Stats this week

2 comments:
Hey guys, The stats this week (once Nick posts them) were as close as I could get them. For whatever reason, despite the White team keeping track of the stats, their stats seemed to be off. Based on what I have recorded, remembered, and discussed with certain people, these should be pretty reflective of what happened. Some of the order of goals might have been off for the White team, but hopefully everyone was given the correct amount of points. The Black team's stats were in much better shape.

There was also a lot of confusion for Game 5. I have my reservations counting it since a lot of people were not taking it seriously, and I could have sworn the Black team won that one as well. However, since I have 5 goals recorded for the White team, and I'm feeling charitable, I have decided to count it and give them the win (having four wins of our own makes that a little easier). If anybody is too concerned about it, the only other option is to not count game 5.

This coming week we need to do a better job at recording things accurately.

Recap

9 comments:
White Team v.s Grey Black team(Reggie get with the program). Macaulay Culkin v.s Geraldo Rivera. BoldBrad's mouth guard against, well, Mike's mouth guard. Adam Dunn dueling against his own teammate, the Ostrich. It was the week of battles. I guess Friday night is alright for fighting too.

*Game one was all about the Black team. It was a 5-0 shellacking! Defense in game one by the black team was shutting down everything the white team could throw at it. Not to mention the great goal tending by Dave. "He was sensational!" one scout said of Riley. "It's too bad he doesn't play more often out in Utah, their chances in tournaments would skyrocket!"

*By Game two, the scout was singing a different tune: "Now that was a competitive game" exclaimed the scout. "But a win is a win, nonetheless." The white had a 4-3 lead and looked as if they were rolling to victory. A defeat that would have evened the days score at 1-1. It didn't happen, though. Nick, Reggie and Chris had some huge stops. Hey, even Johnny came back!

*Hey! Are you hustling? Yeah, you know who you are. Game three was a game of hustle. The most notable hustle was by the strikeout king himself. Nick not only pushed himself but he willed himself to get the Black team back in the game. (You hear that? Yeah, I hear it too) Nick out hustled Brendon and Mike D. Then he made a sensational pass to John to get the black team rolling. At the snap of the fingers, a 3-1 cushion for the white team turned into a 5-3 loss. "Burton changed that game. Without him Brett, Johnny and the rest of the team would have been looking at a bitter loss."

*Ok, i will stop writting in the third person. Did game three take the wind out the white team by the start of game four? "I think so." said one casual observer. "They looked flat. I was shocked that they [Craig] mustard out two goals in this game."

*Game Five (surprisingly we squeezed in a full fifth game. Yes we got the entire thing in!) 5-4 in favor of the white team. Yes, they managed a win. But the true story of the day for the white team was Mike D's strange ability to hit the post. Man Mike, I hit the post once and was aggravated. Is there a word to describe how you feel?

Do you feel a draft, Bill?

12 comments:
"No, its not a draft, it's the wind from Nick swinging and missing again! Didn't you know that the wind moves horizontally, while a draft moves vertically? Clearly that was a horizontal wind gust from Nick swinging and missing! (Or as I like to call it: "Pulling a Brendon") Yes, it was your typical Friday night at hockey town. Lets get right to the notes:

  • Any one see that moustache Griff had?
Griff=George? Nahh, its not as thick and full
  • TINK, TINK, TINK!!!!
  • Hey, Mike D how many posts did you hit?

  • “Is that kid rollerblading?”-asked a casual observer “Believe it or not, he is”-was the reply “Why???? That’s got to be some kind of unfair advantage!”
  • "Did you just pass it to Nick??!!!???" asked Brett. "What are you thinking!" Last week Brett decided that Brendon's "Game Winaaaaaaaahhhaaaa!!!" chant after a game was not uplifting. I have to say Brett, I was very uplifted as your teamate after those comments to John.(Not J-o-n, but J-o-h-n. The former is M.I.A) We were 4-1, so what's the difference, right?
  • Mike Ward came in with most wins of any player on the season, after a 4-loss day he may lose that spot. Redemption next week, Mike?"
  • I still need tape, if anyone cares.
  • And Finally, Johnny will not get to the stats until Monday. It shows his devotion to the site.

BREAKING NEWS(12/21/08): Multiple Sources have confirmed that hockey will not be happening this week. And Mark Teixeira will sign with the Red Sox. More news as it comes in.

      Hi guys,

It looks like we’re going to cancel hockey for this weekend. The weather looks lousy on Sunday, and I tried to switch it to tomorrow and they had nothing available.

We will just plan for next weekend. I’ll send an email out on Monday about the day and time.

If the weather does not end up as bad is it seems for this week, we might try to play last minute on Sunday, but if you don’t hear from me then assume we’re not playing.

      Incomplete Games; Counted How?

      47 comments:
There is now a poll up for your opinion. Majority rules.

So far, as Nick described it is exactly how it is: if we have an unfinished game, it still have to count as a game if we want to count the stats from it. Otherwise, other stats like GPG, GAA, etc would all be inaccurate. And since nobody actually "won" the game, it shows up as a loss. This is how we've handled it in the past. We have a couple of options if we want to change it:

      1. Any unfinished games don't count stat-wise.

      2. Everyone gets a win for unfinished games.

      3. Without being too technical, I can create another field behind the scenes which will indicate if it's not a complete game. This would prevent the games counting when I calculate the wins / win %, yet still allow gpg, ppg, and gaa to still be accurate. The only problem with this is that a person's "Games Played" totals will be different based on the stat you are looking at.

