Player Card Debut

Boring? What the? I'll trump that last post by you Ron, any day of the week!

Anyone else think Ron should focus on showing up at hockey before he can tell me how I should run this site? If it was up to me anonymous posting would still be happening...anyways. Should we take advice from a guy that couldnt get a website started like me and Johnny did? I dont think so! Ron wishes he had what we have created!

But on to more important matters. John and I are proud to introduce the first hockey blog player card. We want your honest opinion of our latest feature to the site. First of all, let us know it comes "in" correctly. 2nd do you like the format, etc and so on and so forth. Be honest please.

Jared
Meadows

Left Wing
Age: 23
Height: 5'03

Jared has finished second in scoring every year. He mostly cherry picks and complains about his teams.

You should learn to to code properly formatted html before you post garbage like that.

I'm not impressed Johnny, not impressed.

stop being bitter.

if you have decent suggestion send it over...be constructive. If not go post on the other site.

It may not get through the moderator though.

let me repost what John wrote earlier, as it applies to this thread:

"Let me know if the sample player card looks messed up for other people. It works fine for Nick, but doesn't look good on my computer."

Brett said...

it came in good for me.

Jared's 5' 03"? Really? I thouhgt he was shorter.

Is there any way to have the whole picture on one side, like a real hockey card, with the name of his alliance at the bottom, and then click on it and on the back have a notable note about a memorable tid bit in his career,(like when jared scored on the only penalty shot in Saugus history) with all the stats too.

I know it's alot, but just pick up a hockey card and try to make it just like it.

Ron said...

I could do it, and probably make it an interactive slide to boot

but i have to stop being bitter

Yup, I'm letting this website thing go to my head.

Brett said...

what about having a fantasy hockey leaugue made up of the players in Saugus?

just split up the players into 2 teams that we think are fair, and then after the stats have been updated for the week, have it translate into fantasy points.

Goals = 1 point
Assists = .8 point
Game winners = .5 point
Win = .5 point
Win for a goalie = 1 point

so on and so forth.

haha nick you made my nite. My dream of having my own player card has come true! In fact i'm ready to get demoralized again come sunday. Ahhh I'm in such a good mood now, not even sure where you got that picture or if you added the hat, but i'm laughing.

And Ron, are we going to try to take down johnny and brett sunday, or are you going to leave me high and dry again?

Fantasy hockey league sounds amazing brett, i would be such a better fantasy hockey player than real, kinda like carl crawford.

Reggie said...

ahahaahahahahahahahahahahah that was hilarious... jareds's stats are impressive tho.

John said...

Jared, I had that picture from our first trip to Florida...that hat was legit btw, though not sure why you were wearing it.

Brett, I thought about it. We could design a page where it has the name and "action shot" of a player which would be the "front" of the card. Clicking on the image will take you to the "back" of the card like you see with Jared's. It wouldn't be a smooth "flash-like" look and feel, but it'd accomplish the same thing. Ron, if you have any ideas about that then let me know, but keep in mind it would have to be able to be generated automatically from running a program since most would need to be updated weekly.

Let me know guys if you have other suggestions: ie changing the color, other stats to add, etc. Also, if you have specific pictures to use for each side of the card we'll need them (plus writeups for the bio, height, etc).

I am going to use the other thread later to post possible teams for this weekend.

Nick

the prospect of posting anonymous but deleting the icon and changing the name doesn't work. Once you click on the name it gives you the information of the person posting it. For instance, Java Master is Ron once I click on the name I know.

Anonymous posting will have to rest in peace forever. :*(

I like player cards too! We do need to change Jareds picture to the picture framed in Conway. This picture is of Jared with Minny Mouse with a fanny pack and a squeeze the cheese shirt. Classic!!!

John said...

Griff, I didn't think we'd be able to get a "better" picture of Jared then the one that I found...sounds like you might have it!

B Team Reporter said...

Griff, there are other ways to make anonymous style posting work.

The best way would be to create another registered blogger account that has either an unshared profile or just generic.

There is still accountability because the profiles can be cross referenced to the owner by the blog administrators.

So with anonymity let me post this comment about Griff.

I don't think your fat. I think your a PHAT in a Hot Marshmallow sort of way.

B Team Reporter said...

