even come on the site or to hockey any more? You basically did that to Lee and Brendon. So how is that any less wrong? In fact in Brendons case it's worse because you could tell from his posts that he took it personally and you still didn't stop.

tpj said...

brendon is still posting, he just goes by his new name anonymous...

I love our bi-weekly segment where we all question each others spirituality and use brother in quotation marks.

I don't think these weird posts are from who we think. The mystery of it is very intriguing but they're usually not the main guys who post on the site.

Yes, it's true that you wouln't use that in the KHall, but you also wouldn't tell someone to SHUT UP or anything else that we also do while we are on this site or while we play hockey.
I don't think that it is necesarily vulgar (alhtough it can be if someone intentionally adds a sexual context to it)

and I don't think that we all have to speak exactly as we would while at the Hall (becuase realistically that isn't going to happen when we get stressed out or upset at a play).

But if your foor makes your brother stumble, then cut it off. So for Brett (and other's) sake, let's just try not to use that word.

And Brett, don't jump down anyone's throat if they make a mistake and use it becuase they forgot.

I think the personal attacks go way overboard. For instance, I was absolutely put off with some of the Griff Fat Jokes.

I know he posted about himself and that kept the fire going, but I still thought it was taken way to far.

I think some of Brendon's situation did go too far. I personally had fun with it as the Jedi Hockey Master and other aliases. It's too bad that he took it seriously and will not post as himself anymore.

I agree with TPJ, Brendon is back reading and posting as anonymous.

As far as Lee goes, I really hope he just comes back and plays again, minus the getting down on himself stuff.

Scott said...

Ron, did you really play at Bourne?

The fact that you remember skating circles around me confirms the fact you were there.

Do you remember what jersey you wore? I'm trying to remember who you were.

John said...

Hey guys,

On a lighter note, tomorrow I'm going to try to update where people are stat-wise against what I had projected before the season began. Look for it sometime in the early afternoon.

Ron said...

I was there... 2 years ago I think. Came with Scott Finlayson. It was a full group that week.

I don't remember which color I wore, but I guarantee I skated circles around you :)

I probably had either a dark Capitals 68 jersey or a white U of Maine practice jersey.

"PPP" the Professor said...

The more I think about it the more I think the "Bourne Power Rankings" should skip playing in Bourne and come evaluate you guys in Saugus.

I personally would be interested in what you think, and more importantly, how you would RANK the Top 10 players.

For instance...

Does Johnny's wimpy slap shot affect his ranking?

Is Jared's defense as bad as everyone thinks it is?

Is Ron's mustache the real reason why he can play, shoot and score?

Is Brett the better Driscoll in steeet hockey?

Does Dale have a feared backhand shot?

Does Joe's slide affect the way you play against him?

Is Nick really a top defensive pick?

Is Chris not only the strongest, but the best dresser of us all?

Does Brendon's long stick make you laugh as much as I do?

Is Mike D's man coverage as good as its cracked up to be?

Does Reggie have what it takes to break the top 5 pick?

I think a fine quality ranker, like yourself, would be an interesting addition to the likes or WPR, BB, PPP and some lesser-knowns.

I would even consider letting you into the exclusive Acronym Club.

I would have to consult with my brethren, but I believe BPR is available.

BOURNE POWER RANKINGS said...

Thank you, esteemed Professor.

If we have the night off at Bourne some week I would gladly evaluate the pool of talent at Saugus as an unbiased 3rd party (except with regards to Brett).

However, I do feel qualified to answer the question: "Is Brett the better Driscoll in steeet hockey?"

Absolutely Not.

That honor probably goes to Darrin. I had the privilige of playing with Darrin for many years before he "wrecked" his knee in Holland (presumably while clogging in front of a windmill).

He was awesome on ice and even better on street*. But what makes him the best is that during the times Brett was in net, he could play solid, smart defense as well.

Billy is obviously a close second.

*Note: Darrin once gave up a hat-trick to me. He blames the sun for this anomaly. FACT: the sun is approximately 93 million miles away from Earth. Oops! Maybe Darrin can blame the moon next time!

Brett said...

Darrin was never awesome on ice.

He can't skate that well and it effected his skill as goalie on ice. That's why i started to play goalie on ice(not that i'm a great skater either)

But i do think he is the better driscoll on street. I agree with the points that the very knowledgeable BPW made about Darrin.