Either way, let me know and I can change according to what everyone wants.

      Power Outage

      9 comments:
This was a night that saw the Black team unable to do anything. Forced to start without top pick Brett, the Black team had the dauting task of facing Dave in his first start of the year in net. At the outset it looked as though the White team would have a decided edge in net, but goaltending really didn't make a difference. The black team barely generated any offense in game one, losing 5-0, with Dave barely breaking a sweat. At the other end, Jack, who was also making his season debut, shook off early rust and played very well, yet still suffered the defeat.

Brett made it for Game 2, yet the Black team still fell behind early. They started generating some scoring chances though, as Mike D struck first, followed by 2 consecutive goals by John. Unfortunately that's as far as they got as the White team won the game 5-3.

Game 3 was more of the same, with the same results - a 5-3 victory by the White team. The top line of Jared, Cliff, and Brendon paced the offense all night, while Joe, Mike W, Chris, and Dale did a good job pinching in and breaking up the chances the Black team had.

Game 4 finally saw the Black team avoided defeat - the accomplishment of the night! Perhaps something to build on for next week?

Game notes: Cliff was the standout offensively equaling the number of goals the Black team scored (8).

Very strong play by Dave for his debut. The Black team was outplayed overall, but if the White team had weaker goaltending the Black team might have snuck out a game.

The Black team's biggest struggles were positioning and mobility from their D. Too often guys weren't in position for rebounds, forwards were caught too deep and lost too many one-on-one battles. Defensively they couldn't match the speed of the White team which led to many odd-man rushes. Even when they were back in position the D did not do a good job tying up their man.

Despite a 4 goal night from Mike D, and some strong puck carrying from Brett, the Black team never really was consistent on offense. Expect a much better effort next week.

      UPDATE: The Stats are updated-Nick

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...but for the black team, it was mostly the worst of times. What else could you say about the slaughter that was last Sunday Night? Teams were chosen by Brett and Jared, and each side had no complaints...until the end of the first game, which the white team won in a shutout. The black team's captain, Jared, was asked if he wanted a trade, but declined on the basis that he wanted some revenge. And they got some in the second game, scoring two goals...which would also be the last time they scored in any of the four games played that night. After a 5-2 loss, TPJ was asked again if he wanted a trade, but declined yet again. Perhaps they felt as though they were making some progress with their increase in scoring during the second game. Either way, the black team had a chip on their shoulder and wanted to prove they could put up a fight. They couldn't. Not one punch. Not even a sissy slap on the face. With the non-warmed-up-before-the-game John in net, the white team rolled to two more shutouts. OUCH. A bystander overheard Steve the Goalie saying to his team: "Where's the defense? I'm surrounded by white jerseys! No one's on him! Cover the point!" Steve did his best to stop the onslaught, but even on his best night, he could do nothing, as there was no denying the white team for the sheer number of chances they had.

Usually, it isn't all one-sided...but this time it was. It was humiliating, embarassing, and the black team may not live it down until next week. Will they switch it up, or come back for more? Will TPJ use his managerial skills to trade for a first-round pick, or perhaps two second-round picks to be named later? Or will he realize that there is nowhere to go from here but up, and fight his way out of yet another debacle? Will Dale pass the puck when he has a two-on-none breakaway, or will he trip over his own stick? Will JB show up next week to help out his beloved dark team, and if so, will the four cheeseburgers he ate give him indigestion and yet another excuse to use when they lose? All these questions and more will be answered next week for more Sunday Night Game Action....stay tuned!

Here are some thoughts to ponder over: -Newcomer Derek scored as many goals as TPJ, and had more points (through four games) than did Newcomer Brian, Nick, Mike D, Reggie, and Dale COMBINED. -Everyone scored at least one goal each on the white team. -The white team had 19 of 20 possible points, while the black team had 3 of 4 possible points. -Lenny had more goals than anyone on the black team. -Possible new records: 1) 20 goals by one team in one week 2) 3 shutouts in one week 3) 0.5 GAA in one week 4) Highest combination of points between two players in one week: 24 (Brendon & Brett) 5) Highest combination of points between three players in one week: 32 (Brendon, Brett, Cliff) Editor's Note: Some of these are not records; official records will be posted later this week.

      Here are some stats to chew on: -John (Goalie) 2 goals allowed through 4 games; 0.5 GAA, 4 wins, 3 shutouts -Brendon 13 points (4 goals, 9 assists), 4 wins, 2 Gamewinners -Brett 11 points (6 goals, 5 assists), 4 wins, 1 Gamewinner -Cliff 8 points (6 goals, 2 assists), 4 wins, 1 Gamewinner -Mike W 4 points (1 goals, 3 assists), 4 wins -Lenny 2 points (2 goals, 0 assists), 4 wins -Derek 1 points (1 goal, 0 assists), 4 wins

-TPJ 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist), 4 losses -Chris 1 point (1 goal), 4 losses -Dale -1 point (should have had an assisted goal on that 2-on-none breakaway! Pass it next time!)