Don't Push it Brandeen :)

Brett said...

Griff i was thinking of the same picture for jared's card.

Squeeze the Cheese!

Brett said...

so Johnny, do we need to send you info if we want a card?

Brett said...

Ron, stop being bitter and get to work

Brett said...

johnny or nick, you'll have to change the "year 1, year 2" on the cards stats to 06-07 or 07-08 cause some players didn't start playing till a later year than others.

Like Jared started year 1 in 06-07

Where as i started my year 1 in 07-08

Ron said...

That's just what I needed, a slap in the head.

I Am On It. Should have some mockups soon.

Reggie said...

hmm my avatar is not changing.. or is it!

John said...

Brett, the year one / two / etc is not their year one or two, it's in relation to when we started keeping the stats in Saugus.

That being said, I can rename it to relate to the actual calendar year at the time.

Your other question Brett, yes. Everyone can send me all of their information: age, height, position, bio, and picture they'd want use. I believe the image size is roughly 100x130 (maybe a max size of 125x150) so most pictures will have to be shrunk down and turned into jpgs.

We can start with the "back" of the cards, but if you have larger "action shot" pictures to use for the front of the cards later then you can send those too.

John said...

Reg, that's great - I was thinking of using Anson Carter for you! We also could use Peter Chiarelli for Lee, Tom Selleck for Ron, and of course Fat Albert for Griff (he's still fairly tanned).

Ron, I posted in the other thread, but can you find out if the other goalie was planning on coming this week? Also let me know what your plans are.

Brett said...

I WANT MY CARD NOW!!!!

Brett said...

this has become a site for personal ads.

hi my name is brett. I'm 5'10" 155lb white male looking for a good time. text me ;)

Jared said...

i wonder whose arm is around me? And Nick writes what's in our player cards.

I'm with brendon, forget hockey sunday, everyone dress nice and we'll take pictures. Chris will definately win this game. And it'll be great for reggie too cuz matching sweat shirt/pant combo also doubles as dress clothes.

Matt S said...

Hey john just bring a digital camera next week and take Full body shots of everyone seperately of course.

Matt S said...

I will make sure I comb my hair for the shot

Matt S said...

or I will just weaR MY BLUE BANDANA

Brett said...

i want player cards made up for "goggles", Borges(the dough boy), Eric, everyone.

Jared said...

my player card is actually wrong. Borges beat me in goals in 07-08 and brett beat me in points last year. Is it too much to ask for an accurate player card? What else has nick messed up?

Brett said...

why is it taking so long to make the cards?

It's not the bloggers who are letting the site down, it's the people who run the blog. They make promises and then don't deliver till we've all lost interest

John said...

Brett, some of us have meetings tonight...not that I went mind you but that's not the point!

BTW, I have your info but do not have any good images. Do you have any to send?

Brett said...

aren't there any from the florida trip?

I'll check and see. i don't think i have any of me playing hockey

John said...

Don't worry about a hockey image yet - that will be for the "action" image which won't up till I can create it later.

The couple I have from Florida have you standing too close to other people for me to really crop out.

Nick said...

"And Nick writes what's in our player cards. "

"What else has nick messed up?"

Actually, Johnny wrote your bio, not me. But John was quick to let the blame fall upon me.

I will gladly write every bio, but I'm writing whatever comes to mind first.

Nick said...

ok every player that has ever played in Saugus (88 people) now has a card. link on the side bar where you could see the stats.

Jared and Brendon both have their cards somewhat done.

Brendon was the first card that I have done. Brendon, you should be honored.

Nick said...

also note, its on you guys to send me info. Im writing the bios though suggestions are welcome. Email me at nickburton88@hotmail.com, i'll do them as fast as I can.

Nick said...

btw brendon, your bio is not done. Im just way too tired to think of anything clever right now.

Nick said...

another thought, (almost out of breath), im not writing my own bio, so if you have something clever send me an email, and ill take the best one.

Brett said...

what is this, a weei contest?

John said...

I love Nick getting blamed for things!

Brendon - your site listed you as 31: poor programming man! And yes, I was the one that got Nick that picture. And as Nick alluded to, came up with Jared's bio. We don't need to keep the bio part, but usually a player's card has a bio/summary of their career.