Brett said...

Scott, Ron was the one in the other Jagr jersey besides Billy.

And don't feel bad he skated around all of us

The Bobcat (Lynx rufus) is a North American mammal of the cat family, Felidae. With twelve recognized subspecies, it ranges from southern Canada to northern Mexico, including most of the continental United States. The Bobcat is an adaptable predator that inhabits wooded areas, as well as semi-desert, urban edge, forest edges and swampland environments. It persists in much of its original range and populations are healthy.

I'm lazy sometimes, John?! Compared to who? Oh, incidently, not one fat joke on this site came from me. Just in case anyone was wondering. What I said was in the heat of the moment because of dealing with a serious personal issue and after Griff said to someone that I tried to hurt Brett on purpose. When I told him I didn't appreciate that, he insulted me. That's when I went off. I would have stopped the fat jokes if he didn't do the mock laughing. I don't normally make fun of people's physical issues. That was a first. I would like to think both Griff and I will be a little more careful in the future and try to get along.

Why are people saying I don't play defense? I use to play defense more than offense before this year. Plus I played defense half the night last Sunday. It's the position I played in ice hockey most of my life.

In the know said...

For some reason, people want to talk about defensive skills for those that play forward.

You hear all the time that John is the best defensive forward and Jered is the worst.

I don't buy into that at all.

I'd say that is the context of Johns comments.

I think you play great on defense when you are at that position.

Dale said...

Thanks. I try.

Ron said...

The end of the other post someone said let Mike D and Brendon be captains this week.

John said...

Dale, I actually think you're better as a defenseman than a forward. You still are able to utilize your shot, and you battle hard and know where you should be positioned.

As for being lazy at times, you can call it lazy, tire easily, etc. Not all of the time, but there are times where you focus strictly on offense and do not get back and cover defensively when we don't have the ball. Or, the ball might be loose along the wall and you don't always hustle after it.

You are not alone in doing that, and it doesn't happen all of the time. However, that's part of why I end up picking you in the order that I do.

Anonymous said...

i think Dale is the most underrated player. especially when he plays defense.

Here are the updated projections if everyone on this list were to only play 85 Games. It looks like we will play more than that as a group, and obviously individually not everyone will end up playing as many as 85 games. But this is what it would look like if everyone did:

Mike P -N/A
Danny H - 36G, 28A, 64 Pts (.75 PPG - Higher)
Joel - 70G, 30A, 100 Pts (1.18 PPG - Higher)

Thats interesting about the point totals, but look more closely at it.

although brett will be lower, his assists will be higher. and brendon's goals will be higher although the point totals lower.

So maybe some players have just shifted from more goals to more assists or vice versa?

Anonymous said...

some one has to break the 200 point mark this year. brett had a huge drop off in ppg.

Anonymous said...

brett stinks

TPJ said...

assists generally mean less than the actual goal. Granted sometimes you get an unbelievable pass and the assist made the goal happen, but 50% of goals i'd say come off broken plays, like my assist to joe for his gamewinner, not really a good pass, i just happened to be the last one to touch it.

Anonymous said...

why are some people N/A?

Are they not playing with us anymore?

Anonymous said...

I agree with you TPJ. Some players get assists when they didn't even have anything to do with the play. Everyone gets assists. Even Cindy got an assist I think.

cyoung said...

Just remembered, I have a dinner engagement sunday night.

SOrry I wont be there!!!

John said...

Brett had some games he was playing and his hand wasn't healed so it makes sense his numbers were down. I'd expect them to climb though.

N/A is simply if a person hasn't played enough, or recorded any points.

As for assists, I'd agree that in Saugus they are not as important as goals for the most part. There are a bunch of assists that people get where they did nothing more than dump the puck in the zone or hand it to a teammate in the defensive zone and that person made the goal happen on their own. OTOH, there are a lot of goals where the assist was just as, if not equally as important. There are also times where a player gives a beautiful pass and his teammate doesn't score with it. Through the year though, plays like that and the "Vulture Assists" will often offset each other.

All of that being said, I probably look at an assist being worth 75% of a goal.

Anonymous said...