Something tells me that the weekly_power_rankings will, for the first time this year, be made up of 5 players from the same team...but in what order? And will anyone on the black team get an honorable mention? Stay tuned to find out!(Nick deserves an honorable mention)

      A Night of Controversy

      4 comments:
The rivalry continued to build this past Sunday, as the White team and Dark team squared off in a grueling 3-game battle. Due to an early start time, Jared and Brett were captains of the Dark team and White team respectively. Jared, trying to build off of his team's rousing come-from-behind win last week, did some recruiting, adding Jon B and Skippy Fin Fin (aka Scotty F). Jared's team looked to be very formidable. The White team's hope was that Steve F would be able to continue his stellar play from last week.

The first game got under way, and John R was able to score on a couple of one-timers, from Matt S and Brett respectively. The Dark team fought hard though, and kept the game close. The night's first controversey occured as the Dark team scored their third goal. The puck twice looked to go offsides, which after calls from the bench caused the White team to stop play. At that moment Joe Nap fired a shot from the point which eluded Steve, tying the game at three. The Dark team tried to rationalize their ill-gotten goal by saying that the puck-carrier didn't say it was offsides. That however, was quite the faulty reasoning since the puckcarrier NEVER makes the offsides call. Nevertheless, the goal stood. The dark team continued their underhanded play by thwarting an attempted break-in, sending Lenny onto the rink as the sixth player to break up a scoring chance. Apparently that was the secret play that Jared was working on this past week. The tie did not last too long though as Brendon scored the go-ahead to make it 4-3. Again, there proved to be controversy. On this play Brendon took one shot at a puck that was lying loose in the crease. The Dark team said that the puck was frozen, and the goal shouldn't have counted. However, Team Captain Jared was told no whistle was blown - logic that he could not argue with. The win came from an unlikely source. Brett, who despite a fantastic start to the season was known as the "Anti-Clutch" took a pass into the zone and ran up the left side, snapping a puck past Jimmy for the win. His teammates were so stunned they did not know what to do for a moment. Belated celebrating then ensued.

Game 2 toned down the controversey, as well as the drama. The White team easily won 5-2. It's hard to say if the Dark team suffered from a carry-over from Game 1, or if the loss of Cliff to a night-ending injury weighed too much on the team. Either way, Brett found scoring the gamewinner to be addicting, and iced game number two as well.

Jared knew something had to be done for Game 3. The first thing he did was kidnap Lee from the White team. Next he had a true stroke of genius: form the first semi-nude line, as Jon B and Jared played shirtless. The White team did not know how to handle this development. One player overheard Nick say about Jon B: "I am not going anywhere near THAT!". Jared just confused everyone - he was so pale it looked like he was on the White team. That moved, along with sheer fatigue from White team proved to be too much, as the (mostly) Dark team prevailed 5-0. One postive: Brett manage not to hurl on the bench this week, despite having to watch the shirtless-duo in Game 3.

Game Notes: Very good play by Matt S, Nick B, and Matt D defensively for the White team. Mike D was very solid on the wings. John and Brett weren't as explosive as past games, due mostly to constantly battling with Scotty all night, and Johnny not being able to hit the net in Games 2 and 3. Brendon's play was disappointing this past week, with some fairly passive play and some poor decisions with the puck. He did have the goal of the night though, summoning his inner-Ovechkin and scoring while lying on the ground. Also for the White team was the return of Evil Dale. Semi-Team Player Dale this week never had a chance, as he didn't want to waste time passing with the shortened time-frame.

For the Dark team, despite not having many points to show for it, Scotty was a force all night long, battling for the puck and making plays. JB brought hustle not seen from him since last season, and a defense consisting of Mike Ward, Joe, and Lenny played very well defensively, and even contributed some offense (Lenny recording his first Game Winner). Jimmy was out-played by Steve the first two games, but made up for it with his Shutout in Game 3.

UPDATE: We’re on…we have the rink from 6:00 – 8:00. We need to start playing by 6:30, so goalies should be there by 6:00, and should be warming up with teams picked by 6:15. Brendon will collect and open the rink, Jared and Brett can pick the teams.

      Hi guys

Unfortunately they accidentally scheduled another group this week at 8:00 (they apologized for the mistake). The only way we’ll be able to play this Sunday is if we do 6:30 – 8:00, a half hour shorter than normal.

My meeting runs until 5:45, so we can make it right by 6:30. What we’ll need to do is have somebody (probably Brendon) be able to collect and open the rink a little earlier, and make sure the goalies are suited up, and the teams picked by 6:30.

Let me know if you’re able to make it, and I’ll try to call tomorrow and book the rink.

      Are you "clutch"?

      1 comment:
Hey Guys, 2 new stats have been added to the Career Stat section. We are defining clutch as a goal "when both teams need one more goal to win." Or in other words: A goal in a 4-4 tie.

No I'm not talking about Shaq's old stomping grounds, the ghetto, home of the Marlins and Dwayne. I'm talking about Jon Borges, I'm actually starting to miss the rancid smell of garlic cloves in the air! Well, only a little...to this weeks notes...

