I pressed some button on my computer, so now every time I come to this website everything is big. It’s driving me crazy, man! Anyways…I bet you are shocked a recap is up, huh? I bet you are even more shocked that it’s up on Sunday night! I know, I’m amazing. I do remarkable things. It’s one of my major attributes. It’s like Brett’s head tilt when he laughs or Lenny’s unreal ability to play the “point” at the white line. It’s a part of who we are. It defines us as an individual. But my main motivator is that I now have competition from Johnny. There is nothing like a boxscore guys. It’s very entertaining to read, especially for a sport like hockey. It’s not like we have a boxscore page or anything. But seriously, Johnny did a solid job filling in, but I’m back where I belong. My fans have spoken. In fact, 3 emails (3!!-That’s a lot if you didn’t know) and 5 others mentioned it to me tonight. My calling has called. I can’t wait for Brett to try and one up me with WPR tomorrow. It can’t be done my friend (should that be plural? Hmmmm). It can’t be done.
Game 1: They say if at first you can’t succeed try (try) again. Slap-shot attempt number one by Brad resulted in a…(wait for it)…(dramatic build-up)…(silent crowd)…a swing in a miss..(Crowd goes: “awww”). Slap-Shot attempt number two by Brad was an improvement (based solely on contact because the ball managed to go backwards.) But it did eventually get better. It started out as a 2-0 lead for Scott’s white team. It looked like they had the advantage. But something changed. Momentum shifted. And the Dark team had a valiant comeback taking the game 5-2. But did it have more to do with the white team’s inability to make the “smart” play or did the dark team get better. I’m going to take the former instead of the ladder. Game Winner goes to Brett, assisted by Brendon. The loss goes on Jimmy for his two terrible goals (especially the one he let roll through his legs. Maybe it had spin on it? I’m sure Jimmy Nelson can help you with the theory of ball rotation.)
Game 2: The white team played more like a team in this one. With a solid victory over a team lead by a struggling Johnny Riley and a one handed man. Scott and Jared did their thing. Matt (hot) Tamale was a solid staple on D. And Nick earned himself a Scotty-point. And Lenny and Brad sniped a couple goals. A team effort all in all. Game winner went to Jared from Scott. I put the loss on the Dark team’s D. You were non-existent. Chris is playing too far up and I’m not sure who was playing the other side. Was it Mike D? I never seem to notice when he is there. (Hey mike a mention in a recap in a week you didn’t show…hahahaha…the irony)
Game 3: We should never be allowed to end a game at 4-4. Not allowed. Though, it should have been over. Johnny was given a break away, had the opportunity to win it and he hit the post. This was not a John Riley type of week. Don’t blame the thumb Johnny. No excuses! If you do use it you will sound like me without a decent winger or Jared with a cold. A terrible excuse. I will say this though: the loss would have been on me if Johnny made the shot, I made an ill-advised pass up the middle, leading to the break away. But I’m off the hook. The “tie” is on you John.
Ok, guys its getting late. A small recap but a recap none the less. Perhaps a conversation with the scout will come later this week. I do get Thursday and Friday off from work this week. Maybe I can make it happen. Besides, If WPR tries to one up me, I will still have something left up my sleeve to put him in his place. The Recap is back. “Im back baby! Im Back!”

Thats nuts
not your best nick, but hey, it's a solid recap and that's all we can ask for as we try to bring this site back to form.
Definitely not using the thumb as an excuse...it was just one of those weeks for me - wasn't really feeling it. Energy level wasn't there and my shooting was awful.
The biggest irratation was that I never should have trusted my shot on the breakaway last night since it was off all night - should have simply deked around Jimmy. He was beatable glove side and I was trying get my wrist shot back on track. Of course, had the misfortune of hitting the post right after missing the net.
This week will be better.
And, in retrospect, I should have subbed a few more times.
Why can't dale get a shot off quicker? I'm glad he couldn't cause i was verse him, but i'll be with him sooner or later.