The reason why assists don't count as much in Saugus, is because there isnt alot of setup goals.
Nobody there knows how to play their position.
Traditionaly in hockey, teams that are lacking in scoring usually go out and try to acquire someone who has a high assist count in hopes of increasing every one's goals

Oh, and Dale. I went to hockey school too. That's where they taught me to pass.

I think at least 40% of the anonymous derogatory comments posted on this blog about other players like Jared, Brett and others are done out of jealousy. People who are insecure find it easier to rip other people than to aspire to something better. Some of them really do just sound like sour grapes. Anyone else agree with me?

Ron said...

I used to be a proponent of anonymous comments, but not anymore.

I have my own take on it, but in general I agree with your premise.

Even though I don't get ripped apart like you sometimes do, I still shake my head at the senseless comments that anonymous people post.

I still find the site worth visiting, but more and more I'm thinking of being a non participant.

Dale said...

I have nothing against anonymous comments if they are funny and meant to be in good fun. But if they are derogatory and hurtful they shouldn't be on this site. Does anybody know why? If I have to tell you, then you are in serious trouble. Why do people want to hurt other people's feelings? I just don't get it! I'm not saying you can't give some constructive advice but at least do it like John does. He says it nicely (Even if I don't agree sometimes.) and he posts his name like a big boy. Some people aren't posting their names because they know inside that they really shouldn't be saying what they are saying and yet they have some anger towards someone for whatever reason. Remember, it's just a game, not real life.

Dale said...

John, you can pick me last if you want. It doesn't matter to me. I really don't think anyone runs in harder on the opposing teams defense than I do and I'm 47 years old. If you've never had it, you don't know how much it hurts to run or just walk for that matter. Regardless, Pain or no pain, I really don't see too many guys there that don't get a little lazy at times. I don't see me standing out above everybody enough to call me on it. When I was 25 years younger nobody ever accused me of slacking on a hockey rink. You are entitled to your opinion, But, I absolutely do not agree with it. Feel free to pick me last if you want.

i'm gonna have to agree with Dale.

The 2 players i want on my team every week are Dale and Johnny.

I just feel that with those two we have a good chance to win no matter who we face.

Anonymous said...

I agree Brett.

TPJ said...

haha brett you can't make a point and then agree with yourself anonymously 10 minutes later.

I think it's really only a couple people who go over the top and say rediculous things so I vote people ignore them. Can't take everything personally, I mean it's not like i'm gonna play defense just cuz people want me to.

Ron said...

I agree with TPJ and with Dale too.

Brett gets the buzzed off for that thoughtless zinger...

Combine Dale's age and mine and you don't have time to lose.

Remember, oh ye with little wisdom you cannot change time. We've been playing hockey since before you were born :)

Plus toss in Dales Bunions and you have a combination that comes up winners every time.

Brett said...

i can't believe someone else was up that early. I swear it wasn't me.

What thoughtless zinger Ron?

Ron said...

That you would take the young inexperienced Johnny rather than the gracefully aged, wise one to be on your team with Dale.

Weekly Power Rankings said...

We hear at WPR have an announcement to make.

Due to the recent complaints that have been pouring in here at the office, caused by some light-hearted weekly comments on the Rankings, we have decided it'd be best to discontinue the Rankings each week.

Unfortunately some people have taken what was said seriously. Now we do admit to taking shots at people every week, but we thought it to be in good fun and never too harsh and thought that people could tell it was just a joke. We tried not to single anyone out by trying to zing everyone. I guess it wasn't fun for every one.

So to those who were bothered or offended by any comments made about them by our organization i sincerly appologize, ask for your forgiveness and hope we all can move on from this dark time for the blog.

It was fun while it lasted.....for us anyway.

Brett said...

Ron i'm thinking long term. Like a GM would.

Ron said...

With Johnny never subbing, he will have a knee blowout or a Brendon Hammy strain with another couple years.

I'm built to play until I start using a cane.

Brett said...

and trust me i gave it plenty of thought.

no disrespect ron but i don't like playing on your team. I'm not saying we don't work good together or anything like that.

I'm sure you have this feeling with certain players too.

I played with Johnny pretty much all last year and we won most weeks. So it's just a comfortable feeling. So when i have to play against him, it's uncertain what the results are gonna be(even though i have a winning record vs him).