*Defense,Defense, Defense! Both Game One and two consisted of strong defensive efforts by both teams and resulted in what seemed to be longer games then usual. OK enough about the first two games, Game three was the game to be apart of so Lets get a biased opinion from Brett:

After two hard fought games from the Dark side, and two losses, they got even worse news . . . . . Joe pulled a muscle, apparently. What a blessing in disguise that turned out to be. Brendan filled in Joe's pads and headed to the white team along with Reggie. In return the dark team got, red hot goaltender, Steve. The dark team claimed a 1-0 lead that would hold for quite some time till finally Steve was solved by the white team. Shot after shot, save after save, Steve did all he could do to keep his team in the final game of the night. While the score was 4-2 in favor of the white team, Steve made stellar saves on the likes of Brett and Johnny Riley from point blank range. Brendan wasn't his usual self in net either, he was stopping the ball, matching save for save with Steve, with one imparticular being on Mr. Meadows. Brett developed cramps in his legs and had to sit himself down which was the only window of opportunity the dark team needed.*(see footnote) They clawed their way back from a 4-2 deficite and got, not pretty goals, but well deserved goals from both Mikes, and stole the game from the white team with a Mike Ward GAMEWINNER!!"

*It's interesting to note that it was at the same time that Brett sat out, that Jared did the same. So which gave the dark team that spark? Jared taking a timely line change, or Brett's hamstrings doing a yo-yo trick forcing him to sit?

Got an Opinion of game three? Send me an email, if its biased enough I will add it to the post...(nickbuurton88@hotmail.com)

      Stats Corner

      6 comments:
Fast Start For Reggie Reggie S is enjoying his best start to a season. Currently ranks 5th in goals (4) and 5th in points (6). Those 4 goals have come in just 8 games, a .5 goals per game average. Prior to this season Reggie had 10 goals in 37 games, a .27 goals per game pace.

Early Vezina Favorite? Jimmy C, while still shaking obvious rust from his game, has compiled some impressive numbers thus far with a 7-1 record, 2.37 GAA, and 1 Shutout. Last year's winner Tony still has yet to play a game...

Rivals Perhaps the closest rivalry has been between Nick B and Lee. They've played 46 games, with Nick winning 23 games, and Lee winning 22 (there was 1 tie). Nick has scored 2 goals in those games, Lee 1.

Just Who is the Better Driscoll? Thanks to a record-setting start to the year, Brett not only has joined the top 5 in Career Scoring, but he has started his campaign for the title of Better Driscoll. While Billy still has more goals than Brett (24 to 20), Brett has surpassed Billy in total points (53 to 42), wins (14 to 11) and winning % (58.3 to 42.3). It is worth noting though that Billy has edge in head-to-head play: 6 wins to 4, 15 goals to 10.

Milestones We've already seen some broken this year: Jared (150 points), Brendon (100 points) and Brett (50 points). This year should see Jared and Jon B both pass the 100 goal mark, Brad and Reggie the 20 goal mark, and Nick 10 (he needs to get two so it's a bit of a stretch). Congrats to all.

      10/26/08 Recap

      20 comments:
It was another action packed week on the rink. Things were different this week as JB did not arrive (an unconfirmed soure reportedly placed Borges and Doug S. at home, sharing a bowl of popcorn while awaiting the start of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition). As a result, Lee took over the role of captain for the White team. Lee gambled with his first pick, choosing Jared. Sans Borges, Lee was banking on a monster game from the sniper. Unfortunately, Jared too was not to be found - at that moment he was escaping from a family reunion, showing true determination and team spirit.

Too bad for the White team, they had to start play without Jared. The Dark team was able to win a 5-0 shutout, thanks to some solid goaltending from Jimmy, some great playmaking from Brett, and a timely goal from The Gimp (for those of you who were not there, that was Brendon, who showed admirable courage playing on one leg after suffering a near-fatal muscle pull during warmups).

Game 2 though the White team fought hard. Buoyed by Jared and Matt S on the attack they fought to a 4-4 tie before Johnny and Brett had a partial two-on-one break. Brett passed to John who one-timed a perfect changeup at Steve. Steve, while stopping previous one-timers, was not expecting the 12 mph floater, and had the ball riccochet off of his glove under the crossbar.

Before Game 3 the White team decided to strategize. Lenny, upon feeling "patronized" by a member of the dark team, vowed retribution. "We'll see how the dark team feels when we start to Griff them", he was overheard saying. Reggie, who played some of his best hockey last night, at that point tried putting the team on his back, and scored the only goal for the White team. Yet his efforts were not enough as the dark team prevailed once again, this time by a score of 5-1.

Game 4 saw the White team's resolve start to break down. Reggie despite having a pass given to him which would have given him a clear breakaway, saw a streaking Nick heading towards him and developed the first case of "Alligator Arms" in Saugus history, and let the pass fly by. The Dark team received continued great play from the Mikes (D and P) and were able to win fairly easily, 5-1. The last goal was scored by Mike P, his first of the season, after a stellar display of unselfishness on the part of John, the likes of which we haven't seen since Brendon willingly sacrificed his body and pride and held up, allowing Ariel to run him over with a check so that she would not end up hospitalized. Upon seeing that pass to Mike P, an anonymous player overheard Dale commending the play, although adding that "he would have shot the ball off of Mike P and picked up the rebound, so that he could get both the goal and the assist".