Dale can't you just settle with a good shot? why do you always heve to try to get into a better scoring position? The goalies aren't that good and you have a good shot. JUST SHOOT IT!!!
what if we have 2 different goalies? wouldn't work.
i gotta say John, Sunday i wasn't looking to set you up at all nor anyone for that matter. So i didn't really help you in that matter. I just figured i could beat the D with my speed, and beat Jimmy with anything, drive-in or shot. I guess you could say i pulled a "Ron"
steve is better than Jimmy so no it's not the same. Steve just had an off night.
It's funny, BB finally had his chance to shine with WPR not posting for a while, and he flat out dropped the ball.
BB is like Brett, and WPR is like Johnny. BB is nothing without WPR
welcome back nick! Life wsn't the same without you.
Brendon, we can do a shootout just for kicks, but once the night is over, it's over. The results from a following week should not affect the results of the past week.
Brett, no problem. You were scoring anyway. I think I underestimated the feel of shooting the yellow balls - should have practiced a bit more before we played. Handling it wasn't a problem for me, I just never got used to shooting it.
johnny send Dale another invite. he said he needs one to get back on.
I want to know what's going through his mind(atleast i think i do) when he has the ball with an open shot and decides to "improvise"
and if we want this site to get even close to what it was, the stats need to be updated no later than Monday.
Brett, I never had gotten Dale's email address to send him an invite. If anyone has it then they can forward it to me.
Not sure where BB has been i agree with brett he's definately failed to capitalize.
Let's briefly look at the draft between me and johnny to see what made for suprisingly even teams.
I started off a bit behind the 8 ball giving up the next two picks plus goalie for Scott. Scott played fantastic defense, but brett looked to be almost full strength and figured out he doesn't need his ring finger to run hard.
The equation:
Griff + Brett + Steve = Scott.
I suppose it's close but the goaltending was a big difference. Steve played pretty well besides a weak slapshot from me and maybe one other goal. Jimmy played as expected but i've definately seen him play better than that.
Moving on, the steal of the draft was getting matt sandwiched between johnny's picks of chris and brendon. Chris played okay and Brendon said he was cold so he had his built in excuse to play mediocre.
Reggie and Dale were picked late because they weren't there yet and they pretty much washed each other out. Dale has been off for a couple weeks now, Reggie had no chance to repeat last weeks performance.
Bradley was a nice suprise showing some grit along the boards.
Nick in round 3 i guess was worth it, I haven't been as high on his play this year as johnny has, but he played well. I'm thinking of doing another long boring post just on what i want nick to do better.
I'll throw some props lenny's way other wise he'll complain he wasn't mentioned. Good passing lenny i missed some gimmie goals you fed me, and that goal you scored almost made us believe you were aiming there.
As for the stats getting updated, we have our meeting switched to tonight and I had to come up with the new sound schedule. I'll have them ready for Nick to post tomorrow though.
Jared, I've got to disagree on Steve's performance...he let up several soft goals, and didn't make many big saves. Jimmy wasn't great, but did a pretty good with the ball in close. All in all, you get the edge in that matchup since Steve was expected to play better, whereas Jimmy was probably on par.
Steve wasn't the reason why we played poorly though. Our forwards didn't want to run most of the night. Our defense played too soft, and got caught trapped way too often. As I said earlier, the chances that I did have I didn't bury.
Outside of Brett, no one played particularly well on our team.
Steve gave up more weak goals than jimmy. Jimmy gave up the 2 whiffs on the ball and through his legs. Steve gave up cheap long shots and close shots. And i actually think Jimmy is getting better.
But i say it was an off night for steve. I still take him every week over Jimmy
wow grass is greener i suppose. I'd say we tripled your shots on goal and 90% of our goals came in deep. My outside shot was the only one that he should have had. Scott's goals were going 300 miles an hour and lenny's shot was rediculous.
Jimmy's issues went beyond the hole in his stick. it was not being able to control rebounds like steve can do.
haha!! i was off by one point..TPJ!!! i had 5 points last week!! 4 points this week! so pffft!!!