Brett said...

And those days aren't far off from you Ron :)

Ron said...

I understand completely. That's the main reason why I liked the set team idea.

For instance, when Mike D and I are on the same team, he sets up in the slot for me to find him on a consistent basis.

Brett said...

one more week and we can have those set teams we wanted. You know the ones we had right before i destroyed my hand.

As regards to all the insults on here:

Adversity introduces a man to himself

If people are so offended at what others say about them, then perhaps they arn't as strong as they thought they were.
It's just hockey people!

Yes, be like the duck and let nothing penetrate through. Let is roll off and not affect you in any way shape or form.

who are the goalies this week?

Anonymous said...

whoever shows up. Pot luck.

It has nothing to do with how strong someone is. Again you are missing the point. Did you ever stop to think that some people just don't like getting ripped apart? There are clearly people who don't care, but on the flip side there are clearly people who do mind. Much like a playground bully who just keeps riding the little kid people pick one or two people and just rip them and rip them and rip them even though it's clear that person doesn't like it. I personally get a kick out of WPR, BB, & PPP.

I like those teams, we're gonna kill them

Anonymous said...

does anyone even remember what those original teams were?

Anonymous said...

couple problems with those teams. Griff, Chris, & Brett already said they were out this week. Who's Mike C?

Anonymous said...

all the better, now john can not sub the whole game and nobody will complain

Scott said...

Are the Maple Leafs an official NHL team? If you guys aren't going to invite them to play in Saugus, I'm going to ask them to play in Bourne. I haven't scored a goal in a couple of weeks.

Dale said...

I am planning to be there with my bad feet, aging body and arm injury at about 7:10 PM Eastern standard time. Unfortunately, I get out of work at 7PM right down the street. I wish I could be there sooner to warm up and see if John picks me last or not at all, but, alas I cannot.

Dale said...

Anonymous said I like those teams. We're gonna kill them! I don't know if that's good or bad because I don't know who he is and if I'm on the same team. Oh well, I better not slack off or my team is DOOMED!!!!!!!!!

Dale said...

Don't fret Ron. You know I would pick you and Brett first before I would pick John. The reason is that John's shot is a little bit lazy. Your shot is always moving fast. WWOOOOOOSSHH!!

TPJ said...

when did ron and dale form an alliance? and how do i get in?

BOURNE POWER RANKINGS said...

Back by popular demand!

First of all, I would like to thank the fine people at Classico for making an alfredo sauce that suits my needs an amateur athlete, providing me with all the essential parmesano-electrolytes I need to play.

Anyway, tonight's game was probably the most evenly matched of the season. Some visitors provided an extra boost to the Red team's offense, especially the brother from Long Island with the Blues shirt or "B.L.I.B.S." and the brother from Acton with the Canucks' socks or "B.A.C.S."

It was a hard fought game with both defenses stepping up but the Red team was victorious by a score of 2-1 thanks to the 2-goal performance by Blibs. John scored the lone goal for the Not Red team.
But everyone really had a good time and that's what truly counts.

BOURNE POWER RANKINGS

1.) JOHN - John, of course, stays atop the rankings due to his intense level of play tonight and providing all of his teams' offense.

2.) MIKE N. - Mike was the Bobby Orr of the Red team tonight, playing both ends of the ice effectively (Kind of like an Eric that passes, if you can picture that)

3.) DAN - No, Dan score a goal tonight but very few did. Dan continued to manage his teams' offense much like a quarterback that can actually beat the Dolphins and played a crucial role in keeping the score as low as it was.

4.) BILLY - Billy is hanging on by a thread, dropping further in the rankings due to his continued absence. Notice Billy's rise and fall in the rankings is eerily similar to "Chumbawamba" record sales circa 1998.

Speaking of getting knocked down and getting up again...

5.) MIKE G. - Mike keeps playing tougher and tougher every week and definitely deserves a mention. Mike even took a slapshot to the leg just above the ankle leaving good-sized lump. Who knew that wearing shin guards from a 1960's cricket match could be that potentially dangerous?

BOURNE POWER RANKINGS said...

NOTE: #3 should read as follows...

3.) DAN - No, Dan didn't score a goal tonight but very few did.

but billy showed in Saugus!