      Recap

      24 comments:
The first week of 2008-2009 Hockey season has begun and it started singly. There is nothing special to report, everything you would have expected to happen on this 19th of October happened just as you would have thought. Well, not really. First off the Red Sox lost! Wait, wait. This is the hockey site, not SOSH, i will rant over there...let's get right into this weeks notes...

*Will start of with how terrible Brad is at hockey, wait hold on Nick! What am I talking about? 3 goals? Holy Cow! One scout at the game said of Brad "He looks like the second coming of his father" [yuck, yuck] Game one and two Brad was really holding his own on D and played solidly, but in game 3 and 4 he really turned in on, combining for 3 goals in the two games. It was no coincidence that the only game his team won was the game Brad scored two points...One loud mouth observer said "We should have traded Mike Ward for Brad after game 2 when we had the chance."
*It was the week of the unexpected at hockey town: "A shutout? Great game by Steve but I think Jared could have gotten a shutout in that one..." said one scout. An absolutely pathetic showing by the white team, everything seemed to go the black teams way, they got the bounces off the boards and they were even given the ball by some white defenders(TONY!!)
*With Brad being Borges' favorite whipping boy over the years and Brad having the week of his life-Borges had to choose someone else to rag on. "Better Jimmy then me" said one casual observer,"Borges' equipment smells awful...the further he is away from me the better"
*I would like to say thank you to Joe, for his actions against the boards.(Brett say thank you) And I would like to thank all(1) of our anonymous posters(Jared having an argument with himself) for being the voice of reason in the comments.

Last week got off to a good start, we had a good group show up for the first game. We play this week from 7-9 on the outdoor rink. Mostly everyone was on time last week, let’s try for that again, especially in light of the 7:00 time.

      Season 3

      10 comments:
Hi guys, We're starting hockey in Saugus up again for the year. The plan is to start on Sunday the 26th, although if there is enough interest we could start this week. We'll be playing at 7:00 until January, at which point we'll be able to get an earlier start time (either 5 or 6). Let me know who is able to play.

Also, Nick has disabled anonymous blogging this year as there were far too many personal attacks going on. If you have a Google account you can use that to sign in, otherwise you'll have to create a Google account to post. Still feel free to debate / argue / critique performances, but without the name-calling that if often degenerated into last year.

Figured we can finally start a new post. Since we have a 4:00 meeting otherwise I'd make the time earlier. Get in touch with me if you're able to come. Since it's last minute we'll keep things simple and do some dessert / appetizer type things, and then we can all order out for pizza/subs or something. Maybe we'll watch "All Dogs Go To Heaven" after we're done discussing Florida.

      Cast your votes!!!

      107 comments:
Three new Polls to think about. I know one will have a runnaway winner, but I couldn't resist!
This method will work fine if you let the system work. Simply select your top players for each category and watch the tallies grow. I would recommend you select 3-5 choices. Like was mentioned before, we realize people can screw around and vote several times for themselves. Obviously no can stop you, but let’s not do that ans just have some fun and see how things shake out. In past POLLS we typically have 15-20 people taking part.

      Polls

      9 comments:
We decided that the best way to handle this was to nominate players for each award. Each Player would get their own poll where you can give them a first place vote or a second place, etc. We started out with best rookie and we nominated Brett, Billy and Eric. If you give one player a first place vote you should not give anyone else a first place vote. We will tally it up by saying a

      First place vote=3 Pt's

      Second place vote=2 Pt's

      Third place vote=1 Pt(s)

The person that tallies the most points wins.

EDIT- We are having technical difficulties with the polls, they will hopefully be up soon.....

      Recap

      6 comments:
There were some awkward moments and some angry moments. There were bad shots (mostly by Nick) and some great shots(actually, Nick had one of those too.) Yes, Im done talking in the third person....Sounds like a typical week at hockey town......

*In my last recap, I felt that tempers were at an all time high-I couldn't have been more wrong. One scout said of the tempers: "The "contact" between Joe and Eric seemed to mirror an angry Griffin on someones stick. If i was only listening to the audio of the conflict I would have thought the shouting was between Griffin and Meadows...."

*You know it's just another week at hockey when Brendon falls down in what looks to be a career ending injury, only to be up in a full 'sprint' minutes later. One observer said "You'd think with all the times this has happened his hammy would be curled up to the back of his thigh."

*How do you think your face would feel after being jammed by the butt of Eric's stick? Just ask Brett. After the accident and Brett was on the ground in obvious pain one opposing player said "Good, I need to get a drink". Meanwhile, as Brett was Bleeding all over Billy's yellow shirt, Jared was trying to past the time with his usual terrible jokes until Brendon came "sprinting" back with the first aid kit.

*The dark team was up 4-2 when Brett went down with injury, and they ended up losing 5-4, apparently, Eric knew what he was doing when he knocked the "heart and soul" of the dark team out of the game.

Will all longnecks please step forward?

Who wants to be a Longneck this Fall?

We need to put this team together soon. I can host a "let's bang some names around" party at my home within the next 3 weeks or so.

I have recruited 3 new guys. One goalie, 2 players. They will come to Saugus when play resumes.

Who else wants to come, or has expressed interest in joining us?