Jimmy actually did really well at controlling rebounds last night.
I can also think of another goal you scored in close that Steve should have had: you were going in one on two and Steve left open the post allowing you to score short side...that should have been stopped.
Overall though I agree with Brett - it was just an off-night for Steve. He normally is much sharper.
lol, Jared. Thanks for the shout out.
I should have had two goals except for the horrible pass by you on the one where I was all alone in front of Steve. Steve and I could have had a sit down dinner for how long I was left open. And then you decide to casually pass it my way allowing it to get intercepted. Of course, I probably had six or seven bad plays to your one!
Really? Lenny shot was rediculous? yeah i guess so for the fact that it went in. It was slow and arcing and all steve had to do was get in the way, it rolled off his shoulder and in. Bad goal.
And Yeah scott shoots it fast, but if the goalie didn't stand straight up then he'd take up more of the net and atleast give himself a better chance and maybe take a few steps forward to cut down the angle
Has Jamie had the baby yet?
She could be due any day :)
As of yesterday the baby was 9 weeks along...and about the size of a grape.
who is everyones favorite player to play with? And who do you hate to play with?
I'd actually like to hear what Bradley has to say on this point(if he even reads the blog anymore)
"He may have let up some soft goals too"
MAY?? Were you watching the same game as me? Are you kidding me.
I hate it when people try to be nice.
The worst person to play with is...(cop out!) any winger that wont move to get open or move to get the ball when its rolling toward them. They wait for it. That describes half of saugus.
I love to play with Brett and Johnny. I work best with them. Not sure I play as well with Ron and Jared.
what happened to Mike D?
yeah brendon it worked out very well that one time...hehe
it's obvious who i like to play on the same team with, but tough to say who i don't like to play with.
either Jimmy or Billy. Jimmy for obvious reasons. But Billy because we've never ever had good chemistry. it's almost like we try too hard when we play together.
Also i'll be out for the rest of the season. Workmans Comp will start to get pushy and if they find out i've been playing hockey....there goes my checks.
So till i can actually work i won't be playing hockey either.
hahaha ya i'm out for the year too. Ya know unemployment has been following me around 24/7 and if they find out i'm spending all this time playing hockey and not looking for a job...there goes my checks. They've actually hired an entire task force of 20-30 undercover agents to monitor where i go and what i do, brett knows what i'm talking about. so long everyone, we'll see you next fall, actually better take next year off too, can't be too careful with these things.
brett, you could do what george does in seinfeld. Tell the unemployment office you are close to getting a job at "Vandelay Industries"
let's see that long boring post!
Okay nick, well for any constructive criticizm to work, you have to start with some compliments.
Things Nick does well...
- Very sound defensively, tough to beat 1 on 1.
- Hard shot, but we'll elaborate on that.
-Uses his hand to stop the ball in the air better than anyone.
-Goes up the boards and rarely makes "blind" passes over the middle, but we'll elaborate on that.
Okay Nick, there you go congradulations. Time to take it to the next level. And I will start with your offensive game which needs the most help. We all know you have to hit the net, so i won't get into that too much, but work on that, nothing kills offensive pressure more than a missed net. Try slowing your shot down or doing a Lee wrister. It goes beyond just hitting the net though. Try to keep those shots down like scott does in order to create rebounds.
This post will probably be longer than your recap but i'll keep going. When you get the ball at the point. Feel free to just dump it back down low if there's a defender in your way. You have the same problem every other defender has in saugus, if you get the ball at the point apparently it means automatically shoot it.
Moving on, I like when you pinch in, but you have to know when to pull off. That part is getting better and i'm not talking about the brett breakaway because i know that was my fault too. But when nothing is happening down low after you've pinched in, that's enough, back to the point, get back in position before they transition, and that rhymes so it should be easy to remember.
Now to your defense, which is good. However, odd man rushes are not your friend. Stay in passing lanes and keep shooters to one side. You tend to over play someone a little to hard leaving the other man too open.
When you have the ball and are looking for transition, sometimes they pull off the forcheck and cover us. You can't just throw it up the boards and blame wingers when we get broken up by johnny or brett who are camped out behind us. Use your other defensemen or run it up (which you're getting better at).
That's it for now, couple things i think you can easily work on. I mainly just want to see if my new picure works
it's not unemployment like Jared.
You ever hear of those people that camp out infront of houses and take pictures?
Some of them are stalkers, but some of them are Comp. workers making sure you aren't milking the system. And i can't chance it. That's why i said not till i can actually work. So you can call my bluff if you want but i'll be more than happy to go for beers every sunday.
that was actually constructive. Thanks
Brett, don't forget you can only have one beer if you're driving.
Rules are rules
Not sure how much longer I can listen to Butch and Buck talk about woman's basketball and Buck's terrible book Wicked Good Year.
Yay for all WEEI hosts getting 10 weeks vacation.
Griff, try the Sports Hub instead...
So Brett, when are you going back to work?
BTW, Mike D was sick on Sunday...he just texted me this morning.
My butt cheek still hurts!! i will never ever get in front of another scotty slapshot. i will use the johnny riley method...stand as far away as i can, close my eyes n stretch my sticloun..: p
What kind of a bizarro world is it when Brendon is the voice of reason?
Reg, it's all about self-preservation!
ya brendon stole my joke too. I have an idea brett. Come sunday, when you leave for hockey, drive around the block a couple times. Maybe go thru a drive thru or two just to see if they put a tag on. These guys are good tho, so when you get to hockey just sit on the bench for 10 minutes. A couple of us will make a couple laps around the rink and make sure no one is parked outside or watching us with oversized binoculars. We'll have to take turns having someone keep watch during the games to make sure no one shows up.
Together we can beat the system!
Brett there is definately one rule of thumb I learned from the Boston Fire Dept regarding workman's comp.
Don't take tons of steroids and enter body building competitions if you are out on workman's comp for a bad back.
I also am not sure your skill set used at hockey translates to your job. At Saugus you run around people like Bradley and score on Jimmy. Pretty sure that's not the most physically demanding work you could do.
If they do discontinue your workman's comp for playing hockey just show the judge a copy of the video from Saugus. I guarantee he reverses the decision based on the skill level.
um since my lawyer said it, yes i do. And since i know of other people who have had people sit outside their house and watch, i do think it will eventually get to that point.
I'm not saying they are doing it now, but it does happen quite often.
One sisters kids came off the bus(she was white, husband black, kids mixed) because the kids weren't white, the comp. worker that was watching reported that she was running a daycare. They knew she wasn't but all it takes is one report and the checks stop coming and you have to go fight it in court.
I'm not willing to go through that hastle.
My Brother inlaw was an under cover comp worker, so again yes i do think it happens cause people try to cheat the system all the time.
um What? That story is rediculous and probably not entirely true.
Brett i want a reasonable scenario in which a workmans comp. auditor follows you on a sunday night hockey from braintree to saugus to see what you're doing?
The auditors focus on people with questionable claims like back injuries or knee injuries. Those types of injuries are easy to fake. When you have all sorts of medical records and pictures of a murdered hand with extensive therapy, pretty sure they don't care about your 6 month claim. If you stayed on it for a couple years, then some red flags would pop up and they may check on you, (still not on sunday nights while you're driving to saugus).
How much longer were you planning on staying on anyways? 2 months? If somehow they shut you off a month early, would that really be the end of the world? Party would just be over and you'd just have to get a job.
Brett, has your doctor told you that you can't work? You said before that he told you that you COULD be playing hockey, that it therapy for your hand.
If you are following the doctor's instructions then you should be okay.
what if they are reading this site right now, brett? They could have hacked into the system.
Your entire plot could be compromised. Throw your computer out the window, before its too late.
Brett i still read the blog
I like playing with johny and scotty. They are more likely to pass it to me, more then you do brett. I dont like to play with dale or Ron cause i feel they dont trust me with the ball. so they feel that a bad angle shot is a better move then passing to a width open guy(me) to score. And that's that.