I understand Billy is unlikely at this point, I have my doubts Scotty will commit to coming, but hopefully, there's still a slim chance both come.

JB, John, Jared and Billy, Ron, Eric
      Brett, Bob
      Scotty, Griff

Mark Kimple, Devon Kimple Dave Kimple (G), Tony A (G)

Are Dave, Mark and Devon going to match the jewels I found last year in Brett, Billy and Eric? The answer is No, but they will provide us with good depth and grit.

      Recap

      13 comments:
Lots of stuff to get caught up on from a busy Sunday, so let's get right to the notes.

*Last night consisted of three extremely competitive games, despite Jared having to take over in between the posts. One veteran scout said of Jared's play "How did he even win a game?" Jared somehow managed to allow three backhanded goals to Dale.

*Game One of last night was a 5-4 final, so it needed no more competitive rage between players, but we still managed some fireworks. Brendon knocked Bradley to the ground only to entice Bradley to yell and attempt to orchestrate a "pick" against Brendon, it of course failed.

*Maybe we need to add another stat to the site? No, Johnny don't get too excited. NO more stats! One spectator said of Brendon and Dale "are they going for the record of least amount of passes in a game?"

*Borges gave his all last night while playing with not only a hobbled ankle but also third degree burns across his chest. The same cant be said of Brett and Billy, one veteran player on the dark team said of them "If they cant handle the New England heat, how are they going to handle the heat in Florida?" A phone call saying that you wouldn't be able to make it would have been nice guys or at the very least pick up your phones. One scout said "I question the toughness of these players and I question thier commitment to the team...I hope they prove me wrong."

      Stats

      4 comments:
This will be a small post for you guys. The stats were updated and I seperated the 'Rivals' stat to its own page. Also added 2 new polls.

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed...

      8 comments:
It felt almost like a wedding Sunday night. Brett, played the role of the nervous groom and hurled up his stomach contents. The videographer, Ron, never showed up. And Tony was the bride that was late, leaving all spectators to wonder if he had gotten cold feet. In the end, it was a night to be remembered.

After all, there was something old: Veteran player Dale made his 2007-2008 debut Sunday night. Officially Dale had been listed as being on the Physically Unable to Perform list, although unconfirmed sources report he had been serving a suspension for violating the league's approved eye-gear policy. In any event, Dale was part of a defense corp that performed admirably, spear-headed by Tony's near flawless play in net.

Sunday night also featured something new: Ross and Jeff made their Saugus debut. Both players played well: Jeff showcasing an all-around game, and Ross showcasing the butterfly technique that made former career-long Colorado goalie Patrick Roy famous. Unfortunately their efforts alone could not stop the attack of the White team, who were buzzing around in the offensive zone all night (led by the attack of Johnny, Jared, and Brett). Reports after the game were that Ross was being treated for Repetitive Stress syndrome, the result of retrieving the ball from the net too many times. Team sources would not confirm however.

Something was borrowed: In the "What else is new Category", Nick borrowed someone's stick again. Nick was quoted as saying: "When Griff breaks the next stick I use, I'd rather it not be one that I paid for".

And finally, there was something blue. Or rather an entire team that was blue. That's right, the black team was blue. Losing all four games was bad enough, but scoring only 5 goals in 4 games is downright depressing. After the game Borges reportedly was set to become the first coach in Saugus history to carry out a public flogging of one of his players for, but hesitated when informed it was in fact against league rules.

One side-note note from this week’s action: Team White attempted to sabotage the black team by convincing winger Billy D to play with roller blades on. However the plot was sniffed out by team veteran Bobcat, who sought revenge in the form of Brett. Rumors allege that in return for a box of pink MTL t-shirts, White team winger Brett agreed to hurl all over his team bench, forcing Team White to vacate their bench for the remainder of the night.

That's all for today. This Sunday's game is at 6:45.

Ok boys and girls the HTSN network is officially open for business. The video editing is definitely a work in progress. We want and expect your feedback, recommendations and opinions. After viewing the 2 game clips and the shoot out, tell us who your 3 stars are? That’s right only 3 stars, so think carefully, we don’t want anyone’s feelings hurt. For those who would like to see the clips in a slightly larger size. You can find them in YouTube, the channel is PPPHockey. Somebody already reserved TripleP username (I wasn't too happy about that!) NOTE: Clip 1 was messed up and so I did a redo. I also renamed the clips; it takes a while to propagate. You'll know it's ready for viewing when you see updated Stills of each video.

The links are on the side bar. Some Stats to Ponder about... Despite being criticized for his play at times, Brendon is tied as the all time wins leader. He is tied with a player that doesn't deserve that many wins, considering his play...(sorry couldnt resist) Nick has now passed Reggie in Assists on the season-How does that make Reggie look? In a past poll we asked you who would end up with more goals this year:Reggie or Luke? 13 people(56%)said Luke would, while 10(43%) said Reggie... They are now tied at three...

The first nite on TV is in the video archive

      22 comments:

Old Triple P was shivering on the sidelines while manning the camera. It was interesting capturing the video, but hard to follow the entire action. Once thing I couldn’t miss was the salty dog is really fast and he showed plenty of sweet moves that left people in their tracks. Skippy Fin Fin was a force to be reckoned with when he had the ball. The white team was embarrassing in game one. Completely dominated by Eric, Billy and Scotty. To my surprise, they stayed with it and turned the tables on the Dark team with an improbable comeback on the middle games.