"width open guy(me) to score"
are you calling yourself fat?
Brett, Brad has challanged you to hurt his feelings.
it's just what ive heard from other people who have been collecting comp. Even my boss said not to play hockey so they don't catch me. I never want the party to stop.
Johnny, as far as the doctors saying no work, They re-evaluate me tomorrow. So i don't know what they'll say this time.
it's almost as paranoid as people who stop blogging so that other people will stop impersonating them on a stinkin blog site :)
brett, is it really a party without hockey?
Bradley's saying it as it is!
stats are up
Hey bradley, you're welcome for your goal sunday. No props for me? I'm way easier on you than johnny!!! I want to be loved!
12-21-09
Only 5 this week, till we get things running at full speed here at our new offices. Plus if Nick does come out with the scout’s interview, I can always 1 up him and do the bottom 5.
5 JR - Not the goal scorer we’re use to seeing, and it’s not cause he didn’t have chances and no it wasn’t just the thumb. It’s called an off night. Ever since that challenge to hit 300 points, Johnny has stumbled a bit in his quest. The assists were there tonight though and so was the back-checking.
4 Reggie - I motion that we put a picture of Reggie’s Left butt cheek on the website, right next to Brett’s hand(it‘s just as gross). What a price to pay to block a shot. It looked like he was growing a third buttock. But it was the flashes of brilliance from Reggie that get him on the rankings this week. And Nick, Reggie played some good D next to Chris.
3 Brett - No assists usually would mean missing the rankings for Brett. But 5 goals and a GW were just what the Dark team needed from him this week.
2 Scott - Although the Dark team played good D verse him, Scott will always manage to get his goals, cause you can’t block every shot(and after seeing Reggie’s butt, who would want to) who knew he was such a good passer too? Jared and Scott seem to be developing some good chemistry at the same time also.
1 Jared - Brett might be faster, but apparently Jared is stronger as he out muscled Brett for the ball in front and scored. Jared capitalized on the mistakes from the dark team and their goalie.
Honorable Mention:
Griff - Probably would have made the top 5 if Brett was willing to play with him.(he was on his team by the way)
Dishonorable Mention:
Jimmy - The dark team doesn’t win a game without him trying to be Martin Brodeur with the ball....cause he ended up looking more like Timmy T trying to handle the ball.
Just a thought, Could there be a slight chance that yhe offense isn't playing as well because the "D" is getting tougher to score on. Take away all the soft goals and you have 5 less or so, and thats a hit for the stat sheet.
Matt, I've actually said that earlier this year: the defense has gotten better, and made it more difficult to score. I thought that both you and Nick played very well this past week.
On the other hand I just could not shoot this past week. I couldn't hit the net half of the time, let alone try to pick corners. So with the chances I did have, I at least should have had 5 or 6 goals.
I think the defense limited my opportunities to score, but I had enough chances where I should have done so more often.
Never even heard you...
I've found when you have a frustrating night offensively that as the night goes on, shots that you would normally make don't go in - for whatever reason you change the way you shoot.
Normally I would nail that shot (Jimmy gave me enough to shoot at), but it was a bad decision to shoot it in the first place - I should have simply deked around him.
The funny thing is, I had no idea that would have won the game...I thought that would have been the 4th goal.
WPR thanks for the Props.. My cheek is still very sore..lol. It's too late to put a picture up as i never took one and my wife refused to do so or anything more than put an ice pack on it say "thats gross" and walk away. That being said I am never getting in front of another scotty shot for real. i paid the price and i really dont feel like paying again. I wonder if they make butt cups (insert gay joke here)?
Thanks for the goal jared. You are easier on me but he passes to me more often than you do sorry.
do I want you to bring out the bottom 5?
I could be on that list...lol
is there hockey this week?
Hockey this Sunday at 5:30, indoor rink.
get there early so we can take full advantage of our time!!