The dark team wasn’t going to be denied as they pulled out the final game for a 2-2 FINISH. The video editing is going to take some time. I’m only putting up the Shoot out for tonight. Hopefully by Tuesday, the highlights will be up there.

ATTENTION: Put your Game Face On

      50 comments:
There has been tremendous interest shown in both players and game action on Sunday Night in Hockey Town. That’s right; at least one or two people are talking about it! You guessed it, one or two people was all that was needed for me to make this special announcement. Ladies and gentlemen, it is my great pleasure to announce that the Hockey Town Sunday Night Television Network has been officially launched. The HTSN Network will be on site this weekend to begin its inaugural coverage. There will be player interviews, game highlights, and possibly a blooper or two to round things out. Bring you’re AAA game… because you could either make the highlight film, or the blooper film! Details are still being worked out. For instance, since we have no sponsors, we will need volunteers. This weekend we’re covered, because the medical team had sidelined Master Ron from playing. He refused treatment from the team trainer, Big Goggles Bubba for a nagging groin injury. He’s decided wait at least a week before letting BGB work on him; Beth is reviewing his treatment recommendations! So Ron will be moving around the action looking to capture some highlight plays and the bone headed plays we’ve come to know and love. So, if you have any special features you’d like to see, post your suggestions right here. The production crew will decide on the best format to use. The editing crew will also ensure that all coverage meets (with eyes squinted)... the highest standards that this blog is known for. Your cooperation is much appreciated.

I’m calling you out, for an answer that is!

      38 comments:
This was a night to remember or a night to forget depending on which bench you sitting on. Some events can easily be explained while others need answers. For the white team, they were simply scintillating in how they controlled the play in the offensive zone on nearly every trip in. They controlled every loose ball, they intercepted passes and they dismantled the dark teams defense. For the dark team, it was a night of disbelief, frustration, and uncharacteristically complaining. For the 2nd half, Ron was nearly useless with a bad leg; Jared was hungry but no one fed him; Borges was awesome with the washing machine stick move, but left the offense at home. So people are wondering, who was that guy with the Brett jersey on? If it was the Brett we know and love, we should start drug testing because he was playing like he was on performance enhancing drugs, so the long convoluted rant ends with, how could Eric be added to the white team? Why does Johnny yell, “ice it” every time he’s caught back, out of the play? What’s with the hacking and slashing of the sticks, like your impersonating a lumberjack? What’s with the throwing of the sticks, and making it play time instead of hockey time? And why, oh why, can’t we start at 8:15? Finally, my last thought, Dark team showed some real talent tonight. Singing telent that is, as they serenaded Brett to the performance that called for encore after encore!!!

      Quick Update this week

      1 comment:
Certainly some great games yesterday. Tempers were at an all time high last night as well. As you can see we were able to get a picture of Jared's attempted punch of Nick yesterday. Another highlight of last night's games was that Reggie actually got a goal. Congratulations Reggie! From Anonymous:
the highlight of the night was watching Borges run around impersonating Griffin , two handing Jared's stick out of his hand, and then having to sit out like 3 shifts because he exhausted himself.
i have to say i liked your comment Anonymous, so I added it to the post. I'd like to give you credit...but you didn't leave a name. Stats were also updated, We added a new stat at the End of the Career stats page entitled "Rivals". There are also two new polls.

      D-Fence is over rated Borges!!!

      4 comments:
Borges team was beaten in all 3 games on Sunday Night in Hockey Town. The O-Fensive team was lead by John, J-Dog, Brendon and Ron. Onsite minions reported that Brendon played team hockey all around which will be evidenced on the upcoming stat sheet. But I digress. Borges thought he was going by the book, D-Fence wins championships, so his top two picks were Bobcat and Griff. Johnny countered with Jared and Ron. The O-Fensive power was too much for Borges team as Johnny, Jared and Ron each blasted in game winners. J-dog was his usual fire ball of energy which resulted in goals and assists in all three games. Johnny lamented that his shot wasn't where he wanted it, but it didn't matter because he still lead the team in goals and assists. Even Ronnie got into the action, notching his first assist of his promising career. He won a couple battles in the corner by holding his position and passing the ball to the open player behind the net. Way to go Ronnie! Johnny's team also had a rookie goal keeper. Tony Accardi made his debut and was the winning goalie in all 3 games. While he did let a couple soft goals in, he came up big when it counted. Borges came down on a breakaway and was stopped at a critical point in game 2. Tony had no answers for Bobcat, on two breakaways, Tony was beaten with Bob's quick shot. Borges might have to re-think next weeks picks. You see, D-Fence wins championships in Football; but on Sunday Night in Hockey Town the games go to 5 and Borges team fell short... way short, losing 5-1, 5-4 and 5-1.

Hello there, This is your professor, a.k.a. “Triple P” making an unannounced post. There is this matter of what is being called a spectacular play that is raising the ire of some of you. You see, it seems that there are some people who are taking this to a level, that some feel, is causing undue stress and anxiety. To help lighten it up a little, I’d like you to think about my level of anxiety. You see I rarely show myself in public because people laugh every time they see me. I get extremely nervous every time I come out to cover games. I have learned over the years to laugh at myself and so here goes! Be nice and show me the love!!! BY THE WAY, I'M AN AWESOME HOCKEY PLAYER. I WOULD SEND YOU ALL FLYING IF YOU INVITED ME TO COME AND PLAY!!!

      Hockey This Sunday?

      No comments:
Hey guys, Should we schedule a game this Sunday? Sunday marks Game 3 between the B's and Canadians. I know Brett said he might try to go to the game. I don't mind either way, just let me know what you guys would like to do. BTW, the stats will be posted tomorrow.

      Change to the Site

I made some changes today with the website. I took out all of the closed polls and I added a new tab on the sidebar(entitled "old polls") that has the past results on polls with a small summary on how you guys did on voting on them.

Late controversial trade proves to be difference maker

      10 comments:
After suffering a lop sided defeat in game 1, team captains JB and Ron made a trade. They swapped 2 defensive players, the new comer Eric for the seasoned Nick Burton. The trade didn’t provide enough offense as Ron’s team was beaten again, taking on the chin for a game 2 loss. JB’s stopper on d, Ariel, was blocking shots all nite with No Protective Gear! She gained the respect of all in attendance, however, some players thought she was nuts. Ariel’s mental and physical toughness wowed the fans and players alike. One anonymous fan commented that this will likely lead to a successful and lucrative coaching career. Inside sources have confirmed that Ariel lobbied for a trade to give her some much needed relief on Defense. There was speculation that Ariel was being slowed down by leg and foot injuries, however, she never missed a shift and continued to play through the pain. The controversial trade was for Brett, Ron’s best defensive player; for JB’s front line centerman, Johnny Riley. Before Game 3 started, an anonymous player was heard saying more than once, “What… Brett for Johnny”, “this is not going to help us”! Nevertheless the trade occurred and game 3 began. Brett provided his usual fast and aggressive play for his new team; however, it was Johnny’s offensive skills that proved to be the difference maker. The game was won when Johnny fed Ron with a beautiful pass that was blasted in for the game winner. The final score was 5-4. After suffering defeat in that final game, an anonymous player, from the losing team was heard saying, “trade my team away and what do you expect will happen”. It was an interesting comment because before the game started, there were no such comments heard from the team. A final point worth noting, Ron’s best offensive weapon, Billy suffered a major hamstring pull in both legs. Billy still managed to show his grit and determination by scoring, using his signature shot, a lightening rocket off the cross bar and in the net. Yes that controversial trade was expected to be another blowout, for a 3 game sweep! However, it didn’t happen on this night because like its been said many times, games are not played on paper, there won on the field.

      What made us so dominate?

      4 comments:
What were the factors that lead the Dark team to finish with such dominance? Was it that Brett decided to turn the goalie crease into an impenetrable fortress? How about Ariel's intimidating Defense? Could it have been little Ronnie's grittiness in the corners? Perhaps it had something to do Billy's sweet passes and fast feet. Actually it's very possible that it had alot to do with Jared's refusal to bury every sure fire goal opportunity that came his way. Whatever it was 5-0 was dominance baby!

      Hockey this Sunday

      No comments:
Hey guys, In the end we did end up playing last week, and despite the weather and the time we had a good turnout. This week will still be cold, but we're playing earlier - at 8:00. Let me know who is able to make it this week. Thanks, John

      In the End...Hockey is Cancelled

      No comments:
Hi everyone, The combination of some people getting sick, plus the late time is leading me to cancel for this week. We'll play next Sunday @ 8:00. I'll send another email later in the week to confirm (we should have that time slot available to us regularly).

      Hockey this week.

      No comments:
Hey guys, As of right now we're still planning on playing this Sunday @ 9:00. We have a pretty good amount of people right now, but I still need to hear from a few more. I know Mike D is out, and Lee is probably out, and I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Luke is out as well. I'm going to talk to a couple of guys tonight, and make a final call. If I hear from enough people by tomorrow we'll still be playing as scheduled. If not then I'll post an email by tomorrow evening stating that we're not going to play. So if you don't receive an email, assumewe're on. If you have any question you can always call me too(603-898-6689). Next week and from here on through the spring we'll be playing at 8:00.

      Sorry for Another Post

      1 comment:
Since the last email I've gotten a couple of inquiries about still playing this week @ 9:00...I had just figured it wouldn't work for everyone, but if you do have interest in playing at 9 then email me and let me know. If I hear from enough people by tomorrow afternoon then I'll call and reserve it.

      Or Not

      No comments:
Hey guys, I just got off the phone to reserve the rink, and unfortunately the rinkis booked this week already. The only time slot available would be from 9-11. I am going to guess that is too late for most people, so it looks like we won't be able to play this week after all. Since we have a bethel speaker this weekend, Saturday isn't really an option either. Also, going forward they have their flag football leagues starting up,so our time will have to adjust from 8-10 (instead of 7-9) on Sunday evenings after this week. Hopefully that still works for everyone since it's the same time slot that we had 3 years ago. Anyway sorry for the bad news, hopefully 8-10 will work for everyonegoing forward.
